This River Retreat home is a waterfront property on the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities metro area. It is quite convenient to the MSP airport (20 minutes), (St. Paul/ Minneapolis- approx. 30 minutes). Take in the sights and sounds of the river right from the soaring, timber frame great room, deck, or outdoor hot tub! Hawks, bald eagles, foxes, turkeys and wildlife of all kinds are common visitors. Watch for barges and boats on the River, or admire the strange 'laser beam' sounds of rubbing ice in the coldest depths of winter.
We have severe allergies and try to keep our home dust and animal free, as well as free of scented cleaning fragrances. Animals are not allowed, as we have severe allergies and asthmatic reactions to them that have put some of us in the hospital despite inhalers, medications and our best efforts. Sorry, this includes 'hypoallergenic' animals. bi-weekly dusting by our cleaning service is included with your stay, and can be scheduled at your convenience.
Our home is a fabulous space for family reunions, sports teams, gatherings of friends and getaways. Enjoy the outdoor hot tub or the backyard fire ring. There is plenty of sleeping space and a loft area for the kids to hang out with TV and roku, in addition to the living area. The kitchen, and dining room are all open to each other making it a great space to hang out with friends or family. All the twin cities is a short drive away, and there is a marina down the road if you want to explore the river.
There is an apartment above the garage that is not included with this rental. The apartment is where we crash occasionally when we are in town visiting family. (our first review from 6 years ago mentions it being a corporate rental - we were finishing up a contract, it has not been a corporate rental since). It has a private entrance in the garage where the only common wall with the home is. There are no shared spaces among the apartment and the home other than the garage. 2 garage parking spots are included with the rental.

Please note we have internet streaming only, no cable, however we do have a YouTube TV subscription to catch the latest game if you'd like. Additionally, there is a crackling gas fireplace ready for you to enjoy and just beyond the great room is the main floor bedroom.

The main floor bedroom features a modern tufted headboard, dual nightstands, lamps, a SmartTV, and a dresser. Please note there is no additional closet in this room however many of the other closets in the home are walk-in closets. All of the bedrooms are made up with: mattress protector, a fitted sheet, flat sheet, quilt, fleece blanket, pillow protectors, pillow cases, four pillows, and on some beds, decorative pillows. Extra bedding can be found in the upstairs linen closet.

The second floor of this home features a luxurious owner's en suite that exudes peace and serenity with it's calming color palette. Enjoy the east facing windows that overlook the backyard. Step into the bathroom through the French doors and you will find dual sinks, a 2 person jetted bathtub, private toilet stall, walk-in shower, and a walk-in closet with ironing board and clothes iron.

There are 3 additional bedrooms that share a common full bathroom which also boasts dual sinks and a full bathtub with shower. Our bathrooms are stocked with premium towels and face towels for your use. We also provide other bathroom amenities like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cotton balls, and makeup remover wipes.

The Restful Bedroom has west facing windows and a commanding black sleigh queen bed. This bedroom features a ceiling fan, walk-in closet, dresser, dual nightstands, and lamps for your enjoyment.

The Cherry Blossom Bedroom has south facing windows and features a charming sleigh bed, ceiling fan, desk/vanity, storage, walk-in closet, and SmartTV.

The Olive Tree Bedroom has east facing windows overlooking the backyard and features a tufted headboard with a plush queen bed, ceiling fan, dual nightstands, lamps, dresser inside the double closet, and a Smart TV.

The Mirrored Bedroom is in the lower level of the home and has a 3/4 bathroom for the guest enjoying this room. This room offers the most privacy being in the basement level, additionally, a double closet, dual nightstands and lamps are available for your use.

The basement, aside from the Mirrored Bedroom and bathroom, is unfinished with a large playroom complete with toys and a flat screen TV that can be used with the Wii system provided and a ping pong table for you to try your hand at. We have an additional queen bed in storage in this area for your comfort and coming soon, a second washer and dryer will be installed.

We utilize the MyQ remote garage door opener system and front door keypad for your security. Please note there are exterior security cameras. As you walk in from the garage, the powder bathroom is on your right, as is the main floor laundry facilities. Please feel free to use the provided detergent.

Beautiful and completely renovated home located on the Mississippi River - the great room is truly spectacular. Great for large groups, entertaining and close to Minneapolis, St Paul, MSP Airport, skiing, marinas. Gain access through keypad at your convenience with many comforts of home. We try to accommodate reasonable requests like air mattresses, etc.

This space was completely renovated with a fresh and clean look. Quartz countertops, stainless appliances (double oven, dishwasher and farmhouse sink) and a great room we all dream about it perfect for a women's retreat or relaxing with family. Views of the Mississippi River are spectacular. Each of the three bathrooms has a bathtub (one with soak tub and the other a jetted corner tub).

