Our cottage is a comfy little place right on Lake Carey in Tunkhannock, PA**. The cottage has a screened in mud-room, kitchen, full bathroom, living room, 2 bedrooms, a 'lake room' with breakfast nook and a deck overlooking the lake. Each bedroom has a full size bed. The living room has a pull-out couch that is also full sized and if needed, there is space in the living room for an inflatable mattress. Overall the cottage can sleep 6 people very comfortably, 8 in a pinch.

Outdoors we have a large fire pit and a floating dock. We have 3 kayaks (2 single, 1 tandem) and a row boat available for use (all on premises only), as well as some fishing poles and tackle available to be used on premises (PA permit required. Information can be provided.)

Our cottage is not fancy, but it is comfortable and homey, and we love it that way. Located at the top of one of the Endless Mountains, it is very secluded, but only a 10 minute drive from all your creature comforts including grocery stores, a movie theater, several fantastic restaurants and even a Super Walmart. You wouldn't guess it when you are at the cottage though, it is so peaceful. A wonderful place to unplug and enjoy the sunshine. We did install Wi-Fi by popular request, just in case you don't want to completely unplug.

Speaking of creature comforts and unplugging, not to worry. There is plenty to do and see if kicking back with a good book isn't your thing:

- Fishing. It is huge in the area as the lake is part of the Susquehanna River Valley and is stocked at the beginning of the season with trout, but also has a ton of carp, bass (small and large mouth), pickerel, cat fish, sunnies, maybe more. At dusk, the carp jumping for bugs is pretty cool to watch. Fishing permits are required and are available online. I can provide you a link to the PA website for more information.

- Kayaking/Boating. We have two individual kayaks and one tandem kayak. Our side of the lake is smaller and shallow, which makes it nice for beginners. If you are a bit more advanced, you can paddle on over to the big side of the lake, and take on the much stronger current. It is not permitted to use the kayaks anywhere other than Lake Carey. If you have your own and want a true challenge, you can take it down the mountain and take on an a more serious challenge . . . the Susquehanna herself. For those who may want to bring out more than one or two people, or may not be comfy in a kayak, we also have a nice, big metal row boat that seats 4.

- Golf. There are two PGA rated golf courses at the bottom of the mountain. One is about 10 minutes away (Shadowbrook) and the other 15 minutes away (Stone Hedge). There are also 2 miniature golf courses and a driving range within minutes of the house as well. Greens fees fluctuate, both courses have websites I can direct you to.

- Hiking. The woods surrounding our cottage are private property but there are a number of trails in the area. Many local state parks offer a great hiking experience, but watch out for the local wildlife!!

- Hunting. Speaking of local wildlife. Ask me for the links to lots of information and maps of public access hunting grounds. FYI, the cottage is in Wyoming County.

- Skydiving. Yup that's right. There is a group that is based out of the local small airport (Skyhaven) that does sky-diving every weekend the weather allows. I can see them floating through the sky almost anytime I hit the grocery store on Saturday mornings. Website can be provided upon request.

- Food & Beverage. There are many great local restaurants, wineries and breweries in the area. Some of these restaurants are truly spectacular, if "cooking in" isn't your thing.

This cottage has been in our family for over 35 years. It is our home away from home, we love being there. Unfortunately careers, lack of time and life in general prevent us from getting there as often as we would like. The next best thing would be sharing our little bit of paradise with others.

The Space:
The lodge is an authentic log cabin built in the 1970s, situated on 5.3 acres with 600’ of creek frontage. Easy access to the creek makes launching the provided kayaks or fishing a breeze!

Ski resorts near The Lodge At Tunkhannock Creek: Montage mountain 12.9 miles, Jack Frost 23.7 miles, Elk Mountain 29.3 miles.

Miller mountain in Tunkhannock is the highest mountain in this section of the Endless Mountains. It is state forrest and open to the public. Good hiking on that mountain. And really good views. The 2,216-foot peak is believed to be the last remaining undeveloped peak of its size in Pennsylvania that HAD been privately owned. Its topographical imprint on the landscape is regionally unique and visible for a remarkable distance.

Please note: The awning on the rear deck is removed in mid fall and throughout the winter months. And yes the Hot tub is open all year.

Inside:
You will find a comfortable space with air conditioning, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. We have two smart TV’s (upstairs living room and downstairs TV room) where you can log into your streaming services. We also have bluetooth speakers you can easily connect to inside and out. WiFi provided so you can stay connected. The downstairs TV room has a few retro gaming consoles (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega), Over 1,200 preloaded games. Also board games. We also have a washer and dryer for guests to use if needed (laundry detergent included!)

Bedroom 1 has one queen bed.

Bedroom 2 has 4 twin beds - bunk beds, and a single twin bed with a pull-out trundle bed.

