- "Came for a fishing tournament on elk lake. Wives met us at the cabin . We all had a great weekend " - "My son and his girlfriend wanted to get away for a weekend and they asked me to plan a trip. Although I was born and raised in Michigan, I hadn't spent much time in this area of Michigan, After much searching, I found this cabin that seemed to meet our needs. The weekend we chose happened to be an unusually chilly and windy weekend and we are glad this cabin had heat (not advertised on VRBO). There are 4 cabins that are situated right on Thayer Lake. The area does have a large number of residences, but the cabins still felt isolated. The cabins are located between Alden and Bellaire so access to stores and restaurants was easy. The cabin itself was cozy with everything we needed for a weekend. It was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The cabins seemed fairly new or recently remodeled. The size of the cabin was perfect for 4 adults. Although we didn't use them, there were a number of row boats and kayaks that seemed to be available for guests. We saw deer in the mornings and evenings. The host did supply a folder with the wifi password as well as recommendations for activities and restaurants. Each cabin had a firepit available. We never interacted with the host, but I believe that we did see and host and waved as we drove into the cabin. The only constructive feedback I would provide is that if I would have stayed here longer than a weekend, I would have liked a little more cookware to be able to make meals in the cabin. "

The cottage is on Clam Lake, between Torch Lake and Lake Bellaire on the Elk River Chain of Lakes, with quick and easy access by boat or by land to Torch Lake and the rest of the Chain of Lakes. Dockside bar and restaurant and the adjacent public beach on Torch Lake are a ten minute walk or boat ride from the cottage, and Torch Lake sandbar is also a short boat ride away. The golf courses and ski slopes at Shanty Creek and Schuss Mountain, and also the restaurants and shops of Bellaire and Alden are all within 15 minutes’ drive. Day trips to all of the beautiful northern Michigan towns are all around you, including Traverse City (30 miles), Charlevoix (30 miles), Petoskey (45 miles), Sleeping Bear Dunes (55 miles) and more.
The long slender shape of Clam Lake, with its calm and warmer water, is ideal for boating and water sports. Bring your boat or rent one from one of four rental locations on Clam Lake and tie up to our permanent dock. The public boat ramp on Clam Lake is five minutes (1.5 miles) away. Enjoy fun and safe swimming and fishing right off the dock, which is situated at the start of the Clam River no-wake zone. Grass River is less than ten minutes by boat for superb fishing, and nature lovers will really enjoy the walking trails of the Grass River Natural Area, accessible by boat or car. An ideal half-day for a paddler is launching from Bellaire and paddling 8.5 miles down Intermediate River, across Lake Bellaire, through Grass River, and across Clam Lake back to the cottage. Or continue on the last half mile to Torch Lake and Dockside bar and restaurant for drinks and a great meal. The small public beach adjacent to Dockside is a great place to pull your kayak or canoe out if you continue past the cottage. Mountain biking, hiking, running, cross-country skiing, and sledding are 15 minutes away at Glacial Hills, or explore northern Michigan wine tasting - Torch Lake Cellars winery is 5 minutes from the cottage.
One of the best parts of the cottage is the deck above the boat house over-looking Clam Lake. The deck is perfect for outdoor meals, watching the boats, kayaks, and swans float by, and taking in sunsets over the marina and Clam River bridge. The cottage has a large living room and kitchen and two full bathrooms to accommodate groups. It sleeps 8 comfortably with 2 queen beds, 1 full bed, and 3 twins. The main bedroom has 1 queen bed, sleeping 2. The second bedroom that faces the lake has 1 queen bed, 1 full bed, and 2 twin loft beds, sleeping 5 or 6. There is also a bed with a twin mattress in the living room for additional sleeping. If the size of your group is slightly larger than 8, we can discuss options. The large living room is ideal for entertaining and family gatherings around the fireplace. With cathedral ceilings, a 65” wifi-enabled HDTV to watch your favorite sports and movies, and plenty of comfortable seating on two couches, two arm chairs, and several director’s chairs that can be moved around as needed, your family and friends will have plenty of space to enjoy a memorable and relaxing vacation. We gave the living room and second bedroom fresh paint and updated the furniture in the living room and second bedroom to give the cottage a fresh new look. The garage and driveway can hold up to 4 vehicles or 3 vehicles plus your boat trailer.
Outdoor (ONLY) Security: There are 2 outdoor ONLY security cameras. Front exterior of the home. Back exterior of the home.
We have worked hard to create a home that is welcoming and comfortable for our guests, and we hope you’ll love the memories you make staying at the Cottage on Clam Lake as much as we do.

