Curated with old and new treasures, this pretty three bedroom cottage is set behind a white picket fence a stone's throw from the mighty Hunter River and overlooking the historic St James Anglican Church.
Stroll to Morpeth's heritage-listed main street, picnic on the river bank and dine at the lauded Boydell's Cellar Door and Restaurant (50m from the back gate). A luxe sojourn in the lower Hunter awaits.
This charming three bedroom cottage (sleeping five) is the creation of travel writer Sheriden Rhodes and husband (self taught builder, painter, tiler and jack of all trades) Tom Szecsodi.
Take a soak in the freestanding bath, gather round the wood fire in cooler weather with a glass of wine in hand or enjoy a G&T on the front verandah at sunset. We're a short five minute drive from the new Maitland Hospital in nearby Metford.
There are two (identical) guest rooms offering classic queen size iron beds, AH Beard plush mattresses and fine linen. A third bedroom offers a single nickel cast iron bed with crisp cotton sheets, a desk and office chair. The wifi is fast if you need to work from home. A cute laundry with separate toilet and washing machine is available for those on the road and longer stays.
In the stylish bathroom with herringbone tile floors enjoy Grown Alchemist amenities.
The River Haus features gorgeous old treasures including ship's rope, vintage kitchen scales, Bentwood chair, steamship trunk coffee table and weather beaten boat oars. Hunter River Retreat is situated on 110 acres and approx. 2 hrs from Sydney, 15 minutes from Maitland, with boutique wineries close by and the main Hunter Valley wineries approx. 30 minutes away. Full Day Bus Winery Tours can also be organized that pick up from The Retreat - you can taste and not worry about driving.
Goanna Lodge is a private fully self-contained cabin with a huge deck, gourmet BBQ and stunning views which makes entertaining or a family get togethers on the deck a must.
The Goanna lodge has 3 bedrooms, the main bedroom featuring a queen bed, and a glass sliding door leading to the third bedroom, will be loved by the children and features a double bed and a loft bed above, along with a tv and dvd player.

How We Price: The booking price is based on a minimum number of guests. Any guests above this number are chargeable on a per person/per night rate. The system will automatically calculate the correct rate when you enter the required number of guests. Reductions in guest numbers are non-refundable.
Arrival Details: Access to the property is made simple. You’ll receive an access code via SMS just before 3pm on your arrival day, which you’ll use for the duration of your stay. Standard check-in is at 3pm. While an earlier arrival may be possible, it cannot be confirmed until the afternoon prior to your arrival. If an earlier check-in is available, we will send you an SMS by 4pm the day before to confirm.
Linen: 1 set of full bed linens and 1 bath towel per person are supplied. Guests may wish to bring extra towels depending on the length of their stay. Pool/Lake/Beach towels are BYO
Guest Amenities: We are Eco-Friendly - to help reduce wastage, we supply a single bottle of 3in1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash in all showers. In addition, guests are advised to bring their own personal preferred bathroom products/amenities.

Fires and Firewood: Internal wood fireplaces and outdoor fire pits only operate after the NSW Easter School Holidays up to before the NSW September School Holidays in line with NSW state fire restrictions. Please note: we will normally supply enough firewood, kindling & fire-starters for between 1-2 nights of your stay. For guests wishing to have additional fires, we suggest BYO Firewood, Kindling, and Starters which can be easily purchased from the local service stations.
No Party Policy: All reservations operate under a Strict No-Party & Non-Excessive Noise Policy as prescribed in the NSW Short-Term Letting Legislation and Local Council Laws. This property is in a Residential Area. Failure to comply can put the security bond into jeopardy and may lead to police-assisted eviction and/or extra charges being levied. We hate to have to note this but the reality is that so far this year we have had to evict 3 groups for overstacking/bad/anti-social behavior.
Extra Guests / Visitors: The number of people nominated on your booking is the maximum number of people that are allowed to be on the property at any one time, including visitors. Visitors may be requested and if approved must be approved in writing with Weekenda staff. Simply put, if Mum and Dad want to come over for a BBQ then we are likely to approve. If 10 extra people want to stop by we are unlikely to approve, which could put your booking at risk. We will always try to be reasonable with reasonable people within property constraints and House Rules.
Cameras and Noise Monitoring: There are4external security cameras installed at this location presently but the owner reserves the right at any time to install additional external cameras at their discretion. Arrival Details: Access to the property is made easy for you. We will send you an access code just before 2pm on your arrival day via SMS and you will use this code for the duration of your stay.

Pools: If the property has a Swimming Pool then it will be opened for swimming for the start of the NSW September School Holidays and closed and Winterised immediately after the NSW Easter School Holidays have been completed.
Fires and Firewood: Internal wood fireplaces and outdoor fire pits only operate after the NSW Easter School Holidays up to before the NSW September School Holidays in line with NSW state fire restrictions. Please note: we will normally supply enough firewood, kindling & fire-starters for between 1-2 nights of your stay. For guests wishing to have additional fires, we suggest BYO Firewood, Kindling, and Starters which can be easily purchased from the local service stations.
No Party Policy: All reservations operate under a Strict No-Party & Non-Excessive Noise Policy as prescribed in the NSW Short-Term Letting Legislation and Local Council Laws. This property is in a Residential Area. Failure to comply can put the security bond into jeopardy and may lead to police-assisted eviction and/or extra charges being levied. We hate to have to note this but the reality is that so far this year we have had to evict 3 groups for overstacking/bad/anti-social behavior.
Extra Guests / Visitors: The number of people nominated on your booking is the maximum number of people that are allowed to be on the property at any one time, including visitors. Visitors may be requested and if approved must be approved in writing with Weekenda staff. Simply put, if Mum and Dad want to come over for a BBQ then we are likely to approve. If 10 extra people want to stop by we are unlikely to approve, which could put your booking at risk. We will always try to be reasonable with reasonable people within property constraints and House Rules.

