- "It was quiet, charming in a rustic way, Very clean, and with lots of attention from Kris, the on-site property manager. We were right on Lake Willoughby and it was absolutely gorgeous. There's not a lot to do in the area in the fall / winter, but we wanted just to go and relax, and we did that! It was perfect for us. We stayed in cabin number one, the original log cabin, and as one might expect it had a bit of a draft - but fresh air is a good thing when it's offset by a good heating system! The Wi-Fi was weak /slow but we didn't care because the AT&T cell service was just fine, and we accessed the internet that way or used a hotspot. We enjoyed some really good food at the Gap, a local restaurant, and the foliage color was just spectacular.. If you're not concerned about having everything look "modern", then I would say this is a perfect place for a getaway! We might even try it sometime for a family vacation, as there are many small cottages in one place the lakeshore."

- "Wonderful accommodations with a well stocked kitchen! Comfortable, homey and well furnished. An absolute pleasure!" - "We didn't want to go home this house was so relaxing, it made the trip for us! Everything was beyond our expectations and it was the perfect place to come back to after a day of mountain biking. We appreciated the luxurious detail the hosts had given throughout the house; from the kitchen amenities, the crockpot that we forgot to bring, to the beautiful cookware that we enjoyed making dinner with, you can tell the hosts have gone above and beyond. This does not feel like your average VRBO. The washer and dryer are a big help after the trails as is the hose outside to wash the bikes. The game room upstairs was full stocked with board games, a packman arcade system, and books to read if you just wanted to sit out on the covered deck with the outdoor fireplace to relax. The decor reflects the beautiful scenery. Birch trees, pines, and rocks are outside every window. Check in and check out was seamless and the hosts were very responsive. Location is very close to the KT mountain bike trailheads and Burke Mountain ski resort, we were just as excited to come back from a long day and relax as we were to hike and bike. Can't wait to come back!"

With rustic charm, the new custom-built "Darling A" was crafted with material from an 1800s barn and locally harvested cedar from our property. Expansive windows throughout the cabin provide sunshine throughout the day and offer a glimpse of Burke Mountain, forest, and wildlife.
Inside, this cozy retreat has three levels connected by a spiral staircase. There are two unique sleeping spaces - the open loft has a king-size bed while the first floor bedroom has large picture windows and a queen-size bed. The loft has access to a roofdeck that overlooks sunset. There is a full spa-like bathroom on the main level with a large shower and a half bathroom downstairs. The main floor is an open floor plan with a kitchen equipped with a top of the line Z-line stove and a living room with a wood stove and vintage stereo system. Downstairs offers endless entertainment with a 1980's jukebox with original 45s, a 1960s foosball table (Real Madrid vs Barcelona), Smart TV, and a Pacman and Galaga arcade game.
The spiral staircase is open from the main floor and is necessary to access the basement and the loft. Please take this into consideration when booking your stay.

Daniel's Pond is a hidden gem and this immaculate cottage has 119 FIVE STAR REVIEWS!!!

Our fully appointed cottage sleeps 2-6 people, with 100 feet of private shoreline, only a few steps from the door. Designed for a couple, small friend group, or family with older children (over 12 years old). It has easy one-level living with a bedroom (queen) on the main floor and two separate sleeping spaces (1 queen and 2 twin beds) upstairs in the loft. The open floor plan has sweeping views of the water and mountains at every turn, exposed wood beams, cathedral ceiling, and loads of natural light. We have a professional well for drinking water. Privacy is yours with a 12 ft tall hedge and fencing to create a natural barrier, located on a dead-end road, and the adjacent cottages more than 100 feet away. Enjoy time on the water using our canoe and rowboat. The level yard is great for lounging or lull yourself to sleep while relaxing in the hammock. Enjoy meals outside on the picnic table and grilling on the Weber gas grill.

