Accommodations were just what we needed, and the complimentary breakfast was extra delicious. Would go back again in a heartbeat. " - "Ms. Amanda and Luis are the best hosts! We were greeted with muffins fresh out of the oven topped with Ms. Amanda’s homemade jam. Luis had the yurt heater going because it was supposed to be in the 30s. It got down to 27. The yurt was cozy in spite of the temp. Saturday morning there was a hot breakfast ready when we woke up, and Saturday night we watched a movie surrounded by the beautiful fires, a full moon and the Hiwassee. It was the best weekend and we plan to return!"

- "Such an amazing trip. The tent was amazing. The set up was great the beds were super comfortable.Ivy was so nice and explained everything so that we can truly enjoy our experience . That was our first time camping. We will be back! " - "Communication leading up to and during the stay was excellent. We were staying over in Helen, GA on our way up to Tennessee, from Florida and thought it would be fun to "glamp" for the night. The tent is inside a state park and the "glamping" units are on converted RV sites. The staff made sure our tent was setup and heated for an early arrival so we could unload and unwind. We were unable to utilize the firepit and outside amenities due to a huge rainstorm, but the inside was warm and dry and accommodated 6 of us quote well. The wind howled quit loudly all night and the tent never budged or lost power or lost heat. Only downside is that there is very limited cell service at the location, but only really mattered because we were stuck inside during the rainstorm. Neat experience and would stay again."

We will definitely book again! " - "We had a really fun time on this site. My wife had never been camping before so the lack of running water and electricity was a bit of a shock. I came prepared for that though. My boys (3 and 8) had a blast exploring the woods, creek, and hanging out by the fire pit at night. During the day we took a hike in the gorge and explored some other amazing waterfalls in the area. We would definitely go back!"

- "Our trip was incredible! Beautiful, quiet, peaceful spot to camp. The shelter kept us dry from the rain. Mr. Gibbs provided dry firewood for us and affordable price. George was a pleasure to meet answered all questions we had about any fishing restrictions/rules of the community where the property is located. There are two designated fishing areas for communal use please make sure to ask George for specifics. We enjoyed bbq and fishing by the community access on the Toccoa River, caught a few trout even. Our dogs had space to roam without leashes and play together. The neighbor has two dogs off leash so just make sure if your dogs are off a leash they do not stray too far and play well with other dogs. Neighbor was very nice. Bring your hiking shoes it’s at mountaintop so you will have to walk a ways to get to fishing access/community access points. We will definitely be back it was a wonderful camping experience, first time with our pups! So good, we decided to stay an extra day! Thank you George!"

The camper was stocked with all the amenities that were spelled out in the VRBO description. We had a great time and will certainly consider going back there if we head for North Georgia any time soon." - "I would recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere to stay while visiting all the things surrounding this camp ground. We went to the highest peak in Georgia, tubing, water park, and amazing shops, rollercoaster mountain, and carriage rides in Helen,Ga (10 miles away) and then we rented jet skis and played in Lake Chatuge in Hiawasee, Ga about 30 minute drive. We only spent 3 days so I did not get to do the many other things like chasing waters falls in Cleveland or visit any of the many state parks. Like I said great spot to lay your head while visiting great places within 30 miles of each other. We seen mountains in 4 different states and road jet skis in 2 it’s a great corner of the country!"

Our Cafe and Marketplace are next door in the big metal building. Come grab a bite to eat and shop. Things to do around us are a lake with community pool, caverns, a few different national forests, kayaking, humpback bridge, falling springs falls and Lewisburg. Lewisburg was voted Americas coolest small town. All things I have listed are anywhere from 10 mins - an hour away.
- "This was our 2nd time staying here while we had a small event about 10 mins down the road. Once again the camper was very clean, and the animals are adorable! We were greeted by goats and a little barn cat wanted to be our best friend. Christine was beyond patient and responsive to my questions, and sadly we left an important bag behind. We had to drive 3 hours back to get it. She was so kind to acknowledge she had it and left it in the camper for us to get. If you need a little get away, I highly recommend the camper. The bed is very comfortable and the chairs and couch are too. Great host!"

Like everyone else said, pictures don’t do the tent justice. It’s so lovely and has everything you need. I was surprised by how many outlets were available. The rain shower was amazing and hot. The bed was comfy, loved the grill and fire table. The first night we (my 2 boxers & I) just relaxed and enjoyed being outside. The next day we hiked crabtree falls, hit up devil’s backbone outpost, and went to hull’s drive in. After we checked out we hit up the natural bridge before we headed home. Lots of dog friendly activities and more to try next time. We will definitely be back when it’s too cold to camp. This is a hidden gem and the cabins onsite also looked great. I plan on looking them up as well for a family trip."

