Like new cabin situated on 2.3 acres at the head of Whalebone Cove in the beautiful Copper Bluff area of Quadra Island. The cabin sits on a mossy bluff above our home, overlooking Discovery Passage and the mountains beyond Campbell River. Looking westward it's hard to find a nicer sunset on Quadra Island. If the large front windows don't get you close enough, then just sit out on the deck and enjoy the show. The property has 240 feet of waterfront and a private dock. Tie up your boat, launch your kayak or just bring your fishing rod and enjoy the day. Our dock is equipped with power and fresh water. Take in the ever changing variety of marine life on the water including whales, dolphins, otters, seals and birds. Every day there is an interesting array of marine traffic including cruise ships from May to September.
You will love the surrounding moss covered bluffs and steep cliffs that make this area unique. We are close to some of the best hiking and biking trails on Quadra and a 15 minute drive to the Village Bay Lakes.
We are comfortably separated from Quadra's busier areas and still close enough to slip in for a beer at the pub or to shop for your next meal with a quick 12 minute drive to Heriot Bay.
Whalebone Cove Cabin is ideal for a most peaceful getaway. It has everything you need and then some. A fully stocked kitchen including the basic spices, coffee & tea, a very comfortable queen sized bed, a walk in shower, handmade natural soap, and a washer and dryer. We also provide a barbeque on the deck in case you have the urge to grill. And just to make sure you stay connected with the world, we have not forgotten a large screen TV and included the internet.
We are a 4 season cabin. You can enjoy the great outdoors during the warmer months or cozy up by the fireplace during the cooler months. Quadra Island is a great place to be at any time of the year.

The Wilcox Lodge is a serene retreat nestled on 5 wooded acres on the shore of Gorge Harbour, Cortes Island, considered by many to be the best of the Evergreen Islands. These islands are located on the famed 'inside passage' used by ships going to and from Alaska and are sheltered from winter Pacific storms by Vancouver Island, one of the largest and most interesting islands in the Northern Hemisphere. Cortes Island is served by regular scheduled ferry service from Campbell River. Campbell River on the east side of Vancouver Island has scheduled airline service from Vancouver (host city to the 2010 Winter Olympics), and charter service direct to Gorge Harbour is available from Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver and Campbell River.

Cortes Island is in the 'rain shadow' of Vancouver Island and has far less precipitation than Victoria or Vancouver. Weather is usually warm and sunny with cool evenings May thru October.

The Lodge is situated just above the beach with a panoramic view of the harbour and a view thru the harbour entrance of Vancouver Island mountains in the distance. Wildlife abounds. You may see bald eagles and many varieties of birds, deer down by the beach or out the kitchen window, sea lions, seals or an otter playfully swimming by, mink, and perhaps dolphins or a whale on the ferry ride over.

With nearly 1,500 sq. ft of living space, this rustic Lodge has all modern conveniences, a full well-equipped kitchen, comfortable and spacious living/dining area that opens onto a large 750+ sq. ft. L-shaped deck overlooking the beach and harbour. Hot tub on the deck. 2 chaise lounges make for lazy sunbathing/reading afternoons on the deck and the cafe & dining tables are a perfect spot for outdoor dining. Anyone for oysters on the barbeque??? Stairs off the deck provide access to the beach over a short but bumpy path. Kayak available for guest use. The Lodge sleeps 6: 2 in the lower loft (California King sleigh bed with McCroskey firm mattress & box spring), 4 in the upper loft (double bed and trundle bed with 2 twin mattresses). The Lodge is an 'A' frame with an open floor plan, the upper loft is accessed thru the lower loft and both lofts are partially open to the main living area (so no bedroom privacy). The bathroom has a sink, toilet, shower and a clothes washer (dry your clothes outside on the clothes line, they will smell so fresh and good); there is also an outhouse. There is ample parking for several cars. There is a land line phone for local calls & limited long distance, WiFi internet, 32' Sony flat screen TV w/DVD player in the lower loft (no TV channels, cable or satellite, just for DVDs), CD player and record player w/record collection just for old times sake. We also have a collection of books, some by local authors, and some board games for the chance rainy day. Feel free to add a shell or two to our display case coffee table in the upper loft or a beach combing find to our entry way beach combers wall. You'll also find a kayak under the house which you can use during your stay... Main thing is to unwind, have fun, enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings...

Note this is a rustic beach house......not a modern city home transported to water's edge....we are continually upgrading the property but not everything is 'all perfect'...although we keep making improvements each year.

Also note that the private driveway is a bit rough and bumpy in places. You need to drive very slowly and carefully to avoid scraping the bottom of the car on the driveway or bushes along side the driveway.

