The building is reminiscent of eighteenth-century New Orleans architecture and was built sometime before 1883. The apartment is on the second story and is always being updated with new and exciting improvements. The 'Kage House' is located at 120 Broadway in the heart of the Old Town Historical District on the corner of Broadway and Main Street and less than a 10 minutes' walk to the 'Century Casino'. On Main Street you will find many fine shops and restaurants, or just enjoy the scenic area as you walkabout. This is by far one of the best places in Cape to stay!!

The bedroom is furnished with a new Stearns and Foster king size firm pillowtop mattress/bed and flat screen tv with viewing of the Mississippi River from the east window. The living room is furnished with a 'Lazy Boy' queen size sleeper sofa and a 65" flat screen tv. The apartment is fully equipped. Internet/wifi usage is included in the price of your stay.

We are continually investing in the historical building. In October the kitchen counter tops were replaced with granite, the bedroom mattress was replaced with a very comfy firm pillowtop Stearns and Foster mattress, and the kitchen window was replaced with a Pella casement window which allows guests to open for fresh air if they wish. Extensive brick tuck pointing was completed in November on the exterior. Future interior renovations are planned.

Directly across the street is a restaurant by the name of Minglewood. You can enjoy dining as well as a large selection of craft beers.

Enjoy relaxing outside on the deck with a river view of the Mississippi and the historical Old Town Cape dynamic downtown area.

THINGS TO DO IN CAPE GIRARDEAU:
Here are a few activities you might enjoy while your in Cape Girardeau. If you and your family like to swim, Cape Splash Family Aquatic is the place for you. Cape Conservation Nature Center, Discovery Playhouse and the Missouri Wall of Fame also are some great places to visit.

Trail of Tears-only 8 miles from the cabin, if you like swimming in a lake and hiking, and history you need to make the trip out to the State park, This is where the Cherokee Indians were forced to relocate in which the name was giving Trail of Tears. Your only a few minutes from the Cabin to Cape Rock, a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River, if you are a hiker it's a nice walk to the Rock.

Isle Casino is only a few minutes from the cabin if you like the thrill of winning. Main Street downtown Cape Girardeau is a great place to go. Lots of restaurants, shopping, and playing only a few minutes from the cabin.

Please note that there is no true dining room table. It does have a dining island, and we have a TV trays available. There is a folding table and 4 folding chairs available if needed. There are out door only cameras for security. The basement is not accessible to guest.

Everything was great, we sat on the rooftop until 3AM and had the best time! I was honestly mostly worried about road noise since I’m a light sleeper but the place was quiet and the mattress was perfect. We didn’t really have any directions for checking out so hopefully the start of the laundry was ok. Andrew was nice enough to recommend some local restaurants as we are not so much into chains. Surrounded by trees, the pool was absolutely amazing to enjoy; the perfect Missouri summer. The home's decor is adorable, and the beds are comfy! The pool was great and the main reason why this home was chosen, so if I would make improvements, it would be the grounds around the pool and house; A stiff broom for keeping the mulch off the patio would be helpful in keeping the pool clean with children around; I would also minimize the pool toys to a few good quality pieces and new storage for these items outside of the landscaping mulch. Things worked out perfectly for our large gathering of grandchildren of various ages. Kitchen was nice and pool table is a great entertainment benefit. OUR FAMOUS NEIGHBOR
That may make sense when you realize that "Brickyard" sits right next to The Sherwood-Menton House (built in 1846) -- established by The Rev. Adiel Sherwood as The Cape Girardeau Academy - a Baptist school for boys; then later, The Washington Seminary for Young Women; next home to the lawyer Mr. Matthew Moore, who was editor of the Southern leaning newspaper, 'The Cape Girardeau Eagle', who fled with his family when Cape was occupied during the Civil War, leaving the house fully furnished. Seized by The Union as "Southern contraband" it first served as officers' quarters and then as a Civil War hospital. We have one of the most storied and historic houses in Cape Girardeau as our neighbor!

