Mountainside Lodge is located in the heart of historic downtown Harper's Ferry, and in the middle of Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. This one-of-a-kind vacation rental is located in a 2-1/2 story brick federal-period building built in the 1830's. The house shares the building with a family-style restaurant (The Rabbit Hole) and a very popular gift and jewelry shop, The Vintage Lady. The house was originally 2 townhouses, and the center walls were removed in the 1970s to create a large open space on the 1st floor. While the house's exterior painting scheme reflects this original configuration and looks like 2 separate units, the vacation rental spans both spaces (see photo). The building was used during the civil war by both Confederate and Union Armies, primarily as an infirmary/hospital, and is a stop on the Harpers Ferry Ghost Tour.

The first floor of the house features a large open living room/dining room, a full modern kitchen, 1/2 bath, and a large porch with fantastic mountain and river views and views of Harpers Ferry gap. The inside space features hard-wood floors, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam ceiling (many of the beams are original hand-hewn), and large windows looking onto the mountains and the Potomac River. There is a Roku TV with cable, DVD player, VCR, games and toys, and a 10-seat dining table on the 1st floor. A highchair is available upon request. In addition to modern amenities, the house is decorated in fantastic period antiques.

The second floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a laundry room w/ full-sized washer and dryer, and offers views of the Potomac River. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a comfortable full-size futon (comfortable for 1 adult or 2 children). The second bedroom has a Queen bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a twin/full bunk bed (twin on top; full on bottom). The configuration is ideal for two families (4 adults and up to 5 kids), 2-3 couples, or 6-7 friends! All three bedrooms have TVs and DVD players and comfy sheets, mattresses and pillows.

The building sits atop a steep hill, and there are 65 stairs leading down to the 2 parking spaces reserved for the vacation rental in the rear of the building. The front-door to the house is at street-level, so door-to-door drop-off of luggage is possible.

Also there are great hiking trails you can just walk to. It was so much fun staying here, I would not consider staying anywhere else if I’m ever in the area again. Highly recommend."

This place did not disappoint.The 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathrooms as well as two living rooms and three decks gave us all plenty of room to spread out. The home was clean and well appointed and Mike was very responsive to our requests. We chose this house for its proximity to Civil War battlefields and history and the River. The kids had a great time splashing around in the Potomac, and the older ones got a good taste of the history of the area. - "My entire family, including my siblings with families and my parents, just spent a week at this wonderful home and property. The pool was used continuousltly throughout the week by all, and kids loved the diving board. Several kayaks and canoes are available for use, which we launched at the rivers edge several times. Bring water shoes, as the river edge does have some debris and vegetation. Several matches of Pickle Ball were played, and I was unfortunately the loser! The basement with theater and games was perfect for the one rainy day we had mid-week, providing plenty of entertainment for the kids ranging from 6-19. Our family group of 17 also rented the Guest House, which I would also recommend. It has a beautiful screen porch with dining table and sitting area. Our unanimous end of week feeling was, best vacation ever! Thank you Charles and Amber for a great stay!"

The home is equipped like a quality time share with full kitchen privileges with all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware and spices you could want to enjoy the best meals possible. We have a full coffee station with coffee maker and Keurig to enjoy your favorite beverages. A complete updated KitchenAid appliances refrig/freezer to use as you desire as well as a double oven, dishwasher, microwave and 5 burner gas stove. With over 200s/f of amazing granite allows you a large space to eat and entertain for at least 12 people at the same time.
Diningroom: Offers dining for that special occasion which offers a full set of china for up to 12 guest. The dining room seat up to 8 but the over flow guest will have an even more enjoyable time with the island areas that can seat 12 more. (If you use the formal dining dishes wash after using)

Laundry: A new updated washer and dryer to use as you need with iron & ironing board to use as you need.

Bedrooms: include fresh sheets, and ample towels, extra pillows, blankets as needed, all rooms have queen or king size beds except Library has pullout queen sofa bed, and a few rooms have additional twin size beds.

- "My family and I just spent a very long weekend at this property. We found there was plenty of space. The kitchen was well appointed—everything we wanted was there. There were enough sofas for each of us to have two to ourselves! The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed watching the deer frolic about. We are located directly across from the train tracks and the Potomac River. Great for train enthusiasts and kids. Be prepared to see and hear the excitement when trains go by. Very sensitive sleepers may want to take this into consideration! The house sits on a scenic byway that has, just a short distance up the road, beautiful river views and a breathtaking top of mountain vista (Maryland Heights) if you’re a pretty serious hiker. The road trails along the river with the lesser seen opening of The Harpers Ferry train tunnel. This is also the very course John Brown traveled on his way to the armory raid. Knoxville was once a bustling town but suffered hardship when the train station moved to close by Brunswick. Some of the hardship is still evident in the area. The whole Harpers Ferry area is one of the fastest growing areas with Knoxville in particular burgeoning. The area has loads to offer with hiking, biking, tubing, rafting and kayaking or just taking a scenic walk on the tow path. There are vineyards and breweries close by and a few different venues with live music with great views of the river.