- "Most things with the property and our stay were good. There were a few issues, however. Neither the host nor Stayz provided the Check-in information, nor were they easily contactable when we arrived to a locked gate. In addition, the house had not been thoroughly cleaned - used towels were left behind bedroom doors, there was a puddle of water on the bathroom floor and the fridge and pantry needed a good wipe down before we could use them. The facilities and space were good for our group though. Fortunately it was pool weather, not tennis/basketball as the court was damaged. Overall, lots of potential here, just a few tweaks that could make huge improvements. "

There are two houses on the property. As you drive down the driveway, the first house you see belongs to the owner.
All within easy reach of the Hunter Valley’s vineyards, cellar doors, wineries, restaurants, golf courses, and Newcastle’s stunning beaches, this property is perfectly suited for extended families, lifestyle living, tourism, and rural pursuits.
The property is a working cattle farm, and guests do not have access to the paddocks.

Unfortunately, this is not the property for you. This home is located in a quiet neighborhood, so a hens/bucks/schoolies type celebration is not appropriate. If you are unsure, please inquire before booking.
How We Price: The booking price is based on a minimum number of guests. Any guests above this number are chargeable on a per person/per night rate. The system will automatically calculate the correct rate when you enter the required number of guests. Reductions in guest numbers are non-refundable.
Arrival Details: Access to the property is made easy for you. We will send you an access code just before 2 pm on your arrival day via SMS and you will use this code for the duration of your stay.

No Party Policy: All reservations operate under a Strict No-Party & Non-Excessive Noise Policy as prescribed in the NSW Short-Term Letting Legislation and Local Council Laws. This property is in a Residential Area. Failure to comply can put the security bond into jeopardy and may lead to police-assisted eviction and/or extra charges being levied. We hate to have to note this but the reality is that so far this year we have had to evict 3 groups for overstacking/bad/anti-social behavior.
Extra Guests / Visitors: The number of people nominated on your booking is the maximum number of people that are allowed to be on the property at any one time, including visitors. Visitors may be requested and if approved must be approved in writing with Weekenda staff. Simply put, if Mum and Dad want to come over for a BBQ then we are likely to approve. If 10 extra people want to stop by we are unlikely to approve, which could put your booking at risk. We will always try to be reasonable with reasonable people within property constraints and House Rules.
Cameras and Noise Monitoring: There are # external security cameras installed at this location presently but the owner reserves the right at any time to install additional external cameras at their discretion. Cameras are positioned to view X Y Z areas for external security monitoring only. All cameras are installed in line with local regulations. A noise monitoring device is installed - fines apply to guests found to have disconnected, removed or damaged the noise device. These devices are used to monitor and maintain ours and guests responsibilities under the NSW STR Code of Conduct.

Guest Registration / ID Check: Weekenda requires every guest to complete and sign an electronic guest registration prior to arrival which will ask for a photo ID i.e. a copy of your driver's Licence or Passport. In the event we are unable to reach the primary booker, it is very important we can get a hold of other guests. These documents will be deleted after your departure. Access Codes are only released to Registered and Verified Guests.
Insurance: As always, but ever so more due to recent times, we strongly encourage any holidaymakers to obtain a very inexpensive 3rd Party Domestic Travel Insurance Policy to cover you for all manners of matters which may restrict travel. Our little house is situated in a very handy place as it’s close to all the amenities. The shopping mall is just two minutes drive and there is a great cafe and a take away shop in a walking distance. We are 3mins drive from both Maitland private and public hospitals and Tafe NSW- Maitland.

This little patch of peace has all you need for your stay to give you delight in so many ways. Located on 6 spacious acres, the room has access to a beautiful, shared living area with out-door BBQ facilities, a pool, as well as a secret garden to explore with bird aviaries nestled throughout. You can feed the sheep, play with Ashley, the very friendly Kelpie dog, or go for a stroll in the back paddock overlooking Historic Maitland.

This special place is on 6 acres and has 2 bedrooms and a shared living/ dining area with an outdoor patio. It has a shared pool area to use at your leisure. It is attached to a family home.
Guest access
Guest may use the private patio with outdoor dining, shared living kitchen area. explore the secret garden out back and enjoy the shared pool area. you can also explore the back paddock and enjoy some time with the domestic sheep, feed them bread, and give them a pat.
During your stay
There could be other guest staying at your location unless you book out the whole apartment. Attached to this apartment is our family home. There will be children out and about in the afternoons being creative and sometimes lively. They will respect your privacy. Please refrain from asking them for instructions or directions, and instead direct your enquiries to us.
Other things to note
If having Ashley the Kelpie dog roaming free makes you uncomfortable we are happy to contain her during your stay.