Daniels Pond is a little slice of heaven with pristine "quiet water" (no large motors or jet skis allowed) and only 20 waterfront cottages. Soak up the peace and tranquility! Daniels Pond is well known for spectacular, romantic sunsets. You are looking at our Burke Mountain getaway. This house was newly built a couple of years ago and features a bunkroom downstairs that can sleep 7, a bedroom upstairs that can sleep 4, and a loft that can sleep 3. There are 2 3/4 bathrooms, one one each floor. There is also a great room that is attached to a large deck that overlooks the large fielded backyard that is surrounded by woods. There is a full kitchen as well as a grill on the deck. There is also a TV room downstairs with a DVD player. There is also broadband wifi. Outside there is a large field/hill that leads down to a fire pit area and pump track. Past the fire pit is a river that is deep enough for wading. There are some short hiking trails on the property and a small cabin further down the river. The property is 3/4 a mile from W. Darling Hill road and is a short pedal to the Kingdom Trail trail system.

- "We stayed here with two other families of 4, the place had plenty of beds for everyone and had plenty of room to spread out. The table fit everyone for large dinners and games in the evening. It was close to the Kingdom Trails, but also pretty secluded for privacy. The back yard was awesome with the fire pit and the stream behind the house. Was perfect for jumping in after biking all day. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and would consider staying here again."

The kitchen is fully equipped and I even baked to apple-blueberry pies while I was there from local apples and blueberries! The beds are comfy. The shower is huge. There's an old fashioned claw-foot tub for a soak if you like. But the best part is the view from the wrap-around porch. Oh my GOODNESS! I wish I could take that view with me everywhere! The loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible views of the property. We now have a beautiful 5 burner gas stove-top (in a temporary table), a new oven and dishwasher. Although the cupboards aren’t finished, Dave is designing them now and will start production in 2022. It’s still a great working kitchen with lots of huge tables to work on. The great room is wide open, yet cozy, with a wood stove (and plenty of dry wood). While in Vermont, I paint in the loft and take advantage of the large tables. We recently put shades on the windows to give guests privacy if they want. We choose to let the light in, and watch the weather (something we miss in LA.) There is a large porch off of the great room, with a grill and small table. Enjoy dinner out on the porch, listening to the peepers (or watching fireflies).
We also added a new futon couch which opens into a queen bed. We have all the linens to accommodate 2 more guests, comfortably, in a beautiful setting. There is a small bathroom, with sink and toilet off the great room, near the futon.

The bedroom has a king size bed, which has views of the valley below, over the rows of poplars, stretching to the Green Mountains. David did all the woodwork, beautiful cherry floors and trim. He finished trimming in the bedroom porch last summer. It's a wonderful thing to have a screen door opening to a porch that overlooks Nature, in all directions. This is where you'll want to watch the sunset! The recently finished master bath has built in everything (David’s handiwork) including a Miele washer and dryer.

The little free standing building on the right side of the loft, had been my studio, but is now a cottage that we also rent out. The building directly across from the loft, in the courtyard, was David's woodshop and is now used as an office, and very loose gallery space (that's where I store many of my paintings). Let me know if you're ever interested in seeing more of my work (all units are full of it....) If I'm not around, I can arrange for someone to let you in.

We are located right on the Kingdom Trails mountain bike network with the trails Shire and Roly Grail running through the property. Ski Burke Mountain from the condo or a 2 minute drive. Ride your ATV right from the house directly to the VASA trail network!! Brighton allows riders on public roads from 7am to 10pm. Ride from downtown Island Pond to Derby and Wheelock. 100's of miles of trails are accessible from our location. Use this as your base camp for outdoor adventure!

The space
Fantastic romantic getaway for 2 or great adventure space for a small group. $50 charge per/person/night above 2 people stay. The apartment is ideally set up for 2 but can accommodate up to 6. The space is attached to the host’s home but is completely private with your own separate driveway for parking and private entrance. The hot tub is part of the apartment for your exclusive and private use. The backyard is a shared space with your hosts but we will give you privacy during your stay. In the summer you can sit by the pond on the porch swing and feed the brook and rainbow trout, and/or visit with the chickens. You can dine inside using the fully equipped kitchen or use the grill and outdoor picnic area and dine outside. After a long day of hiking one of the areas many mountains, skiing Burke mountain, biking on Kingdom Trails, biking on our scenic roads, snowmobiling (trail access within 1/2 mile), boating, or fishing etc etc, you can massage your muscles in hot tub. Internet & WiFi not always reliable due to rural area.

