The site has two little ponds you can fish and other bucking trails. There is also a few communal area/lodges for gathering. My only comment would be that the property is located several miles off a dirt road from Highway 24/285. Hotels.com does not explain this but the property website does. The road is easy to drive but is located in an area with zero cell service so make sure to make it out before you exit the highway. "

River Haven is located on the Arkansas River 5 miles south of Buena Vista and at the headwaters of Brown’s Canyon National Monument and Fisherman's Bridge Recreation Area. River Haven is a short walk to River Runners, a locally owned rafting and adventure company known for serving the best fish tacos and margaritas on the river with a super fun beach for kids. River Runners is open during the summer.

River Haven boasts over 400 feet of river front and access to some of the country's most desirable fly-fishing. Other spring, summer, and fall activities include rafting, kayaking and paddle-boarding class 3-4 Brown's Canyon. You can put in upstream in Johnson Village to run the scenic class 1-2 Milk Run from Johnson Village to the house. Please note, River Haven does not provide rafting or fishing gear. Mount Princeton hot spring is an 10-minute drive and Cottonwood Hot Springs is a 20-minute drive, both open year round. Or you can soak in the hot tub on the deck overlooking the river. There is an aerial adventure course at Noah’s Ark rafting company, just down the road. Great for kids! River Haven is a popular destination for mountain biking, hiking, and 4-wheeling. Guests also enjoy the artsy towns of Salida and Buena Vista. Many people come to River Haven to just relax outside in a hammock and observe the magnificent bird activity. Winter activities include skiing at the local's favorite Monarch Mountain, which is a short 40-minute drive from the property. Copper Mountain is a scenic hour drive up the Arkansas Valley, through the historic town of Leadville with no I70 traffic. Vail, Beaver Creek and Crested Butte are all within a 2-hour drive, again with no I70 traffic. River Haven is ideal for that long overdue getaway for couples, friends, and families.

River Haven has two structures: the Main House and the Little House.

The Main House has two floors; the first floor has a bedroom with a king bed, a guest bedroom with a queen bed, a renovated bathroom with a walk-in shower, a spacious family room with high vaulted ceiling, restored original hardwood floors, flatscreen with DirecTV, and large windows overlooking the river. The upper level has a bedroom with a queen bed, private balcony, a small renovated bathroom with shower. The main house has heating and air conditioning.

The Little House is a detached guest house that is connected to the Main House by the deck. It has a master bedroom with a king bed overlooking the river, a newly renovated bathroom with walk-in shower, a sitting area with a sofa, a flatscreen with DirecTV and private deck area where the hot tub is situated. The Little House has heating, window fans, a mini-fridge, and coffee maker.

The outside deck has several sitting areas and a Weber gas grill. There is a chiminea down by the river.

The hot tub is on the deck and it is operational year-round. Adjust the temperature by simply pushing the temp up or temp down button. If we have to drain and fill the hot tub on the day of your arrival, it will take time to reheat and will be ready by 8 pm.

Check-in is 4 pm. Check-out is 10:30 am. For early check-in requests, please inquire with Natalie 24 hours prior to arrival. No pets. No smoking. Clean fee is $200. No admin fee. Guests will be provided with linens, 2 paper towel rolls, coffee filters, trash bags, 3 rolls TP per bathroom, shower soap, hand soap, dish-soap, shampoo and conditioner. We advise guests to bring their own firewood for the chiminea, coffee, and any other home comforts.

We work with a local concierge and can arrange special accommodations, such as food/wine/flower delivery, laundry service.
River Haven uses renewable solar energy to power the property, recycles, and is part of a Non-Profit to Business Refill Program where amenities like hand soap are refilled at the Evergreen Refill Station to cut down on single-use plastic waste.
Guests can pay with credit card at no extra charge. 50% is due at the time of booking and the remainder is due 30 days prior to check-in along with a $500 deposit hold on the credit card that is released after one week provided no damage is done to the property.

There is a $35 fee + shipping to mail items left behind.

- "The house is a mix of contemporary and rustic which made it homey. The location was very near the river and it was lovely to sit on the deck and watch people, and birds, float by. The property is very close to a busy highway, which did make for pretty consistent highway noise. However, being so close to the highway made it super easy to get around between BV and Salida and everything in between. There is so much to choose from to do in the area. The rules and checkout procedures are very doable, nothing outrageous. The host was very communicative and thorough."

