Welcome to Captain Bill's Guest House at Cagels Mill Lake (aka Cataract Lake)! This gorgeous home offers modern amenities in a countryside setting. Perfect for hikers, bikers, boaters, fishermen and anyone looking to unplug and enjoy lake life or just breath the country air. This two-story home is newly remodeled with modern decor and an updated fully-stocked kitchen. You will love the open concept and natural light along with your very own private balcony.

We're located seconds from the boat ramp and a short drive to scenic Cataract Falls and Lieber State Recreation Area. Boat parking is available and easily accessible on the property. For those of you who want a motorcycle adventure, the house is centrally located around some of the best country riding roads in the state. Garage parking is permitted for motorcycles.

Next to Captain Bill's guest house is Captain Bill's main home. Depending on the time of year, guests are welcome to our shared seasonal heated pool. The pool is in a private setting and offered to our rental guests. Depending on when you go you may have the entire pool area to yourself or shared with Captain Bill and friends.

Captain Bill and Becky are serious about making sure every detail is covered. The pool is just 20 steps or so across the drive and the private door opens up to a tropical paradise. The unit that we stayed in was loft-style above a garage, but was spacious and tastefully decorated. The steps could be an issue for someone with mobility problems, but they own several units in the area. This is a rural area, but several quaint restaurants are within driving distance. There are also many places to check out in the area parks. Cataract Falls was breathtaking. Hike or relax, or do both. I had read in another review that they provided everything you need for your stay and that was very accurate. I would definitely recommend this rental and hope to return some day!"

The Parkside suite sleeps 4 with one bedroom and a pullout couch in the main room. There is a grand size kitchenette, full bath and personal outdoor space with pavilion, fire pit and gas grill. As with all the suites in the lodge you can add on to your suite to accommodate additional guests. Each suite has adjoining doorways to each other.

Next to Captain Bill's Lake house is Captain Bill's and Becky's main home. Depending on the time of year (pool is seasonal), guests are welcome to the pool area. The pool is in a private setting, available to myself and invited guests. The pool opens the third week in May and closes end of September. Depending on the times you visit you may have the entire pool area to yourself or shared with Captain Bill, Becky and friends.

The Bridge-view suite is an end unit with views to the nearly 200 year old covered bridge at the entrance to the Cataract Falls State Recreation Area. This Suite is one of three Suites in the lodge that can be rented individually or combined. The suite sleeps up to 4 people in a luxurious setting with a kitchenette to rival the best a fancy hotel suite has to offer. In addition to a comfortable interior this suite like every suite in the lodge has its own personal outdoor accommodations with pavilion, fire pit and gas grill. Sit outside and gaze over rolling hill at the parks entrance and listen to the falls in the background.

Take a step back in time to a simpler way of life! Enjoy this log cabin that was originally built in the pioneer days. While the cabin retains the charm of the 1800's, it also has been updated with basic amenities like electricity, indoor plumbing, hot water, and everything you would expect from a modern cabin. Located on Cataract Lake, yards from a public boat launch, this is the perfect spot to get out onto the lake or just relax amongst the trees. Boat parking is provided on the property.

The space
The log cabin is situated on 3 acres of land. It can be slightly rugged in spots, so watch your step. The land between the cabin and the lakefront is heavily wooded, giving you the feeling of being in a private woods even though neighbors aren't too far away. The cabin consists of two main living spaces with a spacious entryway between. A bathroom and kitchen sit at the back of the cabin. Upstairs in the main bedroom on one side and a loft on the other side.

Guest access
You will have full access to the entire cabin, deck, and property. The spaces that are not available for guess use are the shed and detached garage.
Parking on the gravel only, please do not park in the grass.

