The Yurt at Solar Solitude sits behind the barn, and the 8.4 acres Solar Solitude occupies is available for exploring. The adjacent George Washington National Forest is ideal for hiking, and the Lost River State Park is just minutes away. Sit in the living room and enjoy the quiet beauty of nature while feeling the warmth from the wood stove or gaze up at the stars through the dome, or out on the expansive deck. WIFI works well for those who prefer to stay connected and/or telework! Enjoy walking the new walking paths and the waterfall and pond! The Solar Cottage on the property is occasionally occupied. , make sure you do not leave children unattended in the yard during the summer. Temperatures can get pretty high. Also, it’s a clamping experience so the air conditioner won’t really do much in the heat of summer so I recommend you plan day trips during the heat of the summer day.
- "Enjoyed our stay! Overall a fantastic property. Really fun and unique place and as advertised, however firepit area could use a trim. Bed was comfortable, and pullout was comfy as well. Able to work remotely and had no trouble, We enjoyed grilling on the deck and the solostove for smores in evenings!" - "My husband and I totally loved our stay in the Yurt. Russell was an amazing host and got back to me within minutes if I had any questions. It had all the amenities of home but the feeling of being close to nature. The yurt sits on a lot of land and our dogs loved exploring. The only thing I will say is the stairs up to the bed are quite tricky and my husband's older knees struggled a bit. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants the experience of "glamping"."

- "The property is unreal. If you love the outdoors and want luxuries during your trip. This is the place. The small attention to details in just the small things. Supplies, to linens, it's all there. The house is spotless. Private lot, trailhead right in the back yard that connects to main hub. Good local food all over the place. Yes for some you will have to travel 45 min to. But, Lost Rvr St park is the back yard. Hour away from Bryce Resort, MTB, Ski. Massanutten is about hour and 45 away. Peaceful private lot with so much to do. Will be back, probably for a bit longer hopefully. The horseback riding is to tempting not too. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful getaway."

Escape to the mountains and enjoy a stay in this authentic converted early 20th-century hay barn. You'll be surrounded by the Appalachian mountains and beautiful West Virginia countryside. Our converted barn includes all the comforts of home while still showcasing original rough-sawn timbers and nostalgic glimpses of the past. In addition to seeing plenty of wildlife, you'll also encounter farm animals such as chickens, ducks, and a friendly goat.
As a child, my wife passed this little hay barn regularly on her way to her home. Now, our family has moved back to her childhood community and want to invite you to experience the charm of West Virginia life.
Our newly restored barn has 1 enclosed bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor, a large loft with 2 full-size beds, a sofa bed couch on the lower floor, and a large reading nook built on top of the barn's original feeding trough. This cozy nook on the lower floor doubles as sleeping space. There are 2 full baths with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. The main floor bathroom offers a walk-in shower and the lower floor bathroom invites you into a relaxing soak in its antique claw-foot tub.
The Hay Loft is just as perfect for a romantic getaway as it is for a family vacation. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are provided. The end of the kitchen counter can be raised for additional counter space or use our fold-away stools to have extra table space.
The Hay Loft's high-speed fiber wifi is great for remote work, and allows you to stay connected during your visit. The 3 TV's are connected to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
You will have everything you need to have a peaceful retreat in the Hay Loft, but if you want to leave, there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities nearby. Even though we're miles away from city life, there are several lovely places to eat within 10 miles. We're located a few miles from Lost River State Park, with its miles of trails and majestic scenic overlooks, as well as a seasonal pool, horse riding, disc golf, tennis, and plenty of play and picnic areas. We are also within a 20-minute drive from Trout Pond, a beautiful mountain lake with a swim-friendly beach.
Guests will have full access to the Hay Loft and its back yard. There is a shared play set for children, as well as a pergola with a double swing that's perfect for relaxing. You can have a backyard fire in the fire pit. Wood and roasting sticks are provided.
There are farm animals including cats, a dog, a goat, chickens, and ducks on the property that you're welcome to pet or interact with during your stay.
We're just off a lightly traveled paved back road that is a good walking or biking space.
Our house is beside the Hay Loft, so you will likely see us next door and are welcome to interact if you would like. However, with the keyless entry and privacy fence, you can have as much solitude as you prefer. If you have any needs during your stay, we may be nearby to ask in person, and we'll always be available by cell phone or email.
PLEASE NOTE: The main floor of the Hay Loft is ONLY accessible by stairs.
We're located in the mountains, so cell service is unlikely at the Hay Loft. There are spots with AT&T service within walking distance, but Verizon or T-Mobile have a 5-minute drive to service. We have a guest wireless network that you can connect and call from.
We use a full-house filtration system for the Hay Loft, so you're welcome to drink the tap water.
We're a restored barn located in the country, and while we have made every effort to control insect life, you may see the occasional insect inside the barn.
- "The Hayloft is adorable. Raun & Dorcas were great hosts. Our kids loved it and said it was the best one they've ever stayed in. They are already making plans to stay again." - "This has to be the most charming, most well-equipped, most picturesque little getaway that I have ever stayed in. And I have stayed in a lot over the years. To begin, imagine staying in the fresh country air, surrounded by incredible mountain vistas only a few hours from the DC area. Then mix in two hosts that have really gone the extra mile to make your stay feel like a resort. They have thought of everything. Delicious coffee, tea and pastries awaited us in our well-stocked kitchen. The bathroom shower and downstairs bath were loaded with spa-like treatments. Outside was the most delightful jacuzzi, nestled in a garden space, with an elegant curtain to draw and offer a little privacy. The sound of nature and farm animals give a soft soundtrack to a relaxing soak. I noticed such delightful little touches throughout the house: hand painted mountains, raw wood details, fresh flowers, fall décor, children's toys and books, little spaces of joy and pure relaxation. I mean, truly, this is a hidden gem. Once you arrive, plan on unwinding in the most blissful of ways. And if you forgotten anything, they either already have it, or your wonderfully responsive hosts will be sure to help you get it. My favorite place to unwind was the lower level daybed area. It felt like I was drifting away on a ship. The only note you might want to know is that storage is limited due to the size of the space. So be prepared to be creative with items that you brought. Thank you Raun and Dorcas!!"

