- "Excellent on all levels! " - "Our entire experience was memorable and great! We were treated great by everyone. " - "Our family stayed at the resort along with another family with a tween and teens. We enjoyed the indoor saltwater pool as well as the archery lesson. The complimentary shuttle was very convenient. We took advantage of the service for dinner at the Goodstone Inn, about a 10 minute drive away. The breakfast buffet was also very nice. The only reason I gave a 4 was that the wait for the Gold Cup was long and it would’ve been nice to have another dinner choice besides Harriman’s. "

The Hunt Box is located on our family farm where we raise Christmas trees, herbs and flowers, right in the heart of Virginia’s Hunt Country. In 2002 we built this house based on our studies of the architecture of Colonial Williamsburg. We gave it a tidewater story-and-a-half appearance with standing seam metal roof, clapboard siding, stone and stucco foundation, cozy front porch and second floor dormer windows. The interior is highlighted by the stone fireplace and rough beam mantel, large light-filled windows that overlook barns, woods and pastures. Most unique is the wide plank flooring of oak and chestnut which originated from a hundred year old barn in Sperryville, VA, which we had dismantled and made into flooring for the cottage. The stone for the fireplace was unearthed here on the farm. The configuration of bedrooms is: the top floor (2nd story) has a large master bedroom with king bed, dressing table, dresser and sitting area, plus flat screen TV and walk-in closet, as well as a smaller bedroom with an antique iron and brass double bed and corner sitting area; there is a shared double vanity bathroom on this level. The first floor has an entry area leading to the formal 'great room' with the dining area. There is a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a separate mudroom/laundry room. The third bedroom is on this level, with a walk-in closet, full bath and flat screen TV. This serves as a sitting room/den during the day and uses a queen pull-out sofa for overnight. This room leads to a lovely covered stone porch with pastoral and sunset views from the old-fashioned porch swing. We are conveniently located 6 miles from Middleburg, 38 miles West of DC, 35 miles East of the Shenandoah Valley, on a quiet country lane in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This Williamsburg reproduction guest cottage is decorated as a traditional English Hunt Box, with equine art and memorabilia, lovely antiques, oriental carpets on wide-plank oak and chestnut floors, a stone fireplace and high-end bed linens. Enjoy the outdoors from two patios and a covered porch, with views of mountains and fields. Relax in the comfort of a fully-equipped modern house with a touch of our English heritage.
Our surroundings provide the opportunity to witness the traditional fox hunt, watch farm-related chores and animals, walk along quiet country roads, hike to Goose Creek, enjoy our extensive flowering trees and perennials, or simply relax on the porch swing while you watch the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests can enjoy seeing our miniature donkeys romp around their pasture. Mother Nature provides the opportunity to experience: the flights of red-shouldered hawks, pileated woodpeckers and the occasional great blue heron; our perennial pair of Canada Geese walking through the horse field; deer grazing in our fields and the nightly sounds of owls and spring peepers.
Our farm is located one hour west of Washington, D.C. and 40 minutes west of Dulles International Airport. We are in a rural area with farms 300 to 1500 acres nearby. Fine dining is available in every direction from Middleburg to Leesburg, Warrenton, Upperville and of course the D.C. area. Recreational activities exist all around with Vineyards and Wineries, Museums, Battlefields, hiking on local trails or the Appalachian Trail, horseback riding, tubing on the Shenandoah River at historic Harpers Ferry, WV. Loudoun and Fauquier Counties have the largest concentration of wineries in the state, providing the opportunity to spend full days touring and tasting a great variety of Virginia wines.
The cottage would be an excellent home base while visiting Washington, D.C. or for the business person doing an extended stay in the DC Metro area or the Dulles Corridor and wanting space for their family to visit on weekends. A great weekend escape for residents of the DC area, we welcome weekend foxhunters, couples on retreat, families seeking country pleasures, cyclists, writers seeking solitude or anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the mystique of Middleburg and the hunt country of Virginia. Those involved in fox hunting will enjoy our proximity to all of the local hunt meets; the Middleburg Hunt and The Snickersville Hunt pass through adjoining farms. We welcome riders in the numerous horse shows in our area, from the Hunter/Jumpers to Steeplechasers. Garden lovers and those following the spring garden tours will love our proximity to the Virginia State Arboretum at Blandy, Oatlands Plantation, Morven Park, Long Branch, and numerous other historical homes and gardens.

