- "From the moment I booked our stay, the owners were prompt to respond to me and provide good information in advance. The home has been lovingly maintained and was just the experience I had hoped for. The proximity to Antietam National Battlefield was perfect. I selected this home as a "surprise" for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. We were traveling with our 15 year old dog who did not take to the stairs in the home very well (they are steep and short which guests are warned about) but the owners thoughtfully included pet/baby gates to avoid any misstep. Very positive experience."

So many details to share, just ask!
- "Our family stayed at the Potomac River Retreat this summer for a full week. It was lovely. The location is great. The wifi was hit or miss... but we were on vacation so that was fine! The hot tub was great to have. We had a small problem with bee's, but the owner, Tony, let us know that he was dealing with a pest control company before we even checked in. His communication was very good. The home was clean and very unique! The grass roof was something I had never seen before! If I had to find one thing for improvement, it would be the curtains in the master bedroom. They are sheer enough to see through and if anyone was walking to the hot tub, they could see right in. This could be a concern of privacy for some. We improvised and personally was not that big of a deal. The town of Shepherdstown is very nice! If you like old towns with a unique vibe, this is it! Harpers Ferry is close by and also a great place to visit. DC is just an hour and a half away. We did a day trip. I recommend, if you are in to it, taking the ghost walk in Shepherdstown. It was very cool! Overall, it was a great vacation."

- "This is one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. Nice, clean home with comfortable beds. Kitchen is stocked, if you want to cook, but I suggest eating at ALL the restaurants on German Street. Amy, the hostess, is a very nice woman and she’s easy to work with. She really goes above and beyond for her guests. For our stay, she contacted me to see when we would arrive. She gave us an earlier check in time. She has this place stocked. If we needed paper towels or toilet paper, she has it. She has extra light bulbs. She has laundry detergent, cleaners, soaps, shampoo and conditioner. I was shocked and thankful. She’s so thoughtful, she has earplugs on the nightstand. Amy and her husband are the BEST hosts a traveler could ask for. Definitely recommend. 5 stars. 10/10. We would/will stay here again."

Welcome to our home on the C&O Canal and the Potomac river, an original 1790 log house expanded in 1857, retaining its historic charm while featuring many modern amenities. The perfect place to be physically active or mellow, staying inside or enjoying multiple areas outdoors, day or night (lit with festive night lights).
Reconnect with nature! The expansive grounds have old tall mature trees, native flowers and garden-favorites, bushes, and a fire pit. Bird lovers, bring your binoculars or just watch the bird feeder below the pergola! Many species of birds visit our feeders and baths. Star gazing, far from the city lights, is another Guest favorite.
We are striving to reduce our environmental impact by restoring an American meadow and increasing the number of native plants that can be admired on our grounds. This obviates the need for using chemicals, reducing Potomac pollution, and attracting pollinators and other wild life. You are likely to see and hear numerous types of birds, insects, frogs, and perhaps even some animals and reptiles indigenous to the Potomac area. They are harmless unless attacked.
The maximum capacity of our historic house is 4 guests, the maximum capacity of each bedroom is 2 guests. The use of one of the bedrooms is included in the base price listed, the use of the second bedroom requires an additional charge. The guests need to be able to climb stairs to the entrance door, to upstairs bedrooms, and into the antique clawfoot bath tub. Tall people need to bend a bit when taking a shower.
Secluded, yet not remote, our home is the perfect base for exploring nature on foot, by bike, or by boat. The property is on the C&O Canal and offers seasonal views of the Potomac (when trees on its banks lose their leaves!) across the towpath.
The house is also a great base to explore the many close-by sites important in American history, and quaint historic little towns with good restaurants. Premium Outlet shopping and dining is also within miles.

- "We really enjoyed our visit. The house is immaculately maintained for it's age. The outdoor areas seem endless and are welcoming as you stroll the walkways to the home. The home is a cozy retreat from everyday life. As a huge plus, the kitchen is stocked with everything we were looking for, making cooking dinner a simple process. We look forward to coming back in the winter." - "This was our second stay at Taylors Landing, for our anniversary. What an idyllic location to enjoy nature -- we brought our bikes for the towpath, and the kayaks for the river, within walking distance of the house. Our first stay was in winter, and delightful. This time we saw the garden in all its splendor. The towpath was excellent for biking, and we enjoyed the fireflies at dusk during our ride. The river was incredibly clear -- I'd post a picture if we were able -- we could see the bottom and all the fish. Loved spotting the green herons and the bald eagle! Thank you, Vern, for sharing your lovely house and grounds, as well as for introducing us to Sunnyside Meadows, with its amazing ice cream and beautiful garden nursery. We especially loved the renovated lagoon and pond examples. From the warm welcome note and care to make sure we could access the house, to the obvious care of the house and garden, Vern is a great host. One of our favorite locations on the Potomac River. Our tip -- park in the back, unpack your stuff at the back door, then enter the front (shoes off) and carry it in. :)"