Outside we have a Webber grill, comfortable patio furniture, a fire pit and all things that can help you truly enjoy your stay. Two kayaks are available for you to use (life jackets must be worn). Children should not be left unattended and should wear life jackets when playing near the river (we have provided, but please ensure a proper fit based upon weight of your child).

Accommodations for young children can be made as well to include pack-n-play, high chair, monitor, etc. We will do our best to make you feel right at home.

Master has king bed (sleeps 2) , second bedroom has queen bed (sleeps 2), 3rd bedroom has two full/double bunk beds (sleeps 4), 4th bedroom has a queen (sleeps 2), 5th bedroom has four full/double beds (sleeps 8).

When making your reservation request, please be aware that the number of guests you list when booking is the maximum that will be allowed on property. Please make sure to include the number of guests who may just be stopping by even if they are not staying overnight as they are included for fee calculations.
You may have up to 18 guests at the house and if more guests are present than disclosed, your reservation may be cancelled without refund or notice.

Be respectful of our neighbors by being quiet after dark – they live here year-round and their happiness enables us to continue renting this home for groups like yours to enjoy. Should the neighbors have to call me for a noise complaint a $200 damage charge will be taken from your security deposit.

RULES: Please read the following rules closely and do not book unless you're confident your group can honor these.

The rules are designed to ensure that everyone has a positive experience and to preserve this special property so you can come back and enjoy it again and again! The general idea behind the rules is: "Respect our neighbors on the river, no rowdy parties, no noise after 10 pm...this is a quiet area in a national park. There will be serious consequences to ignoring these house rules so book elsewhere if you don't trust your group to follow rules."

Friend groups who are gathering for birthday, bachelor, or bachelorette parties will be accepted on a CASE-BY-CASE basis. I am only able to rent to respectful groups who follow rules. If your group is planning to do a lot of binge drinking and partying with loud music, PLEASE find another location. This area is a family-friendly environment and we want to keep it that way.

A $1,500 security deposit is required for all groups renting this home to enforce 5 house rules:

HOUSE RULES

1) QUIET HOURS: 10 pm to 8 am – Enforced by the Township of Grey Cloud Island ordinance requiring complete quiet on the property starting at 10 pm. This means all outdoor activity and socializing must be brought inside by that time—no exceptions. Our neighbors up and down the river are extremely important to me, and I have a zero-tolerance policy on this rule. After 10 pm, no music or conversation should be audible outside—including to outdoor cameras or the noise-monitoring system on-site. Please avoid any unnecessary outdoor noise. As you appreciate peace and quiet at your own home, please extend the same courtesy to our neighbors so I can continue offering this space to guests like you. Again: 10 pm is the magic hour and everyone in your group must be aware of this time.

Violation of this rule may result in a fine of up to $1,500 deducted from your security deposit. Airbnb’s Community Disturbance Policy also prohibits disruptive gatherings or excessive noise at any time of day.

2) NO SMOKING INDOORS: This includes but is not limited to cigarettes, marijuana and e-cigs/vapes. Smoking must be away from open doors and windows. You must pick up any cigarette butts or other smoking debris when smoking outside.

If I find any evidence of smoking inside, a $1,500 fee will be taken from your security deposit plus the cost to remove the smoke smell.

3) GUEST LIST: The guest list must be provided 2 weeks before your stay and must match your actual guests. Any changes to the guest list must be approved before the guest is allowed on property. Please send first and last names and cell phone numbers in the message thread. Guests exceeding the number you selected when making your reservation are $50 per person per day extra.

To prevent any miscommunication, a "guest" is defined as anyone that sets foot on the property during your stay (only exceptions are Uber/Lyft drivers and delivery people). Day guests and night guests are counted the same for fee purposes. Please understand an open guest list party is NOT ALLOWED and will result in an immediate cancellation of your reservation, and any guests over the amount listed when booking will be charged at $50/guest/day. I have a zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized guests on the property and in the event of a noise complaint, IDs will be checked and anyone left off the guest list can result in immediate cancellation of your reservation.

4) NO PARKING ON THE GRASS: Park only on paved surfaces.

5) POOL & HOT TUB
The hot tub and pool are available from 8 AM to 10 PM. Both the pool and hot tub close at 10 PM. This is according to township ordinance. If any outside noise is audible after 10 PM, we are violating this ordinance.
• All kids must be supervised by an adult when using the pool or hot tub. Kids under 10 years old are not allowed in the hot tub.
• No glass allowed in or near the pool or hot tub. No smoking in the hot tub as debris/ash causes damage to the hot tub components.
• Use at your own risk.