Other things to note

The Parkview Suite is the largest suite in the lodge and located at the center of the lodge. Completely renovated cozy interior perfect for a quiet weekend getaway or couple’s retreat, business trip, college visit, festival home-base, or week-long vacation. We are 5 minutes north of the town of Brazil, 20 minutes east of Terre Haute (Indiana State University and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology), 20 minutes south of Raccoon Lake State Recreation area for hiking, swimming, boating and other activities, and an hour west of Indianapolis (Lucas Oil Stadium and Indianapolis Motor Speedway). We have ample parking available so bring your boat, jet skis, and trailer! We are also just 11 miles south of the Bridgeton Covered Bridge and close to all Covered Bridge Festival activities.

Creekside Cottage has a gated front entrance that shares a gravel driveway with Farmhouse. Cottage is at the front of the 40 acre property next to the creek that runs the length of the gravel driveway. Guests have access to cottage property, creek, and wooded trails leading to 2 ponds where you can catch catfish, bass and bluegill from the shoreline.

Some special highlights of the property are the covered outdoor patio lounge with 6 person hot tub, TV, gas firepit and sitting area; back deck with picnic table, charcoal grill and cushioned chairs; large front lawn; outdoor creekside sitting area with swing and hammock; and indoor pool table, foosball table and dart board.

We are proud to serve the Greencastle and DePauw communities and we frequently welcome wedding-party guests from nearby venues. As the closest residential home to the DePauw University main campus, our neighborhood is shared by several campus buildings and student residences. To the rear is the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house. You may occasionally hear music playing during the day or in the evening. The members of the house are careful to end all activities by a reasonable hour, so you likely won't be disturbed, but please be aware of this when classes are in session if events are taking place. Our neighbors across the street are members of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house. They are equally cautious about being respectful of the neighborhood by keeping things quiet and you shouldn't be bothered by them, but just a heads up if you see any activity in their front yard. You'll enjoy the entire house and even have a private garage, should you choose. Parking is either in the extra-wide, 2-car garage, in front of the garage on the concrete driveway, or in front of the house on the street. Free parking is plentiful throughout the historic district. ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: While the Major Dunbar House features a comfortable first-floor master bedroom suite, access to the house requires navigating a few stairs in front, or in back. Please be aware of this detail as the house is NOT wheelchair accessible. Guests with mobility concerns may find difficulty walking up the front steps. Early in the 1950’s a woman named Agnus Stucky owned the the Lodge and surrounding area including the Cataract Falls. Recognizing the magnitude and responsibility to operate and maintain such a grand property she sold the falls to the State of Indiana but kept the lodge as her home. She lived at the lodge and operated the property as a resort for guests visiting the magnificent falls. The lodge itself was was at the center of the small resort with a dozen or so small cabins around the lodge. As time marched on the cabins and lodge itself fell into disrepair and the property was divided up into lots and sold off. Since then each cabin either fell down or became uninhabitable and was removed leaving nothing of the resort except the Indiana Limestone structure now recognized as the Cataract Falls Lodge.

I purchased the property from its current owner in September of 2020 with a goal to bring back the resort. To offer a place for friends and families to gather and make memories exploring and experiencing all the wonders of this amazing State Park. Besides the original Limestone exterior, nothing during the renovation of the Lodge was left untouched. Its design is set up for people that love the outdoors and amenities of a home but want the simplicity of use a luxury hotel provides.

Located at the entrance to the Cataract State Recreation Area, guests can enjoy and experience the Park from the doorstep of the lodge. The lodge itself has luxury sleeping accommodations to include 3 queen beds, 2 Queen Murphy Beds and pull-out couches sleeping 16 with 3.5 baths. Adjoining fire doors within the lodge separates the lodge into three distinct individual suites to include a large bonus room at the center of the lodge. Each Suite can be rented individually for small group stays, romantic couples get-a-ways or combine the suites for family retreats, team building events and social gatherings.

I am pleased to say that now standing on the property is the Cataract Falls Lodge Wedding Veranda. Shown as the first photo in the listing the indoor outdoor space is perfect for group events. It’s not a barn, it’s better. Inquire about our wedding package consisting of overnight accommodations and use of the entire grounds to include tables and chairs for up to 60 people.
