Like new cabin situated on 2.3 acres at the head of Whalebone Cove in the beautiful Copper Bluff area of Quadra Island. The cabin sits on a mossy bluff above our home, overlooking Discovery Passage and the mountains beyond Campbell River. Looking westward it's hard to find a nicer sunset on Quadra Island. If the large front windows don't get you close enough, then just sit out on the deck and enjoy the show. The property has 240 feet of waterfront and a private dock. Tie up your boat, launch your kayak or just bring your fishing rod and enjoy the day. Our dock is equipped with power and fresh water. Take in the ever changing variety of marine life on the water including whales, dolphins, otters, seals and birds. Every day there is an interesting array of marine traffic including cruise ships from May to September.
You will love the surrounding moss covered bluffs and steep cliffs that make this area unique. We are close to some of the best hiking and biking trails on Quadra and a 15 minute drive to the Village Bay Lakes.
We are comfortably separated from Quadra's busier areas and still close enough to slip in for a beer at the pub or to shop for your next meal with a quick 12 minute drive to Heriot Bay.
Whalebone Cove Cabin is ideal for a most peaceful getaway. It has everything you need and then some. A fully stocked kitchen including the basic spices, coffee & tea, a very comfortable queen sized bed, a walk in shower, handmade natural soap, and a washer and dryer. We also provide a barbeque on the deck in case you have the urge to grill. And just to make sure you stay connected with the world, we have not forgotten a large screen TV and included the internet.
We are a 4 season cabin. You can enjoy the great outdoors during the warmer months or cozy up by the fireplace during the cooler months. Quadra Island is a great place to be at any time of the year.

The Wilcox Lodge is a serene retreat nestled on 5 wooded acres on the shore of Gorge Harbour, Cortes Island, considered by many to be the best of the Evergreen Islands. These islands are located on the famed 'inside passage' used by ships going to and from Alaska and are sheltered from winter Pacific storms by Vancouver Island, one of the largest and most interesting islands in the Northern Hemisphere. Cortes Island is served by regular scheduled ferry service from Campbell River. Campbell River on the east side of Vancouver Island has scheduled airline service from Vancouver (host city to the 2010 Winter Olympics), and charter service direct to Gorge Harbour is available from Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver and Campbell River.

Cortes Island is in the 'rain shadow' of Vancouver Island and has far less precipitation than Victoria or Vancouver. Weather is usually warm and sunny with cool evenings May thru October.

The Lodge is situated just above the beach with a panoramic view of the harbour and a view thru the harbour entrance of Vancouver Island mountains in the distance. Wildlife abounds. You may see bald eagles and many varieties of birds, deer down by the beach or out the kitchen window, sea lions, seals or an otter playfully swimming by, mink, and perhaps dolphins or a whale on the ferry ride over.

With nearly 1,500 sq. ft of living space, this rustic Lodge has all modern conveniences, a full well-equipped kitchen, comfortable and spacious living/dining area that opens onto a large 750+ sq. ft. L-shaped deck overlooking the beach and harbour. Hot tub on the deck. 2 chaise lounges make for lazy sunbathing/reading afternoons on the deck and the cafe & dining tables are a perfect spot for outdoor dining. Anyone for oysters on the barbeque??? Stairs off the deck provide access to the beach over a short but bumpy path. Kayak available for guest use. The Lodge sleeps 6: 2 in the lower loft (California King sleigh bed with McCroskey firm mattress & box spring), 4 in the upper loft (double bed and trundle bed with 2 twin mattresses). The Lodge is an 'A' frame with an open floor plan, the upper loft is accessed thru the lower loft and both lofts are partially open to the main living area (so no bedroom privacy). The bathroom has a sink, toilet, shower and a clothes washer (dry your clothes outside on the clothes line, they will smell so fresh and good); there is also an outhouse. There is ample parking for several cars. There is a land line phone for local calls & limited long distance, WiFi internet, 32' Sony flat screen TV w/DVD player in the lower loft (no TV channels, cable or satellite, just for DVDs), CD player and record player w/record collection just for old times sake. We also have a collection of books, some by local authors, and some board games for the chance rainy day. Feel free to add a shell or two to our display case coffee table in the upper loft or a beach combing find to our entry way beach combers wall. You'll also find a kayak under the house which you can use during your stay... Main thing is to unwind, have fun, enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings...

Note this is a rustic beach house......not a modern city home transported to water's edge....we are continually upgrading the property but not everything is 'all perfect'...although we keep making improvements each year.

Also note that the private driveway is a bit rough and bumpy in places. You need to drive very slowly and carefully to avoid scraping the bottom of the car on the driveway or bushes along side the driveway.

The Lodge is not as remote as it sounds, one neighbor's cottage is very close by and can be seen from the deck & from the lower loft bedroom bay window, there is a small cabin in the woods up the road not visible from the main house, others are within walking distance as is the Gorge Marina with restaurant, small grocery, laundromat, gasoline, and a new beautiful outdoor swimming pool & hot tub overlooking the harbour/marina and open to the public. The Lodge is 2 1/2 miles from downtown Whaletown with government dock, post office, church and mini-library.

When you tire of hanging out around the Lodge, numerous outdoor recreational opportunities abound: fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming at the Marina pool or Hague Lake, Hollyhock retreat center courses, other beaches to explore, skate board park...

Did you know that in August 1983 a 62lb Tyee King Salmon was caught in Frenchman’s Pool and then 13 days later another 61 lb salmon was brought in. (And guys eat your heart out as they were both caught by women :)

Maybe you feel like relaxing on your Observation Deck with a refreshing beverage. Shhhh – What’s that sound? Is it an ORCA? OMG! It’s a Whole Pod! WOW! And then Look! there’s a Shimmering Cruise Ship sailing by. Perhaps you’d enjoy a game of cards or just kick back and read a book – that is if you can take your eyes off the Dynamically changing View of ‘Tugboat Alley’ long enough….

Good morning! Enjoy your morning coffee with a view. Need to pick up a few groceries or some fresh local seafoods to grill on your personal BBQ? No worries - several grocery stores are only 5 minutes away for a quick restock. There is even a liquor store just one minute away, open late, 7 days a week. The local Government Wharf has a Sea Monger for fresh seafood, right out of the Pacific Ocean – just 10 minutes away. Don’t feel like cooking? No worries, there are 3 gourmet restaurants within walking distance- Dolphin’s Resort, Painter’s Lodge or take a water taxi from Painter’s over to April Point, as well as a number of other restaurants within a 5 – 10 minute drive.

All rooms have fans and we upgraded most of the kitchen appliances. There are 2 outside security cameras that are turned off during stays. One monitors the dock/pier and one driveway when house is vacant. We do have a Tesla L2 35A charger on site. Local amenities of note within 15 min drive are the Quadra Golf course, new mini golf, pickle ball courts, whale watching ( pick up right in front of house on the dock) scuba diving, fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

Absolutely, 100% thrilled that our plans were disrupted. Quadra Island is a gem! So much nature and wildlife right from the back porch and even more with nearby hiking and boating. Mark was a great host with near instant response time. He made several excellent recommendations for food and activities, and made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was clean and very comfortable. Everything we needed was right there ( even little things like adequate cords/plugs, kitchen and cleaning supplies, extra blankets etc.).
