The upside is that we are typically accessible for questions and add an extra layer of safety :). However, everything is completely private and no part of your space is shared.

This luxury one-level home was designed with simplicity, solitude, and peacefulness in mind. The Poet's House features stone floors, mahogany doors, modern appliances, a combination of antiques and mid-century modern decor, as well as original art pieces.

The primary bedroom has a king bed, sitting area and sun porch overlooking the woods. The en suite master bathroom has a walk-in shower, a soaking tub, as well as a walk-in closet.

The second bedroom at the front of the house has a queen bed and two large windows overlooking the front courtyard. The third bedroom has a double bed and windows that overlook the fruit orchard. The second full bathroom has a walk-in shower.

The open living room has comfortable seating and a modern soapstone wood stove for chilly mornings or romantic evenings. The open dining room can seat six at the long dining table (which is handmade from black walnut trees on the property!), and there is also seating for four at the kitchen island. Each bedroom has two bathrobes to enhance your visit's spa-like feel and cut down on what you need to pack. After each guest, we strip each bed completely and replace everything - mattress cover, sheets, blankets and coverlet are all freshly cleaned.

The kitchen is stocked with everything you need - Keurig coffee maker, pots/pans, dishes and utensils, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. Custom, modern cabinets and drawers outfit the rest of the kitchen area.

A beautiful deck off the side of the house offers an opportunity to watch birds and wildlife, sit and enjoy your morning cup of coffee, or enjoy outdoor dining overlooking the woods. At the back of the house is a second deck (aka, "the rocking porch") where you can sit with another view of the woods and a sweet little log cabin that sits behind the house. (We're still working on a plan for the log cabin.) The third small deck off the back of the house has two lounge chairs and a brick patio with gas grill. The back yard is fenced in.

Naturally, the Poet's House has an office/library that is perfect for inspiring your creative side, working on your latest novel, or just tapping away on your computer. Guests are welcome to enjoy the library's books and games during their stay.

Guests have access to one side of a two-car garage. Other cars may park outside in the driveway. Guests are free to walk the 100-acre property, which includes two ponds on the lower half of the property which are suitable for fishing (BYO poles), to use the large fire pit in the middle of the upper pasture, or to visit with our three goats, chickens and duck. When we have a surplus, we're happy to share farm fresh chicken eggs with our guests - just let us know if you'd like some.

This house is wheelchair accessible - guests can enter the house through the garage without ever having to step up or down. Showers are accessible and both toilets have grab bars. The sinks and kitchen counters, however, are not wheelchair accessible.

We do allow pets, but please message the host before booking with the type of pets and their size, as well as to review the rules for pets staying in our rentals. Please do not request to book if you cannot keep your pets off the furniture. There is a $50 per pet cleaning fee.

The Tiny House has tall ceilings - no ducking or crawling into lofts required! Two great local wineries, and a whiskey distillery, are within biking distance of the Tiny House. This Tiny House is suitable for up to 2 adults and a child. We can provide a blowup mattress for additional bedding - please let us know if needed.

Clean, well-behaved pets permitted inside. Pets may also be kept in the small, dog run fenced area adjacent to the Tiny House. (If you've stayed with us before, there is no longer a large fenced area off the barn.) Please message the Host with pet information prior to or with your booking to receive a copy of our pet rules. Please do not request to book if you cannot keep your pets off the furniture. There is a $50 per pet cleaning fee.
Outside, there is a small propane grill and outdoor dining in the tobacco barn. It’s private and rustically romantic.

There are two other houses on the property, but they are a good distance away. Guests are free to walk the property, fish in the pond (BYO fishing poles), use the large fire pit in the middle of the upper pasture, or visit with our goats, chickens and duck. (The ponds on the property are not suitable for swimming.)

We will consider extended stays beyond 30 days, but you should book in 30-day increments.

The fence was a little broken in places but not enough that my dogs could get out (even if they tried). The tub in the master bedroom was very nice! Overall the house was comfortable and clean" - "We needed a place to stay close to a wedding venue. It was a great location for that. Neighborhood is nice. Home was clean upon arrival. The house worked well for our group as far as sleeping, bathing & seating in living room area. Beds were comfortable & bath towels/cloths were plenty. Backyard is quite large with a very small patio. There is nothing to do in the yard & no outdoor chairs to sit in. We did not use yard much as there was not much to do. A large section of the fence on the back of the property was knocked down & the section of the entrance gate was off, leaning against the house. Kitchen was lacking in silverware for our group of 9. There were only 5 forks. This property states it can accommodate 12, but there was not enough plates or glasses/cups to even accommodate our group. We brought paper plates which we needed to replenish during our 4 night stay. There were no kitchen towels or potholders. There was no dish drainer in sink. There was only the one paper towel roll on the sink, we had to buy another. No foil or plastic wrap. There were plenty of bath towels, but no towel rods in the bathrooms to hang once used. We had to use the rods in the closets to hang towels. The bedrooms were sparse as far as having someplace to set things. Only one nightstand in the bedrooms. The bonus room has a small desk, mirror and a small dresser. Overall, the home was okay, there are some needed minor repairs & additions that would help make this be a great property."

