In 2015 we embarked to renovate this pioneer home, built approximately 1890 and 7 miles from its current location, into a cozy space with modern-day amenities while retaining its authentic appeal. It took us a year and a half to build a foundation, plumb and wire it, sand and scrub, build cabinetry from barn wood, oil and paint, build furniture, and locate period pieces that were suitable for the feel of the cabin. There is a claw foot tub with a shower handle and a large, private outdoor shower with hot and cold water.

The cabin is surrounded by gardens. Stunning views of the nearby mountains are seen from within the cabin and from the front and back porches. While relaxing on the porch it is common to see tractors slowly roll down Center Street to the neighboring fields to the south. The sights and sounds of chickens, horses, cows, sheep and the multitude of bird and insect species fill your senses. The night skies are one of the darkest skies in the U.S. A multitude of hiking trails for all levels of experience are only minutes from the cabin. Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, 5 miles west of the cabin, offers opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking and hiking.

Escalante Escapes' Fox Tail is a new tiny home built with you in mind! It's our largest model at 570 square feet with 400 square feet on the main level and the open loft adding an additional 170 square feet. It's a peaceful hideaway in the beautiful southern Utah high desert where you'll make the memories of a lifetime.

The master bedroom features a queen bed, a flat screen Smart TV, a small desktop workspace that's convenient for working on a laptop or getting ready for the day, a place to hang clothes, additional storage space under the bed for luggage, and a thermostat for individual climate control.

The loft area is open to the kitchen and living room and has two XL (extra long) twin beds. This is a great space to play games, store extra gear, or just stretch out and relax. The ceiling height is just under 5 feet, so you big kids don't plan on running around up there.

The kitchen and living room feature an open floor plan with a sliding glass door that opens to the deck, where you can sit and take in the incredible views. However, there is not enough storage for six people, which is a problem when hanging towels and coats. The kitchen is well stocked with almost everything you will need. There is a Kuerig for coffee, and k-cups are included. Salt and pepper are provided, but anything else will have to be brought in. There is a grill available for use, but one evening it was so windy the flames kept going out. There is also a nice firepit for cool evenings, if it isn't too windy. Also included is a washer and dryer, and even laundry detergent. The TV works fine if you have an account to log into for Netflix, or another streaming service. The only downside is that it's pretty pricey. And the included maintenance fee seems high, considering we had to take the sheets off the beds, put all the dirty towels in the shower, take out the trash, and run the dishwasher before we left. I would absolutely stay here again if it wasn't for that."

Tiny, but full of amenities! Barrel Cactus Loft Escape is our original tiny house model. It sits at the top of the hill and looks out across the property, surrounding mountains and beautiful canyons. This is our largest home at 570 square feet, with 400 square feet on the main level. The 12' ceiling and open loft add an additional 170 square feet and a feeling of openness.

The master bedroom features a queen bed, a flat screen Smart TV, a small desktop workspace that's convenient for working on a laptop or getting ready for the day, a place to hang clothes, additional storage space under the bed for luggage, and a thermostat for individual climate control.

The loft area is open to the kitchen and living room and has two XL (extra long) twin beds. This is a great space to play games, store extra gear, or just stretch out and relax. The ceiling height is just under 5 feet, so you big kids don't plan on running around up there.

The kitchen and living room feature an open floor plan with a sliding glass door that opens to the deck, where you can sit and take in the incredible views. The Space:
Escalante Escapes' Holly Hock tiny home cabin is our smallest model at 370 square feet. However, it features our largest master bedroom and largest bath, and was designed to be an ideal couples' getaway. Or, it's plenty spacious for up to four people.

That large master bedroom features a king bed, large flat screen TV, place to hang clothes, storage shelves as well as storage space under the bed for luggage, a long attached table that can be used as a workspace or place to get ready for the day, and a thermostat for individual climate control.

The bathroom includes a large glass shower with rain shower head, sink, toilet, hair dryer, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap.

The kitchen and living room feature an open floor plan with a sliding glass door that opens to the deck, where you can sit and take in the incredible views. The living room has a queen-sized sofa sleeper, two lounging chairs, a hand-crafted coffee table with extra bedding storage, and large Smart TV. The kitchen is well stocked with kitchen essentials, beautiful stainless steel appliances, a convection microwave oven for cooking and baking, a stovetop, a large refrigerator, a Keurig coffee machine, granite countertops, farmhouse sink, dishwasher and a table/prep island with seating for four.

Deck and exterior features include a propane BBQ grill, four large Adirondack lounge chairs, private fire pit, astounding views and breathtaking star gazing.

Each unit also has a small washer/dryer.

This farm house has been fully remodeled as is divided up so you can have your own private bedrooms and bathrooms in your part of the house. There is a private entrance to this property, and you alone, will be the only ones entering through this door. This configuration of the combo King and Queen bedrooms are located on the top level of the house and so it will be required that you go up a flight of stairs to access the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The house does have the option to rent other rooms individually with a King and private bath with your own entrance; AND a queen room and private bath with your own entrance. ALSO, there is an option for you with this property to rent the kitchen and living room for an additional cost. IF you did rent the kitchen and living room, you would be the only one to have access to these rooms. The Cottage is named after Dora Black, the great-grandmother of Elaine and Emilee Lott who own and operate the business. The Blacks were cattle and sheep ranchers and after the Depression Dora ran this property as a "boarding house" for the CCCs that were in the area working on government projects. Dora's Country Cottage property has the unique opportunity of being the residing place of Sunny and Rusty who are rescue steers found by Emilee. They live next door!