It was bigger then a thought the outdoor patio was very nice and we used the grill and fire pit on the back of the property it is very close to harpers ferry and the brewery. Host was very sweet and responsive to any questions I had the beds were very comfy and we enjoyed hanging out in the back game/den area the neighbor came over and introduced himself he was very pleasant and recommended things to do in the area we will be back thank you"

This historic 200-year-old building is located in the center of downtown Brunswick. You’re within walking distance of restaurants, a coffee shop, a brewery, cigar shop, shopping, and the C&O Canal.

History and adventure surround you, including historic Harper’s Ferry right up the road (or bike path if you prefer). You’re only minutes off of the Appalachian Trail and many other beautiful hikes. Brunswick also hosts its own Mountain bike trail which is right up the road from the apartment.

The apartment comes equipped with a fully functional kitchenette which includes a two-burner hot plate, toaster oven, coffee pot, and microwave. You also have a small refrigerator.

The single murphy bed is located under the TV in the living area for your convenience.

You are right in the heart of Brunswick. We have Smoketown Brewing, Beans in the Belfry, Potomac Grill, Kings Pizza, the C&O towpath, the Brunswick Museum and the town Antique Store within a 2 minute walk of the apartment.
Please do not wear cleats of any kind in the apartment. NO SMOKING inside the unit, there is comfortable seating and a covered porch (please appropriately dispose of cigarette buds, do not leave them outside). No bikes in the unit, there is dry and secure bike storage available on site. Please help us save on costs and conserve utilities when not in use. We also ask you ensure the dishes are done and notify us when you leave.

- "My husband and I were biking the C&O towpath and spent a night in this beautiful rental. We were able to store our bikes on sight. The kitchen and bathroom were so nicely updated. Our newly renovated 1 bedroom apartment is located in the heart of Loudoun County's Wine Region. It is situated on a beautiful country road with it's own private entrance. It has a full kitchen, WiFi, TV and washer/dryer. A perfect getaway!

Our Catoctin Valley home is central to many wonderful activities. In our own "backyard" you can visit Flying Ace Farm (Beer and Spirits) www.flyingacefarm.com and Creeks Edge Winery www.creeksedgewinery.com which are both about a 3 minute drive away. Also within a short drive you can be biking on the C&O Canal, hiking on the Appalachian trail or canoeing/kayaking on the Potomac River. Civil War sites including Harper's Ferry, WV and Antietam Battlefield are also nearby.

The historic towns of Leesburg, VA and Frederick, MD are only a 20 minute ride. There you will find an abundance of great restaurants and antique shops as well as the Leesburg Premium Outlet Mall. Loudoun and Frederick wineries, breweries and distilleries are all around us. You can enjoy a day visiting some of the beautiful tasting rooms and possibly end your evening at one of the local award winning restaurants.
The MARC train station at Point of Rock's Maryland is a 5 minute drive from us and provides weekday commuter transportation to and from Washington, DC. Five minutes to dog park.

It’s on the lower level of the house (it’s a lot more spacious than it looks in the pictures), but we hardly knew anyone was above us. There were lawn chairs, a hammock, a picnic table, and a charcoal grill outside, and on many evenings we enjoyed sitting out there, sipping wine and watching/listening to nature. Bliss! We were less than a 10-minute drive from several great restaurants, but far enough away from town to feel like it was true relaxing country stay. Highly recommend for anyone. For us, it was ideal as a quiet, working getaway!"

This beautiful loft apartment is right in the center of downtown Brunswick! The apartment offers a queen bed on the main floor and two twin beds in the loft. There is a small section sofa that can be used for an additional sleeping space. The apartment offers a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave and refrigerator along with a washer and dryer. There is wifi and a Smart TV, which is on a swivel mount so you can watch your favorite streaming services from the couch or the bed.

We are within 2-3 miles of the AT and many other beautiful hikes, not to mention the C&O Towpath is right out your front door.

Many other historic civil war battlefields and too many wineries to count are within a short drive. You will fall in love with Brunswick and the local area!

If you don`t want to drive while on vacation and still want to see Harper`s Ferry, it is a short bike ride. It is only 6 miles up the towpath.
This is a second-floor apartment, so we ask that you please respect quiet hours between the hours of 10pm and 7am. Please remove shoes before going into the loft and do not wear cleats of any kind in the apartment. NO SMOKING inside the unit, there is comfortable seating and a covered porch (please appropriately dispose of cigarette buds, do not leave them outside). No bikes in the unit, there is dry and secure bike storage available on site. Please help us save on costs and conserve utilities when not in use. We also ask you ensure the dishes are done and notify us when you leave.