HAPPY AS A CLAM LAKE HOUSE!
Clam Lake Michigan, Chain of Lakes, Torch Lake
Bellaire, Michigan
2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1800 sq ft
Est. Fall of 2019
Newly remodeled
Instagram: @happyasaclamlakehouse
BACKGROUND:
Welcome to our slice of UP NORTH heaven! Making lasting memories!
We purchased our dream cottage on CLAM LAKE in the fall of 2019 after renting and vacationing on CLAM for the last 45 years. My grandparents and parents were born and raised here so really for me it’s been all my life. We have been working for the past year remodeling this gem. At first making the 600 mile trip for long weekends until the pandemic lockdown. Once Michigan opened up again we were fortunate enough to spend 5 months of the pandemic here finishing up the cottage and enjoying the lake. We hope we have made it the perfect place to share with our guests.
Our lake front cottage is situated on the northwest side of CLAM LAKE right at the opening to the world famous TORCH LAKE! Less than a 5 minute boat ride to TORCH LAKE! Then a short boat trip to the famous TORCH LAKE SANDBAR!
CLAM LAKE is the perfect location to enjoy all of the CHAIN OF LAKES. Did you know that you can start in downtown BELLAIRE and boat all the way to LAKE MICHIGAN on the CHAIN OF LAKES?!! Some even paddle the chain in a kayak or paddle board!
OUTDOOR:
You can enjoy full use of our permanent 30 ‘ dock for your boat or for fishing. There is a CLAM LAKE boat launch just down the road so bring your boat or rent one when you get here. DeWitt’s Marine, Butch’s, Dockside and Northaire Resort all rent pontoon boats & jet skis right here on the lake. There a a couple more in Rapid City MI that will deliver. Gas and convenience items are available at both DeWitts and Butch’s. If you are boating be sure to float down the beautiful GRASS RIVER for a relaxing time, we love to do this for our morning coffee or Bloody Mary cruise. And of course blast over to the SANDBAR for the ultimate in blue waters with a soft sandy bottom. CLAM LAKE is an excellent place for water skiing & tubing as it is much calmer. It can be just like glass at times, especially in the mornings.
One key outstanding feature of the cottage is the large wrap around deck! Perfect for boat watching by day and stargazing by night. The stunning sunset blazes into CLAM LAKE from TORCH LAKE, you don’t want to miss it! Below the deck is a marvelously large brick patio space with table for more outdoor living and dining and grilling. Especially nice if a little rain sneaks up so you can still enjoy the view. Enjoy roasting hotdogs & s’mores by the fire pit. We have one 10’ kayak and one youth 6’ kayak as well as one 10’ SUP board for your enjoyment. Use of theses as well as swimming is at your own risk.
INDOOR:
The HAPPY AS A CLAM LAKE HOUSE has an open floor plan including a great room with a vaulted ceiling and large windows that provide a spectacular lakeside view. There are also beautiful lake views from the bedrooms.
A fully equipped kitchen. A counter with bars stools. A coffee bar with a Keurig which will make both a full pot of coffee or single cup pods.
We have been working hard to make our happy place perfect for our guests. So many new things! All brand new appliances in the kitchen and new washer/dryer (laundry room located downstairs). New flooring. New cozy furniture. We built a new farmhouse table so the whole family will enjoy delightful dining by the window, playing games or doing puzzles. TWO brand new Smart TVs, a 65” upstairs and a 55” downstairs and one small smart TV in the bedroom. And best of all … brand new mattresses so you will get plenty of R&R!

- "The “Happy as a Clam” house was just that for our group. Our younger children had the entire downstairs of the house to themselves while we were able to enjoy the master and large wraparound deck. Plenty of room for a family of six, nice and close to the marina and Torch Lake where we rented a boat for the week. The weather was less than cooperative, but the kids had fun playing games and doing puzzles and shopping in Bellaire, Alden and Traverse was easily accessible. We had a great stay and if you love swimming, fishing and boating this is the perfect rental!"

