- "Our stay every year is always fabulous! From the customer service to the activities. If i could get my husband to sell it all and move here believe me we would have left yesterday! " - "The cabins were nice with a beautiful view. They have a full kitchen and bathroom, which was unexpected. The cabin was clean but in need of some repair but overall it was satisfactory." - "This is a nice campground and is close to the Childress winery! We would like to go back when the pool is open. The game room has a pool table. The cabin was nice and we stayed as a couple. We brought our own linens. We couldn't have a fire but enjoyed sitting on the deck of the cabin at night listening to the frogs in the small lake. It had a full kitchen but we didn't need to use it. We will be back in the summer. "

- "Jason and Michelle are terrific. If you're looking for a place to unplug from the daily grind this is the place. The neighbors we interacted with were super friendly and welcoming. " - "We walked around and this appears to be the best spot in the campground. There is a floating patio with a view of the little lake and water wheel. Best part is the fence at the top. We closed that and our dogs were able to hang out with us off leash in that area. We loved our stay! A couple notes: Verizon cell service doesn’t work at all. Make sure you have all the information pulled up before you lose service driving in. We were told AT&T works there. The shared WiFi in the campground is weak and wasn’t strong enough to run things like TV streaming. We travel with our own WiFi, but sadly it is Verizon. Dog park doesn’t have bags for pick up so bring your own. "

- "We took the kids on a last-minute camping trip and found the perfect spot hidden atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. Within minutes of booking, the owner of the lot (Maureen) called me to confirm our reservation and provide us with details of the surrounding area. She greeted us within minutes of our arrival and remained in contact with us during our stay. Absolutely beautiful campsite with a breathe-taking view, even on a foggy day. We loved the freedom of being able to park our RV in the middle of the mountains on private land, rather than public/state parks full of regulations. We will definitely book again!!"

We had a great time and looking forward to returning later!" - "We booked a yurt here, while we were to attend FaithFest. When 30 minutes out from arrival, we received an email that our yurt had been over booked and we had nowhere to stay. We could have downgraded to a primitive tent. So here we are 4 hours from home with nowhere to stay for our weekend getaway. What was supposed to be a relaxing, unplugged weekend quickly turned into a very stressful anxiety filled weekend. "

It was beautiful and the sound of the creek water was so calming! The little touches around the property with motion lights and craftmanship or small attention to details was spot on. The property contact for questions was quick response time and very helpful. Can't wait to book again maybe in warmer temps next time but was a lovely and memorable experience for my family!"

This is a private neighborhood with no visible homes from the structure, along a very lightly traveled rural road. The A-frame sits about 120 feet from the Geodome in thick woods, which you can't see except in the winter. The tranquil sound of the creek will relax you. Occasionally, neighbors may fish the parking lot/waterfall area only. This is where the State releases trout.
The parking lot is about two miles or 7 minutes off Highway 421 South. The drive in is beautiful! You'll see a sign for Fall Creek Retreats and the address on a 19"x24" yellow and black sign. It's a pretty flat gravel road and parking lot with parking for up to 5 cars.
We have 2 other glamping sites available to rent in the glamping area. Each is private, on the creek, separated by 150 feet of woods and a full size cabin (400 yards away upcreek).
Below are nearby restaurants we like, sight seeing spots, hiking trails, wineries/breweries and more!

Grilling out on the boat and night fishing from the dock was very relaxing. The A/C was great as was the marina ship store and bath house! Highly recommend if you enjoy fishing!" - "Winter is not the time for a boat stay when you don’t have water, bathroom, refrigerator or sheets. Main lights didn’t work. It was a nice boat, but was not clean and were charged a $50 cleaning fee. Would be a nice experience in warmer weather. We stayed warm, but the amenities were turned off for winter. We left a day early."

