It’s almost impossible to have a relaxing vacation with small children, but this serene location and all it’s amenities actually made this possible. The Space
The home has three large bedrooms, all have flat screen TVs, comfortable bedding, and fresh linens. One bedroom has a king-sized bed with a weaved headboard, one bedroom has a queen bed, and the last bedroom has a full bed, a twin daybed, and a twin trundle. The bathrooms have plenty of towels and paper products for your stay, as well.

The entire house has a tasteful decoration in keeping with a waterfront Virginia home. There are large windows and seating with great views of the river, and the family room has a large flat screen TV with an attached sunroom which also has a great vista over the water.

Outside is a 200-foot private dock that has a couple of benches, crab traps that you can use to catch blue crab for dinner, and plenty of great places to fish. There is a beach on the property’s shoreline, also a great place to enjoy the water or fish—previous renters report the croakers are biting. In the backyard is a picnic table with benches, and tables with chairs, and plenty of trees for shade and privacy.

The kitchen has the appliances and things you need to cook up delicious meals for your crew, plenty of counterspace to accommodate those larger or more complex meals, and a great place to set up dishes for buffet-style dinners.

The home also has games, movies, a chess board and plenty of televisions and sitting areas, which means your group of up to 8 guests can spread out and do the activities or relax without being on top of each other! There are also kayaks which you can use on the river.

The Perfect Day
After your favorite blend of coffee or tea is brewed, grab a cup and take a morning stroll out onto your private dock, and sit on one of the benches and watch as the Virginia river wildlife comes to life and greets the new day.

After a breakfast or brunch, set up the crab traps and grab the fishing poles for a fresh seafood feast later in the day! Or you can set up some vegetable and cheese platters and set outside while you lay out a towel on the grass in the sun (or shade) and read a good book or magazine, all the while enjoying a cool refreshing beverage.

If you are hungry for some knowledge, great dining, and a day out in the town, you can head to Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown, all of which lie across the river. There you can learn about our incredible American history up close, have a great lunch or dinner, and shop for the next great piece for your family home, which also makes a great memento of your stay!

Check the crab trap! Many guests report catching huge blue crab that are great steamed with lemon and drawn butter, with a dash of Old Bay Seasoning. Or you can cook up a feast in the kitchen and serve outside in the warm Virginia evening, filled with lively conversation as your family shares their favorite moments of the day.

Then, after the kids are settled down with a movie or are in bed for a night’s sleep, the adults can grab a glass of their favorite vintage or brew and walk out onto the dock to enjoy a lovely sunset in the arms of your loved one. A perfect end to a perfect day!

The Neighborhood
Our home is on the bank of the York River, in a secluded location that is peaceful and surrounded by nature. There are great views up and down the river of several Virginia towns that dot the far shore.

Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown are all within about a 35-minute drive and have a rich American history, perfect for those looking for a vacation that is educational and inspires, great for getting the kids excited about learning! Busch Gardens is also within a half-hour drive, and you can see their fireworks from the house!

Olivia’s In The Village is a 15-minute drive away and is a very highly rated seafood restaurant in the town of Gloucester, a perfect place to get a taste of the sea while letting someone else do the cooking!

Gloucester also has all of the places you need to make your stay a success, there are grocery and liquor stores to keep your refrigerator and pantry stocked, gas stations, and more. There is shopping as well, and art galleries to browse the local cultural talent. There is also a golf course for those looking to hit the links during their stay.

- "The house was very clean and had so much space! There were a total of 9 people staying here, 4 adults, 3 teenagers, and two small children and everyone was very happy with our stay. The backyard, dock, lake, beach, and patio were immaculate and well kept. I will definitely look into this home if I take another trip up there again." - "The house and especially the outdoor areas were wonderful with plenty of room for our family. This lovely home comfortably sleeps 10 people with three bedrooms and one and half baths. Upon entering the house, you are greeted with a spacious living room, which includes a full sized sleeper sofa. The dining room will seat up to 8 guests with additional seating in the eat-in kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with full sized appliances along with many small appliances including a toaster, coffee maker, waffle maker and more. Just off the kitchen, the utility room houses a washer and dryer for your convenience. A half bath is located off the kitchen.
Additionally, the first floor provides a bedroom with queen size bed.
Moving to the upstairs, you will find one bedroom with a queen bed and a large bedroom with two queen beds. The full bath has been recently remodeled and tastefully decorated. Initial paper products are provided for the bathrooms and kitchen.
Each bedroom has an HDTV with Direct TV and two bedrooms have Blu-Ray/DVD players. All bedrooms are equipped with ceiling fans and all linens are provided. WiFi is available to keep you connected if you so choose.
A peaceful relaxing patio area provides a grill with sitting and dining spaces. The house is located on a spacious corner lot with a nice yard for the children.
You will most certainly enjoy the charm and personality of the home and can indeed spend your vacation in the local area. Holly House is located only a short walk from Main Street where you will find a vibrant community of shops, restaurants, and Historic Sites with annual events such as the Daffodil Festival, Wine Festivals, Brew Jam Festivals and weekly Summer Market with Live Music. When you venture beyond the area, you can devote your time to visiting many historic and entertainment sites, such as Busch Gardens, Water Country, Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown Beach, and Beaver Dam Park just to name a few.

