Our home is the perfect getaway for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a peaceful vacation. The house is located in a quiet residential area, with easy access to the beach and other attractions.

The house features 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a spacious living area that is perfect for entertaining that also offers a queen bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary appliances and cooking utensils for you to whip up delicious meals during your stay.

This house has been in our family since it was built in the 1940s. The house was smaller back then but had an addition put on sometime later. We bought the house from the family a few years ago and have been renovating it a little at a time. We have put a lot of work (and heart) into keeping the charm of the house while trying to update it with some conveniences. With all of this being said, we hope you are comfortable and enjoy the house as much as we do.

Step outside and you'll find a beautiful backyard with a barbecue grill and plenty of seating for you to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. In the evenings, gather around the fire pit for some s'mores and stargazing.

You will see plenty of deer, geese, and ducks on the property at any given time. The porch is an amazing place to sit at the end of the day with a cold drink and watch the sunset. Literally there is NO OTHER vacation rental on the entire island of Chincoteague that will get you closer to the wild ponies on swim day.

But the BEST PART OF Riptide's Retreat is that you don't have to be there during Pony Penning week in July to see the ponies because they roam year round as they graze in their natural environment just across the channel on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. If you want an up-close personal experience, you can paddle over with our kayaks or jump in your boat for a super quick ride.

By the way, the reason our home is called "Riptide's Retreat" is that Riptide is one of the most recognizable ponies in the southern herd and we're confident that you will likely see him and his band of beautiful mares during your stay. His dark chestnut coat contrasted by his beautiful blond mane makes him the "Fabio" of all ponies. I'll bet you will spot him during your visit.

Pelican Sunset is a waterfront cottage on the Chincoteague channel. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, kayaking, and fishing from the dock. The house is clean, comfortable, relaxing, updated & decorated with original art from Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Eastern Shore.

The property is 4 miles from Assateague National Seashore Park and ½ block from where the Annual Assateague Pony round-up parades horses to the carnival grounds. The dock is also located in view of the NASA Wallops Island launch site.

Please note: There are video cameras on the property which monitor the driveway, the dock, and the rear street entrance of the property lot. There are no cameras within the house.

The space:
Pelican Sunset has a dock for launching your kayak/canoe, fishing, crabbing, clamming, and sun bathing which extends into the Chincoteague Channel. There is a private deck outside the master bedroom which overlooks the southern Chincoteague channel. The enclosed front porch faces the waterfront/dock and the Chincoteague channel where fishing boats regularly come and go. There are two large screen wall mounted televisions, one in the downstairs den, and the other in the master bedroom. There is also a smaller television in the guest bedroom. The house is equipped with WiFi and television service for the main TV provided through a ROKU streaming device, a Blue Ray, and an antenna. The other two televisions have Blue Ray and antenna TV. Bedrooms are located on the second level and accessed by a spiral staircase. The master bedroom holds a king size bed, the guest bedroom holds a 54" double bed and 48" double bed. The downstairs den holds a queen sleeper sofa. The full bathroom, and half bathroom are located on the downstairs level. In addition, an outdoor shower is also available which is private, located behind the house, and is accessed by a brick walkway. The Pelican Sunset kitchen is renovated with a beautiful granite countertop and stainless steel sink, and fully stocked with pots and pans for cooking. The kitchen also is equipped with a gas range and oven, microwave, blender, juicer, toaster, and drip coffee maker. - "We enjoyed our week's stay in the Miss Ida cottage for pony penning week. The modern kitchen made meal preparation easy. Living room seating was plentiful and comfortable. The queen bed was extremely comfortable and the bath and a half were clean and modern. Amidst the modern conveniences the cottage was decorated with Victorian era pieces and actual photos of Misty and Clarence Beebe. The location was conveniently located to Main Street and the Carnival grounds so walking down to watch the ponies parade up Main to the grounds was ideal. Miss Ida was a lovely place to stay and i recommend it when visiting Chincoteague Island."

- "We were excited for have a lovely 4 day stay on Chincoteague Island and found the Tranquility home overall perfect for our group of 4 adults and one dog. With being a new home (still smelled like a new build!) the house was well appointed with beach decor, a brand new kitchen with any appliance you could need, plus ample bedrooms/bathrooms for everyone. Tucked away off of Deep Hole Rd, the location was perfect - close to everything while also not being on the busy main streets. There were a few changes we’d recommend: there was no full length mirror in the home, which would have been a nice addition. There was a cute front porch and a back porch but only one (very uncomfortable) bench on the front porch that could only fit two people. Would be great to have additional porch furniture to sip morning coffeees or cocktails on. While each bathroom had a small trash bag in it on arrival, it would have been nice to have extra small trash bags. We ended up going out and buying our own. There was also a small oversight with our outside trash bin never arriving so we had to take our trash up to the trash/recycling station across the street. We also never received the WiFi password and needed to ask for those details after our arrival. These are such small inconveniences that were easily overcome and it not impact the quality of our stay. Overall we highly recommend the home! Additionally the property management company was fabulous! They were so quick to answer any and all questions w"

Colors of Sunshine and Blue Sea are so bright and cheerful - it's just a great room to spend time in. Just off the Living Area lining the front of the Cottage is a fabulous Screened Porch with relaxing Rockers and Gliders - a wonderful place to gather in the evening and share stories of the day's adventures. Watch the kids play safely in the Fenced-in Front Yard, which Fido will appreciate, as well!