I request a $1,500 security deposit to ensure these all 5 rules are followed. If all 5 rules are followed, the security deposit is released within 72 hours of check-out time. Depending on the severity of the offense, either partial or full security deposit will be withheld. It is YOUR responsibility as the renter to communicate these rules to your guests.

To pay the security deposit, I will make a Money Request through the website and, after your stay, the security deposit is refunded through the website within 72 hours assuming all 5 rules are followed.

I do not enjoy being so strict and requiring this security deposit, but my overarching goal is to ensure a safe, smooth experience for everyone and to take care of this special place so you can return. I greatly appreciate your understanding.

EARLY CHECK-IN: Early check-in/late check-out is available on a case-by-case basis. If I'm able to provide early check-in or late check-out, I charge $100/hour. When you request either option, please tell me exactly the time you are seeking.

Pool is open from July 1 through Labor Day (8 AM - 10 PM). Depending on the weather, we may open it earlier in the season or keep it open later. The pool is not heated. The water can be quite chilly.

Hot tub is open year round (8 AM-10 PM)

PETS
Dogs are allowed at a rate of $150/dog/stay. We have a 2 dog limit and these rules must be followed:

1. No dogs on furniture. If your dog is used to that at home, please bring blankets or covers from home to cover furniture.
2. Kennel your dog when away from the house.
3. Give frequent potty breaks to avoid accidents in the home. If there is an accident inside, please do your best to clean it up and let me know.
4. Must pick up after your dog in the yard
5. Please don’t leave your dog unattended on the deck so that it barks.

You are responsible for any damage to the property caused by your dog. Thank you for understanding.

Cats are NOT allowed.

You'll have the whole place to yourself.

ACCESS:
You can drive to the island. A short bridge connects the mainland to the island.

It's about 6-7 steps that lead upstairs to 3 bedrooms on one level with a fully remodeled bathroom which includes new fixtures.

The kitchen is fully stocked with silverware, cups, mugs, plate ware for up to 8 people, pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, and cooking utensils as well as some bake ware. We also supply simple amenities like salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and cooking oil.

We can't decide which bedroom we love more! The Heron bedroom with its twin scalloped lamps, Foster Sterns pillow top mattress overlooking two large heron paintings, the Modern bedroom with it's arresting abstract painting and large flat screen Smart TV, or the Blue bedroom with it's oriental carpet and desk workstation. You'll have to draw straws on who gets what room!

All 3 bedrooms have queen beds with stylish accents, 4 fluffy pillows, a quilt coverlet along with an extra quilt for anyone who prefers a toasty night sleep, a laundry basket & it's own waste basket. The upstairs bathroom features basic amenities for the weary traveler like hair ties, cotton pads for makeup removal, and Q-tips for your use as well as soft fluffy towels for each guest. We supply a family size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in case you forgot your own.

Another 6-7 steps from the main level lead you to the laundry room on the right where washer, dryer, laundry soap, and fabric softener sheets are available for your use. To the left is the cozy family room with features a 70" Smart TV and sofa sleeper bed. There's a wood burning fireplace and a wood plank dry bar that can double as a work space or board game table. Please enjoy reading any of the selection of books we have available.

The lowest level of this home features a recreation room complete with a pool table, bar rails and wet bar, and the best feature: another 65" Smart ROKU TV.

The home sleeps 8 guests, with 3 queen beds in 3 bedrooms and 1 pull-out queen sofa bed in a spare bedroom attached to the laundry room. I unfortunately cannot allow extra day guests as this is the rule of the city of Newport. Besides, this is not a party house or a place to get rowdy…it’s a home designed for family and friends to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company in a cozy, relaxed natural setting. Just listed for the first time in March of this year, this is your opportunity to be one of the first to enjoy a truly unique experience. Your secluded retreat in the woods awaits…

Street parking is NOT allowed. The garage holds 2 cars and the driveway holds 2 cars, so 4 cars total. Please always park first 2 cars inside the garage, because tree branches do sometimes fall on driveway so this would be a great preventative measure. The driveway is long, curvy, gravel and has sloped edges, so please do not try to back down the driveway to avoid any issues.

The Space:

The home has everything you need, including a kitchen stocked with pots/pans, olive oil, salt/pepper, cooking utensils and cutlery/bowls/plates/glasses for 16.

Crockpot, blender, toaster, rice cooker, baking sheets, muffin pans, lighter, drip coffee maker, french press and coffee (Folgers. Rand or similar) are also available.

All beds are freshly made with backup linens, fresh towels and washcloths located in each bedroom closet or the linen closets. Feel free to make use of the laundry machines during your stay, as detergent and dryer sheets are provided.

