The Windy Top Cottage is an old stone building constructed in 1932 by H. L. Bitter, a wealthy Hartford businessman. This area of Granby was a favorite of the Hartford elite for a place to “summer” in the early part of the 20th Century. The cottage was the place where the domestic staff stayed when the family was staying in North Granby. With an elevation of 970, the home once had views of Hartford. Today after lots of trees grew, views are still just a minute away and the cool breezes remain!

Dawn and Ken have refreshed the interior with newly sanded "pumpkin pine" floors and warm, decorator wall tones. There is over 1000 of living space. The bath fixtures are original from the 30s and the huge stone fireplace has propane fired gas logs for cozy winter nights. The large first-floor great room also has a small coffee service, there is NO KITCHEN and we are NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.

The second-floor bedrooms are spacious and yet very cozy. The home has an English Country House feel with all furnishings provided by Dawn’s painted furniture business: A Girl With A Paintbrush. Flower boxes adorn several windows that overlook an herb and flower garden. The property is accessed by original brick walkways and lead to the private entry door.

Guests will be able to use the entire building with the exception of the garage bays for their private use. A private exterior patio is located out the back door with old patio chairs, benches, and a firepit.

Amenities include freshly laundered soft cotton bedding and towels, bathrobes, hypoallergenic or goose down pillows, cozy sofas, and chairs, comfortable carpeting, and rugs. The linen closet has an ample supply of bar soaps, shampoos, a hair dryer and a first aid box.

The spaces are accessorized with old framed artwork, mirrors, clocks and folk art. We offer a quiet, relaxing experience without TV, with old books, old magazines, and games to enjoy a special time with friends or loved ones. Excellent wireless service to keep tabs on the world if you need to.

Only 4 miles from Bradley airport and 20 minutes to Hartford or Springfield. Minutes to West Hartford and area colleges. You won't find a cleaner accommodation anywhere.

The Space:
The Guest Suite is located in the lower level of our home, down a set of stairs, with plenty of windows and access to the back patio garden, which you're welcome to enjoy. Comfy bathrobes and relaxing recliners await you. The suite includes a living room with a sofa, 2 chairs, a flat screen TV with Roku and internet, and a breakfast eating area. Off of the private living room is your private bedroom, private bath, shared kitchenette, and access to the outside back yard patio. The space is centrally heated and cooled for your comfort and on your own zone. The large bedroom includes a queen-size bed, closet, dresser, luggage racks, iron and ironing board, white noise machine, and a desk and chair. The private bath includes a large walk-in shower and vanity, with comfy towels and "green" toiletries, if you've forgotten to bring your own, as well as bathrobes, and a first aide kit. The kitchenette includes a large sink, dishwasher, filtered water, small fridge, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee machine, dishes, utensils, and linens. Also provided are complimentary organic coffee, travel cups, and misc beverages. Once a day, we'll need to travel through the kitchenette to an adjoining area to feed our pet parrots. We make every attempt to enter this shared space when you're out.

Our newly built home is located in a completed community in the northern Hartford suburbs, with wonderful views of the Berkshire hills to the north. We're at the end of a quiet cul de sac with plenty of parking.

Guest Access to the Suite:
Access to the Guest suite is through the main house, and down a set of stairs. There is also access to the outside back patio area from the guest suite living room. We'd be happy to help you with your luggage when you arrive. To keep the outside stuff outside, we leave our outside shoes at the door and ask you to do the same.

Guest Interaction:
We're happy to help with recommendations, directions, or share travel stories, or even show you around the area. You might only see us when you are entering or leaving the home from the main level. During your stay, we'll generally only enter the Guest suite to attend to our birds or to clean the space. Otherwise, we can be as scarce or as interactive as you like. It's up to you.

Our Neighborhood:
Our home is located in a cul de sac in a quiet newer neighborhood in the northern suburbs of Hartford. We're 4 miles from Bradley (Hartford/Springfield) airport, 20 minutes to downtown Hartford or Springfield, and about 20 minutes to West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square and all its restaurants. Our home is also very convenient to the Windsor area Corporate business parks. We're also convenient to the i91 and i84 highways.

Getting Around:
Although having a car to get around our location is the most convenient option, there is a local bus stop a half mile from our home where bus #52 will take you to downtown Hartford in about a half hour. From the same stop, bus #54 takes you east on Day Hill Rd to the Poquonock Ave Bus stop where there is an express bus to Hartford weekdays. Certain corporate office parks are actually quite close to our home. Taxi & Uber service also operates in our area.