- "My husband and I, our three grown sons and their wives, plus our eight grandchildren, all recently returned from a stay in The Cardinal's nest. It was absolutely perfect for our needs. There was plenty of room for family members to spread out and enjoy each other, or enjoy time alone. The owners have put a great deal of thought in including everything a family needs for a stay in the Buena Vista/Salida area. The fact that it had two refrigerators (one in the garage) made shopping for 16 so much easier. The Keurig coffeemaker was a plus, and it was well used during our stay! The working grill made cooking dinner so much easier, and although we didn't use it, there was a large crockpot. The management company was responsive to our needs. When the grill ran out of propane, he responded almost immediately to let us know what to do. The home is beautiful and very comfortable. The view is outstanding! Can't recommend enough."

We used this as a base to explore Salida, spend a day at Noah's Ark aerial park, hit the Hot Springs, & go Hiking (Brown's Falls - a nice 6 mile out-and-back hike and the trailhead is only 12 minutes away). New hot tub was a perfect way to end the day. The cabin itself is so tastefully well-appointed and comfortable we were sad to have to leave it. - "Quiet, peaceful solitude surrounded by the majestic mountains" - "The best thing is the all pine log interior. Amazing architecture and so Colorado! We were impressed by the spaciousness of the property and the home that has room for 12 in 5 bedrooms. The furnishings are older but very comfortable with plenty of seating. I especially liked that there was only one t.v. in a t.v. room so peple interacted more instead of watching t.v.. The 3 beds we used were very comfortable. The 3 bathrooms were serviceable though not updated. Masterbath was very spacious. It's a perfect family reunion gathering place! It also accomodated our dogs well with a large fenced in area in the yard. The large patio with comfortable furniture and a large table were great and a place to hang out and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The kitchen was nice and well equiped. We appreciated the guidebook provided but did not see the welcome package as noted on the backdoor. There are several notes taped up as reminders of house rules which is always appreciated! There are a few upkeep items like a back door that we could not lock and the large trash barrel outside that is not bear proof. But it was a really nice place to spend a few days."

All Pinon homes are "vacation ready" with a fully appointed kitchen, towels and linens. Hand, dish and shower soaps are provided, as well as toilet paper, trash bags, salt and pepper and coffee filters. Bring your own laundry detergent, paper napkins and toiletries.

With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room and kitchen downstairs and a large loft upstairs, there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy meals and family time or curl up in a quiet spot to read or enjoy the view of the mountains.
Colorado nights can be cool (low 50s in the heat of summer). So be prepared if you go out after the sun goes down. Also, there is NO AIR CONDITIONING at the home. Fans are available if you need them. In season, the garden and greenhouse provide fresh herbs and vegetables for you to enjoy as part of your experience!
Guests have self check-in and access to the entire house, 9 acres including the garden. The decks of the home provide outdoor space with fantastic views from every point and outdoor lighting and fire pits make the outdoor space useable year round.

A bright and open floor plan seamlessly connects the kitchen to the living room (large screen TV with streaming capabilities) and dining area. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in this home (One king-size bed, one queen-size bed, and one set of twin beds). In the kitchen there is everything you need to make amazing meals and a coffee station. In addition, enjoy the patio, including a sitting area and propane fire pit with a privacy fenced yard.
Many homes in Chaffee County do not have air conditioning, we cool with the Mountain air. The guide book in the home gives direction on cooling. Our days are typically cool at 7500 feet above sea level but on hot days you’ll want to follow directions in the book! There are also ceiling fans and floor fans to keep you cool. We live close by and are as available as you want us to be! The Redfeather House is not in a neighborhood. You cannot see other homes at all from this house. It has great access to Highway 285 (you can hear this highway from the house) so you can easily get to town. You don't need 4 wheel drive to get to Redfeather... but it is very private and you'll feel like you are in the countryside with some great views all to yourself!
This home sits right off Highway 285 and while it faces the mountains and has great views, expect to hear some road noise. You'll have this property all to your self. Across the road you'll see Llamas. They are so cute! But refrain from feeding and petting through the fence please! Check out the guidebook for all kinds of things to do in Salida and Buena Vista! There are great restaurants, outdoor spaces, and activities available in both towns whether you’re interested in shopping, the river, water activities, or just enjoying the scenery.
The Colorado Trail has many access points in the county. Check the internet for trails up some of the most spectacular mountains in Colorado! If you’d rather ride than hike, check out local vendors who supply four-wheel drive jeeps and razors that can handle mountain trials. You can get to high Mountain Lakes like Pomeroy and others on four wheelers! Our idea of a FUN RUN! During the summer months there are a lot of guests in the county. Internet towers are overloaded on weekends throughout the county so your phones and computers may not work well for internet search. Download directions and details you may need before you get here to be sure you have what you need. Redfeather house backs up to HWY285 and normal road noise should be expected!