Welcome to this patch of serenity on the river's edge, to this hideaway.
Take a seat. Decompress a moment. Take note of the expanse at your purview. This is your temporary home. This is your reprieve from the pin numbers, passwords, online postings, news alerts and the 24/7 world that so consumes us.
Here you will find a home that touts all the modern conveniences while ensconced in another time, a slower time, a time of reflection if you are so inclined.
The space
Here you will find three bedrooms that sleep six, two full bathrooms, a kitchen, a flat-screen television, wi-fi and the gorgeous views of the Potomac River, which divides West Virginia from Maryland on the opposite shore.
Here you will find a home that touts all the modern conveniences while ensconced in another time, a slower time, a time of reflection if you are so inclined.
There is a grill, if grilling is your forte. There is a deck that requires nothing more than your presence.
This stretch of the river lures all kind of water enthusiasts: kayakers, canoers, bird-watchers, photographers, Civil War aficionados and anglers seeking to land a good-sized walleye.
Many of your water-related needs can be met at Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle on German Street, the principal thoroughfare in town.
There are plenty of hiking trails around Knott Road. Nothing puts you at one with Mother Nature more than the quiet and solitude of the untouched forests that envelop the area. Many are as they were in the early 1860s, when the Yankees lined the far shore and the Rebels the one that beckoned you.
Otherwise, please enjoy your time in this idyllic setting.
Guest access
The entire house, front and back patios, front yard, and water access to the Potomac River.
Other things to note
That rooster you sometimes hear crowing is in charge of the neighborhood watch group, although his calls are mostly directed to the flock of hens that responds to his reports of finding a trove of yummy bugs or the occasional predator. And, my, how the flock loves bits of bread.
We have a security camera mounted on the front of our deck. The coverage area includes our driveway, lower steps, and front yard. It is not our aim to invade your privacy.
- "We enjoyed a nice family getaway at this beautiful retreat! We were a family of 6 and the house met all our needs. My only comment would be the outside front stairs were steep for the grandparents in their late 70’s. There are images shown, it was just us not fully thinking it through." - "Perfect place to stay and visit Antitem and Harpers Ferry Sites. Location was convenient and the house was beautiful. Spacious and a great view. We enjoyed the deck. Bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size. The house had everything we needed. Loved that the owners thought of everything from board games, coffee, extra towels, pillows, blankets, a fan etc… the house was clean, booking was easy owner was very responsive. Perfect spot"

Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this romantic 200 square foot tiny house situated on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and take advantage of all the activities on the river and surrounding area. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river and watch the birds and wild life. Sit and read by the river or in the quite comfort of the house, w/ a bottle of wine on us. Experience tiny house living with this unique home while still enjoying some modern comforts. There is no running water in the home and the bathroom is a modern outhouse.
This is a 1940s refurbished fisherman's cabin. It was likely built in or about 1942 as the original electric fixtures are from that date, we had to modernize them though as they don't meet current code. It is very likely that the structure was built to replace an older wooden structure in the same location. There is electricity but no running water, bottled water is provided.
NOTE that the bathroom is a pit outhouse located nearby.
On the west side of the 200square foot room, you will find a very comfortable Queen sized bed with CertiPUR foam mattress and lots of pillows. There are several blankets. At the foot is a WWII mail crate restored and converted to a trunk that was found in the tiny house, used to store extra linens and blankets. Above the headboard is a fantastic decorative shelf made from river maple that fell by the river in front of the building. Right in front of the bed is a window affording great views of the river.
On the east side of the building is the sitting area with kitchen cabinets. The counter is made from old reclaimed barn door complete with the clasp. The shelves above are from the from of the barn door complete with hinges. Equipped with utensils, a microwave, dorm fridge, and crock water dispenser. A table for two in front of another river facing window.
Outside is a small porch with two comfortable chairs and BBQ, that has a commanding view of the river. The cabin and this sitting area are nestled back into the wooded hillside loved by a plethora of songbirds and woodpeckers. We have an unheated outdoor seasonal shower (turned off before first frost in fall).
Home sits on 2.5 acres adjacent to the Potomac river with C&O national historical park across the river. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path and markers.
Nestled to the other side of the tiny house is the very clean and comfortable pit toilet (out house). It is in the original location but all rebuilt with modern seat and plenty of privacy, well vented and stocked with hand sanitizer.
Full access to all living spaces, parking area, all yard areas.
The river front and fire pit are shared areas with the Stone River house.
House includes:
Free WiFi, but no TV
heat
bedding
microwave
BBQ and porch with a view

