- "The property may be a bit overpriced for the condition, if you’re wanting 5 star - keep looking BUT, the staff was amazing, the rooftop bar was amazing, the marina view was amazing and the location was amazing! The public beach entry is right across the street, plenty of bars/tiki huts/restaurants all right there in the immediate area. We visited the tiki hut across the street at the Thunderbird, the beach, R Bar, Walgreens, a souvenir shop, and made two runs up to Clearwater (30 minute drive) for more shopping and restaurants. The staff recommended the St Pete Pier to the south which was really fantastic, a sunset cruise near Clearwater, which we did, and it was wonderful! I can not say enough about location and staffing!"

- "Love this place always a great place to stay" - "Quick couple days to start spring break. Front desk staff (Hi Michelle) were great! Having water and coffee ready all day was perfect and kids enjoyed grabbing ice cream from the lobby store. Loved the live entertainment and the frozen drinks from the tiki bar. They are continually working to improve the property and its location and price was perfect for what we wanted. Hope to make our way back another time. Only thing to note was the small - dare I say tiny- bathroom. If you are over 5 10” - showering has to be next to impossible. No exhaust fan either. "

I vividly remember all the hotels, motels, surf shops, shell shops, even a Howard Johnson's along Gulf Blvd. As a teenager, I worked as a dishwasher at the Thunderbird Hotel and also for the beach operator providing surf boards, cabanas and other stuff. It's always been a surprise to me that the Thunderbird and Bilmar have remained along with several of the other smaller "Mom&Pop" abodes like the Satellite Motel. I suspect that the Bungalows Motel may have also been there but I don't remember. However, knowing that I'd be in the area for several days, I decided to give a "smaller" place a try. I could have gone to the T-Bird or Bilmar or Residence Inn but thought that the Bungalows might be more interesting. I wasn't disappointed. I wished a bit of the retro feel from the 60s/70s when the smaller places really thrived. I also didn't want to end-up in hotel with a room above a dining room or kitchen, or a club with live bands, or near the throbbing chillers. Something quieter and just as or more convenient. "