Gas grill, grilling tools, and propane provided along with unlimited logs for the indoor fireplace and outdoor firepit.

Blazing fast internet through Comcast and a mesh router system. The Sonos system connects to the Wifi providing high-quality music quality throughout the house.

There are 2 indoor fireplaces for your use with unlimited kiln dried firewood, but please be sure to read the House Manual at the home with instructions of how to use.

You are renting the entire property. After you reserve the property, you will be provided the location of the house. There are keypads with a code for entry (provided the morning of your check-in). I can offer early check-in or late check-out for $75/hour, but please schedule this in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Please note that there are 3 exterior Nest cameras at each entrance facing the outside and NOT inside the house in any way. Inviting more people to the house that are not listed may result in immediate cancellation of the booking without refund.

HOUSE RULES:

(1) QUIET HOURS: Quiet Hours begin at 10pm in accordance with the St. Paul Noise Ordinance. From 10pm to 7AM - no outdoor socializing. My neighbors are VERY IMPORTANT to me and I have a zero tolerance policy on this rule. All outdoor socializing, must conclude by 10pm. No exceptions to this rule. A noise-monitoring system is present at the house.

As neighbors are close by and expect to enjoy their home in peace and quiet, if your group becomes so loud or disruptive that the neighbors feel that they need to call me or the police about it during or after your stay, there will be a damage claim of up to $1,000 to be deducted from your security deposit. Additionally, your group may be asked to leave at whatever time this occurs and there would be no refund of what you have paid to complete your stay. As you expect peace and quiet at your home when you are there, please extend the same courtesy to my neighbors so that I can continue to offer this great home to others such as yourselves.

(2) NO SMOKING in the house and NO SMOKING in screened in porch (smoking on the back patio is allowed). If I find evidence of this, a $1000 fee will be taken from your security deposit.

(3) GUEST LIST must be provided 2 weeks before your stay and must match your actual guests. Send first and last names in the message thread. A guest is anyone who will be on the property at any time during your stay, even if they are just stopping by. Each person is considered a guest for fee calculation purposes. Thanks for understanding. Please understand an open guest list party is NOT ALLOWED may result in immediate cancellation of your reservation and any guests over the amount listed when booking will be charged at $50/guest/night through your security deposit.

There is a limit of 8 guests on the property at any given time (a guest is any person on the property even if not staying overnight and just stopping by for a short time). For your reservation, the reservation fee includes 4 guests and each additional person, even if just stopping by and not staying overnight, is an additional charge which is calculated when you finalize your reservation. The additional charge is $50 per guest / per day. Thank you for your understanding.

SECURITY DEPOSIT
To ensure a comfortable stay for all guests and maintain harmonious relations with our neighbors, I kindly request a $1,000 security deposit. This deposit serves to uphold the 3 essential house rules, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience for everyone involved.
If I find any evidence that smoking took place in the house, the fee is $1,000. Additionally, if you have extra guests that were not included in your reservation, you will be charged for each guest accordingly. Lastly, if I learn of these or other situations during your stay, your reservation is subject to immediate cancellation with no refund.

The security deposit will be held from your account 5 days before your stay as a pending charge. Rest assured, it will be released within 48 hours following your check-out, provided that the house rules are observed. I have yet to keep someone’s deposit as I have found guests to be more than respectful of my neighbors but due to past experiences, this is a necessary step in the process of maintaining positive neighborly relationships and I greatly appreciate your understanding.

While I prefer not to impose such measures, past experiences have highlighted the importance of these steps in maintaining the quality of our accommodations and fostering goodwill with our neighbors. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.

There is a keypad on the main door for entry. You will be given the code the morning of check-in. You will have the entire place to yourself. If you need something, just message through the app and I'm usually only 15 minutes away and can help with anything you need.

Adjacent to the property is Spring Lake Park Reserve where guests can walk or bike for miles on the Schar’s Bluff Trail or Archery Trail; a state-of-the art archery trail. PARKING: This home has a dirt driveway, with space for at least four cars to park.

~Guest access~
Guests will have access to the entire 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home, the main level wraparound porch, upper level balcony, the laundry room, and the surrounding front and back yards.

Guests are are to be mindful of the "No Trespassing" and "Do Not Enter" signs around the property. This includes no access to the detached garage or the casita (where the caregiver resides).

-Early check-in or late check-out may be available for $25 per hour, for up to 3 hours before check-in or after check-out.

No pets, smoking/vaping, parties or hunting allowed. Quiet hours are from 10PM-7AM per the City of Cottage Grove. Exterior security cameras are in use - your privacy is our priority, and the cameras are there solely to ensure a safe and comfortable stay.
