The drive to the cabin was the best drive up to the mountains, seriously no crazy ups and downs or side to side roads to get there. The cabin is located in a beautiful private neighborhood. My family was hoping for a snowy Easter and it's just what we got and we were well prepared thanks to Carla. This cabin had the perfect slopes for sledding. Inside the cabin there is these windows in the living room with the BEST open view to mountains, it'll take your breath away! This cabin had the cutest rooms and bathrooms perfectly decorated and filled with all the necessities. Welcome to mountain paradise. Mile High and surrounded by the Los Padres National Forest. Four seasons of great outdoor activities including hiking, fishing (20 minutes away), scenic drives, hundreds of miles of off-road and forest service roads, birdwatching and star gazing and our place has one of the rare level yards large enough for full scale play. We have just made the property handicapped accessible with a lift and sleeping quarters on the main floor. We also added a seasonal theater space outdoors and a rec room/bunk house. 4 private bedrooms, 4 nice bathrooms, massive decks with views and privacy, bbq, large yard with volleyball/badminton net, separate yard for pets. Huge open floor plan downstairs ideal for entertaining. 75 inch 4K smart TV, fireplace, fully equipped chef's kitchen and a dining table that seats 12. Pets okay and a great place for pets. Great for kids. Fantastic weather, crystal air (smog doesn't come our way!) and 15 degrees cooler than the surrounding valleys. 6 miles from freeway on the very edge of "civilization." This 3500 sq ft home is ideal for reunions, snowy getaways and, being in Lake of the Woods, it's also convenient to pizza, deli, stores and restaurants.

The space

Everything about our place is well cared for. Carpeting, tile, floors, decks, interior and exterior paint and a redone kitchen and privacy deck. The kitchen has everything for a chef to create it all. The 2000 sq foot downstairs is, essentially, one giant open floor plan with the kitchen as the hub. It's amazing for get-togethers for adults, kids, etc. 75" 4K TV is amazing. We have Starlink Wifi and you can hook up any devices.The views from any window are of forest and mountains. Step out the door past our two giant sequoia trees and you are one block from trails that will take you to Canada or Mexico. Great hikes - we love the two mile loop into the forest - for you and your pets in the extreme southern arm of the Los Padres National Forest. Yes, it's a pet friendly house. You could park a dozen vehicles (we have!) Oh, we installed a new furnace and no need for aircon. If it gets hot during the day the downstairs is always cool and as soon as the sun sets, just open the windows and crank up the swamp cooler as nature cools it all down fast. And one thing that Lake of the Woods has that is awesome is you can walk to Mike's Pizza or Ray's Mountain View market. Mike's is a full on pizza and Italian food restaurant and delivers. Amazing pizza. Ray has a full deli and grill for sandwiches and burgers, great wine and beer selection, full liquor and not pricey.

Other things to note

The mountain communities are a destination for folks from the cities of Bakersfield and Los Angeles year round. In spring we have amazing wild flowers and hiking. In summer we are much cooler than the valleys and the Falls are simply spectacular with the change in colors. Winters are when it gets really popular if there is snow!

- "Just what we were looking for as a last minute getaway. A short drive from the city but it feels like worlds away. There are very few stores close by but they had everything we needed. A 45 min drive over to Reyes Creek for the day was the cherry on top of the cake. Communication was excellent during a mix up with the booking process and continued to be great while at the property. Would visit again!" - "This cabin is adorable and super cozy. It is on the rustic side but had all the amenities to be comfortable and anything else I needed was promptly addressed. I especially enjoyed the peacefulness of having some tea on the front deck and the electric wood stove to warm up in the morning. It is a perfect get away from city life for those who don’t want to be too far from civilization. At night I could hear the crickets and coyotes in the distance which was really cool. Victoria and her husband were very friendly and thoughtful making sure I had everything. Unfortunately I had to cut my trip short because the altitude was getting to me which was an unexpected bummer. I would have loved to stay the duration I planned for. I left a few things at the cabin by mistake which Victoria offered to mail to me which was really thoughtful. I think this cabin would be especially enjoyable in the cooler months to cozy up with a movie and a fire."

- "The area was beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice. The house was clean and spacious. The kitchen was large and well equipped, the house had heated flooring throughout and a fireplace which complimented the winter ambiance, the house offered board games, ping-pong and pool table; the outdoor areas were fun to explore and offered good lighting; the gated property felt safe and secure. The host made herself available throughout our stay and answered our questions. However, the hidden event fee was an unwelcomed surprise. Overall it was a good stay; we were able to accomodate all of our guests and enjoy our event. and pool table for entertainment, "

- "Nice. Clean. Quiet. AC is awesome. Could use a comfortable chair instead of the two small plastic ones. Also a bench for setting bags on would be great. But I’m nitpicking. Overall it was great. Be prepared in this little town. There’s not much going on and only a few food places. Grocery store was good. Tara’s Tavern was fun and hospitable. There is a great taco truck everyday too. Things open later and close early. " - "This was a fantastic space for the two of us, with an ample deck. It was a bit chilly, so we didn't really spend much time out on the patio, and we were only here for a short stay while visiting friends in Glendale. The only thing to be aware of with this property is the windows: they have regular plastic blinds. Great for privacy, but they're not adequate for blocking out sunlight in the mornings. So if you're looking to sleep in at all, your sleep might be disrupted by the morning light peeking in through the blinds.Otherwise, the kitchenette was more than adequate for our needs, and the bathroom and shower were great. My wife and I also appreciated the firmer mattress; most hotel beds are too plush for us. We'll definitely be back the next time we're looking to stay in the area!"

- "We had a great stay here for a weekend getaway! Only thing I’d have to say is the neighbors were having an argument that was loud enough to hear from across the street that made it hard to relax outside. Tho this is totally out of the host’s control and probably not a reoccurring event, they are great host and it’s a cozy place to stay. There was no a/c that I was aware of so it does get a bit toasty during the summer months but they do provide a box fan which helped keep us more comfortable at night. Overall great price compared to much other rentals nearby for those looking to get a good bang for your buck. "

Santa Barbara's restaurants, shops, and beaches are less than a two-hour drive away for additional exploration.

Boasting all of the comforts of home, the interior of your stay displays an open-concept floor plan, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable furnishings. As you prepare a home-cooked meal, flip on the large TV and catch up on your favorite show. When your adventure garb needs to be refreshed, utilize the private washer/dryer. Your daily routines will be practiced with ease amidst the bathroom's large walk-in shower and deep sink.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.