The Lodge is not as remote as it sounds, one neighbor's cottage is very close by and can be seen from the deck & from the lower loft bedroom bay window, there is a small cabin in the woods up the road not visible from the main house, others are within walking distance as is the Gorge Marina with restaurant, small grocery, laundromat, gasoline, and a new beautiful outdoor swimming pool & hot tub overlooking the harbour/marina and open to the public. The Lodge is 2 1/2 miles from downtown Whaletown with government dock, post office, church and mini-library.

When you tire of hanging out around the Lodge, numerous outdoor recreational opportunities abound: fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming at the Marina pool or Hague Lake, Hollyhock retreat center courses, other beaches to explore, skate board park...

Did you know that in August 1983 a 62lb Tyee King Salmon was caught in Frenchman’s Pool and then 13 days later another 61 lb salmon was brought in. (And guys eat your heart out as they were both caught by women :)

The local Government Wharf has a Sea Monger for fresh seafood, right out of the Pacific Ocean – just 10 minutes away. Don’t feel like cooking? No worries, there are 3 gourmet restaurants within walking distance- Dolphin’s Resort, Painter’s Lodge or take a water taxi from Painter’s over to April Point, as well as a number of other restaurants within a 5 – 10 minute drive.

All rooms have fans and we upgraded most of the kitchen appliances. There are 2 outside security cameras that are turned off during stays. One monitors the dock/pier and one driveway when house is vacant. We do have a Tesla L2 35A charger on site. Local amenities of note within 15 min drive are the Quadra Golf course, new mini golf, pickle ball courts, whale watching ( pick up right in front of house on the dock) scuba diving, fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

The backyard offers very long bank line along the river. There are four dedicated fishing spots in the backyard. The widest River bank, slowest river current makes it the best place for fishing on Campbell River.

The space
This is the upper level suite of this beautiful vintage home, so you do have to climb some stairs to get to your space. It is fully contained with its own full bathroom and complete kitchen. The private elevated covered deck keeps you protected from the elements year round, while watching small marine traffic, majestic cruise liners as well as tugs with barges in tow, battling the Strait’s ocean currents. Cook up a delightful meal on the grill while watching the eagles sore to their nest across the road, as they screech for their next meal.

You will have full access to your private suite and shared access to free laundry located on the bottom level. Currently the landscaping is not complete and there is no fence on the roadside retaining wall, so yard use is limited.

The space
This is an older cabin, which has character consistent with its years. We have taken steps to make sure it is safe, comfortable, clean and charming!

The “master bedroom” looks out over Q cove and has a queen sized bed with an Ende memory foam mattress. There is a tall chest of drawers for your clothing.

The second bedroom has a bunk bed also with memory foam mattresses. The room was set up for kids, but the beds can be used by adults.

Relax inside and still feel like you are interacting with nature all day long!

You have access to the whole cabin! Also, use of the yard, which includes the fire pit (when outdoor burning is allowed).

If you enjoy being in the move, there are many hiking trails, beaches and freshwater lakes to explore. Also, the fishing around Quadra Island is world class for salmon and ground fish!

We kindly ask that you refrain from smoking inside the house and any other interior spaces. However, if you wish to smoke, there are designated outdoor areas where smoking is permitted. Please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly and ensure that the smoke does not disturb other guests or negatively impact the environment.

- "This is an absolute beautiful spot on the river. Our 3 night stay was wonderful especially the bear watching as well as all the other birds and fish visible from your living room windows. The first day we had a mother bear and 3 cubs come down to the other side of the river to eat some salmon that were swimming in the water. The beds were very comfortable and it was really nice having a sink and toilet off of the master bedroom. This unit is on the top floor which was fine for us however anyone with mobility issues my have a struggle getting up the 2 flights of stairs. The only negative thing I could say would be the cooking utensil inventory could be increased, it could use a couple of nonstick fry pans with lids, cheese grater, better cutlery etc. It seems like maybe over time guests have removed or damaged items and just haven't been replaced. Other than that, I would definitely stay there again. It's close to everything and is still quiet and very relaxing."

We provide all you'll need for your stay to be comfortable. Near to Elk Falls, the Campbell River, Ripple Rock hikes and 40 min from Mt. Washington.
Situated below our primary residence, this 675 sq ft space is freshly painted, and trimmed inside with local Douglas fir. The ceilings are 9 ft high thus adding to a sense of spaciousness. The main area windows on two of the walls provide plenty of natural light. There is a basic kitchenette with a fridge and freezer. Sorry no oven but a single induction burner, instapot, electric skillet, rice cooker, toaster or microwave to cook with inside the suite.
Outside under an over-height covered deck is a propane BBQ with both a dining and couch seating area that is set up for your outdoor cooking and leisure. When the blackberries on the lawn edge are ripe please help yourself. The outside views on the inside of the suite are also quite enjoyable. Being on the lower floor its nice and cool in the warmer months. Local art work and home spun textiles are featured throughout.

