Spend a weekend or more on a cliff high above the Brazos River in the North Texas Hill Country of Palo Pinto County. A stone stairway cuts through giant boulders down to the river and several fishing spots, plus kayak and canoe launch points. Enjoy a large barbecue grill (charcoal) and views of the sunset and river from a covered pavilion. There is a heated pool (heated March to October) and hot tub that overlooks the river, amongst ancient live oaks and a regulation horseshoe pit. For the adventurous, there's also a primitive cabin (no power, no plumbing). Just 90 minutes from North Dallas and less than an hour to Fort Worth, yet you will feel you are a thousand miles away. Welcome to the Brazos de Dios.

Inside, (if you ever come in from the views) you will find one full-size, one queen and four bunk beds, plus a sleeper sofa (sleeps one, maybe two little ones) in the family room. In the family room, you will find a pool table and fireplace. Ideally, this place is for two couples and kids. Maximum 8. It is not ideal for packing in 8 grown men to save money. Do that and you'll be way more cozy and way less comfy than you may like, plus we're on a septic system that's not made for that. . Just sayin'.

Full disclosure: cell coverage can be spotty inside the house but outside it's fine. I do not provide Wi-Fi. Wireless hotspots are recommended for internet access and generally work quite well.

Had it not been so hot when i was there, it is perfectly walkable to downtown and the shops and restaurants there. The check-in and out were very smooth, and the owners were very accomodating to my request for a little bit earlier of a check-in. They thought of everything, including snacks, a variety of the Crazy Water, bottled water, different coffee pods, and any bathroom items you may have forgotten."

There is a Bald Eagle nest you can see from the back porch the Eagles put on a spectacular show with their daily fly overs. This property is like being on a wildlife preserve we have deer, turkey, hogs, cows, oh and Bald Eagles. This is a perfect place to enjoy nature, float down the river, fish, swim, or just enjoy nature.

That was the most expensive wedding we’ve ever been to…..we drove around town the day after that wedding and ended up under contract on this house before we got back home! (Abilene TX is home!). We found a great contractor to redo this little place and the rest is history! We have a LOT of outside work to do but the inside is ready to go! We have lots of wild life, insects and possible snake spottings.

4 years ago the original bunkhouse was a pole shed, we needed a place for a hired worker to stay, so we converted that into a single tiny house with the loft as the bedroom.
We made an addition to the original 2 years ago, adding 2 bedrooms and this year I have had the fun of turning our Bunkhouse into what I always imagined for it a place to allow outside guest spend some time here and enjoy the peaceful setting we offer. We do not have a TV, but have high speed WiFi!

Two points of interest if you are looking to access the river are the community common area and the public access on Pleasant Valley Road.



Community Common Area: take a right out of the driveway on Big Bend Road and drive to the stop sign. Turn right onto Brazos Valley Road and follow all the way down to the stop sign. Turn left onto River Shoals Road and drive for about 400 yards where you will see the sign for the common area on your right. This access road will take you down to a covered area, grilling stations and the community river access.



Public River Access: take a right out of the driveway on Big Bend Road and follow to the stop sign. Take a left onto Brazos Valley Road and take the road out of the community. Turn right onto Pleasant Valley Road and drive about 2.5 miles until you run into the Brazos River. This is a great place to skip rocks, walk on trails to witness the beauty of untouched countryside, or try your hand at fishing.
