Gwenyn is a family holiday home owned by David and Eleanor and Sam. It’s nestled in the Sabie mountains on the site of an old gold mine, in a beautiful spot on the Panorama Route in Mpumulanga and within easy distance of the Kruger National Park. It’s been renovated throughout in an unique style using locally sourced materials and upcycled original furniture.
Gwenyn is set on a quiet private estate and guests have full use of the house and large gardens.

The space
The entire house and gardens are available for guests to use.

The house was originally an old gold miner’s cottage, but it has been sympathetically extended into a 4 bedroom single storey house. When we bought it in 2020, we renovated, using locally sourced materials and keeping a mixture of modern comforts and old world charm.
As well as our comfortable lounge furniture and the huge dining table, we have many upcycled one of a kind pieces throughout the house such as the Double Bass towel holder, the Africa themed coffee table with animal footstools, the quirky light fittings including a bedside lamp made from an antique wooden ski and everyone’s favourite; our bespoke tractor bar including headlamps and steering wheel!

The outside space consists of large covered verandas front and rear and through the French doors of the living room, there is a covered wooden deck on stilts, with bench seating.
If you’re an early riser, the comfy outdoor sofa or the white picnic bench are the perfect spots to sit with a coffee and watch the sunrise. If you prefer a lazy morning ( you are on holiday after all ) maybe you’d prefer a cocktail watching the sunset over the mountains. Either way the views are incredible and the colours over the extensive garden are beautiful. The many fruit trees give an amazing fragrance and please help yourself to a guava or a lemon or whatever fruit is in season.
In the back garden we have a stone built braai and seating area. It’s also serves as a perfect spot for an evening fire and sundowners.

The area is well known for hiking, bike trails and gentle ambles but we find the most popular walk is straight from the garden to the waterfall and swimming spot. You can even take a picnic and make a day of it!

There is a long driveway with plenty of parking. The house, including the lockable garage is alarmed and we have 24 hr armed response.

Guest access
The caretaker, Aaron, will be there to greet you when you arrive, give you the keys and help you to settle in.
There are privacy gates to the front drive.

Other things to note
There’s a 1km unmade road to get to the property. This is regularly maintained but can be bumpy in places. Please take care in wet conditions.

Wifi is provided by a vodacom router which will have data on it. If you need more, then there are instructions on how to add your own data or drop us a message and we can do it for you.

We can sleep 8 people comfortably and we have 2 extra beds if you are a bigger group.

Vanaxe Estate is a quiet and peaceful place so please be aware that it’s not suitable for big party groups.
