- "We truly enjoyed our stay in this home overlooking the water. Beautiful views, spacious home, comfy furniture." - "A lovely spot by Colgate and next to a reservoir! Saw loons and other wildlife. Had some issues with the cleanliness of the place upon arrival and had to go get some supplies that were not available. Upon entering the driveway we were concerned we had the wrong house as the grounds were unkempt. We tried to enjoy ourselves but again were disappointed when the appliances they said were available were not (iron , hair dryer , tv) . Then the TV didn’t work, there was no option for music , and the house had no AC (this was mentioned in description, we just missed it) . Unique experience for sure as this must be an active household that gets rented out, because every cabinet , drawer and closet was filled with personal items. Views were outstanding and space was perfect for a group of nine . So as we said , lots of potential"

The Helfant Apartment is located 1.5 miles from the Colgate Inn and less than 1 mile from the Seven Oaks Golf Course. The apartment is situated above the garage on the left side of the main house. It is a completely private space with a full bathroom and a complete kitchen, including a microwave oven, a stove with convection oven and a mini-refrigerator. The bedroom has an air conditioning unit that cools the entire place in the spring and summer and electric baseboard to heat the main areas. The beautiful and historic 1801 Armstrong House is located just two miles from Hamilton, NY and Colgate University. Fully renovated in 2009, the house sleeps 10 comfortably. NOTE: our rates are a function of the actual number of overnight guests. You must inform us in advance of how many guests are in your group, and you can add guests, but you need to input the number of guests into the VRBO web site reservation section, and it will recalculate the rates. The Colgate athletic department assistant equipment manager occupies the studio apartment on the ground floor in the back of the house; his presence keeps the house more secure when it is vacant. He is Very Quiet and respects all guests' privacy; please respect his.

The 1801 Armstrong House is dog friendly (we had a golden retriever), and many of our guests like to bring theirs. We have a dog feeding station in the laundry room, and a dog tub and hose if they get really dirty or into something adventurous. There's lots of room for them to have fun outside. We have related dog supplies, if necessary. (but no cats allowed)
You may want to see if any of your Colgate student's teammates/friends are having their parents coming into town for the weekend, and if they'd want to share the place with you. Or, you may want to entertain some other parents for a pre- or post-game/event gathering.
Of course, if you want it to a quiet, private get away, you'll have the place to yourselves. It's very peaceful and relaxing, and just two miles to campus, a nice bike ride.
The house and grounds are spacious and has hosted some group get togethers and team dinners and gatherings. - "The 1801 Armstrong house gave our family the rare chance to revisit the pastoral Madison county farm life that we grew up with in the 1960s. The elevated back deck afforded a view of property which included fields along the Chenango river and canal path, deer, wild turkeys, ground hogs and songbirds. Clean, spacious rooms were comfy... large enough for a big group, and private enough for all to have a good night's rest. The decor reflected the lived history of the Behler family, and we thank them for graciously sharing their historic home. It was our best VRBO stay ever!"

Peaceful, great views, and close to everything we needed - 15 min from Colgate and Hamilton NY with grocery stores and everything you might need. Also close to antique centers - Bouckville and Madison + Barbeque and live music at Ray Bros. The house is best for a couple or small family as the second bedroom has twin bunk beds. And the owners have stocked the house with board games, stuff for tubing and if you run out of reading material, plenty of books to chose from for relaxing reading on the deck. I think we hit amazingly perfect August weather - even cool one day, but the ceiling fans keep things at a good temperature on warmer days. I am looking forward to a return visit."

- "This was such a beautiful place! I really wanted to write a review because I was nervous before I came...but this place was so amazing for my family. We had no issues. The hosts were super sweet. They let us in early when we arrived and provided us with everything we could possibly need. They left us a gift basket with wine and goodies and a bathroom basket with extras in case we forgot anything. A previous review talked about cleanliness, and I didn’t see any issues at all. Sometimes I think people are reviewing a five-star resort and not a camp on a lake. The bathrooms, kitchen, and bedrooms were pristine. Were there some cobwebs on the deck in the mornings, sure...but growing up on a lake I kind of expected that. We had such a fun time on both decks. The upper deck gets shade, which was great when we needed a break from the sun but still wanted to be outside. The lower deck is packed with kayaks and paddleboards and lounge chairs. The lake is so calm, I felt totally safe letting them kayak around the property. We saw eagles and heron and tons of geese with their babies. The kids also enjoyed the bunk bedroom. There were toys and books for kids and tons of games throughout the house that we played. It was steep going down to the lake, but there is a handrail, so my kids had no problem. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better lake experience. A big thanks to our hosts!"

- "Great stay. The house was as described." - "Stayed here for a family wedding in Hamilton and absolutely loved Bo’s hideaway! Nestled right on a peaceful pond which is more like a small lake, the setting was serene and incredibly relaxing. The house was very clean and well-appointed with all the amenities we needed. The beds were especially comfortable. I enjoyed the infrared sauna after my workouts. There is a paddle boat and kayaks, and although we didn’t get a chance for fishing, it looks like the kind of place you can catch a lot of them. Very close to Colgate University, which has a beautiful campus that we enjoyed exploring. I highly recommend Ray Brother’s BBQ, just down the road. Seriously some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. "
