🛶This is the perfect spot to get away from it all. Our home is peaceful, quiet, and has plenty of distance from any neighbors. In fact, there's a good chance you won't even see anyone around the home or on the lake. Our home is on a very quiet cove and Mayo Lake itself has little to no boat traffic, even in the summer.

We are only 15 minutes from Hyco Lake, and Mayo Lake has a much more private feel than Hyco Lake.

🦅This beautiful home has lots of windows and incredible views of the lake. The floor plan is open and you will be greeted with beautiful pine floors as you enter. The views are amazing! In our cove there are often Snowy White Egrets, Blue Herons, jumping fish, turtles, and sometimes Bald Eagles and Beavers. The fishing on our dock is fantastic. You can catch Crappie and Bass. The night sky is incredible and you'll love looking for shooting stars at night.

🚣‍♂️Our home comes with 3 paddleboards and 2 kayaks for your use. We also have several different sizes of life jackets. Our cove is an absolutely beautiful place to explore by paddleboard or kayak. (And by the way, if you haven't tried paddleboarding, it is incredibly fun! You can stand, sit, or kneel. You feel like you are on top of the water!)

😎Our dock is the perfect place to lay in the sun and enjoy the serene beauty or jump in the lake and go for a swim. We keep several noodles and floaties at the house with an electric pump. There is a ladder that makes it easy to get in and out of the lake. There is room to tie up your boat and/or jet skis. The marina is only 5 minutes away (by boat or car)!

🍔There is a large deck in the back of the house overlooking the lake with a large table and 8 chairs. There is also a propane grill for cooking out.

🔥The backyard has a fire pit to roast your hotdogs and marshmallows or you can just enjoy the fire with the gorgeous lake as a backdrop. We try to keep plenty of firewood at the home for our guests.

The home has 3 floors:

Loft Level - King Bed, closet, and bathroom with a large jetted tub. This bedroom is open and has incredibly gorgeous lake views. This bedroom has a desk with incredible views of the lake while you work. The natural light that floods in through the window is perfect for getting work done.

Main Floor - This floor has a large, open spacious kitchen and living room with a wall full of windows to view the lake. The windows are so high that you can even view the stars at night from the inside. The dining table can seat 6 - 8 people. The kitchen has a small, yet cozy electric fireplace. The bedroom on this floor has a King Bed and a flat screen smart TV. There is a full bathroom on the main floor, right across the hall from the bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need to cook delicious meals with plenty of counter space. There is also a laundry room on this floor and a supply of beach towels.

Downstairs - This is the room for family gatherings and fun! It has a large flat screen smart TV. After a long day at the lake, you'll love watching movies on the new leather, reclining couches. There is also a ping pong table in this room. The bedroom on this level has two queen beds, and there is a large full bath on this level as well.

To make vacationing easier with little ones, the home has a pack & play, a high chair, a baby gate, and a booster seat for eating.

Within minutes you can be dining at one of the amazing restaurants in the area. Brookland Eats is a family favorite with fresh fish, hamburgers, BBQ, and awesome desserts. American Hero has great Philly Cheese-Steak and Fries, and Clarksville Station Steak House or Old Country Club Steak House is great for the perfect steak. Smokey Dave's BBQ is a must-stop for some awesome BBQ.

If you decide to leave your lake-side paradise, Mayo Lake Park (5 minutes away) has beautiful walking trails, bands, movies, and playgrounds. Virginia International Raceway (VIR) is only 30 minutes away, as is Orange County Speedway and South Boston Motor Speedway. Roxboro and South Boston also have great antique shops.

If you're looking to just stay one night, message me, and I'll work it out if possible.

The only internet available in the area is DSL. It can be slow at times, but we have always been able to work remotely, video conference, make phone calls, and stream movies. We cannot make any guarantees about the internet speed at the time of your stay.

- "The home looks exactly as pictured. So cute, in a quiet cove. It has a lot of green space, where we played different games and allowed of dogs room to expend some energy. We loved spending our time at the dock fishing, swimming and making use of kayaks and paddle boards. House was stocked with everything you need to get started with your stay. Washer and dryer worked great and made quick work of any laundry. We had an excellent stay! The communication was awesome and checking in was a breeze. We went to Mayo park hiking and to Hyco lake to rent a pontoon, but otherwise spent all our time at the house enjoying our family. From ages 6 to 55 we all really loved our stay. Cottage on Charles is located in Roxboro, just 31 miles from Duke University and 30 miles from American Tobacco Campus. The apartment features free Wifi and free private parking. Cornerstone Cabin is an extraordinary cabin. We used three 100 year old square log cabins to build it. The old cabins were tagged, disassembled, moved to the lake, and reassembled into one house under current building codes, with all the modern comforts of home. The lake house sits on 11 secluded, forested acres with no other houses in sight. It has magnificent craftmanship, and all the wood was either from old dwellings or custom-milled for the house.