She greeted us within minutes of our arrival and remained in contact with us during our stay. Absolutely beautiful campsite with a breathe-taking view, even on a foggy day. Not quite as private as we expected because fire pits were shared at the lodge, but facility was clean, well kept, with lodge closing at 11:00 so no noise. Fire pits were nice and wood was provided with plenty of seats and picnic tables." - "We had a wonderful time Glamping for the weekend. The fall colors were on point. The glamping tents and location to the restrooms and lounge were just perfect. We had wet and cold weather but still enjoyed the porches and the fact they are very dog friendly. Everett was more than welcoming and was kind enough to start a fire for us on Saturday when it wasn’t raining. We will define be making a return trip in the spring."

The cabin was clean and provided coziness along with entertainment between the barn animals, the fire ring outside and DVR to chill out indoors. " - "We had such a fantastic time at this property. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly (animals included), the land is gorgeous and well maintained, and the spaces were very clean especially considering that this is a farm tucked into the woods. Escape to North Carolina's most beautiful lake with a unique stay that immerses you in nature and fun, the Mermaid Boat. A fully operating houseboat, the Gigi Mermaid boat was built and launched in 2021. See our great reviews on the Narai & Gigi. Enjoy the lake, glamping with modern conveniences.
- Kitchenette with coffee maker and dishware
- Propane grill
- Air conditioning & heat
- Generator
- Marine toilet
- Sofa converts into a double bed
- Table converts into a single bed
- Bed linens
The Gigi Mermaid boat is decked out in Mermaid decor to create a memorable stay on Lake James. The sofa converts into a double bed and the kitchen table converts into a single bed. Linens and pillows are provided. There is a small marine toilet on board and a stocked kitchenette, which includes a Keurig coffee maker, toaster, dishware, and some cookware. This is not like staying at a hotel or in a house but is more of a glamping experience, so please set expectations accordingly.
- Linens (sheets, pillows, blankets, towels)
- Kitchen items (utensils, dishes, cookware, Keurig with k-cups, some spices, grill, paper goods, cleaning supplies)
- Trash bags, toilet paper, and paper towels are available on board
- Some goodies like cards, flashlights, books, and games are available as well
The boat has air conditioning and heat powered by a generator and electricity (and outlets). There is a propane grill on the front and a roof deck accessible ONLY when the boat is not in motion.
The boat is not docked, but there are several options for your overnight stay:
1. Reserve a boat-in campsite at Lake James State Park. You will have access to restroom facilities, a private campsite, and be able to have a fire or set up a tent. We recommend this for any longer stays
2. Stay on a public beach - these are usually the best beaches on the lake with premiere views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is no cost to use these beaches, but they can get crowded and noisy on holidays and weekends during prime summer months. If they are full upon arrival, you can expect space to begin to open up at sundown as boaters go home. There is no camping or fires allowed on these beaches.
3. Tie up to the old state park dock (meager traffic) or anchor in a cove overnight.
There is a generator that runs the air conditioner/heat and electricity. The kitchen consists of countertops, a coffee maker, and a pump sink. There is NO shower on the boat.
Guests will drive around Lake James, there are public beach areas they can pull the boat up on or anchor in a cove and swim. Lake James State Park has many boat-in camping sites that offer great amenities if you are staying overnight. You will have access to restroom facilities as well as beaches to play on if you book these sites (usually about $10/night).
I pick guests up at Canal Bridge public access, give them a tutorial on how to drive and use the boat, and then they drop me off and head out. I am available 24/7 and provide my personal cell to all my guests should they run into any issue or have any questions.
Park at Canal Bridge on James Ave - this public boat site is 24/7 and overnight parking is permitted. Canal Bridge is managed by Lake James State Park.
The houseboat feels more like a camping experience than a full-service hotel. There will be access to a grill, but no stove, oven, microwave, or refrigerator. Guests should plan to bring a cooler and plan food accordingly. There are no showers on the boat and only a pump sink with freshwater and marine toilet. We advise guests to use the toilet sparingly, as it has limited flushes, and use public restrooms as much as possible. We recommend guests reserve a boat-in campsite for stays longer than 2 days. It is required by NC law that all guests under 13 wear a life vest while the boat is in motion.
Must be 21 or older, show a valid driver's license, and have a valid boating license if you were born in 1988 or later. Search for NC Boating License online course, complete it online, and print and bring the license with you (Approximately $30).
- "My wife and I are local to the area and wanted to get out and enjoy the lake on a kid free weekend. We enjoyed our time on the houseboat and hope to do it again. John and his team were great hosts and made the outing extremely easy for us. Thank you for a great experience!" - "We rented Gigi late mid-March. This was our first experience on a house boat and we absolutely loved it! The lake is just beautiful, and the boat was very responsive and comfortable with no issues whatsoever. It’s well stocked with every little thing you might need. Once moored, we grilled some salmon on the small grill and also heated up other food we brought with us (also brought sheets of foil), and made coffee in the morning. John was always a phone call away, and we don’t have a single negative thing to say! Absolutely a magical trip!!!"
