- "We really enjoyed our stay here! The accommodations were definitely rustic, but so peaceful! We loved the woodwork in the house and the woodsy details, and it was nice they had some dvds handy if we wanted to watch something on tv! The setup of the bathroom (shower was in the bedroom area) was unique, but fine if you’re comfortable with the people you’re traveling with. We really enjoyed the hot tub on the screen porch, and it was nice that the radio was on when we arrived (I assume to deter bears). The driveway is a bit steep, so we were glad we took my SUV. I would’ve liked to spend more time outside on the property as it was a nice secluded and quiet space, but we were only there for a short and busy trip."

River Haven is situated on the northwestern portion of a 200 acre farm named Rivercrest that dates back to an original land grant from the King of England. The original deed granted hundreds of acres to the Moyer/Taylor family who were also distant relatives of our 12th President of the United States , Zachary Taylor. While the Taylors amassed most of their holdings through many local business dealings of the 1800’s, the fertile soil and incredible waterfront beauty of Rivercrest always interested the last heir Everet to farm and cultivate the rich soil and produce abundant crops. In the 1960’s, Mr. Taylor sold roughly an acre of riverfront property to a local businessman and soon after River Haven was born. The previous owners of River Haven upgraded and maintained the waterfront retreat and decided to share its peace, quiet, and solitude with the rest of those looking for a retreat away from the stresses of modern day life. And, to this day, these qualities make River Haven such a unique and incredible property and it invites you to feel like a part of the infamous Shenandoah River like no other can offer. The property is secluded but still very close to stores, breweries, and other local attractions. I would definitely stay here again." - "We came out for a little RNR, the cabin was amazing! We felt very secluded and kind of in our little world. There's plenty to do if you don't even want to leave the cabin! Our dog enjoyed creek days and relaxing on the screened in porch. It was just the two of us so we stayed in the addition because its absolutely beautiful (the king bed should be in there lol) my 6ft spouse squeezed into the queen bc we just couldn't pass up staying on that side! There are so many breweries close we hit about 8-9 of them. As a beer lover I figured that was the best way to spend his birthday weekend !! The drive in thru the woods and checking out the creek along the way was so peaceful! We enjoyed not having service and getting away from all the noise. Some mention-able things magpies diner for brunch amazing, billy jacks shack sticky nuggs to die for, hanks grille best meal we had ! I'd say Elkton Brewery and Three Notch'd Brewing were our fav breweries! Again the house in itself was just amazing that's how we based our whole trip. We could have just stayed there the whole time and been happy !! We hope to be back in the future! Again thanks for having us"

- "The access to the Appalachian Trail was great. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable. We brought food and supplies with us since we knew we wanted to spend most of our time at the cabin and hiking. We did not want to spend time going 10-15 mins to the store each day or to find places that were pet friendly. This was a good approach for us. We loved the stay and the disconnect. We have Verizon and did not have any cell service at the cabin but the wireless internet was spot on and we could use google voice, no problem. Highly recommend this cabin if you love nature, hiking and a comfy place to stay."

- "Everyone in my group was a big fan of the cabin. There is a terrific porch with a beautiful mountain view, a cozy sitting area with a wood stove, a functional kitchen, and perfectly comfy bedrooms. Jess was a very welcoming host who told us all we needed to know about the property. There is another cabin just a few yards away from this one, but we didn't find that it killed the secluded mountaintop vibe in any way. Don't be afraid of the long, windy, gravel road up. It's well maintained and, at least in fair weather, any car should make it up easily."

For dining, you can cook in our kitchen, out on our grill, or check out the local eateries as close as 6 miles away. We benefit from being in a secluded location that is a quick drive away from conveniences like restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Our kitchen is stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, dinnerware, and basic oil and spices. Our grill is a propane grill.

Outdoors, we have a lounger, hot tub, gas fire pit, outdoor dining table, and dining chairs. There is a hummingbird feeder back there that stays busy with activity; it is one of my favorite things about hanging out on the deck.

We do encourage 4WD or AWD during the winter. There is signage indicating which way you should go on the loop to reach us; go straight following signs for the Hensley Hollow Lodge. Once you get up the driveway, do not turn right toward the lodge, but instead drive straight until your reach your designated parking area.

We are in the woods. We share those woods with critters of all kinds. Chiefly, stink bugs are rampant in the entire Shenandoah Valley right now. If you are not from the area, they are brown and flat in appearance. A professional service treats our home monthly, but we cannot prevent bugs from entering the cabin during your stay. It is a product of being in nature. We cannot spray the entirety of the forest, and we wouldn't want to - our local pollinators are important! Thank you for your understanding.

Two minute walk to restaurants, brewery, coffee shop and parks. 15 minutes to World famous Skyline Drive, and Massanutten 4 season resort. Beautiful, luxurious soaking tub with hand held shower wand. Apartment has a quirky layout due to being a former law office and dentist office that makes it a unique stay. Has super nintendo game console for 2 and two adult beanbag chairs. Smart tv so you can veg our when you're done hiking. Railroad noise occurs sometimes and i have included ear plugs for sensitive sleepers. Property has basic kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and coffee machine.