Guest access
You’ll have access to our 17+ acres (with exception of the hosts’ residence) where there are wooded trails in warmer months (or bring your snowshoes/skis to break trail). A short hike in the woods will bring you to a beaver pond (shared access with our neighbor) where you can go for a pedal on our pontoon pedal boat in warmer months. You’ll see fish and likely some wildlife during your pedal and at the same time get some exercise! The pond is shallow in spots and is full of tall plant vegetation. This will give you the feeling that you’ll see an alligator! But we promise there aren’t any alligators! Maybe Big Foot, but we’re still waiting for his appearance!

Other things to note
We are within 1-2 miles of the State Forest which has many miles of roads and trails open to the public (except for ATV’s). Our night time sky on clear nights is really astounding. If you look long enough you’ll likely see a shooting star and definitely some satellites flying across the sky. Maybe even a UFO!! During warmer months hosts have an on-site antique store in the barn. Internet & WiFi not always reliable due to rural area.

Private, peaceful, quintessential VT getaway. A great hang-out house and perfect place to get away with 22 acres and a pond to explore and enjoy! Plenty of adventure to be had within the confines of the property but also very close to spectacular Lake Willoughby, hiking, Kingdom trail system, Burke Mountain, and Hill Farmstead brewery!

The space
The house itself is bright and cozy and can accommodate a decent crowd! Large windows all across the front of the house allow for gorgeous views of the yard, no matter what season. Very private location- can't see or hear any neighbors!

Yard complete with patio and charcoal and gas grills, 2 different fire pits, large picnic table, garden, pond in back. Huge deck runs all across the front of the house and around one side. A perfect place to take in the scenery.

Wifi works well most of the time, but can be spotty during bad weather. DSL is as good as it gets this far up into the woods :)

Standby generator installed winter 2021 which will automatically switch on and power entire house in the event of an outage!

Dirt main road maintained by town but steep incline when pulling onto road from Rt 5- can be a bit slick in winter. Driveway also on incline and 1/10 mile long (also dirt). *****During any season with potential for slippery conditions, AWD or 4WD vehicle needed to get to the house safely*****

Unfortunately, the house is not handicap accessible.

We do get warm days in the summer and there are fans for each bedroom. There is no A/C.

Other things to note
The house is very open in general, and upstairs bedrooms have openings to let heat from the woodstove in, so sound can definitely travel! I like people to be aware of the open layout of the house (which I think you can also get a good idea of by viewing the photos). All bedrooms have sound machines for privacy. I find that these help to drown out noise in the rooms and elsewhere in the house. Of note, the 4th "bedroom" is in the finished basement.

As you can tell from the photos, this is a country house in the woods, not a city property with high speed WIFI and all the bells and whistles. I always feel that I have everything I need when I'm there, but this type of a rental may not be for everyone. If you have any concerns about it being a good fit for you, please ask questions! I'm happy to answer anything. My goal is to ensure that my guests are happy with their experience, and expectations are an important part of that equation.

To that point, the nature surrounding the house is arguably its best feature, but that comes with creatures. Black flies in spring, cluster flies in summer, tons of lady bugs whenever they decide to hatch....you catch my drift. If you're ok with dealing with whatever small inconveniences mother nature has in store, you will really enjoy your time here.

Rustic, authentic, off-grid, log cabin just 15 minutes from East Burke, VT and the Kingdom Trails. This custom built 3+ bedroom log cabin is located in an extremely private setting on 140 acres of property with a large swimming pond and beautiful views of this gorgeous, unspoiled corner of Vermont. The property is off a dead end road and near hundreds of acres of conserved land so it is a true get away.

If you can't travel without your hair dryer than this isn't the place for you, but if you love the great outdoors this rustic retreat is sure to please. This home is off-grid so it is rustic, but well equipped with a gas fridge, gas stove and a solar powered electrical system with a back up generator. One bathroom with a double shower and huge tub provide a perfect solution to the sore muscles that are inevitable after a long day of mountain biking on the Kingdom Trails in East Burke, VT or summiting one of the area peaks.

The Kingdom Carriage House was built in 1842 and sits on 35 private acres in the Northeast Kingdom of VT with unobstructed views of Willoughby Gap & Burke Mountain. The home is also situated a 15 min drive to both Burke mountain and the Kingdom Trails. Jay Peak is also close by.