Escape to North Carolina's most beautiful lake with a unique stay that immerses you in nature and fun, the Mermaid Boat. A fully operating houseboat, the Gigi Mermaid boat was built and launched in 2021. See our great reviews on the Narai & Gigi. Enjoy the lake, glamping with modern conveniences.
- Kitchenette with coffee maker and dishware
- Propane grill
- Air conditioning & heat
- Generator
- Marine toilet
- Sofa converts into a double bed
- Table converts into a single bed
- Bed linens
The Gigi Mermaid boat is decked out in Mermaid decor to create a memorable stay on Lake James. The sofa converts into a double bed and the kitchen table converts into a single bed. Linens and pillows are provided. There is a small marine toilet on board and a stocked kitchenette, which includes a Keurig coffee maker, toaster, dishware, and some cookware. This is not like staying at a hotel or in a house but is more of a glamping experience, so please set expectations accordingly.
- Linens (sheets, pillows, blankets, towels)
- Kitchen items (utensils, dishes, cookware, Keurig with k-cups, some spices, grill, paper goods, cleaning supplies)
- Trash bags, toilet paper, and paper towels are available on board
- Some goodies like cards, flashlights, books, and games are available as well
The boat has air conditioning and heat powered by a generator and electricity (and outlets). There is a propane grill on the front and a roof deck accessible ONLY when the boat is not in motion.
The boat is not docked, but there are several options for your overnight stay:
1. Reserve a boat-in campsite at Lake James State Park. You will have access to restroom facilities, a private campsite, and be able to have a fire or set up a tent. We recommend this for any longer stays
2. Stay on a public beach - these are usually the best beaches on the lake with premiere views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is no cost to use these beaches, but they can get crowded and noisy on holidays and weekends during prime summer months. If they are full upon arrival, you can expect space to begin to open up at sundown as boaters go home. There is no camping or fires allowed on these beaches.
3. Tie up to the old state park dock (meager traffic) or anchor in a cove overnight.
There is a generator that runs the air conditioner/heat and electricity. The kitchen consists of countertops, a coffee maker, and a pump sink. There is NO shower on the boat.
Guests will drive around Lake James, there are public beach areas they can pull the boat up on or anchor in a cove and swim. Lake James State Park has many boat-in camping sites that offer great amenities if you are staying overnight. You will have access to restroom facilities as well as beaches to play on if you book these sites (usually about $10/night).
I pick guests up at Canal Bridge public access, give them a tutorial on how to drive and use the boat, and then they drop me off and head out. I am available 24/7 and provide my personal cell to all my guests should they run into any issue or have any questions.
Park at Canal Bridge on James Ave - this public boat site is 24/7 and overnight parking is permitted. Canal Bridge is managed by Lake James State Park.
The houseboat feels more like a camping experience than a full-service hotel. There will be access to a grill, but no stove, oven, microwave, or refrigerator. Guests should plan to bring a cooler and plan food accordingly. There are no showers on the boat and only a pump sink with freshwater and marine toilet. We advise guests to use the toilet sparingly, as it has limited flushes, and use public restrooms as much as possible. We recommend guests reserve a boat-in campsite for stays longer than 2 days. It is required by NC law that all guests under 13 wear a life vest while the boat is in motion.
Must be 21 or older, show a valid driver's license, and have a valid boating license if you were born in 1988 or later. Search for NC Boating License online course, complete it online, and print and bring the license with you (Approximately $30).
- "My wife and I are local to the area and wanted to get out and enjoy the lake on a kid free weekend. We enjoyed our time on the houseboat and hope to do it again. John and his team were great hosts and made the outing extremely easy for us. Thank you for a great experience!" - "We rented Gigi late mid-March. This was our first experience on a house boat and we absolutely loved it! The lake is just beautiful, and the boat was very responsive and comfortable with no issues whatsoever. It’s well stocked with every little thing you might need. Once moored, we grilled some salmon on the small grill and also heated up other food we brought with us (also brought sheets of foil), and made coffee in the morning. John was always a phone call away, and we don’t have a single negative thing to say! Absolutely a magical trip!!!"