Located in the in the quaint little village of Alden, pristinely nestled on the sunset shore of Torch Lake, Alden Sunset Cabin is located within a stones throw of beautiful Torch Lake. While not located on the lake, you will be so close that on a quiet night you may be able to hear the waves lap against the shore or the loons sing to each other as the sun sets. Enjoy a camp fire in your own fire pit, hang out on your patio while grilling dinner on your own Weber grill or just relax in the totally renovated log cabin with all the modern amenities and comforts of home. The Alden Sunset Cabin provides parking for 2 vehicles and additional space for a boat trailer on the property. The cabin offers your family (4 people or less) the perfect setting to explore the wonderful world of Torch Lake and Alden.
If you need a 2nd Cabin or just a slightly larger cabin please check out our other cabin. Alden Sunset Cabin (VRBO # 2393347) is located directly next door. Alden Sunset Cabin is virtually identical to Alden Sunrise Cabin with the exception that Alden Sunset Cabin is slightly larger and provides a separate bedroom.
Why would anyone stay in a hotel??
Walk to Alden or Public Beaches or Accesses
The Alden Sunset Cabin is located within a ¼ mile of four public beaches (lake accesses) located along Lake Street which is easily accessed by way of a short trail through the woods on our property. The public beaches are open during the day for your enjoyment and provide a wonderful setting for your family to enjoy the beautiful water of Torch Lake. The public beaches (lake accesses) DO NOT allow overnight mooring of your boat or water craft and are closed at night. Please don’t do this.
Alden Sunset Cabin is a short 1/4 mile walk as well from downtown Alden – a charming small town with a spirit you have to experience to believe. Alden is known for its flower-lined streets where everyone you meet offers a friendly greeting. Alden has several restaurants, and Higgins General Store that has the best, biggest, ice cream cones you could ever eat. The town has cute boutique stores, a deli, family bar, tennis and basketball courts, and a park with a playground. Just at the end of the road are the public boat launch, library and community center. The popular Dockside restaurant is just 10 minutes away by boat or car. Torch Lake’s famous sandbar is also a short boat ride away at the southern end of the lake.
Comfortable Family Cottage
Alden Sunset Cabin is fully furnished and provides central air conditioning for those extra hot summer nights as well as Flat Screen Cable TV and Wi-Fi. We supply all linens, pillows, towels, paper products and soap products. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and all pots and pans as well as a dining table which seats four. We provide a queen sized, pillow top bed along with a pull out couch that converts to a queen size bed. The patio provides a Weber Grill along with an outside table and seating for four. We also provide several comfortable chairs for your relaxation. You can’t go “up north” without enjoying a camp fire and the cabin has its own fire pit along with 4 chairs for everyone’s comfort.
Alden Sunset Cabin is located within the village of Alden on SE Torch Lake Drive and has access to Lake Street which is a very quiet street via a wooded trail west of the cabin. We encourage you to utilize this trail for walks and bike rides. Alden Sunset Cabin has a maximum occupancy of 4 people.
Disclaimer: Please remember, this cabin has been designed and is intended for families or couples and is ideally suited for people looking to build life long memories.
Alden Sunset Cabin is DEFINETLY NOT a party cabin. If you’re looking for a party cottage – please look elsewhere.
My family has lived on this street for over 50 years and we have made life long friends. We respect their right for quiet enjoyment of beautiful Torch Lake and we ask that you do the same. Our summer home is located directly adjacent to the Alden Sunset Cabin.
We look forward to seeing you soon!!

- "Our Son and his family went camping across the street from our cottage at Barnes park camp grounds. Great family trip. Our cottage was great! Definitely my kind of camping. Very nice cottage. Would stay again and recommend it to friends and others." - "Our stay was just what we needed. We felt like we were home, but away from home with all its responsibilities. The cottage was very clean. The bed was super comfortable. The kitchen was supplied with everything we needed to make meals if we wanted to. We enjoyed going to both the beautiful Torch Lake and Lake Michigan, both walking distance from the cottage. It was altogether a perfect get away for us. Although we didn’t need to call Jeff, our host, we knew he was available for any of our questions. We will definitely tell others about this opportunity."

