This 3750 sq. ft, 4 bedroom, 4 full bathroom (with tubs and showers) home with one queen sleeper sofa sleeps 23. The Master Bedroom includes one queen bed (as well as a full size crib for babies or small children), Upstairs Bedroom #1 includes 2 queen beds, Upstairs Bedroom #2 includes one queen bed, and the landing upstairs includes 2 twin daybeds with twin trundles. The bedroom downstairs includes 3 queen beds as well as a queen daybed with a twin trundle. Freshly and beautifully decorated in a lake home theme with restful blues, grays and creams, there are quality linens on the luxury beds that will provide you with a wonderful night of sleep. You won't find another luxury rental with such a peaceful ambiance.

There is a first-class gourmet kitchen including a Viking range, refrigerator, freezer and all high end stainless steel appliances. Granite throughout the large kitchen, curly maple cabinetry and endless room to whip up gourmet confections. The kitchen comes stocked with many different cooking appliances, stand mixer, etc. We just added an extra large log dining room table to accommodate everyone in the kitchen at one time! All rooms throughout the cottage have a fantastic view of Claytor Lake, there is also a vast stone patio with multiple levels and views, including a fire pit area (wood provided). Bathrooms include luxury towel warmers, granite countertops and a Jacuzzi tub in the Master Bathroom. A gathering room downstairs includes a pool table, air hockey table, Foosball table, dartboard, bar area (including SubZero refrigerator, freezer drawers, professional capacity icemaker, deluxe wine refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave), kitchen table, and fireplace with plenty of room for large groups. There is also a large laundry room with 2 sets of washers and dryers. Outside, there is a large stainless steel Viking outdoor gas grill with rotisserie attachment, perfect for barbecues and big gatherings (propane provided). We also have plenty of inner tubes for floating, horseshoes, outdoor park grill (please bring charcoal if interested), paddle boards and 6 (10 ft.) kayaks for the guests, tons of fun things to do for the kids and family!

The Blue Heron Getaway is located on the shores of Claytor Lake in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia. The lake is popular for many water sports including boating, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing. The natural beauty of the area offers nearby opportunities for bird watching, hiking and biking on the New River Trail. The apartment is just steps from the waters edge. Enjoy water sports and relax in the evenings with a camp fire. Dine on the patio or deck. Sun on one of our three decks or relax in the porch swing by the water.

We are located 30 minutes from Radford University, 45 minutes from Virginia Tech, 30 minutes from Claytor Lake State Park and 10 minutes from Boy Scout Camp Powhatan.

A car is necessary to enjoy the area attractions. For quick travel use I 81. For winter travel a 4 wheel drive may be necessary to access the property in case of increment weather.

On one half of the river front you'll find a trail through the woods that leads to a deep swimming hole - on the other side you'll find a large field with shallow waters perfect for sitting a camp chair in on hot days and letting the water flow around you (also, there is a fire pit with firewood for incredible sunsets over the river). You can even bring your kayak, put in on one end and get out on the other! Hike down to the river/trail access or drive down - whatever you prefer! This access is only shared with three other homes. The neighborhood, with a private road, features about a dozen homes on the upper portion of Claytor Lake. You're only about 2 miles upriver from the Lowman's Ferry "Lighthouse" Bridge. The house sits directly on Claytor Lake with a dock for your own private access to the water. About 40 minutes to Virginia Tech and Radford University, 25 Minutes from Draper Valley Golf Club, and about 4 miles to the Boy Scout's Camp Blue Ridge Scout Reservation. There are also many wineries and breweries throughout the area including Iron Heart which is only 8 miles from the house. The area is great for a summer lake vacation, a fall get-away to enjoy the beautiful fall colors, or a peaceful winter retreat.

All areas of the house, decks, and dock are open for access to guests. The dock available for use by renters and their guests for sun-bathing and swimming, there is space for renters to dock their own boat.

The house also has a Charcoal grill available for guests to use, please bring your own charcoal as we cannot be sure previous guest left any.

The water off of the dock is 5-7 feet deep and is great for swimming! There is a sand bar about 40ft off of the dock that keeps boats from the main channel from coming near the dock.
