I asked for a late check out due to a business meeting that morning. They allowed me to check out at 1. During my business meeting, it became very obvious that I was not going to make it back to the room in time for my 1pm check out time. I called the front desk and asked if it was at all possible to extend my check out time again. They graciously allowed a 3pm checkout time. I felt absolutely terrible, but I was not able to make it back to the hotel until closer to 330, but I was not charged for any extra time, and the staff was so kind and understanding, despite the fact that they were insanely busy and booked up for the next night.
