You are nestled in the heart of the PA Wilds, surrounded by State Parks and Forests. With miles of hiking, and biking trails to explore. Along the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning River you will be able to enjoy, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing in some of the best trophy trout waters in the state.
Depending on what time of year you are staying at the house; there are nesting birds (we have a returning mourning dove on the deck). We have seen pileated wood peckers fledge from the old tree by the river along the path to the best place to launch your kayak/canoe. That “old tree” looks dead, but is full of life and home to many of our woodland neighbors. It is not unusual to see a Bald Eagle, Osprey or other bird perched on top waiting to fish the river. Deer and the occassional Elk like to pass thru the expansive back yard as well.
The kitchen is well equipped; you should find what you may need to prepare meals.
You can enjoy a propane fireplace in the living room, or build you own fire in the fire pit on the patio out back by the pond.
Not only are you in the heart of the PA Wilds but you are also located in the Dark Skies viewing area. Lean back and enjoy the view in from the yard or visit near-by stargazing sites in the area.
We encourage guests to explore the area as there are so many things to keep everyone interested. History buffs will recognize the Bucktail Trail from the Civil War Era. The area is rich in American and Pennsylvania History. The Cameron County Historical Society is close by located in a depression-era schoolhouse and full of fascinating collections.
Mountain bike at dawn, hike or bike a nearby trail in the afternoon or float the river in a Kayak and cast a rod to try your luck at fishing, then pull up a chair for star gazing at night.
- "Completely satisfied" - "Out of all the different short term rentals I have stayed in this one was top of the list. The owners of the property have put forth a lot of effort to insure you have a good stay. They have extra toiletries in the bathrooms as well as a very informative guide book for the property and surrounding area. The home itself is very well kept and the property feels very peaceful and private. Definitely will be returning again in the future!"

- "We were attending a family member's wedding, so this home was a perfect place (both location and accommodations) for our family of 9 to gather. There was lots of room to have meals together, hang out and visit, sit and read, and private space if you wanted to be alone. House was very clean, and very comfortable. There were a couple minor things that needed attention, but the host was very responsive to these." - "Our daughter got married and The wedding party stayed at this beautiful home. Sitting at the end of a quiet country lane, only yards from the water's edge, Camp Eagle's Nest is a peaceful haven with spectacular views of the mountains as well as the Driftwood branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin can accommodate a family looking for an escape from their everyday routine, or is cozy enough for a couple seeking a romantic retreat. Outdoors enthusiasts will enjoy the close proximity of trout streams and state forest lands.
Nestled in the Pennsylvania Elk Range, Camp Eagle's Nest is a perfect location for elk watchers, anglers, hunters, bird watchers, and nature enthusiasts. Whether you are canoeing the Sinnemahoning, looking for elk sheds, watching for the frequently sighted bald eagle, golfing at the Emporium Country Club, hiking one of the many nearby trails or just breathing in the mountain air, Camp Eagle's Nest truly embodies what a "getaway" should be.
Renovated extensively, the owners wanted to make the interior of Camp Eagle's Nest is an immersion in nature as well. Using trees harvested in Pennsylvania, each room has a unique ambiance. To bring the outdoors inside, the owners carefully chose decor with rustic detail such as the stone work on the fireplace with a live edge mantel, decorative game mounts, and live edge trim throughout the cabin.
Though the feel of the cabin is rustic, guests will still have all of the modern amenities they enjoy at home such as a fully-stocked, modern kitchen, a washer and dryer, WiFi and cable television.
We would love for you to join as for your next vacation, and experience a true "getaway!"

Welcome! Camp Critter is situated along the banks of Hicks Run and provides perfect accommodation for anyone who wants to experience the PA Wilds. Whether you are a hunter, fisherman or just want a peaceful getaway, this is the place for you.
Several improvements were completed in February of 2025 including: New Living Room Furniture, a newly repainted kitchen and a newly refinished kitchen table. We also provided several new items in the kitchen as well as some new mats and area rugs to freshen things up. More improvements to come as the year progresses.
The Cabin features a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living area and room to sleep 8. There are two large decks, front and back for relaxing, listening to waters of Hicks run or watching the Elk and Deer that frequently visit the yard. A gas grill is available with propane provided. The yard is roughly 2 acres and provides plenty of space for the kids to run around.
Camp Critter is a 20 minute drive from the Benezette Visitors Center and walking distance from the Hicks Run Viewing Area. The cabin sits on Hicks Run, a stocked trout stream accessible from the back yard. If hunting or hiking is your intent, the cabin is just minutes away from State Gamelands and the Elk State Forest.
Please Note: The owners DO NOT provide Linens or bath towels at Camp Critter. This is due to having no laundry services available.
- "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, only wished we could have stayed longer! Very well-kept property in great location, and had everything we needed. Owner communication was great and had all the info needed - would definitely stay at this property again!" - "Very nice cabin! Had all the amenities and is in a beautiful setting. It was a very peaceful stay!" - "We stayed with another family- 4 adults and 4 kids. Rooms and beds suited us well. We had rain, but still enjoyed playing in the creek and hanging out on the covered porch playing games. We saw some Elk at the nearby viewing area at dawn and dusk every day! We did have something big take the trash cans off the deck and scatter them overnight one night. We brought our own wood for the campfire, but there was some there if needed. We had an overall fun, relaxing time in nature."

