- "Excellent on all levels! " - "Our entire experience was memorable and great! We were treated great by everyone. " - "Our family stayed at the resort along with another family with a tween and teens. We enjoyed the indoor saltwater pool as well as the archery lesson. The complimentary shuttle was very convenient. We took advantage of the service for dinner at the Goodstone Inn, about a 10 minute drive away. The breakfast buffet was also very nice. The only reason I gave a 4 was that the wait for the Gold Cup was long and it would’ve been nice to have another dinner choice besides Harriman’s. "

Lovely Valentine’s dinner with wine pairings. We will definitely come back!" - "We rented this small cottage for a short family getaway. The cottage is charming, has the basics for making your own meals, and offers the perfect layout for a vacation home. We are Red Fox regulars at this point but this was our first stay in the cottage. - "Excellent " - "Beautiful facilities. The Dutch Cottage, where we stayed in the Delphinium Suite, was extremely comfortable and well appointed. We attended a special event which was very well done. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend - we can’t wait to go back!" - "The meal was sophisticated and delicious yet complicated to order, not presented in a way that you fully understood what you were about to receive.. For example, I ordered Foie Gras and duck brest. Both were sophisticated and well done but at the same time, not as good as I have had at other restaurants. Yet similarly priced. However, I might well return to this hotel again and believe that I would enjoy it more because it takes a while to understand how to operate within the property. it is a beautiful venue. And everyone is nice. It is a few miles from the heart of the very sophiticated shopping area and that it's a disadvantage."

Located just one mile from Middleburg, you’ll find this stunning two-bedroom, one-level house with an open floor plan perfect whether you’re in town for a wedding, a honeymoon, a weekend getaway, or just private accommodations in the country.
Middleburg is in Orange County Hunt Territory and is a horse lover’s paradise, with foxhunting, polo, driving, showing, racing, and eventing all here. Ask about horse stalls and turn out if interested. Our road is popular for walking dogs, afternoon runs and an occasional horse in harness pulling a cart or trail riders.
The area is also of interest to wine connoisseurs, with a number of vineyards nearby that are open for tastings and tours.
Or, you can explore the village of Middleburg, just a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk away. We are also close to Upperville, Marshall, and The Plains, which have their own unique shops and restaurants.
Whatever you choose to do, you’ll return to your private oasis after a busy day. Gather on the front flagstone porch in the cool of the pine and cedar trees, or watch the sun set as you grill on the new back deck with a view of the stable and surrounding pastures. Slowly unwind as you take in the feeling of a Virginia afternoon fading into evening.
When you enter the house, you’ll be greeted by the open, light-filled living room and dining area.
To the left of the living and dining areas, you’ll find an up to date, fully equipped kitchen with lots of counter space, where you can prep special cuts from one of several local butchers or concoct something delicious with local produce found at the nearby farmers markets.
There are two bedrooms. One King size bed can be broken apart into two XL twin beds if needed.. The second bedroom is set up with a pair of antique cannonball twin beds made up with cozy toile bedding.
There is a very large closet in the master bedroom that that has a window and can be set up with a crib, if desired.
A large and well-appointed full bathroom with large vanity and storage and walk in shower is off the master bedroom. There is another half bath down the hall.
We hope you’ll join us in Middleburg for some of your favorite country pursuits!
Added Amenity:
There is a completely separate lower level apartment. Access is separate and car parking is separate and not visible from upstairs. It was once occupied by a senior writer for the Chronicle of the Horse.
This apartment has been remodeled and is available as an add on for this property or as a separate unit. It is has its own living space with small kitchen, large and newly remodeled bathroom with walk in glass shower, and vanity with lots of counter space. The bedroom has a queen bed, walk in closet, washer and dryer and a large desk for a work space.
The parking is tucked away behind a great deal of landscaping and separate also from the upper level. The HVAC units are separate and there is heavy duty insulation between the floors.
If you have questions about this, be sure to ask.
The reviews will let you know that every guest feels completely secluded and private and in love with their own little oasis.
We keep a mowed path around the 3 acre property that makes for a nice little walk with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Parsons Road is another wonderful shaded walk, jog or bike ride.
- "Beautiful home. We attended an event at a nearby resort that kept us pretty busy so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the property as much as we had liked. However, the property was as described. Thanks for a great experience." - "This house was perfect for me and two friends to get together for a relaxing weekend." - "We loved everything about this beautiful home! The Hunt Box is located on our family farm where we raise Christmas trees, herbs and flowers, right in the heart of Virginia’s Hunt Country. In 2002 we built this house based on our studies of the architecture of Colonial Williamsburg. We gave it a tidewater story-and-a-half appearance with standing seam metal roof, clapboard siding, stone and stucco foundation, cozy front porch and second floor dormer windows. The interior is highlighted by the stone fireplace and rough beam mantel, large light-filled windows that overlook barns, woods and pastures. Most unique is the wide plank flooring of oak and chestnut which originated from a hundred year old barn in Sperryville, VA, which we had dismantled and made into flooring for the cottage. The stone for the fireplace was unearthed here on the farm. The configuration of bedrooms is: the top floor (2nd story) has a large master bedroom with king bed, dressing table, dresser and sitting area, plus flat screen TV and walk-in closet, as well as a smaller bedroom with an antique iron and brass double bed and corner sitting area; there is a shared double vanity bathroom on this level. The first floor has an entry area leading to the formal 'great room' with the dining area. There is a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a separate mudroom/laundry room. The third bedroom is on this level, with a walk-in closet, full bath and flat screen TV. This serves as a sitting room/den during the day and uses a queen pull-out sofa for overnight. This room leads to a lovely covered stone porch with pastoral and sunset views from the old-fashioned porch swing. We are conveniently located 6 miles from Middleburg, 38 miles West of DC, 35 miles East of the Shenandoah Valley, on a quiet country lane in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This Williamsburg reproduction guest cottage is decorated as a traditional English Hunt Box, with equine art and memorabilia, lovely antiques, oriental carpets on wide-plank oak and chestnut floors, a stone fireplace and high-end bed linens. Enjoy the outdoors from two patios and a covered porch, with views of mountains and fields. Relax in the comfort of a fully-equipped modern house with a touch of our English heritage.
Our surroundings provide the opportunity to witness the traditional fox hunt, watch farm-related chores and animals, walk along quiet country roads, hike to Goose Creek, enjoy our extensive flowering trees and perennials, or simply relax on the porch swing while you watch the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests can enjoy seeing our miniature donkeys romp around their pasture. Mother Nature provides the opportunity to experience: the flights of red-shouldered hawks, pileated woodpeckers and the occasional great blue heron; our perennial pair of Canada Geese walking through the horse field; deer grazing in our fields and the nightly sounds of owls and spring peepers.
Our farm is located one hour west of Washington, D.C. and 40 minutes west of Dulles International Airport. We are in a rural area with farms 300 to 1500 acres nearby. Fine dining is available in every direction from Middleburg to Leesburg, Warrenton, Upperville and of course the D.C. area. Recreational activities exist all around with Vineyards and Wineries, Museums, Battlefields, hiking on local trails or the Appalachian Trail, horseback riding, tubing on the Shenandoah River at historic Harpers Ferry, WV. Loudoun and Fauquier Counties have the largest concentration of wineries in the state, providing the opportunity to spend full days touring and tasting a great variety of Virginia wines.
The cottage would be an excellent home base while visiting Washington, D.C. or for the business person doing an extended stay in the DC Metro area or the Dulles Corridor and wanting space for their family to visit on weekends. A great weekend escape for residents of the DC area, we welcome weekend foxhunters, couples on retreat, families seeking country pleasures, cyclists, writers seeking solitude or anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the mystique of Middleburg and the hunt country of Virginia. Those involved in fox hunting will enjoy our proximity to all of the local hunt meets; the Middleburg Hunt and The Snickersville Hunt pass through adjoining farms. We welcome riders in the numerous horse shows in our area, from the Hunter/Jumpers to Steeplechasers. Garden lovers and those following the spring garden tours will love our proximity to the Virginia State Arboretum at Blandy, Oatlands Plantation, Morven Park, Long Branch, and numerous other historical homes and gardens.