The perfect home to enjoy any season! This new, five-bedroom, three-bathroom home is ready for you to escape the everyday hustle. Located on 10 acres atop a mountain featuring breathtaking views, it is the perfect spot to savor your morning coffee while watching the sunrise or enjoy your evening glass of wine while watching the sunset. A gourmet kitchen and wood burning fireplace provide an ideal setting to enjoy time with your friends and family.
The space
The home is located in a magical and secluded area of Lost River Valley on 10 acres atop a mountain.
The upstairs living room has a comfortable couch and a reclining chair. The couch is perfect to snuggle up on in front of the wood burning fireplace (owner provided wood). The flat screen television is Roku-enabled so you can log in to all your favorite streaming services (Netflix, AmazonPrime, HBOMax, etc.)
The kitchen features a farmhouse sink, an induction cooktop, a wine fridge, and a double oven. With these great appliances, you'll be able to take some of the essentials we've provided and the groceries you bring to make an unforgettable meal.
The outdoor deck has panoramic views of the valley where you'll be able to watch breathtaking sunrises and be reminded why you're visiting. A comfortable seating area awaits, where you can relax with a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or a good book. We have a propane Weber gas grill when you want to take the cooking from the kitchen to the deck.
The downstairs living space features a large sectional couch with a 65" flat screen TV with sound bar along with a game room that features a foosball table and a card table where you can play cards or board games, or gather around to put together one of the supplied puzzles. Sliding glass doors give you direct access to the outdoors where you can set up the supplied cornhole lawn game or horseshoes.
Downstairs, behind the glass and metal barn door you'll find the office, a quiet space where you can get some work done....if you must.
The primary bedroom has a king size bed, a walk in closet, and an ensuite bathroom with soaking tub. The bedroom has a Roku-enabled TV so you can log in to all of your streaming accounts. Two large windows feature breathtaking views of the valley. There are blackout shades if you like to sleep in, but we recommend leaving them open at least once to wake up with the sunrise.
The second bedroom has a queen size bed with unbeatable views. Pictures from a local artist adorn the walls. The third bedroom has bunk beds - a twin on top and a full on the bottom. These two bedrooms share a bathroom and a pocket door is able to close off these bedrooms from the rest of the house.
If you head downstairs, you'll find the fourth and fifth bedrooms. One features a king size bed with a reading nook and the other a queen size bed. Both bedrooms have large windows that allow you to take in the views. You may even see a deer walk by the bedroom windows in the early morning or evening hours. These two bedrooms share a large bathroom with a tub and shower.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire house and property. The community is great and we often walk up and down the gravel road that leads to the house. Wildlife is abundant and deer are often around each bend in the road. We ask that you not go on any of the neighbors’ property.
Other things to note
* We have outfitted the kitchen with all the appliances you'll need to make a great meal. We have also provided some spices, oils, coffee, and tea. Also available for your use is a drip coffee maker, an electric hot water kettle, a toaster oven, and a microwave.
* Cell phone service on the roads leading up the house is spotty at best. Once you're at the house it is better, but can still be spotty. The house has fast WiFi so you'll be able to connect to the outside world (if you even want to!) and stream all your audio and video content.

- "I booked this listing for a family vacation and celebration of my son’s high school graduation. It was tricky to find a place big enough for the whole family that was also OK for my Mom, who can’t go up and down stairs. This listing was perfect for us. We loved cooking meals together, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, playing some of the board games, and (Mom’s favorite) sitting on the gorgeous back deck and watching all the wildlife. There was lots of space for everyone to visit but also enough room for everyone to do their thing. The kids loved the downstairs game room, and I loved the nice soaking tub! I would recommend this to anyone who might be looking for the perfect getaway."