GOING DUTCH
The architectural style of "Brickyard" is Dutch Colonial Revival, a style of architecture popular in the Hudson River Valley with the early settlers of New York. In restoring the house we decided to explore that connection even further.
The "Dutch" influence gets repeated throughout the house; from the Dutch door welcoming guests on the front porch to the many tulips and other flowers planted in the yard; from the blue and white, vintage "everyday" dinnerware called "Countryside", a Delft dinnerware pattern made by Wedgwood to the antique blue and white Delft porcelain and brass chandelier we imported for the kitchen! (Okay, "technically" our Delft chandelier came from Denmark ... but, close enough!)

THE LAYOUT
The original 1920 floorplan of this kit home on Washington Avenue was actually called, "The Washington" by The Standard Home Company.

UPSTAIRS: features the "private" bedroom and bath spaces
* Bedroom 1: is a "master suite" with a modern Queen brass bed from Crate & Barrel featuring Ralph Lauren (or similar quality) bed linens. Storage is not a problem with an antique armoire and two closets -- one with a shoe drawer (soon to be completed). And at the end of the day, curl up with a favorite book, a throw blanket, and a cup of tea in the vintage plaid reading chair or two red Chinoiserie wingback chairs flanking a large round, tufted ottoman.
* Bedroom 2: This bedroom is designed to bring the outdoors in. It is furnished with a Deco inspired, burled wood "bedroom suite". This antique set from The Commonwealth of Kentucky includes a full size bed, vanity desk, and a dresser. There are two closets in this bedroom.
* Bathroom 1: is a spacious full bath with a large walk in shower supplied with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Step out of the shower and onto a hygienic diatomaceous earth bathstone while drying off with lush 100% organic Turkish cotton bath towels from Crate & Barrel. The bathroom has great lighting as well as natural light. The toilet is discretely tucked behind a wall.
* The Laundry Room - is conveniently located on the second floor and has all the essential items: ironing board, iron, spray starch, laundry detergent sheets, Oxyclean, a place to let clothes hang to dry, and brand new Samsung stackable front-loading washing machine and dryer.

The MAIN FLOOR featured the "common areas" of the house for shared living.
* The Living Room - Design in the 1920's was surprisingly "modern" reflecting the discovery of atoms and the promise of an atomic age -- note the sunburst mirror behind the sofa and the four Andromeda Sputnik wall sconces by Robert Abbey.
We also drew inspiration from the Palm Springs retreats of the starlit set who graced the silver screen. Desert Hollywood bungalows in places like Old Las Palmas held Bohemian and Hollywood glam elements together, in equal parts.
Our interpretation of that deliberate blending of styles is perhaps best expressed by the Bohemian Bamboo Loveseat and Ottoman, the antique blonde, Japanese Tansu Chest, and the elegant Ralph Lauren Kirsten Sofa that is practically a day bed -- perfect for afternoon naps or an unexpected guest.
The vintage Whittall Anglo-Wilton Persian rug in the center of the living room, called "Bird of Paradise," came from Mother Grant, matriarch of the Grant Family. This pattern was one of three matching rugs in varying sizes that she collected. Matthew J. Whittall’s handsome and durable wool carpets were made in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Living Room has the widest range of juxtaposed modern and antique pieces -- from a weighted Yamaha electronic keyboard -- the rehearsal keyboard for San Francisco Lyric Opera and Urban Opera on the south end of the room to an antique "kitchen clock" by Elias Ingraham at the north end of the room -- a wedding present given to great grandparents, Avery Rosewell, Sr, and Sarah “Sadie” Ellen (Hahn) Crites in 1913 which has faithfully chimed the hour ever since -- Or how about the Sony 50" Frame Television which hangs above an antique mantel (more on the mantel in a moment) while Mother Grant's rocker -- which rocked many-a Grant baby "many-a mile" -- now sits in the corner, observing all of the comings and goings at Brickyard.
Fun fact: The light gold wall stencil, shimmering behind the Kirsten sofa, has a bee in it. See if you can spot it.
The advent of kit homes brought about a standardization of certain furnishings. By 1920, most fireplace mantels in American "kit houses" were 72" long (unless it was for an extremely large mansion or a very small cottage). Sadly, the current mantel is not the original mantel at "Brickyard" - but it is 72" in length. This vintage mantel came from a house near York, Pennsylvania. And as luck would have it, the curvature of the brickwork matches the curvature of the mantel perfectly. Sometimes, you just get lucky! Yet, as beautiful as the fireplace is; it only smokes -- even after we added additional height to the chimney. But, given the size of the living room vs. the size of the fireplace, it would run you out of there in no time if it did work!
* The Dining Room - An elegant, antique Bombay chest serves as a sideboard in front of cork wallpaper on an accent wall. The accent wall was originally a closet. Back in the day, a good host would welcome guests at the front door and offer to hang up their coat, cloak, or jacket. (We reclaimed the space to add a much needed pantry in the kitchen instead.) A striking china deck filled with family heirloom dinnerware from the period holds patterns collected by aspirational aunts who dreamt of someday, finally “making it." Collecting any of these sets of dishes helped convince them (and of course their friends and neighbors) that they had indeed, successfully made it to the American middle class. The dining table and chairs belonged to “Big Mom” and “Papa," Freda and Gene Grant and this is just one of the MANY colors it was painted over time. It was the table the family used for supper when they lived out “on the farm”where The Grant Family managed the cotton production for The McMullin Estate, just north of Sikeston, in "Grant City". The table also hosted many of Papa's poker games and countless hands of Liverpool rummy with Big Mom's THIRTEEN brothers and sisters: The Lamberts of Sikeston. (Yes, THOSE Lamberts.)

