- "We loved the experience - a front row seat to a world class view ... Hanging Rock framed so beautifully by a literal amphitheatre of wonderful trees ...lit up beautifully in the sunlight one day, cosy and misty the next, like sitting in a McCubbin painting... all while enjoying the peace and quiet, reading and meditation during the day... enjoying food and wine by the fire at night. Very comfortable! Thank you, we would highly recommend!" - "A spacious stunning property, with room for all the adult children, grandchildren and one dog. Plenty to keep us all occupied and just a short drive to Woodend, Hanging Rock and the Mount Macedon memorial cross. Only pedestal and ceiling fans for cooling, so our first night was a little uncomfortable, but we would love to visit again in spring or autumn."

- "A rugged bush property, less than 10 minutes from Macedon township. Driving into the property's initially steep gravel drive, in a 2WD car, required some initial speed and staying in low gear, but proved no problem for our family group, in three vehicles, two of which were 2WD. The main house and two "container bedrooms" were all spotlessly clean and very well, appointed. All were well air conditioned if required; as it was on occasion as the weather was quite warm during our stay. IT wise the WiFi and internet worked exceptionally well - especially as the 4G wasn't so great in that location. The bush surrounds suited our family group which allowed for our two pet dogs to run around outside as well as our grandchildren. As a consequence, the TV was hardly put to use, as we just enjoyed the peace and quiet of the bush. The property provided a good base for the two significant family events that brought us to Victoria for the week; especially its quick and easy access to the Calder Freeway. Given a similar family occasion, we'd most definitely be looking to stay here again if available.Thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay."

Ard Choille, a private Heritage-listed garden, is one of the best of the renowned Mt Macedon hill station estates. Sprawling over 12.5 acres with a finely detailed and elegant curved fernery, sweeping lawns, lakes, the arching frames of the original plantings of stately tree varieties including Rimus, Japanese Cedars, Tulips, Birches, Beeches, Elms, Oaks, Firs, Lindens, Rowans, Dogwoods, Conifers, and numerous tree ferns. There are also masses of rhododendrons, camellias, hydrangeas. In spring, the hills of the estate come alive with thousands of daffodil bulbs. The fernery is housed in a rare 19th Century metal shade house, the only in existence in the southern hemisphere.
The gardens of Ard Choille date back to the 1890s when Scotsman William McGregor (Chairman, BHP) found a piece of the Australian bush at Mount Macedon in Victoria that reminded him of his native Scottish highlands. The estate was designed in the Scottish manner with a chain of seven lakes.
During your stay, you can still wander to the spring fed top lake (Fern Loch), take in the history and admire the tranquility. The owners are happy to offer a tour if booked in advance.
The gardens flow through lawns and gullies. Secret pathways lined with bluestone edging weave in the shade of laurels and flow down to "House Lake" that was formed in the shape of Australia and is now edged by camellias, rhododendrons, cabbage trees and laurel.
For children, there is much to marvel at. A secret fairy garden with a hut and swing is hidden next to a stone-lined brook running through a sheltering grove of laurels. Through a holly hedge, there is a potager garden with ancient walnut trees, providing a stunning sunset view to Hanging Rock.
Ard Choille is in the perfect position to explore the entire Macedon Ranges. The restaurants, cafes and convenience of Woodend are a quick (7 min) drive and it is equally easy distance to the beauty of Hanging Rock (10 mins), Mount Macedon (10 mins), Kynton and Gisborne (15 mins). The Daylesford spa area is an easy 45 minute drive.

Located at the base of Mount Macedon, Mokepilly is a one-bedroom guest suite surrounded by established gardens featuring an extensive living and dining area, a fully-equipped kitchen, a large bedroom with a queen-size four-poster bed, a study nook with a diverse collection of books, and a modern bathroom with a shower and large single-person bath.
The space
The Mokepilly guest suite is a completely private, quiet, spacious, comfortable base from which you can explore the unique and diverse Macedon Ranges region. It's a place to rest and recharge with a glass of local wine and complimentary Netflix, a place to settle down on the huge sofa with a good book from the collection provided, and a place to enjoy a home-cooked meal on the deck overlooking the pond and gardens.
The suite is perfect for one or two adults, and we are happy to welcome guests traveling with infants or toddlers - with space for a port-a-cot in the bedroom and a one-person bath (please note that while the bath had a spa function, this has been decommissioned), the suite easily accommodates little ones.
We have furnished guest suite with careful consideration for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests whom we encourage to make the most of their stay by enjoying the many amenities of the space - a fully-equipped kitchen with complimentary teas and local ground coffee, a Smart TV with Netflix, a soundbar and a DVD player, free WiFi, a large single-person bath and laundry facilities.
Please note that while there is a gas fireplace in the space it is not in service - for safety and sustainability reasons the system was decommissioned prior to us offering the space through Airbnb. You will instead be kept warm, cool and everything in between, as needed, by a reverse-cycle heater/air-conditioner in the main living space which was recently updated to a brand new model in July 2022 to maximise both guest comfort and environmental sustainability. A huge super warm and comfy pure wool blanket is also tucked away in the bedroom cupboard if you need another layer.
The garden at Mokepilly has been over thirty years in the making and features a large collection of rare and unique plants, a productive vegetable garden and a rose garden boasting over two hundred and fifty varieties including many highly fragrant and very beautiful English and French roses.
When the garden is in bloom, we'll endeavour to leave you with some fresh flowers to enjoy during your stay and to take home with you so that your time at Mokepilly lasts just that little bit longer.
We absolutely love sharing the Macedon Ranges with new and returning visitors so we hope you'll choose Mokepilly as your home-away-from-home for your stay in the region.

On arrival, you will be met at the front gate by your host for a contactless, socially-distant welcome. Your host will then provide you with direction to the on-site parking and guidance on where to locate the keys and guest manual for the suite.
While the space is connected to the main house by a long corridor, the entrances to both spaces are secured by locking doors. The main entrance to the suites is separate from that of the main house so you will have complete privacy during your stay. If you have a car, you will be able to conveniently park right next to the entrance to the space.