The kitchen is better described as curated than equipped, with carefully selected appliances, particularly the coffee maker. Many holiday rentals are kitted out with a single Costco trip, functional but very ordinary. Here, it is the exact opposite, everything was selected with care for guest’s comfort and enjoyment. The beach access is as described and we saw whales from the deck every day (humpbacks and orcas). My favorite feature is the sliding glass wall on the front which turns the deck and the living room into one. We’ll be back!"

Built around 100 years ago by some of the first settlers of Read Island, BC. Recently renovated to meet your modern luxuries, this 900 sq. ft. house sits on three acres of ocean front property, completely off the grid. A unique accommodation for up to four guests.

The accommodation has one bedroom with a luxury king sized bed, and a living space with a comfortable queen pullout couch.

We live on the property, far enough away for your privacy, but close enough for anything you may need. We look forward to having you stay!

Guest Access:

The easiest way is to open Google Maps on your cell phone, and type in "Hoskyn Channel Landing" in the search. Keep the app open the entire trip, as you will lose service along the way, but if the app stays open it wont stop the route.

From Campbell River ferry you will take a short 10 minute ferry ride to Quadra Island - Quathiaski Cove ferry terminal.
Drive North up the island to Hoskyn Channel Landing, to where you will park your vehicle, and we will be there to meet you to bring you over to Read Island. Just a short and scenic five minute boat ride to our unique location! More descriptive details are communicated after reservation is made.

Parking your vehicle in the upper parking lots is free. The boat ride is included with your stay and we require that you sign a liability form/boat passenger waiver upon arrival.

We ask that you bring food during your stay. If you need more we can order, pickup and deliver to you at an additional cost. Cash or e-transfer only.

As much as we love animals, unfortunately we are not a pet friendly accommodation.
The accommodation and property is not wheelchair accessible.
Children under 12 years of age are not allowed on boardwalk and dock without adult supervision, and must be wearing a lifejacket.
Lifejackets must be worn when using kayaks, paddle boards and canoe.

Private dirt road leads to a quiet house right on the waterfront. The entire cottage is for your personal use. Seals, eagles and various other wildlife frequent the place. The views of Sutil Channel are spectacular, with views of the Coast Mountains, Marina, Cortes and Mittlenach Islands.

The space
Eagle Tree Cottage is right on the beach on the east side of Quadra Island with magnificent views of Sutil Channel and the Coast Mountains. It is a great quiet place to relax and watch the sea life, the birds and the tide go in and out. With the constant change of the sea, one can experience very large waves crashing on the beach or flat tranquility
In the cottage itself, there is the main floor, consisting of a bedroom, with a queen size bed and an open plan living room, dining space and full kitchen, with propane stove. The one bathroom has toilet, sink and a shower. There is also a very large angled loft upstairs with a double and a single bed. There is a large deck in front, which is about 50' from high tide.
We are about 5 km from Quathiaski Cove where one can find all they need. There are restaurants scattered across the island. Our island has several marine and land based parks, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, lakes to swim in, artisans to visit and even a fledgling winery. Once people see the view and where we are located, they tend to focus on that the whole time, looking for wildlife because if the timing is right, orcas, whales, dolphins, sea lions and seals may be there for your viewing pleasure. We have been in this business for 25 years.

The full house is yours. You have a deck, front yard, parking space in back, so as not to impede the view and a full ocean to play in, at your doorstep.

Other things to note
At the present time, there is a fire ban, with campfires and outdoor fires all banned. As it is quite warm, there is not much need for those things!

The space
With 1 acre of land situated off Discovery Passage this deep water moorage home is unique in so many ways. We have taken a traditional coastal home and given it some modern twists to keep up with technology but also give in to nature and all the area has to offer. You can surf the news in the morning but enjoy your coffee on the deck while eagles and seals play right at your doorstep. Take a fishing trip being picked up and dropped right at the Wharf, up from Seattle? Get a scheduled plane trip back from the dock just down the road. Want to eat out or get a drink at a local bar?There is a restaurant literally 4 min walk down a country road at April Point Resort .
Need a gallon of milk, the store is 5 min car ride! Get away from everything but amenities are close but not too close ! Your cabin has pretty much everything you need. Just bring your fav food,drink and gear!
Drive an EV? We have a Tesla L2 charger at the house. This is a $25 per use pre paid amenity. If you have J1772 EV you will need the adaptor.

The only limitations would be the dock unless you sign the waiver of liability! See host for details. Can be sent via Docusign.

Other things to note
Everything here is wood. Suggest wearing shoes or sandals . The decks have bench type railings . Dock use requires a waiver. No wet dogs on the carpets please. All people on the docks should be wearing life preservers. There is a life ring and ladder on the dock if someone falls in. We are not responsible for any incident on the water; beach,piers, ramp or docks.