Huge master with queen bed, one bedroom with double bed, one bedroom with king bed (can be converted to 2 singles upon request). Fourth bedroom is upstairs with double bed. Please use ONLY when more than 6 guests (separate heat/air control upstairs). Dining room and office. FOUR NIGHT MINIMUM unless owner makes exception.

The location is perfect—a short drive from both Wake Forest and downtown Winston-Salem, convenient to grocery stores, drugstores, and yet in a quiet neighborhood that was a respite from the frenetic pace of graduation weekend. The house was lovely and spacious—high ceilings, open floor plan with a large well-equipped kitchen, a dining room, a HUGE master bedroom and bathroom, three other nice sized bedrooms, including one upstairs. It was a perfect place for our family to gather as they came in from different parts of the country for a special—and rare—weekend together. A bonus was the beautifully landscaped patio with a wrought iron table and chairs— perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee! The owner could not have been more gracious and accommodating and responsive. I only wish we had discovered this house earlier in my daughter’s time at Wake Forest!"

Our 1930’s cottage and vintage shop sits adjacent to our private residence, but offers privacy as it stands alone with its own private entrance, carport, and parking. Enjoy some the beautiful surrounding trees, fresh coffee on the bistro table/chairs, a fire in the adjacent fire pit, or let your little ones play in our fenced-in yard/swing set. Our home is set in a beautiful wooded area, on a private driveway, but is less than a ten minute drive from downtown Winston Salem or Wake Forest University. We’re also a two minute drive from popular Muddy Creek Parkway (perfect for an afternoon stroll). A window AC unit is available for use upon request (there is currently no heat source other than a plug in space heater), and cold water is accessed for use in the half bath (but there is currently no shower or tub). This cottage doubles as a local vintage shop and all items are available for purchase through our Venmo account. Come relax, and soak in all WS/NC has to offer!

The house was more than what we were looking for, everything for cooking was there, everything was clean, and the security system helped us feel safer. The host was great when it took me a little too long to shut off the alarm the first time. The ramps into the main living spaces made me feel like if someone had mobility issues this home would work well. Our dogs loved the fenced backyard. And if we hadn’t been spending so much time at our relatives, we’d have spent more time in the yard."

- "This was hands down our absolute favorite vrbo where we have stayed. Absolutely stunning home set in a secluded, wooded setting. The home is a mix of modern accommodations paired with a rustic 1800s cabin. There is a large great room with a modern kitchen with every amenity needed. The addition, built around the cabin, is brand new. The furnishings and artwork are stunning. There is a large deck off the living area which looks out on several acres of wooded property. It is a perfect place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. The lower level has a foosball table, seating area, bathroom, and washer and dryer. One of the features that makes this property so unique is the attention to detail in the architecture and furnishings. The walls on the lower level are reclaimed metal roofing, the steps are reclaimed wood, and the bathrooms all have stone features. The most unique element is the cabin. There is a large fireplace in the room with a cozy seating area and artwork/furnishings tied to the R.J. Reynolds era. In the front of the home is a large firepit where we made s'mores. Firewood was provided. In addition to the firepit and back deck, there is a large side porch . You will want for nothing at this home. The location is a 15 min drive to Wake Forest and was the perfect location to spend a weekend with our Demon Deacon. Can't express how much we enjoyed staying at this home. Be prepared to never want to leave."

NO Parties and NO Events:
No parties or events are permitted. Please respect the neighbors and keep noise levels to a minimum. Noise ordnance in Winston Salem is 11pm-8am.
Maximum Occupancy:
The maximum number of guests allowed is 8. Unauthorized guests may result in additional charges or eviction. Visitors are fine up to an extent, any more that 10 and that would be considered a party and you may be asked to leave at your own expense.
Noise Level:
Please keep noise to a minimum, especially between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM, to avoid disturbing neighbors.
Trash and Recycling:
Dispose of trash and recycling in the provided bins. Please follow local recycling guidelines and ensure bins are placed out for pickup on the designated day.
Trash Pick up is every Thursday and Recycle is every other Monday. Please put trash at curb if you are at property or leaving property on a Thursday, we would greatly appreciate it.
Parking:
Park only in designated areas. There should be at least 3 parking spots available in the driveway and up to 2 on the street, at own risk. Please be mindful of neighbors if you have visitors.
Heating/Cooling:
Please try not to adjust the thermostat while at the property or when you leave or turn off or adjust heating/cooling when not in use.
Kitchen Use:
Clean up after using the kitchen. Wash dishes, and do not leave food out. Please use provided utensils and appliances responsibly. When leaving the property please leave any dirty dishes in the dishwasher running as you depart.
Security and Safety:
Lock doors and windows when leaving the property. Report any damages or malfunctions immediately.
Damage and Breakages:
Guests are responsible for any damage or breakages incurred during their stay. Please report any issues to the host promptly.
Personal Items:
The host is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Secure your belongings when not in the property.
Appliances and Equipment:
Follow instructions for using appliances and equipment. Turn off all appliances when not in use.
Compliance with Local Laws:
Guests must comply with all local laws and regulations. Any illegal activities will result in immediate termination of the stay and potential legal consequences at guests own expense.

Before your departure please strip the beds that were used, linens that were used in general and leave in the hallway or laundry room on the floor.