- "We had an absolutely wonderful and peaceful stay at Yellowwood Cottage. The location is perfect, just a short drive from the town of Middleburg, but tucked away on a gorgeous rural road, perfect for walks or bike rides. The house is beautiful inside, with comfortable beds and furniture, a well stocked kitchen with quality dishes and bowls, etc, and a lovely deck overlooking the large yard where you can enjoy watching the sweet wildlife. Communication was easy, it was pristinely clean upon arrival, and the yard and trash were kept very tidy. We only used two of the bedrooms, but it is set up nicely with the four bedrooms being separated well, and all lovely. It was just perfect for our needs, and among the best VRBOs we have rented. We enthusiastically recommend Yellowood Cottage. Thank you, Missy, we loved our stay!"

Check-in and check-out was very easy, and Dawood was an excellent host - easy to communicate with and quick to respond. Would definitely stay again." - "Wonderful spot convenient to Middleburg and all attractions of the area. I intentionally gave a less than perfect score to the question about "accuracy of the listing" because there are wonderful aspects of this listing that are not mentioned. Even though this house abuts a rather busy road, it also sits right next to expansive vineyards and a winery! Also, across the street is a country road that winds through miles of horse farms -- perfect for a leisurely and restorative bike ride or walk. More to this rental than meets the eye, and what meets the eye is quite pleasant!"

The cottage has been remodeled to offer all the essentials you would want for a perfect weekend getaway.
Being an interior designer from Belgium, I've tried to furnish the cottage with a clean country feel, that is warm and inviting. It's not what you will find typically in the Middleburg area, as it has a more European feel to it, but it has been completely remodeled and offers everything you would need as if you were staying at a boutique hotel with a kitchen.
- "Nice place in a quiet neighborhood." - "Lovely clean and cozy place surrounded by beautiful countryside! Very easy arrival and communication, it was the perfect warm retreat during a busy holiday!" - "Wife and I had the urge to get away from the city for a weekend. This place had it all, great space for two, and an unreal location from town. Will be coming back!" - "This is our second time renting the cottage where we chose to celebrate our 5th anniversary and had the most amazing weekend relaxing and enjoying the peace and calm of the country. The location could not have been more convenient to the center of town since it only took us 10 min to be in the middle of shopping and restaurants. The cottage is perfectly decorated and has all the amenities you would want (high-speed internet, cable, fully stocked kitchen). We will be back."

As featured in the July/August 2017 issue of Home & Design and Milieu Magazine in 2019, This 200 year old Hunters Retreat, has been completely renovated to the highest standards. Please note that there is a spring house on the property that is not fenced in and could be a hazard to young kids,.
The main house has 3 bedrooms, two on the upstairs floor that is joined by one large bathroom with separate toilet. On the main floor is another bedroom that has a VERY comfortable pull out couch with a private toilet and has a full bathroom on the lower level. It's a 200 year authentic former farm house that has been fully restored, so the layout is not your standard one. The guest cottage has a separate listing on airbnb (called super cosy cottage on large estate) , but can be rented with the main house so everyone can be together. Hence is why the listing states that it sleeps 8. If you would like to book for 8 people though, I will need to check that the guest house is available during that weekend as it has a separate listing on airbnb.
We also have a few private chefs available for your consideration, if you would like to have a home cooked meal, picnic or be taken care of, culinary wise ,during your entire stay. If you are interested please let me know and I can send you my recommendations.