Cornerstone Cabin has a tin roof, making the rain's pitter-patter so soothing. Another unique feature is that it has a full 2nd story. Most cabins constructed with old square logs are 1.5 stories with a loft or knee walls upstairs. Cornerstone has lots of windows & 7 ceiling fans throughout the house so you can throw open the windows & enjoy the fresh air & wildlife sounds. For your sleeping comfort, there are hand-made wooden shutters throughout the house to darken the rooms.

Cornerstone's upstairs has 3 spacious sleeping quarters; the sleeping quarters are sequential, i.e. they open one to the other, no hallway. The first is a loft with queen bed and cathedral ceiling with exposed rafters. The middle bedroom has 2 twin beds; the upstairs bath is accessed through the middle bedroom, and it has a full tub with shower. The third bedroom has queen bed and cathedral ceiling. All three offer beautiful windows facing the lake.

Starting from the ground up, there is stacked-stone foundation, chimney, & fireplace; then 3' X 9' floor joists for the 1st floor (exceeds any building codes, so the house is solid as a rock). The downstairs has custom-milled beams & includes bedroom (king), bathroom with shower, stack washer/dryer, fully-equipped kitchen, indoor seating for 10 with dining room table (6) & game table(4), hi-speed internet, & family room with satellite color TV, oversized fireplace, & sturdy antique staircase built in 1820. Opening from both family room and downstairs bedroom is a 10' x 20' aromatic cedar screened porch with ceiling fans and dining table for 6. This is our favorite spot for morning coffee, evening cocktails, and dining.
Cornerstone Cabin is in a forested, slow-moving world of quiet solitude, wildlife, & no other houses, and yet, incredibly, you are only 10-to-15 minutes away from 3 grocery chains, good restaurants, & fun entertainment. The road and driveway leading to the cabin are gravel and probably not suitable for a very low-riding vehicle, like a Corvette, but otherwise should be easy enough.

A few restaurants: 15 minutes to 2 established, locally owned & operated steak houses, Clarksville Station Steak House & Old Country Club Steak House; Italian: 15 minutes to Vesuvios Italian near Walmart or Vesuvios ll Food & Sports Bar downtown; need it quickly: 5 minutes to Mayo Marina (Country) Grill & Store for breakfast, burgers; great, hot or cold subs: 15 minutes to American Hero for philly cheese steak or gyro.

Some entertainment: Out your front door down a gentle slope to swim, sun, watch the sunset, & fish for bass & crappie off your dock in clean, clear, pristine Mayo Lake; bring your fishing/ski boat & moor it safely to our PBD (pontoon boat dock); ski, wakeboard, & tube in one of the most uncrowded lakes you've ever been to; or, rent a canoe or kayak from Mayo Park; 5 minutes to Mayo Park (walking trails; bands, movies, & plays at the Amphitheatre; free boat launch; playground); 15 minutes to Palace Pointe (all under one roof) Family Entertainment (20 bowling lanes, 7 billiards tables, video arcade, rollerskating, 8 movie theatres, & food diner); 30 minutes to South Boston Motor Speedway or to Virginia International Raceway (VIR = Lemans-type pro & amateur sports car & motorcycle road race course). Cozy Log Cabin located on Lake Mayo in Roxboro, North Carolina with easy access to a functional floating dock. Great for fishing, swimming, meditating, or to just relax and enjoy nature. Can be used for a private romantic getaway or family retreat. Our cabin is located on the private side of Mayo Lake with no access to the main lake, which means you can enjoy the lake without worrying about excessive boat or jet ski traffic. If you have a boat, you will have to launch it from Mayo Lake Park (5 miles). Less than 5 miles from the events held at Mayo Lake Park.

If you like fine wine and a great environment to enjoy wine tasting, you can visit Tunnel Creek Winery approximately 5 minutes away. You just might get lucky and stumble upon a live band or DJ playing at the venue.

If you are renting during the Spring, Summer, or Fall, there are numerous events that occur at Mayo Lake Park. Mayo Lake Park offers lake access to boaters, canoeing, kayaking, an ADA accessible fishing pier, three playgrounds, a nine hole disc golf course, and eight picnic shelters. All Mayo Lake Park facilities are convenient to restrooms and are connected by nearly six miles of natural trails.

Our lakefront cabin is the place to come to relax and enjoy nature, but if you crave the nightlife, downtown Durham is approximately 40 minutes away where you can enjoy night clubs, trendy restaurants, Breweries, Durham Bulls baseball, or a concert/live theater at the DPAC. Or, if you want more nightlife adventure, downtown Raleigh is approximately 75 minutes away.