It offers a variety of books for reading and quiet contemplation.

There are just three steps up into the home from the driveway. The master bedroom is on the first floor and the en suite bathroom has a large shower with a low step. The remaining three bedrooms are on the second floor, and they share the upstairs bathroom.

Although there was inclimate weather for half of our trip the game room was awesome, filled with laughs and smiles. From playing pool and darts to a mini pacman game we had a blast. The movie room reclining chairs are also massage chairs definitely a bonus. The way the halls connected was really cool. The Sauna was sweet and relaxing. The house was definitely well stocked with all necessities needed. Owner is quick to respond with any questions or issues. Very peaceful if your looking to get away and escape reality. - "Bluebell Cottage is adorable! It was perfect for our family of 8. Staying at Bluebell Cottage felt more like just going to a friend’s house and hanging out for a week. The house is very well stocked and lots of things you can use like kayaks, grill, floats, crab trap and more. My only knock against the property is the dock and the broken boat lift. We have a boat and brought it to the property, we just tied up on the dock, but there were some major storms when we were there and it made managing the boat a very stressful situation. That said, I would rate this a 5star all day and would absolutely stay there again as well as recommend Bluebell Cottage to others."

- "We have spent two months in Gloucester/Mathews area while our boat was serviced nearby, and we have experienced a few different places. Some have bee beautiful isolated rural waterfront spots, but this was something else: a space that is convenient to shops and restaurants, in the middle of a small village. There’s good produce and fish right across the street if you like to cook, or you can walk to any of the good restaurants in town. Ryan was incredibly helpful when we needed to extend our stay due to delays on our project. He brought extra supplies for us. As we left we met the new occupant of the ground floor business, so soon there will be a little coffee shop on the ground floor, making this the most convenient place to hang your hat in Gloucester Courthouse."

About this space
Enjoy a unique and beautiful large home, on a private multi acreage property off a country dirt road. With two outdoor dining areas and a lounge area under the stars! We are located in a historical area, home of Pocahontas, and neighboring Yorktown and Williamsburg. Our small town also hosts a spring weekend daffodil festival and a new state park, Machicomoco. Enjoy small town life with plenty of restaurants and history to explore! *Please note that we live down a bumpy mile long dirt road.
Other things to note
Part of the unlit mile long road off the paved road can be dusty or muddy or with pot holes or be pleasantly grated. It can be annoying for some but we think our place is worth it. After half a mile you take a right off the dirt road and it’s gravel and well maintained but still unlit.

Our place has some creaky floors in the downstairs hall and occasional creaking of the house in general.

On rare occasions you may hear neighbors practice shooting their guns but usually only lasts 10-30 minutes.

Recently updated waterfront cottage 2 bedroom - 2 queen beds, a pull out sofa, 28 private acres on the York River in Gloucester, Va. Great remote getaway with a pool, kayaks and private pier for fishing/crabbing. Lightly traveled river. Access to Yorktown, Newport News, Williamsburg, Jamestown, Richmond, Norfolk, Urbanna. Shares the property with the main house where owner lives.

The space
The cottage is designed as a nice get away from the city with a rustic feel. It is very private, but the property is shared with the main house. Very very Light boats can be launched with 4wd. Fantastic view of the river. Crab pots are available, but bring your own bait, best crabbing is late August/September. The Pool is open seasonally(May-Oct), we do not utilize the pool while we have guests. In the “Pool” category of photos you can see its proximity to our main house and pool house. Kids under 18 must be supervised in the pool. If you are going to bring a pet please note they are not allowed to swim in the pool because of the liner. There are two kayaks available for use on the river as well, paddles are kept in the pool house as well as life jackets. This is a RUSTIC COUNTRY COTTAGE. It's equipped BUT NOT FANCY. We have updated the electrical sockets to make them semi-child proof. There is a tv with internet streaming services available. Recently added a Dishwasher & stackable washer/dryer in unit. It's at the end of a very country road, in the middle of nowhere. It "ain't the city".

Another update is I do have chickens on the property so you may hear some crowing in the am. Also if your pet is prey driven just let me know so I can keep them in the coop and there are some outdoor cats. We have a Newfoundland puppy so don’t be alarmed if you see a giant dog accompanying us on walks etc, he is very gentle & friendly as the breed is known for.