(We also have two queen beds in the pull-out sofas!)

In the kitchen we provide pots and pans, utensils, wine glasses, toaster, Ninja coffee maker, waffle iron, blender and more. Coffee grounds, sugar and creamer provided.

For those traveling with kids - we provide a pack -n- play, booster chair for the table, 5 point harness High Chair, a baby bathtub, kids dinnerware and utensils, sippy cups and some games and toys. Children’s floaties also provided. As parents ourselves, we also made sure to add extra safety precautions to the home, such as tamper-proof outlets, plexiglass around stair rails so a child can’t fit through; a gate on the deck and a gate at the top of the interior steps. With both gates closed an infant can roam the entire upper floor including the exterior rear deck without needing to have constant supervision. Of course, nothing can be 100% child-proof so please make sure to keep an eye on any children around the home and property! Especially near the water.

Outside:
The cabin is perched on a hill with great views overlooking the creek and mountain in the background. It’s not difficult to get down to the creek. Multiple paths have been created, the creek front has been cleared and two ramps from the bank down to the water have been created for your easy access. Don’t forget to bring your fishing gear! (PA requires a fishing license. You can buy it online)

We provide kayaks, life jackets and some tubes.

We have an upper deck, partially covered with an awning, with rocking chairs, a picnic table. The lower deck is also covered, with another picnic table, A gas grill and 5-person hot tub that overlooks the creek.

A few steps down you will find a fire pit that overlooks the water. We provide unlimited firewood for guests.

Guest Access:
Guests have full access to the cabin and the 5.3 acres that it sits on. Including all of the 600' of creek frontage.

The Neighborhood:
Creek Front. Rural setting, but minutes from great food and shopping options. Pizza, sub shops, Walmart, CVS, Dunkin' Donuts, liquor/beverage store, Aldi, Anytime Fitness, winery, McDonald's, Burger King, Chinese food, Mexican restaurant all nearby. 18 hole golf course, 18 hole disc golf course. Cornhole and ax-throwing places nearby. Beautiful public park/playground nearby.

The Main Street in Tunkhannock is full of boutiques and outdoor dining options.

There is 1 single home that shares the driveway entrance with the main cabin. The home itself is approx 100' away from your cabin and privacy is not compromised. There are no other homes/neighbors within site of the cabin.

Getting Around:
Automobile. The cabin is on a well maintained Paved road. Our driveway is paved. The driveway is plowed, salted and professionally managed in the winter, but please understand that you're in the mountains of Northeast PA. Please have reasonable expectations if you travel here with a 2 wheel drive vehicle during inclement weather.

Other Things to Note:
By booking you understand that you enter the creek at your own risk. For your convenience and safety, we provide life jackets for the listed occupancy of the home. The creek is very calm and gentle, BUT, it is a body of water. Please watch your children.

We enjoy all 4 seasons here in Northeast PA. Please set your expectations for outdoor amenities accordingly.

There are a few cameras on the exterior of the property only. They do NOT record audio. They look at the driveways and give us a Birds Eye view of the creek. This is how we make sure that the property is maintained properly (snow conditions, etc). The cameras are visible for you to see their angles and are not hidden. There are no angles that would jeopardize your privacy. No camera on hot tub.

This is a rustic cabin. There are animal mounts, pelts, furs etc. There is great educational value in these items. Let yourself and your children learn from them. We have clearly photographed them in the listing. If these items upset you, please do not book this cabin and then give us a poor review for it. We know the specific type of guest that will LOVE these items and enjoy their authenticity. We hope that's you ! :)

Welcome to our unique mid-century home on the beautiful Susquehanna River in Wyoming County. This stylish retreat offers four seasons of enjoyment, situated on 2.25 acres with over 100' of riverfront access. Unlike your typical Pocono or Endless Mountain cabin, this modern home caters to those with more contemporary tastes. No air conditioning and no cell service within the house but random cell service within 3 blocks of property making it a relaxing digital detox (wifi and landline phone provided). One full bathroom and one outdoor shower.

As you step inside, you'll immediately notice the distinguishing features that set this home apart. The flat roof, broad eaves, and stucco exterior make a statement among its neighbors. The open-plan living and dining area boasts expansive windows, providing breathtaking views of the lawn and the river beyond. The professionally decorated space combines furniture from the construction period (1951) to the mid-70s, along with modern pieces that harmonize with the clean lines of the house. A handcrafted cherry mantle serves as the focal point of the main seating area, while the teak dining table comfortably accommodates 6 guests.

The cozy kitchen, located off the entrance and living room, features newer appliances while retaining the charm of the original birch cabinets and linoleum counters. There's also a breakfast table that seats two.