You will have a small house all to yourself and your guests. It will be quiet and clean environment. The main bedroom is spacious and colored yellow adding a calm and cheerful feel to the room. The house is next to a creek where you can feel the ionizing natural air. The house is located 1 hour north of the Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill Research Triangle. This is a perfect place to stay if you want to scout for a new job or have work in Roxboro itself. It is located 2 miles from Piedmont Community College and 4 miles from Person count hospital and public library. It is also a good location from downtown roxboro.

Walking through the front door, you are greeted by an open concept 1st floor complete with a full kitchen, custom-made 12ft long dining table, and floor to ceiling windows looking out over the lake. Living room furnishings include two deep swivel chairs, a love seat, and big comfy couch. The perfect space to look out on the lake on a rainy day. The TV comes equipped with Roku and DirectTV Stream (bring your Netflix/Hulu/Amazon credentials, but don’t forget to sign out!) Coffee table is full of games to play; another great way to make use of that massive dining table! The deck on this floor makes for great mornings with a cup of coffee or nights watching the sunset or do a little star gazing.

This floor has a master-suite with queen sized bed and private bath with double sinks as well as a large walk-in shower. There is an additional room on this floor that has two extra-large twin sized beds with a full bath just across the hallway.

Head upstairs and you’re welcomed once again by incredible views of the lake. This floor has a small workspace in case you need to plug-in during your visit. A king-sized bed fills the loft space, the perfect place for early risers looking to wake up to sunrise off the lake. Across the hallway from the loft you will find another room with an extra-large twin bed which shares with the loft a full bathroom with walk-in shower.

When you make your way back downstairs you will find a closed door in the kitchen which leads you to the lower level of the house. You enter another full-size kitchen on this floor, complete with a 2nd fridge and oven. This floor has the 5th bedroom in the house, complete with TV, Roku and queen-sized mattress. You will also find a full bathroom with tub/shower, as well as a large washer and dryer in the laundry closet next to the bathroom. Not only does this floor have a second kitchen for you, but it also has a second living space with large comfortable sectional, TV with Roku, as well as a shuffleboard table and other games. But that’s not the last of it!

Step outside to the outdoor patio where you’ll find not only plenty of seating and lounge chairs, but an infinity pool, bbq grill and firepit. With how the furniture is laid out you can enjoy both sun and shade out on the patio. With a fenced backyard and beautiful landscaping, you’ve got your own private lakefront oasis.

And don’t forget the very best part, head down to the boat dock and spend some time in the water! We’re provided comfy furniture for those cooler days, a boathouse bar experience complete with TV, floats, along with two kayaks and two paddle boards for you to take out on the lake!

To get into the house you will be given a code to access the through the front door the day prior to your arrival. Should the code not work, there is a lockbox with a key and just give us a call and we will get you access to the lockbox.

All gates to the backyard will be locked upon arrival for safety purposes. Keys will be provided for you to unlock the gates. Please keep the gate on the side of the blue house locked at all times.

We have a shared driveway with our neighbors on both sides.
When you pull into the driveway you will come to a fork, stay left and we will be the middle house (gray with a blue door, #878)

Things to Note
We live on on a well and have a septic system. Please do not flush anything down the toilets but toilet paper.

We have beach towels available for use, so no need to bring your own. All linens are included. We have left for you 1 paper towel roll in each kitchen, 1 toilet paper roll in each bathroom, dish washing soap, as well as dish detergent, washer pods and dryer sheets. Please note that supply is limited and for extended stays you will want to shop accordingly.

Our house is a short-term rental, but we do not live next to short-term rentals. Please be respectful of our neighbors. Keep noise levels down to a minimum and respect the house noise rules. We offer the outdoor speakers because we know how much we like to listen to music while outside, but please do not be blasting the music at any hour of the day. Please do not be playing music outside past 10:00PM.
**Our neighbors allow their dogs to peacefully wander the neighborhood. If they come onto the property please do not feed them or allow them in the house.
**Most neighbors are friendly, respectful, and keep to themselves while enjoying the lake. One neighbor is not as friendly and may attempt to interact with you in a negative manner from their property. We want to make you aware of this and recommend you ignore the neighbor if they make any attempt to interact with you. Should you have any issues please contact us immediately.

- "A bit hard to find, the house number at the end of the drive was laying on the ground. Only complaints: the blinds overlooking the deck fall off the hooks when opening them. The upstairs bathroom door is falling off its hinges and the upstairs bath tub drains VERY slowly. Better have 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway in the deep gravel! We did. The place is clean, quiet, remote and very peaceful. It was cold and rainy while we were there so we didn’t get to enjoy the deck or dock."