- "I’ve been vacationing in this area my entire life and have family that lives in Bellaire. This cottage was adorable and clean, stocked with almost everything needed for a vacation. The decor was so cute and eclectic, the backyard was great for my little kids to play in, and we loved walking to get ice cream in town every night. The road the cottage is on can be busy and the cars sometimes drive fast, so I worried with my little kids. That is no fault of the cottage or owners. We loved our stay here!"

- "We enjoyed our stay on Clam Lake! The beds were very comfortable, including the couch bed. The house was clean. The owner communicated with us throughout our stay when necessary. The only bummer was we couldn’t use the dock. We brought our boat (with a deep v hull) and were not able to use the boat dock due to low water levels. The dock would probably be okay for a pontoon boat or similar. You might want to scout out ramps when you get there as some are better than others. Most ramps have very little parking nearby so go early to launch! We enjoyed going to dockside, shorts brewing and torch lake beer company. We had a fantastic time at the sandbar on lake torch. Beautiful lakes! Being right on clam lake was very relaxing."

Thanks for allowing us to stay" - "All the renovations made this cabin so much better to stay in. We had stayed 3 times previous, snd it was more of a rustic fishing cabin. Now it is a perfect cabin for anyone. We had great neighbors in the cabin next door too. Only bad thing about our stay was the fishing has really slacked off in the last 5 years. We didn't catch half as many as we have in past years. Overall, i would highly recommend thus cabin to anyone looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful setting."

This is an original log cabin that uses a well for water and has a septic system. We ask that you please be mindful of what goes down the drain. Most of the cabin was recently refurbished; however, it still maintains its original charm and some of the original fixtures. It is well kept and clean but it is on the lake so please do not be surprised to see an occasional bug inside.
There are two 30-foot docks that are available during the stay for personal or rental boats. Kayaks are also available for use with lifejackets provided.
This is a dog friendly cabin and even though we do a thorough job cleaning, if you are allergic to dogs this may not be the best option for you.
The cabin sits on a double lot, so there is room for parking both vehicles and trailers in the yard next to the cabin. The cabin is located about a mile east of Torch Lake and provides access via water.

This house is located outside Alden. It sits on 35 acres and is 1/4 of a mile from the road. The location is rural, secluded and quiet. There is ample parking for boats and recreational vehicles. The view from the deck is spectacular, you can see out over 10 miles. It's private and has a wide wraparound deck, with a covered area at the front. It's perfect for grilling, relaxing and watching the sky after a day out. The kitchen is open and provides a lot of space for food preparation.
The space
This house was built by my father after he retired. He enjoyed ten years of retirement here. I like the idea of sharing with others this beautiful space he created.
With deer, horses, sandhill cranes, ground squirrels, the occasional eagle, various songbirds, and upland sandpipers, there is a lot of animal watching from the deck.
It is impossible to oversell the view from the deck. I have had guests who had planned on eating out cancel those plans and stay home and eat dinner in so they could soak in the view.
The house does not have cable or internet. The TV does have a digital antenna. The TV does not have the capability to communicate with phones for casting. There is an HDMI cable for laptops.
The kitchen is stocked with nonperishable essentials (Salt, pepper, sugar, dishwashing soap).
I have listed that AC is available. I have a window unit. Since the house isn't that big, it works really well. Fortunately, the nights during the summer are mild and it's not needed a lot of the time.
Guest access
This is a one-floor home. You have access to the entire house. There is a basement which will not be accessible.
There is also a barn which is not accessible.
Other things to note
My sister Julie lives across the street. She has access to the barn. She stores equipment in there that she occasionally needs access to. She's friendly and likes to meet guests. Say hello, if you see her.

