- "This is a wonderful old village pub with excellent food, great service and a larger than life Landlord. We stayed one night here, were made very welcome and enjoyed the great choices of dishes for our evening meal before a roaring log fire. The Whitby Scampi and chips followed by traditional 'Spotted Dick and custard was served very quickly and was delicious. The small bar was busy with locals and folk staying at the pub and it was a very friendly atmosphere. Our room was fairly small but clean,warm, with a kettle and hairdryer, TV and was en-suite. The bed was quite comfortable but the mattress could do with replacing as it was slightly dished at the centre. Breakfast was served in the dining room and was quickly served. Nothing was too much trouble and was served by the Landlord who was a mine of information. I would heartily recommend this pub."

Our host was happy to share his local knowledge with us which was very helpful.The hotel food was excellent. The bed was very comfortable which was ideal as I was using it after some long walks all weekend. Breakfast was catered to your choices and was an ideal start to long days out walking. On my return in the evening I was able to eat in with a delicious and varied menu where the hosts went out of their way to provide this, even though they had a busy bank holiday weekend of regular diners. I would recommend this establishment to anyone wishing to stay in the Thirsk area as it is only a few miles out of the town in a quiet village. I would definitely use it again."