Again, if you would like to book for 8 people, let me know so that I can check if the guest house is available. We have only used the best materials during this remodeling and are only interested in people that appreciate a high end home and will treat it with respect. This is NOT a "hunt cabin".
- "We rented both the main house and guest house. The entire time was absolutely amazing and we all fell in love with the charm these places offered. The property manager was very responsive and a sheer pleasure to work with. We cannot express how much we enjoyed our trip to Middleburg!" - "My family and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this most stunning home and grounds in Middleburg VA. While the indoor space is beautifully decorated, serene and cozy, we spent a great deal of time out of doors on the stone patio with its beautiful alfresco dining space. Perfect !"

- "We had a great time! The house was comfortable and we enjoyed hearing about the history of the house and property! Rebecca was a wonderful hostess and great communicator. " - "We stayed at this beautiful, historic property for a weekend retreat for female entrepreneurs. There were plenty of bedrooms, ample indoor and outdoor space for both large group and small group activities (including a candlelight yoga class), a large formal dining room in which all 10 of us could sit around the table for all of our meals, and gorgeous grounds where we walked whenever there was a break in the rain. The home is in a quiet and secluded setting that's just a short drive from many area restaurants, shops, and wineries. We are grateful for this exceptional stay! "

Rent this private and cozy cottage, converted from a 200 year old bank barn, located on Goose Creek and minutes away from Middleburg town. The cottage has been remodeled to offer all the essentials you would want for a perfect weekend getaway.
The space
Being an interior designer from Belgium, I've tried to furnish the cottage with a clean country feel, that is warm and inviting. It's not what you will find typically in the Middleburg area, as it has a more European feel to it, but it has been completely remodeled and offers everything you would need as if you were staying at a boutique hotel with a kitchen. Comfortable bed with feather duvet, darkening roman shades, hardwood floor, full kitchen including dishwasher and microwave a rain shower in the bathroom and a big screen TV with comfortable seating in the living room. This cottage is on the same location as the listing on airbnb called Hunters Retreat.
Guest access
There is parking right in front of the cottage, from time to time you may see our horses when we are staying in the main house. Feel free to walk down the path to goose Creek for a nice nature walk or bring a picnic. In summer, you will also be able to enjoy a nice cocktail on the lounge chairs on the deck overlooking our neighbour's pastures or have dinner outside as there's also a dining table with two chairs . The cottage is on our private road so there will be no traffic when you are there.
Other things to note
I've put a lot of love into the cottage, we hope you enjoy and leave it as you found it. Please check back on the site as we also have other properties available in Georgetown DC and Ibiza Spain .

Welcome
Thank you for being here. This home is thoughtfully curated and personally cared for. It’s not a hotel—it’s a quiet space that holds a sense of calm, simplicity, and intention.
This home embraces the spirit of wabi-sabi—the beauty of the lived-in, the hand-touched, and the quietly imperfect.
To support a good stay, I kindly ask that you:
• Communicate promptly if something isn’t working or feels off. I’m just a message away, and timely communication allows me to help while it still matters.
• Treat the space with care, as you would a friend’s home.
• Refer to the guide for details, and reach out if anything is unclear.
• Share feedback while you’re here, not just afterward. I’d much rather fix something in real time than read about it in hindsight.
This is a place shaped by values, not perfection. I host with the belief that hospitality is mutual—and that respect and responsiveness go both ways.
I’m glad to welcome you.

Your Wellbeing is Our Top Priority
COVID-19 may have affected part of your life, but it doesn’t mean it has to take away from your “home away from home” experience.
We have always prided ourselves in providing an exceptionally clean environment, and have implemented heightened safety and sanitizing measures, as recommended by the guidance from the world’s leading health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO).
The entire house is always thoroughly disinfected by professional cleaning staff and we also require at least 24 hours between each booking. We clean with environmentally friendly hospital grade cleaners, including every single doorknob and handle.
The accommodations were designed with comfort in mind, but in a setting that is comparable to hotel accommodations. All our linens are white, guaranteeing cleanliness, floors are a product that can be thoroughly sanitized, carpets are removable and large furniture has covers that are washed after every guest stay. There is also no ductwork in the home, guaranteeing that no airborne infections can occur. Additionally, three air cleaners are utilized in the home as well as dehumidification.
We also adhere to and exceed AirBNB's advanced cleaning protocols.