- "This is a fantastic location. Nice, quiet, and plenty of room to roam around. If the weather would have been a little more favorable, we would have enjoyed spending more time outdoors. But, overall, it was great. The host is top notch and VERY accommodating. Im sure we will be back in the near future." - "We decided to make a last minute group Jeep trip to do some 4X4 trail riding and some kayaking for Memorial weekend. All of the campgrounds were booked up and since had kids with us we could not camp primitive (not yet at least). So I started looking at other options and found this lovely property. We ended up renting the barn also so that if we wanted to sleep in a bed, we had that option plus it kept any other strangers from renting it. We had the entire barn, kitchen, bathrooms and the space around for camping to ourselves. It was fabulous! The owners made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed including setting up our fire pit every day while we were gone! It was about a 25 minute drive to the El Dorado Outpost and a 5 min drive to Badin Lake where we played in the water! There was plenty for us to do on the property too with bikes for us to ride. We cannot wait to come back and bring more Jeeping friends with us! Thanks for a fabulous stay!"

** We do not currently provide firewood**Camp in style with all the comforts of home! With a queen bed, a futon sofa, fire pit, hot water, AC/dehumidifier, heat, shower, outdoor kitchenette, and outdoor movie night projector, there's not much left to be desired! The tent and lounge areas are protected from precipitation by a roof. Bring your furry friends for no extra charge, and come reconnect with nature in the woods just 4 minutes from Stone Mountain State Park and a half hour from over two-dozen wineries! The tent sits on a two-tiered deck and offers the comforts of home in an outdoor setting. Guests are provided with linens and towels, heat and air conditioning, propane grill, cookware, and a large cooler where groceries can be stored. A futon sofa provides a sleeping area for a third guest. With all of these features, it can be easy to forget that this experience is still fundamentally camping. Therefore, we do ask guests to properly secure food and waste items from wildlife that are very active throughout the area including black bear, coyotes, and bobcats. It is rare that any of our wild friends care to interact with humans, but it's better to be safe. Additionally, 4x4 or AWD vehicles are recommend for parking close to the camp site due to loose gravel and a grade, but alternative parking spots are available. The campsite is typically open year-round, but weather conditions are subject to requiring the water be shut off to the sink, shower, and toilet. This is only during winter months when temperatures are likely to cause our water lines to freeze and potentially burst. Water is still accessible at the campsite via a hydrant, however water will be turned off to the fixtures if temperatures dip below freezing. There are two log cabins nearby with the campsite less than 5 minutes from the entrance to Stone Mountain State Park. Guests are welcome to explore the property, but we ask all guests to be respectful of each other. Pets must be leashed when outside. This is for their safety, the safety of the wildlife, and that of other guest's pets.We do not live on-site but we are able to respond to messages or requests fairly quickly. Please reach out to us for any reason if necessary!
- "As I've never gone glamping before, I didn't have many expectations. It was a great experience! It was much more affordable than a full cabin and much more relaxing than regular camping. Everything was there that was needed and ample space for hanging out, even though it was raining at times. The yurt itself was very comfortable." - "It rained and stormed all weekend, and I was not bothered at all. Loved the sounds of the forest from the comfort of the Yurt, and the space to cook and sit by the fire pit was great. Relaxing and convenient!"

If you want a nice private place to stay, this is the spot" - "It was a cozy stay, I didn't expect to be as close as I was to others, other than that it was a nice jolt of camping and spot to place a tent. - "The grounds were beautiful! The tents were spaced out, but not so far that they didn't give a community feel. My boys really enjoyed the river access. It was shallow and easy to get to. Everything was well maintained and the grounds were very clean! I definitely recommend this place. It was an awesome experience."

Big dogs ok. There is no fence. That being said, read more.
We occasionally have bears. The rare elk, dear and coyotes have been seen in the area.
Wifi is included and we do have a 4~5 bar cell signal with good data. (I have Verizon)
We are on Zito Internet. Works 87% of the time. I say this because occasionally it can be out for hours or a few minutes.
There is a Christian summer camp on the other side of the tree line with a pool. Not sure how they will play out because of the recovery from the shut down. So expect noise from children. Normally by dark they are gone.
Fire wood. You can get local pit wood very cheap by the truck load. Or buy it at the local stores.
No Smoking – (Unless you are a cigar person.)

This camper will sleep 4 comfortably but will sleep up to 6 if you convert the table into a bed. Bunks are also larger so small kiddos can share as well.