The home offers two generous bedrooms off the foyer, each with a queen-size bed. These sleeping quarters showcase a mix of period and new furniture that complements the clean lines of the rooms. The period tile bath with a marble floor features a unique glass block wall in the tub/shower, an innovative design for a 1950s rural house.

The lower level provides a family room with additional sleeping space on a full futon. This space exudes an industrial modern cave vibe with its painted concrete floor, exposed block, and floor joists. The lower level also includes a game table, comfortable seating for relaxation or quiet work, a workout bench with Olympic plates, and a washer and dryer in the unfinished portion of the basement.

At the back of the house, you'll find a covered bluestone terrace with a table for six and a gas grill. While the main attraction is the use and view of the river, the large, well-tended yard is perfect for games and sports.

From spring to fall, the Susquehanna River offers a range of activities, including swimming in the warm water, kayaking, and canoeing. The house provides two kayaks, a 15' canoe, and life jackets for your use, but please note that river activities are at your own risk and Pennsylvania requires the use of life jackets in all watercraft. Fishing enthusiasts will also enjoy the abundant opportunities (a PA fishing license is required, and no fishing equipment is provided). There's a boat launch a few blocks away for those with personal watercraft, and official boat launches can be found at 3-4 mile intervals along the river. Property details: The house is located in a rural area with no public utilities. The water is serviced by a drilled well. When there is excessive water use or groups larger than 5 or 6 the well may need 15 to 20 minutes to regenerate. There is limited cell service in the area depending on your carrier; however, just connect your phone to wifi calling and it will work perfectly in and around the home.

Some of the best fishing in Pennsylvania and the Northeast is in the Susquehanna River. Musky, walleye, Bass and catfish are a few of many fish caught from the shores and around the river. Small river boats can be launched from the property; however, there is a boat launch a few hundred feet from the property.

- "Impressed and over joyed still doesn’t do it justice! When we got there they had the lights on and fire lit for us. A welcome basket full of goodies and info about the area. The owners take care in what they do and love their home and hometown. You can feel and see it. We went for my husbands birthday to relax and celebrate him. We really enjoyed Karen’s thrift store. Everyone was very nice. We can’t wait to go back In the warmer months with the kids and really get a chance to explore. The views from the house overlooking the river and mountains were beautiful! We were visiting the area for a funeral, and Douglas our host, was able to accommodate us last minute. He left us a very sweet condolence card which was very thoughtful. We are planning on coming back in warmer weather so we can get to enjoy the river and fishing and the outdoors. - "Bulb out in B/R glad I had a flashlight. The outlet in the kitchen was dead, no coffee moved the coffee to a different room after blowing a fuse. all lights went out, there was no one to call, I used the 800 number on the pamphlet and got a Cheery woman who said we are closed now leave a message, I Did and am still waiting for a response." - "My employees were not allowed to use the " private kitchen " in the listing. I was sent pictures of what appeared to be a dirt dusty haunted basement with a creepy old dress on a mannequin in the corner. This place was awful Do not stay. If I could give it negative stars I would."

Our 3 bd/ 1 bath home is perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway for couples, friends, or families, whether you want to serve a 3-course meal at our antique dining room table or relax at the picnic table while grilling in our outdoor fireplace.

- "Our stay was perfect! Everything was clean. Everything was comfortable. It was amazing and just what we needed for our stay. The kitchen was well-stocked with dinnerware, and pots and pans. The appliances worked flawlessly. The Wi-Fi was fast. And the beds were heavenly. :D The only thing I would suggest is maybe some curtains for the bedroom windows and the front door. While there are no neighbors and the road isn't busy, it can still be a little eery without that simple piece of fabric blocking you from the black nothingness outside. ;) Also. We saw a pileated woodpecker and that just made my day! Overall. It was amazing, and if we are ever in need of a place in the area again, we will certainly look this one up first!"

- "What you see is what you get. If you’re like me, a 40yo mom looking for a night away from the family but feeling guilty about spending any money on yourself, this place fits the bill. It was quiet, safe, and relatively clean.The photos are accurate, or it might be a touch better in person. Unfortunately, I was not aware before arrival that two of the three AC units were not working – the one in the living room was also leaking badly onto the carpet, so unfortunately, the living room was unusable during my stay. There was a free-standing portable AC left in the bedroom, but that room was still hovering around 80 at the hottest part of the day. Luckily, the AC in the bathroom worked well, so I was able to keep that on to help in the bedroom, where I spent most of my time.The silo suite is very dated, but it has a ton of potential! It is a nice spot on a beautiful property in a scenic town. I get the impression they are working on updating it and look forward to seeing the place restored to it’s full potential. With a little TLC, this place will be very nice! And as it stands right now, it is still good for a quiet night away. "