The Whitetail at Misty Pines is perfect for couples with it's open beamed ceiling queen bedroom. It will also accommodate two more guests on the queen sleeper sofa in the cozy living room if need be. Remodeled with rustic oak flooring and a whitetail deer theme, this cabin is easy to settle into. The full kitchen includes a refrigerator/freezer, glass top stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and crock pot. Pots, pans, cookware, utensils and dishware are all provided. WIFI access, DISH satellite TV, DVD and VHS players and CD/radio are there for your use. Outside for your enjoyment are a deck, fire ring, picnic table and gas grill.
PLEASE NOTE: This rental is half of a duplex with a permanent resident in the other side. The rental has it's own private entrance, deck, fire ring and picnic table. We have compensated for the possible disadvantage of this set up by making our rates lower than others in our area. We have had many, many satisfied guests over the past 14 years but if this set up won't meet your needs please look elsewhere.
Bed and kitchen linens are also included. Bath linens are NOT provided.
Misty Pines cabin rental has been sharing our beautiful surroundings with guests since 2008. Visitors never seem to grow tired of the changing mountain scene before them. Whether it's dancing plumes of morning mist, colorful fall foliage, serene sunsets, or foraging wildlife, the view always creates a sense of peace.
Located in Sterling Run, Cameron County, we are in the heart of the PA Wilds and magnificent elk country. If you are looking for a place to connect with nature and outdoor adventure while still enjoying the comforts of home, Misty Pines is for you! Our local state forests, gamelands, trout waters, lakes and state parks offer plenty of room to roam in Pennsylvania's natural beauty.
Our busiest season is in the fall during the elk rut (mating season). The haunting bugling of the bulls and the rattle of clashing antlers are an exhilarating experience. During this busy season, throngs of visitors flood PA's "elk capital", the nearby town of Benezette, creating crowds ranging from pleasant hustle and bustle to literal gridlock. Our location, 40 minutes away, offers guests a peaceful respite after a day of sightseeing with other tourists. Not to mention that there is a very real possibility of seeing elk anywhere along the scenic ride from Misty Pines to Benezette. Highway or dirt road, it's up to you!
We are Mark and Evelyn Keiter and we live in the home up the road, the only other house visible from the cabin. We look forward to meeting new guests, with some regular visitors becoming friends. But, we know people come here to get away and would never disturb a guests' privacy unnecessarily. Most find it reassuring to know that we are nearby to help with questions about the area, or that one item that was left at home or even assistance with car trouble. We enjoy being able to provide a comfy stay for people as they share in the wonderful place that we call home. We hope to see you soon!
- "Very clean, beautiful landscape, quiet cabin. Loved the views! There were several die and fawns in yard one morning and 4 buck another morning. Hummingbirds always! Looking forward to another visit!" - "This place was very quiet and quaint. Charming and relaxing with plenty of kitchenware for cooking inside, on the outdoor grill or fire pit. I can’t wait to visit again!" - "Misty Pines provided a comfortable and relaxing base from which to explore the Sinnemahoning area. The cabin was scrupulously clean, well equipped, beautifully situated, and convenient to everything we wanted to do. We hope to return in the future."

We had a full house with 16 people from ages 14 - 80. House was fully equipped and at a great location for Elk viewing. We will definitely return to this beautiful house again in the future." - "Very nice property, clean and well maintained." - "This is our second time staying in this house and have enjoyed both stays! We love the hot tub and well-equipped kitchen. Plenty of beds and towels/blankets. The upstairs loft with fooseball is great for the kids but would love if the owners would put a second tv with streaming in this area."

- "We had an AMAZING stay, and wished we could have stayed longer! The house was very clean, the back patio and hot tub were awesome and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook. We ended the trip with an awesome bull elk walking into the back yard this morning while we enjoyed our coffee! Thanks so much for an amazing place to get away for a few days!" - "Wonderful property that met all our expectations! Thank you" - "This house was a perfect getaway for our family. It was even better than the photos with everything you could need for your stay. The house was incredibly clean and decorated so you feel right at home. The walking paths on either side of the property was beautiful and full of wildlife. We frequently come to Benezette and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed! They are adding a hot tub too!! You won’t be disappointed! Jeffrey was incredibly complimentary; and the local wine was a kind gesture!"
