The cabin is completely furnished and comfortably sleeps four with a bedroom downstairs and a loft.

Located conveniently between 2 of Pennsylvania’s most popular state parks - Ricketts Glenn and Worlds End, Black Bear Cottage is a hiker’s destination offering something for everyone.
Ricketts Glen State Park is on 13,050 acres in Columbia, Luzerne, and Sullivan counties known for its old-growth forest and 24 named waterfalls along Kitchen Creek. Worlds End State Park, located in the Loyalsock Creek valley, is a 780-acre Pennsylvania state park in Sullivan County that features exceptional hiking, swimming, and picnic areas for the family to enjoy.

Not hiking? Then have a seat on the front porch and unwind or gather around the firepit, tell some tales, and create some memories. Other area attractions include local wineries, antique shops, Knoebels Amusement Resort, and some of the best trout fishing in the state!

With many grocery and convenience stores located in the area, as well as several locations offering eat-in and take-out services, it’s not necessary to cook all meals, but if you do, the kitchen is fully stocked.

Note – The layout of this cabin is from the 1960’s and a ladder was initially installed to access the loft. When the modern bathroom was added, a stairwell was installed as a safer option to get to the loft in this cabin. Due to safety concerns, the ladder has been removed. In order to get to the loft, the stairwell in the bathroom must be used. The layout is unique but guests do not seem to mind.
We wanted to make guests aware of this layout if 4 people are staying at the cabin.

Linens are provided at an additional cost upon request.

AC is typically installed by June 1.

Firewood is not provided but is sold onsite.
Due to lantern fly infestations in other parts of PA, we prefer you do not bring firewood from outside the area.

When staying between Nov - April some snow accumulation should be anticipated in the area. A FWD, AWD, or 4WD vehicle is best for these conditions - as driveways and roadways may have some snow cover and not all cover is able to be plowed.

There is an exterior camera located on the property for security.

We encourage all of our guests to purchase travel insurance for unforeseen circumstances and cancellations. FALLS TRAIL SYSTEM UPDATE: As of 4/1/25, the Falls Trail system is now fully open for the summer season with no restrictions. Please make sure you wear proper footwear for the rugged terrain (hiking boots, not flip flops or sneakers), bring plenty of water, know and do not exceed your physical ability level, and plan your route so you end up back where you parked.

Rickett’s Hidden Treasure is our 2 bedroom cabin located about 7.5 miles from Lake Jean/ Ricketts Glenn entrance on a secluded dirt road. It offers a little over an acre of peaceful, family fun on a road with very minimal traffic.

Enjoy sitting out around the fire or playing games inside and out. Head over to Ricketts and you can be there in 10 minutes or Worlds End in about 25 minutes. 15 minutes to Dushore. Enjoy the peace and quite away from others

This is a cabin in the woods. You may experience deer, bear, turkeys, and other animals on the property. You also may see mice, spiders, or bugs as you are on a property in the woods. We recently have added a water cooler with fresh water for drinking. We have well water along with a house filtration system but some guests prefer to bring water to drink rather than the tap water. Please don’t hunt on the property. Thank you

We have bundles of fire wood available for sale. You are welcome to bring your own or use fallen limbs on the property, just please don’t cut down trees. We have some outdoor seating for the fire pit but would suggest also bringing your own along with some outdoor games if you wish!

Our cabin is a great location to be close to the Ricketts Glen waterfalls and to also relax in the woods. We have a beautiful covered porch to sit and unwind. If you would rather enjoy a nice fire. We have a rustic field stone fire pit.

We do have one small friendly cat. We will do our absolute best to keep him in our private quarters, but we cannot guarantee that he won't make an appearance during your stay.

KP Lakehouse is a spacious second floor unit that sits on the Northwest corner of Harveys lake offering beautiful morning sunrises. It offers a rear deck for viewing the koi pond and many wild birds of the area. Gardening is a passion at KP Lakehouse so there is always something in bloom. Accommodations include 2 full bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, the second with two twin beds that can be arranged to make a second queen. Each bedroom has a full bathroom including a bathtub and shower.

Lounged on the sunny front porch, fed carrots to the neighbors horses and relaxed in all the open space." - "The house is very nice, like new in fact. Even though it's fairly small, it has an open floor plan making it feel much bigger. Our only issue occurred the final night of our stay. It got fairly chilly and the heat in the main living area didn't work (neither did the dishwasher, BTW). The gas fireplace hadn't been prepped for the season either. Fortunately, the house has thermostats for the bedroom and bathroom, in addition to the one in the main living area, so we were able to stay comfortable. I texted the property manager but didn't get a response for hours. On a positive note, the house feels homey and efforts to make the house welcoming and comfortable are evident - some k-cups, breakfast bars, and half-n-half left with a note to help ourselves. Ricketts Glen State Park is really nice and only 15 minutes from the house. The falls trail is fairly challenging because of the rocks and number of stairs, but well worth the effort. Hiking 3 miles gets you access to about a dozen waterfalls. "