I'm an IT Geek by day, with a career in software development. My partner Rafael is a nurse. He and I live in our dream home in a lovely rural area just north of Hartford in a newer community, which we'd love to share with you! My partner and I keep busy with home improvements, working in our gardens in the summer, and leaving our lovely new home every chance we get to see the world. We love to share travel experiences. My hobby is choral singing and my partner keeps rescued and adopted parrots and other birds. As far as a motto or rule to live by, I guess that would be "The Golden Rule". Access to the Guest Suite suite is through the main house. We'd be happy to help you with your luggage when you arrive. To keep the outside stuff outside, we leave our outside shoes inside in the foyer and ask you to do the same. Socks provided. Feel free to bring your own slippers.

Interaction with guests:
We're happy to help with recommendations, directions, or share travel stories, or even show you around the area. During your stay, we can be as scarce or as interactive as you like. It's up to you. We’re always available via the app or cell phone.

The area:
Our home is located in a cul de sac in a quiet newer neighborhood in the northern suburbs of Hartford. We're 4 miles from Bradley (Hartford/Springfield) airport, 20 minutes to downtown Hartford or Springfield, and about 20 minutes to West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square and all its restaurants. Our home is also very convenient to the Windsor area Corporate business parks. We're also convenient to the i91 and i84 highways.

Although having a car to get around our area is the most convenient option, there is a local bus stop a half mile from our home where bus #52 will take you to downtown Hartford in about a half hour. From the same stop, bus #54 takes you east on Day Hill Rd to the Poquonock Ave Bus stop where there is an express bus to Hartford weekdays. Certain corporate office parks are actually quite close to our home.

The master bedroom has a 25’ ceiling, has a king-size bed and full bath en suite, plus a walk-in closet. The 2nd bedroom has a full bath and closet. Linens are included. A full kitchen with all dishes, pots and cutlery is right off of the dining area. The comfortable living room has a 40’ cathedral ceiling and includes a wood-burning fireplace.

The townhome is in a wooded, natural setting offering quiet and seclusion. The gated complex is on 235 acres with 24 hr. security affords recreation for the whole family, with 19 tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a recreation center with fitness center and game tables, hiking trails, horseback riding, playgrounds, putting greens and garden plots. Walk to the pond and go swimming off the sandy beach or fishing. Skiing, sledding and skating are available in the winter. There is a day camp and many other children’s activities. It was clean as a whistle, the kitchen had every appliance and utensil one could possibly need, the water pressure was strong and it was very peaceful and quiet. The decor was lovely. Lakeridge is a wonderful community in Litchfield County, foothills of the Berkshires, with both outdoor and indoor pools and a swimming pond. It abuts Burr Pond State Park which has a beach and several hiking trails. You can read about Lakeridge on its website. Any questions we had were promptly answered and addressed by the property owner. We plan to stay here again. Do note that there is a long flight of outdoor stairs to the front door."

This 1900`s home / unit was recently renovated by the artist / owner to resemble a modern rustic charm with a bohemian touch. The bed was hand crafted using rare / extinct American Chestnut. Private second floor unit in a three unit 1900 era home entirely renovated and meticulously cleaned with non toxic cleaning supplies and bedding. Space has one queen bed, two twin beds and includes two air mattresses. Living room provides a couch and television. Full kitchen features all new appliances well as a private dinning room. Bathroom was recently modernized and provides a rich environment with all the details. Long term stays welcome or stay over night. 10 min to Litchfield.

Home was built at the end of the victorian period in 1900 and was recently renovated to expose the original features while adding a modern farm house vibe. 12` mattress in master bedroom. With organic cotton sheets. Home is cleaned chemical free. Natural fiber rugs and sustainable cork flooring reduce off -gassing creating a nontoxic air quality in the space. Water is heated with on demand hot Navien system.

This is a quaint, sun-filled farmhouse in the Farmington valley of Connecticut. Convenient to great antique shopping, Ski Sundown, farm stands, Farmington river inner-tubing and biking trails, kayak and canoe rentals, the sweet towns of Collinsville and New Hartford, and a 30 minute straight shot to Hartford itself. The house is also convenient to Torrington, Simsbury, Avon, Winsted, and a beautiful drive to Hartford-Bradley International Airport.

The space
This 1850s property has a three-bedroom house, a barn, my working wood shop and studio, and a large garden. I work in the wood shop and garden but the house is set up entirely for our guests.