- "We had an absolutely wonderful and peaceful stay at Yellowwood Cottage. The location is perfect, just a short drive from the town of Middleburg, but tucked away on a gorgeous rural road, perfect for walks or bike rides. The house is beautiful inside, with comfortable beds and furniture, a well stocked kitchen with quality dishes and bowls, etc, and a lovely deck overlooking the large yard where you can enjoy watching the sweet wildlife. Communication was easy, it was pristinely clean upon arrival, and the yard and trash were kept very tidy. We only used two of the bedrooms, but it is set up nicely with the four bedrooms being separated well, and all lovely. It was just perfect for our needs, and among the best VRBOs we have rented. Even though this house abuts a rather busy road, it also sits right next to expansive vineyards and a winery! Also, across the street is a country road that winds through miles of horse farms -- perfect for a leisurely and restorative bike ride or walk. As beautiful as this studio is, the reason for visiting this area is to be outside! The farm is located within Loudoun County, a destination for wine, beer and food enthusiasts. Minutes from award winning wineries (Pam's all-time favourite bubbly, Greenhill Winery's Blanc de Blanc, can be found just a few minutes drive from the farm).
Staying closer to this home away from home is also an option, with over 13 acres of property, including an awe-inspiring 2 acre market garden where Pam and her team grow beautiful, organic, seasonal vegetables. You can find more information about Gathering Springs Farm on social media as well as their website.
There are also many animals moving around the farm, both domestic and wild! The farm has chickens and sheep year-round, as well as pigs and turkeys seasonally. The farm offers a map with self-guided tour options to show yourself around and see what's growing in Northern Virginia at the time of your stay.
Enjoy the views from the window in the studio (which is located up 1 flight of stairs), you may see deer, turkeys and the occasional fox, hopefully no where near Pam's chickens...
Let your hosts Pam and Rob make your trip even more special, the farm has fresh eggs for sale as well as in-season vegetables.