Hemmingway Retreat was updated in June 2020 from remodeled modern but country kitchen with appliances to updated baths being remodeled for you. Lots of space with for privacy and views throughout every room. All 4 sofas make into queen sofa beds that offer extra sleeping which could for additional beds as needed. New furniture and comfort mattresses will offer rewarding relaxing rest. Lots of common space offers plenty of possibilities in the house for family get togethers to corporate or yoga retreats with up to 16 guest. Outside on the scenic 10 acres offers even more with lots of new changes have been made including the updated pool with plenty of patio and lots of seating of all types for relaxing. With 2 wood burning firepits you can have those perfect marshmallow nights that will allow you to have memories to last a life time. We also offer a full size tennis court which also set up for basket ball and close by is a children's swing/play area. Inside the house we are always adding more from board games and toys to arcade games like Pacman, Star Wars, pinball, out door games from volley ball, horseshoes, croquet, basket balls, tennis racquets and balls and much more. If that's not enough we have a profession cotton candy and popcorn machine with all the start up supplies for you. We also have a 15' inflatable movie screen with a HD projector. Yes we have Direct TV with 4 TVs set up and over 240 channels. We have Satellite internet with Hughes which is good but may be slow with several guest on at once. We have other TVs with DVD players or Roku for use. The house in the center of the 10 acres with lots of privacy and scenic sunsets that will allow you so many possibilities. Its in Wine Country and lots of breweries all with in 5-10 miles.

Peaceful relaxing farms and wine country. You will have views of horses and farms from the house. Located in wine Country there are over 45 wineries and breweries with in 10 miles. Some of our favorites are Sunset Hills, Hillsborough Winery, Breaux, and 8 Chains winery but there are so many wonderful places. Also lots of local restaurants with in a 15-20 min drive including Pennys Diner, Andy Italian, Monqs barbeque, Magnolias and much more. The C & O trail, train station, tubing, white water rafting, zip lining and many other adventures are in scenic places are 15-25 mins away in Brunswick Md, Harpers Ferry WV.

Its just about 4 miles from Waterford or Lovettsville. About 15 mins to Leesburg with lots of shopping and a Premium Outlet Mall

House rules

1. In some cases we can allow a late check in or check out (providing we are not having an immediate check in) Check in is 4P and check out is 11AM (if you stay beyond 11A you will be charged $400 per hour unless you confirm a later checkout).
2. Outside music must and noise outside must be kept a low reasonable volume from 11A till 10P.

3. All loud outside activity must end at 11p till 7A including the pool and inside.

4. Quiet conversation is allowed at the hot tub(as we have neighbors and County rules for short term rentals that we have to respect quiet hours)

5. ALL music outside must be off at 10PM and till 11AM everyday. Music must be at low reasonable volume as there is a County ordinances and we cannot have loud. Music.

6. No parties or additional Guest allowed other than the number listed. Maximum of 16 people allowed on property (without prior written permission) and any number more than this will result in everyone being dismissed from property.

7. We have a map of our property on the side of the refrigerator.

8. Please stay in the 10 acre area including fenced areas and property lines and please do not feed the neighbor's horse

9. Parents with children/elderly/handicap guest beware of the stairs, patio pool/hot tub.

10. There is a playground for children (parents are recommended to be attentive at all times. Note we are in a beautiful wild area and although we are not aware of any we have heard there are rare times with black bears and coyotes in the area . Use common sense and be on guard with small children.
11. With gas only use pre-made fire logs (fireplaces must Oct. 15-April 15 and you must be present till the fire is out.

12. Fire extinguisher is provided and should be within 20 feet of any fire. Only you can prevent forest fires Only YOU!

13. NO use of candles inside. Candles should only be used if there is loss of power and birthday cake but must be attended at all times (flashlights are provided) which can happen about 1-2 times a year during big storms. Proper candles are permitted for bugs outside only(citronella candles) and must be attended at all times and must be keep in the glass containers provided.

14. Full use of kitchen The common area kitchen is available for full use including the spice pantry (if we have private cabinets they should be marked).

15. We have 1 private cabinet marked in the corner. and 1 separate refrig in the laundry. If you need something help yourself but if you a lot of it help to replace it

16. No Fireworks of any type are allowed on the property or candle use except birthday cake candles

17. No Hunting or firing of any type of weapon is allowed

18 The fire pit can be used. Stay with all fires and NEVER leave unattended Fires as we are in a wooded area, all grilling must be maintained at all times and must be properly extinguished when done. The grill must be left at the far end of the deck where it is located (or 50 feet from the house if you use the charcoal A fire extinguisher is provided and should be within 20 feet of any fire. Only you can prevent forest fires Only YOU!

