Redwing Retreat is located just outside of Athens, Ohio (home to Ohio University). It offers all of the comforts of home, plus the relaxing and replenishing effects of nature. The County Commissioners have established a .03% "Bed Tax" for all rental properties in the county. The amount for your stay will be included in correspondence sent to you immediately after booking and again in the check-in instructions message sent approximately 2 days before your arrival.

We recommend 4 WD or AWD. The driveway is steep with a limestone surface. You can make it without 4 WD, you'll just have to get a run at it when you come out. If there is snow or ice conditions, 4 WD or AWD will be required.

7 miles to Ohio University, cozy and secluded cabin on private road. Renovated in 2019 our 2 bedroom cabin has 4 porches with great country views. The bedrooms are each furnished with a king size bed. Each bedroom has access to a personal porch. To access the bedrooms guests must walk up steep-ish stairs. We offer wifi internet and a smart TV for entertainment, bluetooth speaker, preloaded super Nintendo also provided. The cabin has a washer and dryer, a pretty well equipped kitchen and a 3 piece bathroom with shower. The yard is great for star gazing and has a firepit, wood provided upon request. WE ARE NOT A BUG FREE ENVIRONMENT. We clean like crazy and spray regularly but the cabin has been in the woods for 30 plus years. I promise you will see ladybugs, stinkbugs, maybe a wasp, or anything else that is in nature..

Perfect for a family get together, workshop retreat, or just a group of friends. We work with other farms and local producers to provide fresh and healthy farm to table meals and other handmade products, including complimentary soaps. We are 15-20 minutes from Athens and Ohio University. The house features two master bedrooms with private entrances, and two spacious lofts. All four rooms have queen or double beds with fresh linens, blankets, and fluffy towels. The west bedroom has an additional pull-out futon. The east side has an extra single bed. Outdoor activities at Strouds Run State Park and Desonier State Nature Preserve are a 20-minute drive, and Hocking Hills is an hour away. And, don’t miss the nationally recognized Meigs County Farmers Market, only 30 minutes away.

The property includes side yard and back yard with a large deck overlooking the Sand Creek which is about a quarter mile from the Ohio River. The deck has benches, picnic table, and fire pit. The outside fire pit and out building with a deck overlooking the river was a great spot for hanging out at night. The only issue we had was the upstairs toilet was not working at its best and the owner said it was most likely getting replaced. If you are wanting a secluded area for a week or weekend stay, please consider our Waterfront Cabin. Unwind on the beautiful wrap-around deck that overlooks the Ohio River. The cabin also features a covered concrete patio which leads down to a dock great for sunbathing or fishing. We offer satellite TV, grill, fully stocked kitchen & bath and washer/dryer. Our cabin is 20 minutes away from Parkersburg, WV, and 30 mins to Ohio University. Blennerhassett Island is an attraction we recommended checking into during your stay.

More space info
The top floor is the living area. All bedrooms have complete bedding. The bath has hand, and wash towels available for each guest. The kitchen supplies dishes, silverware, pots/pans, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, fridge, and stove/oven. On the wrap-around deck is a patio set and grill ready for serving dinner or watching the sun go down. The bottom floor is a covered 32 x 50 concrete patio. It has a swing, ping pong table and two patio sets. From there it leads down to a large deck over the edge of the water that steps down to a dock. It's a perfect spot for fishing or watching the boats go by.

Guest Access
You have the whole cabin, adjoining decks, patios and mowed lawn during your visit. The asphalt drive-way is motorcycle friendly.

Other things to note
You are allowed to park your boat at our dock, but we do not have a ramp. Belpre State Boat Ramp is 10 minutes away from cabin.

The space
The apartment is recently renovated in the upstairs of our home. You may hear the comings and goings of friends and family downstairs (and the occasional visiting grandchild), but it's generally very quiet! We're very friendly if you see us and would like to say hello, but you have your own entrance, bathroom and kitchenette and as much privacy as you'd like!

Guest access
Guests enter around the side of the house and up a flight of stairs. The door has a lockbox with a key inside so you may come and go as your schedule allows! Down an interior hallway, you'll find a locked door that leads to the stairs down to our home. It is locked from both sides during your stay to ensure your privacy as well as ours!

A ramp has been added at the front door. It is four feet long with an eight inch rise. This was done to accommodate wheelchair access and to alleviate the high step from the porch to the living room.

There are three cameras one the property. There is a Blink video doorbell on the front door; one on driveway side of house and one on opposite end of porch. Both are in plain sight. There are no cameras inside the house or in private areas. Cameras are not monitored when guests are present.

House is wired for portable generator which is on-site and can be operational in a matter of minutes.

Fishing, two pedal boats, two kayaks and rowboat are all available. Limited tackle recently added, but bring you own if you like. Live bait available nearby. Life jackets provided.

Other things to note
Pets must be approved prior to booking. If approved, the following rules must be followed: no pets on any furniture; if dogs go in lake they are not to go inside house until dried off; You must clean up your dog's waste and dispose of it properly.

No firearms permitted except licensed concealed carry, and you need to let us know that you have weapons. No discharge of firearms on property except in emergency situations. No target practice unless pre-approved by Roger.

The Copper Top Inn is a beautiful country lodge located 9 miles from the campus of Ohio University (Athens, Ohio). The newly built lodge is attached to our refurbished barn. These are situated on a 150 acre farm with stunning countryside as far as the eye can see. The lodge has a lot of room for guests with varying wants and desires including free WiFi.

Enjoy our 2 rooms with queen size beds, and our bunk room complete with 2 sets of bunk beds. The lodge also includes a full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and electric oven.