* The Back Porch with a frog “gigger,” crystal chandelier, and an outdoor bathroom which was added in memory of Chip’s father, E.E. "Chuck" Grant III who would not be well with having to walk upstairs or downstairs to go to the bathroom. And you know, he was right! It is MUCH more convenient to have a toilet and sink on each floor!

The “feel” of * The Basement is reminiscent of the open floor plan of the industrial loft where we lived in The South End of San Francisco, California. Originally, it was home to a monstrous Holland coal burning furnace that was as big as “Robot” from “Lost in Space” (look it up) with eight arms running off in every direction. It filled half the space and was terribly inefficient. (Three of its five pieces are in the backyard; two pieces form the firepit.) We painted the ceiling black so it would “disappear” and the eye would be drawn to the basement windows overlooking the garden and the park, punctuated by some favorite copies of the iconic work of the clever and always irreverent graffiti artist, “Banksy." The toile paneling around the efficiency kitchenette was originally in the dining room! We had to save it; just not upstairs.

There is on-street parking directly in front of the house. From Washington Avenue a cement staircase nestled between boxwoods and solar lumiere pathlights leads up, Up, UP fifteen steps to the front yard! The path continues across the yard and up five wooden steps to the front porch.

This cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway or a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is truly a hidden gem. This cabin historically was once part of the “Girls Scout Camp.” The cabin was originally the dining hall and it was later renovated to a studio cabin. As you walk into the cabin you will feel a cozy, rustic charm. The main focal point is the beautiful stone fireplace in the center of the cabin. There is a desk for writing, dining room area and bedroom area with a queen size bed and a daybed that can sleep an additional 2. There’s a bathroom/shower and dressing area with a full length mirror. A full kitchen is located right off of the living room. At the end of the day you can relax and listen to the crackles of the fire in the fireplace or sit outside and watch the deer pass by. There is also a pavilion that can be used for additional charge. BRIGHT, large, quiet, 2nd-floor rooms. No parties . Not 420 friendly . Two rooms are available upstairs, Soft, sanitized sheets. Great mattress . Refrigerator, broiler , air fryer snack /eating area closet, desk, coffee maker. The antique claw foot tub , has a handheld unit NO BATHS only hand held showers .. it is not built for baths sorry . You have a private apartment but have to access thru the owners living room . No guest access to owners first floor kitchen, living room.