The house is fully renovated on the main floor with a modern bathroom and large, open kitchen. It is great for cooks: has two ovens, a dishwasher, a five-burner natural gas stove, large island, and eat-in space with large windows and door to the back yard. We've stocked the living room with a few games and reading lamps for cozy winter evenings as well.

In the summer, I grow tomatoes, green beans, corn, potatoes and plenty of other vegetables on the property.

The property is right on the Albany Turnpike (route 44) which allows for easy access to lots of nearby fun and attractions. Being on the road, you can hear traffic, especially during rush hours. That said, we lived there for 20 years and it didn't bother us so think you'll be fine with it too. :)

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house and a sweet back yard. If you want a quick tour of the wood shop or the gardens, I'm happy to do that too!

Other things to note
Please let me know if the number of guests in your party changes, so I can best accommodate. There is also a slight up charge for each guest more than two.
Also, cleaning fee is a general turn-over fee and not insurance to leave a mess.

My husband and I are empty nesters looking to provide high quality, comfortable, hypo-allergenic, smoke-free rooms to visitors. We hope our guests will enjoy all that New Hartford has to offer. Our town provides 4 seasons of recreation - skiing, hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking! Infinity Music Hall, Tanglewood, Hartford Stage, the Berkshires all are within a short commute. We have room to store bikes, skis, kayaks, and trailered boats.

The space
We have 2 rooms and 2 suites available to rent. This is Bedroom #1. The other rooms are listed separately. Guests will share access to the well-equipped kitchen, dining room and screened-in porch. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to the center of town with its restaurants, shops, library, and the Farmington River!

Bedroom #1 is not available for long-term rentals.

PLEASE NOTE: the bathtub/shower may not be suitable for seniors. It is a claw-foot tub and there are no grab bars.

BEDROOM #2 is available for long-term rental for 1 occupant only. We have 2 suites that are suitable for 2 guests on a long-term rental basis. Look for: Suite 3 The West End Country Inn or The West End Country Inn Suite 4.

Guest access
Bedroom #1 is on the 2nd floor. The bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Guests have a separate entrance to the house. We have an apartment on the property and so will be available to answer any questions either in person or by phone.

We live on the property in a separate apartment and are easily available by phone, if not in person, to answer questions and provide information on the area.

We are located on Route 44 within walking distance of the center of town with its restaurants, shops, library, and the Farmington River! We are minutes from Ski Sundown, Peoples' State Forest, 1/2 hr. from Infinity Music Hall, and 1 hr. from Tanglewood.
Assigned parking is in the rear. Let us know if you will arrive in a large-size vehicle or if you have a rear bicycle rack to determine which space you'll have.

During your stay
Jay and I live in an apartment on the property and are easily available by phone, if not in person, for questions and information about the area. We have our own entrance to the house.

New Hartford is a lovely little country town with year-round outdoor recreational activities - skiing, fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking, swimming.
We are about a 10 minute drive from access to the Farmington River Bike Trail in Collinsville/Burlington.

There is a drive in movie theatre a mile up Rd that is open in the summer. Breakfast at general store up the rd. A few good restaurants close by for dinner and a lot more within a 30 min. Drive.

Please note that while the house gets great air circulation, we do not have AC in the house. We get about 10 days out of the entire summer that gets really hot. Being outside or by the lake (swimming!) is the best way to pass those hot days. We do have fans for all room.

The dining room seats 10 and casts over the picturesque Lake McDonough, which you can also boat or swim in at the designated beach. The 400 thread count sheets adorn earn bed, with down pillows and cozy comforters. The downstairs game room features a large screen tv, foosball table, bar, and mini fridge. There is a washer and dryer and copious closet space.

The exterior has luscious gardens, sitting bench beneath a trellis, hiking trails in the backyard, and plenty of open deck space. A grill is right outside the breakfast nook. The highlight of the property consists of a pool with a built in hot tub and overlooks the lake. Ski Sundown is a local ski slope 5 minutes away.

Guest access
You will have exclusive access to 3+ acres and the entire property sans the storage room above the garage. You can hike up the mountainside, sit in the pool, read in the garden, or just enjoy the zen-like experience.

The driveway is steep and curves to the right at the entrance. It was just paved and there are two garage spots, two spots in front of the garage, and one spot at the bottom.

There is access to lake by 3 minute drive. You can launch boats and canoes there. There is also a sandy beach section to swim in.

Ski sundown, the local skiing and snowboarding mountain is a 4 minute drive on the other side of the mountain.