19. Smoking Outside Okay but not inside at all is allowed and cigarettes should be disposed of in ash tray provided. Always properly put out smoking materials. Smoking allowed in the outside on the porch or deck (please clean up afterwards). Any smoking of any type in the house will forfeit the $1000 deposit plus cleaning cost.

20. Guest Only limit to 16 the number of guest you listed on the reservation is permitted on the property. Any additional guest must be approved and there is a fee for this with approval. Failure to do so will result in losing your privilege to stay.

21. Parking is for guest only and guest parking no large buses or RVs allowed without prior permission. Up to 12 cars allowed over this you must get approval.

A. Pets must ne kept on the first floor only.(there not allowed on the top floor) B. You must pick up any pet droppings with in 100yds of the house
C. you can not leave your pet alone if you go out you must crate your pet
D. Pets cannot be left on furniture or beds or deposit is forfeited,. We insure guest of a pet free allergy house
E. Any pets with out permission the premises forfeits the $1000 deposit plus damages because of cleaning and guest being allergic to cats and dogs.

POOL RULES-Hot Tub-Outside rules

1 A. The pool is check when you arrive for safe use. It you are staying for a week we have a check on by the 4th day. It has constant chlorine tablets which keep it safe but you can request extra service for an additional fee.
The pool is open from 7A-11P. It is up to you to check your hot tub or pool when using. We provide chlorine tablets and shock if needed and if you are not sure please ask. We offer full service for an additional feel $125 per check

2. No loud music or noise allowed outside.(Alexa volume 9 is okay for example)

3. Music at reasonable volume allowed from 11A till 10P

4. Always swim with 2 or more at all times.
Never leave anyone under 18 in the pool area without adult supervision.

5. Parents must be responsible at all times with being present with children at the pool and limit the number of inflatables as it can be dangerous with children and has been one of the number 1 ways for drowning. There is no glass allowed in the pool gated area at any time.

6. No glass or bottles are allowed in the pool fenced areas.

7. No diving except on the diving board and no flips, No running or No jumping in the pool.

8. No Water balloons inside the pool or pool gated area (they will clog the pool filter system)

9. Pool Toys are OKAY but limit the number to a few for safety reasons with children and remove after each use so that the pumps and skimmers dont get clogged 10. Food is allowed in the pool patios but not in the Pool

11. Low volume Music is allowed outside from 11am-10P outside and no DJS or loud speakers are allowed at all. After 10P the music has to be turned off (inside for the most part as loud as you want and DJS inside are okay)

12. Hot tub area is easy to operate and make sure the cover is on when not being used (it will take sometimes up to 4 hours to achieve the temp you want before getting in as it is set at 80 but we recommend it for use at 98.

This is a tiny home located in a safe, quiet residential neighborhood 1 MILE from C&O towpath/MARC train; close proximity to downtown Frederick, Leesburg, Brunswick, Harper’s Ferry, etc. The arrangement is an ideal crash pad for somebody with minimalist tendencies or folks traveling along the C&O towpath. It is custom-built by the homeowner and has full electric hookups with WiFi. No shortage of love has been given to make this a lovely and comfortable little gem!

Detached sink and shower are available through warmer months (March-October). Porta John is on site and is fully serviced each week.

Functional wood stove and brand new mini split provide heat and AC for your comfort. Well insulated and cozy. Has a loft, great ventilation and gives off a pleasant pine aroma!

A nicely landscaped and spacious yard offers privacy with use of grill, solostove fire pit and plenty of firewood. Off-street parking is available with police cruiser (when off-duty) sharing space for added security.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the private driveway (separate from the host’s home main driveway), entire 2nd floor studio suite, and outdoor hangout and fire pit space. Hosts avoid use of the garage space below the suite with aim to maintain guests’ privacy during their stay. Host’s home is completely separate from the guesthouse, sitting approximately 100 yards to the back right of it.

Hosts are always very happy to assist with parking, transporting luggage, and assisting with travel planning recommendations or anything else needed, if available.

Other Details to Note

Two friendly dogs live on the owners fenced property next door. They are mostly well-behaved but might get excited and say hi when they see you come and go. Their two cats may come say hi too!

Neighborhood sits on a mountain and has all gravel roads with some tight turns so please drive slow. Terrain of property is pretty rough and there are steps that lead up to the suite. Driveway is steep and somewhat difficult to maneuver at the driveway entrance so AWD is recommended but not essential. The driveway is all yours though, so parking at the bottom is perfectly fine!

Severe mountain weather in a wooded neighborhood can cause for power outages. Electricity and internet cannot be guaranteed if there is an outage.

Mandatory cleaning once per week. If staying over 6 nights, host will contact you to arrange cleaning time on 7th day.