I live downstairs.. and rent the two bedrooms and bath upstairs. . Clean, QUIET (, SAFE, nonparty house . Newer Organic pillows. Very new, thick, comfy mattress. KITCHEN -laundry is only available if I'm there, but coffee, tea, snacks, and refrig and multi purpose broiler / air fryer toaster and hot plates are upstairs airbnb area . FLUFFY newer DESIGNER LINENS. 1 mile walk SEMU, or down town.. small loving quiet english cocker spaniel on the premises.. . THERE ARE NO FOUR SEASONS, BUT COMFY. The small refrigerator with a seperate freezer is pictured . Very spacious room for a crib or sleeping bag or work out area. Please no baths only hand held showers

.. I keep bleach solutions and other cleaning material at hand so no germs here if you help too !!! There is a 2nd bedroom that will be rented out on occasion, too, usually when I'm there. It's close to downtown and SEMY.

I leave out tea and coffee fixings, sodas so you can help yourselves. In the summer there is fresh fruit in frig but in the winter I can leave it out. .

The Suite is located on a corner property so parking on either side of the street is permitted. The neighborhood has a walking path that will take you over the small creek that crosses through Dennis Scivally Park. It is common to see deer, squirrels, cardinals and other animals in the early morning and late evening.

Smoking of any kind is NOT permitted on the property. Additional cleaning fees may apply in order to keep the property in top shape for all guests to enjoy!

The Studio Suite is connected to the main house but is in its own space. Access between the guest space and house is impossible due to a two-way locking system for your security and privacy.

You’ll have the entire basement studio to yourself. My neighborhood is quiet and minutes to all Cape Girardeau has to offer. You’ll have your own off street parking and your own private entrance. Your entrance is located in the back. You’ll have a short walk through the yard to the back of the house and your private entrance, but the yard is enclosed in a privacy fence and well lit.
There’s a small patio at your entrance with deck chairs so you can enjoy the peaceful back yard in the evenings.
I do live on the main level and check in is no contact, I leave you your privacy but I’m usually around if needed. ‘RING’ doorbell and and keypad entry system at your entrance for safety.

This property is a newly remodeled two room efficiency apartment. It is very cozy, clean and nicely decorated. It can sleep 2 adults (full size bed). It has wifi (the wifi information is provided here ones you have booked and or on the wall near the refrigerator). The tv has our local (regular) channels under the Spectrum app and under the Roku app, live tv offers more unfamiliar channels. The apartment is located in the back of my home off the garage. Parking is through the alley in the parking space closest to the garage, but not off the garage. Please no animals and no smoking in the apartment. Thank you

This rental is in the heart of downtown Cape with all the restaurants, nightlife and shopping at your leisure. It is an airy upper unit on the corner of Themis and Spanish streets just one block from the mighty Mississippi. The owner's law office is housed on the main level. Included is king size bed, queen pull out couch, full size futon, and queen air mattress. Come and relax on the spacious deck and enjoy the local flair.

The space
Located on Mississippi River which also hosts a railroad through downtown. Some whistles of the railroad will be heard throughout your stay. This is also in a bar and entertainment district. Bars close at 1:00 AM. so it is not uncommon to hear pedestrian and street traffic. If you are a light sleeper, you might be advised to bring some ear plugs for sleeping.
Our unit does have a small "sound machine" which has multiple settings for white noise, etc.
Also included are disposable plates, napkins, utensils, wine bottle opener, extra pillows and blankets.

The entire upper unit is yours. This includes a living room, master bedroom, full bath, kitchenette area, foyer, private deck. There is a small gate at top of stairs. There is no access for you to go downstairs into the law office.

This historic guesthouse dates back to the late 1800s. It has been said to have been the outdoor kitchen of the Victorian Gothic mansion on the same property. It has all the historic charm with the comfort of modern amenities. A single-space carport and street parking are available for your convenience.

The Cottage at Eden is location in downtown Cape Girardeau. It is across the street from the Old Red Cabin and Historic Old St. Vincent Church. This unique building was built in 1830.

The space
This unique space was an old Carriage House on the property of Eden Health Spa and Salon. It is approximately 600 square feet and includes a full kitchen. It is located in downtown Cape Girardeau. Eden was built as part of the Old St. Vincent Catholic Church campus and served as a rectory and later the beginning of the Ursline Nun School for Girls.