- "Property was very difficult to find, as we did not have exact geological coordinates to go by, and site was not marked with the site number at all. We arrived after 6 PM, and park ranger was about to leave for the day, but felt sorry for us after seeing us drive around in circles and finally did accompany us to show us the location. There were quite a few active large red ant mounds around the site, and so had to keep moving to prevent biting. This is acceptable, as we are in nature, but may not be for everyone. Also there was no grill to cook food on, just a fire pit. This was also reasonable, given we brought our own, however this should be clarified in the description. In addition, would be very nice to know ahead of time that there is only one bed for 2 people, and one should bring beds for additional 2 people. So glad also that the parking space was close to the tent. The site itself was beautiful, great views of the mountains and night sky. It was very quiet and lots of nature and animal sounds all around made for an enjoyable and exciting evening and sleep away from civilization. Recommend this for the adventurous family who like to enjoy all nature and WV has to offer."

If you're looking for a break from the bustle of busy city life then this place is for you! Located in the remote town of Mathias, you'll be surrounded by mountains everywhere you look and be able to just experience nature. The newly renovated suite is very old (circa 1920s) and was originally part of an old general store with low ceilings and steep stairs. Lost River park is just minutes away with tons of activities like disc golf and hiking. Trout Pond is also a great spot with a great beach!
The space
The suite was originally used for cold and dry storage for the old general store that was located in the home. The location is ideal with only a 5 min drive to one of West Virginia's best state parks, Lost River, with swimming pool, hiking, archery, disc golf and more. Because of the age of the building the ceilings are very low which just adds to the charm. Although wifi calling is available at the suite, regular cellphone service isnt.
Laundry service can be provided but you must contact host in advance for more details.
Guest access
Guests have access to the small yard with the deck next to the suite and the newly renovated hang out shed.

The Nest has two bedrooms. The Master bedroom with a queen-sized bed is beautifully tucked away in the trees, with high skylights to give you a glimpse of the treetops, or the stars, and dappled sunlight in the morning. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT TRESPASSING: West Virginia is serious about trespassing. Please do NOT venture beyond the bounds of the property (you are welcome to explore the pond, the butterfly garden, and the lookout). The very old cabin right across from the path to our pond does not belong to us; the cleared meadow beyond the lookout is also not our property. Neighboring property owners have been known to surveil their land and issue trespassing tickets to offenders. Please stay on our property — you’re welcome to roam freely there. 😊

The space
If you're looking to escape to the mountains but enjoy creature comforts and rustic modern design, the Tiny House is for you! Sister property to our larger Bunkhouse Barn rental, the Tiny House is perfect for couples and small groups. We fully restored this old hunting cabin in 2020 to make it the perfect WV glamping cabin. Features a fire pit, jacuzzi and large deck in the woods. Plus we've got ultra-fast, fiber optic internet, perfect for remote working! The house sleeps 2 guests but has a pull out for kids or an additional guest. We do however ask that you respect the $20/additional person fee if you have more than 2 people.

Other things to note
Cell service isn't great on the mountain, as you might imagine. However, there is some spotty AT&T service in the house. The Tiny House is equipped with a landline phone that you can use all you want. The internet is very fast and the Wi-Fi coverage is extended all around our properties on the mountain.
Also, the tap water is filtered and treated (and tastes pretty good!), so bringing bottled drinking water is strictly optional.
We can sometimes flex check-in and check-out times depending upon rental and housekeeper scheduling. Please reach out to us with any questions.

There is something for everyone at the Heritage River Cottage.
The space
There is one bedroom on the first floor. It's next to the half bath. The game room, living room, kitchen, and dining room are located on the first floor. You can exit outback to the screened patio from the dining room or head to the backyard to the fire pit or outdoor covered barbecue area, with a grill and table. Grilling tools are located in the kitchen.
Three bedrooms and a full bath are located upstairs. The first bedroom on the left has been set up with families with children in mind. It has a queen bed, twin bed, and futon. There is also a desk in the small room with a futon and a door if you need a quiet workplace. There are legos and cars in this room, as well as the biggest TV in the house with Roku and a DVD player. You'll find blankets with puppies on them throughout the house for your fur babies. We welcome your fur babies but ask you to please be respectful of the bedding and furniture. Thank you!
We named the cottage the Heritage River Cottage because we own the property across the street with access to Lost River and parking. We love to float in the river! Sitting out back, you can hear Howard’s lick flowing as it runs the right side of our property. You can go next door to the Mathias community center and walk the path, and you'll have beautiful views of the creek. They also have a playground, basketball, and tennis courts. If you walk the trail at the back of the yard, you can walk to our pond. It's an easy walk. The pond is so much fun for natural viewing. I've seen so many amazing animals back by the pond, and it's stocked with largemouth bass and bluegills.
Across the street from us is the Lost River Pizza and Provisions. They offer amazing wood-fired pizzas, lattes, wine and beer, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and more.
A few minutes from us is Lost River State Park. They offer horseback riding, swimming, hiking trails, and more.
We are on the main road through Lost River. You will be conveniently located in all the area has to offer!
The house is has well water and occasionally you can smell sulfer in the water. The water has been tested and is safe, but we know some folks have a sulfer allergy.
