THE EVENING STAR is in the Bright Wine and Alpine High Country. It is situated in a picturesque valley on the outskirts of Bright in the highly sought out and popular area of Wandiligong .

A 5 minute drive to the centre of Bright or an easy bike ride along the shared walk /bike track . The beautiful stylish modern home overlooks a picturesque River Reserve and its mountains , creeks and river . The open plan design of the house, the huge glass doors, windows and wrap around decks all take full advantage of the beauty, tranquility and magnificence of its enviable setting. Neutral ,natural, earthy colours and materials are used throughout the house to further compliment the beauty of natures calming colours . Guests tell us the house has a welcoming open, bright and light feel which helps them to relax and let go of their day-to-day anxieties , especially when they see the welcoming complimentary bottle of local wine and nibbles to enjoy.

There's also a wonderful fresh food market Nightingale Bros a little further past the Pub that sells the best local fresh produce, amazing cider and apples from their orchard. 5 Things that you MUST do while staying here:

1. Visit Mount Buffalo national park. It is a half hour drive, and visually spectacular. You must do a walk, and see what the world looks like from this amazing rock formation. Take a swim in the pure granite swimming holes or hire a canoe on lake Catani.

2. Have a coffee or lunch at the Wandi Maze. It is a 5 minute walk from the house through the historic diggings. Try a piece of the enormous delicious passionfruit sponge cake!

3. At night under a clear starry sky, you simply must stargaze from the deck of The Evening Star. The deck has been designed so that you are immersed beneath a truly spectacular night sky.

4.. Go for a day trip to up to Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain. On the way up to Mount Hotham you could stop off and walk across the Razorback to Mount Feathertop. The views and sense of space from up there are truly mind blowing. However if you just feel like hanging around Wandi and chilling on the deck of The Evening Star- there's no better place to be!

Our home is situated in the foothills of the Alps. We live on a one acre block alongside Simmonds creek, and although it feels remote, it is walking distance to local restaurants and dining. You’ll love our home because of its quiet location, rammed earth beauty and gorgeous cottage gardens. You can fall asleep listening to frogs and wake up to beautiful bird calls.

The space
The guest space consists of a large room with a queen size bed, small dining table and an armchair. There is also a separate bathroom and toilet. Our laundry space has been set up with hotel style basics such as kettle, microwave, toaster and bar fridge for guests convenience. On rare occasions we might need to access the laundry space and cupboards.

Guest access
Guests have their own entrance and can either choose to remain in their own space, with their separate room (with queen size bed, bathroom and toilet) or they are welcome to visit us in our living space. The guest room is spacious so a mattress can be added for a child. by. You are welcome to use the kitchen to cook a meal. Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to utilise our kitchen. The guest space has a small fridge, toaster, kettle and hot drink making facilities as well as a microwave oven. We encourage guests to support local restaurants and pubs who rely on a busy winter trading period.
Note: our property is not fenced and there is a creek and dam close by. We are dog friendly but you will need to keep your dog close by and not plan to leave it unattended.

During your stay
We welcome the chance to get to know you and share stories. Depending on when you are staying, we are often available to help with information about the local area. Between us we have a wealth of knowledge about the local area - great places to run, ski, hike and bike. You could even engage one of us to give you a personal tour of the famous Mount Beauty mountain bike park! Being teachers, we are generally at work and school between 9-5pm weekdays and around for the school holidays.

Other things to note

Telstra mobile reception is poor inside the house (1 bar) due to the rammed earth walls and hilly location. We kind of like it this way! Optus customers seem to have much better reception here.

My place is only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Bright, where you can access the Ovens River and enjoy wonderful restaurants and cafes. You’ll love my place because it offers a quiet, peaceful location with a laid back retro feel, on the doorstep to all the amazing activities in the area.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).

The unit had the ability to sleep up to five but 4 is most comfortabl. Unit contains 1 double bed in the main bedroom, 2 singles in the second bedroom and a futon couch in the lounge. (NO WIFI)


The units comes with a fully equipped kitchen (nothing flash, just the basics) allowing you to cook up a storm at home or with the property only a 10 minutes walk to town you can stroll down and enjoy a meal at one the many eateries that Bright has to offer.

The retro furniture and decor in the units will take you back in time to a time of carefree living, and the gardens surrounding will make you feel relaxed on arrival.

Bright has so much to offer, the activities seem endless. While staying you could try:
- Golf at our 18 hole golf course.
- Paragliding.
- Mountain bike riding in the Mystic MTB Park.
- Bike riding along the Murray to Mountain bike trail.

Day trips are a must when visiting Bright. Wandiligong, Harrietville, Beechworth, Mt Beauty, Milawa and of course Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt Buffalo all offer visitors much to see and do.

Bright is known for its four distinct seasons and the Spring & Autumn Festivals help us to celebrate two of them, with open gardens, fireworks displays and parades in the main street.
Bright also plays host to many other amazing events over the course of the year including, Hot Rod weekend, Brighter days weekend and numerous sporting events.

My place is only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Bright, where you can access the Ovens River and enjoy wonderful restaurants and cafes. You’ll love my place because it offers a quiet, peaceful location with a laid back retro feel, on the doorstep to all the amazing activities in the area.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).