Life is demanding, but vacations shouldn't be. When you stay at the Cottage on Clam Lake, your Up North Get-Away is a true get-away from all of life's demands. Sitting on the boat house deck with the sun on your face or around the firepit feeling the warmth of the fire will transform you into the best version of yourself: peaceful, refreshed and rejuvenated.
This waterfront cottage is on Clam Lake, between Torch Lake and Lake Bellaire on the Elk River Chain of Lakes, with quick and easy access by boat or by land to Torch Lake and the rest of the Chain of Lakes.
Dockside bar and restaurant on Torch Lake is a 3 minute drive, or 10 minute walk or boat ride from the cottage, and Torch Lake sandbar is also a short boat ride away. The golf courses and ski slopes at Shanty Creek, and also the restaurants and shops of Bellaire and Alden are all within 15 minutes’ drive.
Or continue on to Torch Lake and Dockside bar and restaurant for drinks and a great meal. The public beach adjacent to Dockside is a great place to pull your kayak or canoe out if you continue past the cottage, and a great place to go for a swim with family or friends in the clear sand-bottom water of Torch Lake. Trails for mountain biking, hiking, running, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling are 10 minutes away at Glacial Hills, or explore northern Michigan wine tasting - Torch Lake Cellars winery is 5 minutes from the cottage.
There is also a twin bed in the living room for additional sleeping. If the size of your group is slightly larger than 8, please contact us to discuss options. The garage has room for one vehicle and the driveway can hold up to 3 more vehicles or 2 vehicles plus your boat trailer.

Our "Little Cottage" is a one-room (+ bedroom and bath) summer family rustic cottage built in the 1950's. It is funky and vintage with simple decor, but it is ON THE WATER! Please do not book it if you are expecting a hotel type experience. It is on the west side of our Torch Lake property, which has a beautiful, sandy, gradual beach clear to the bottom. It is ideal for kids and for swimming, paddling and boating and nearby sightseeing.
The space
The "Little Cottage" is ONE of our TWO simple, rustic summer cottages located on 170+ feet of pristine Torch Lake sandy beach. Torch Lake is a gorgeous spring-fed lake that reflects colors of green, blue, and indigo. It has been called the Caribbean Sea of Michigan.
Our OTHER cottage, the "Big Cottage", is on the east side of the property about 25 feet away (see pics). The cottages are separated by a grassy area with young trees. See our other Airbnb listing if you are interested in renting both cottages together.
Please note that although the cottage sleeps 4, it is a tight space if all 4 are adults. The "Little Cottage" is best suited for a family. There is one double bed in the bedroom, and in the living room/kitchen/entry room area there is a futon couch. NO MORE than 4 guests may stay in the Little Cottage at any time.

All outside areas on the property including the beach, the main firepit, patio, dock, water toys/boats and raft are potentially SHARED with Big cottage guests.
Each cottage has its own picnic table and propane grill.
For maximum privacy we recommend you rent both cottages.

Other things to note
There are heaters (and fans) in the cottage, but it is a summer cottage only, so keep that in mind if booking at the ends of season. There is no AC.

Guest access
All spaces are yours for the extent of your visit! We're situated on a large lot with a one-car open air garage, a giant driveway with lots of parking for multiple cars, and plenty of lawn space for playing. The house is located just 15 yards from the shores of Torch Lake itself along with a deck, in-ground fire pit, and the dock for swimming, sunning, and enjoying life on the lake.
Solid (non-see-through) fences on both sides of the house borders the property lines and ensure your privacy from neighbors.
Other things to note
A few notes about our rental:
1. We do not allow pets in the home due to allergies and being right next to the lake.
2. Our dock is a light-weight Gorilla Dock that we do not allow tying off boats or watercraft to. We are located on the main body of Torch Lake that can get windy and wavy, and watercraft not lifted properly out of the water can cause damage and/or drag the dock away. We do allow storing of kayaks, SUPs or lake toys on the dock (as they can be pulled out of the water).
3. We have a large / long driveway that can fit travel trailers or RVs. The driveway is on relatively flat ground and shaped like the letter "P" in our rectangular shaped yard. You drive in from the bottom of the "P" coming from our cul-de-sac. The length of the driveway is roughly 120 feet long and the upper part of the "P" is roughly 50 x 50 feet of paved driveway all filled in. Outside of the "P" is green grass / dirt that makes turning around easy.
We only ask that you do *not* run over the neighbors sprinkler heads in the ground (it has happened before with pontoon boat trailers) in maneuvering/turning the trailer into our driveway (as you may have to take a wide turn).