The space is newly renovated and beautifully designed and decorated to make you feel right at home. This three-bedroom home sits on over an acre of private land providing plenty of space for up to six guests. The entire property is 100% private and yours alone! The home sits at the top of a hill overlooking Antietam Creek Vineyards and parts of Antietam Battlefield with a stunning view of the mountains in the background. The view can be enjoyed best sitting at the brand-new kitchen bar sipping your morning coffee or from the walkout deck on the back of the house! For a change of pace, head into the wooded space in the back of the house and build a fire in the fire pit.
We’re happy to welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes! Our deck features a sliding gate, creating a fully enclosed space where your furry friends can safely enjoy both indoors and outdoors with you. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate cats or other types of pets at this time.
Outdoor amenities/Winery/Battlefield - The large deck attached to the back of the house is accessible through the large sliding glass back door and also from the driveway on the left of the house. A gas grill and utensils are provided on the deck along with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. Definitely, turn on the switch on the bottom of the umbrella pole at night to see the lights inside the umbrella. Immediately to the left of the driveway is another very long driveway/road which is the entrance to Antietam Creek Vineyards, which is about a five-minute walk or a five second drive down the hill. If you make a left at the winery, you will be headed out onto the battlefield towards Snavely Ford Trail and Burnside Bridge. Between the house and the winery is a wooded area which you also will have private access to and includes a picnic area and a fire pit with chairs. Firewood is not provided so please bring locally sourced firewood if you would like to build a fire!
You can find all details about products and live music schedules on the Antietam Creek Vineyards website.
Hot tub - Indulge in the ultimate relaxation with our hot tub, available for use year-round! Whether it's a soothing soak after a day of exploring the Antietam battlefield in the summer or a magical experience under a blanket of stars during winter, the hot tub promises to be a delightful addition to your stay. Nestled under a charming pergola with a retractable shade roof, you can unwind while soaking in the picturesque views of the mountains and historical battlefield. Whether it's a romantic escape or a fun getaway with friends, the hot tub offers a perfect oasis for all seasons, ensuring you have a memorable and rejuvenating stay.
River Tubing/Kayaking - As an added service, we offer up to SIX HIGH QUALITY RIVER TUBES available for you to use along with an air pump to inflate them. Note that the air pump is not cordless so tubes would need to be inflated at home or powered with a car adapter. There is a flat fee of $10 per tube which covers the entire length of the stay. If the weather permits, I highly recommend tubing down Antietam Creek. If your group has at least two vehicles, ask me for info on put in and take out options and you can do it all yourself! Otherwise, there are plenty of local companies where you can tube, kayak, and more and they provide shuttle services back to the put in. There are options both in Antietam Creek and the Potomac River.
Kitchen & Dining Room - There is a large kitchen with plenty of cabinet and counter space, including a brand-new kitchen bar with three bar stools. Dish sets and silverware are included for at least six people as well as pots, pans, ovenware, knives, cutting boards, and cooking utensils. The kitchen is complete with all standard appliances including a dishwasher, microwave, stove/oven, and refrigerator with freezer. The coffee station is a Keurig machine with complimentary k-cup coffee, cream, and sugar. The dining area provides an additional four chairs around a large dining table.
Living Room & Laundry - A perfect space for relaxing, socializing, or watching a movie on the flat screen. Open the closet in the entryway to find brooms/mops/cleaning supplies and the brand-new washer and dryer. Tide pods are provided for your convenience.
Bedrooms - Our three bedrooms are each designed with their own unique feel and character. Each includes comfortable queen-size beds made up with all linens, blankets, quilts, and pillows as pictured. There is a flat screen smart TV in each room for your entertainment and an outlet bay with USB and wireless smart phone charging station on each nightstand.
Bathroom - Our fully remodeled bathroom includes newly tiled floors and a curtained shower with bathtub. Bathroom is fully stocked with the necessities (towels and toilet paper) as well as shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and a blow dryer for your convenience.
Guests have private and exclusive access to the entire 1-acre property which includes the entire house, front and back yards, including the wooded area with fire pit in the backyard that extends down to the vineyards.
The winery often has live music on their outdoor stage which you can usually hear from the deck! It's usually barely loud enough to hear clearly from the deck but creates a nice atmosphere. Check the Antietam Creek Vineyards website for details and live music schedules!
During certain times of year on the property and in the surrounding area bugs can be bad. During these times please bring bug spray just in case if you plan to spend a lot of time outside!
Cell phone service, especially for Verizon customers, may be weak on the property and much of the surrounding area and even downtown Sharpsburg are complete dead zones. High speed WiFi is included onsite and it is recommended that you connect to the WiFi and enable WiFi calling on your phone if you are having any connection trouble.
There is a Ring doorbell system (video camera) at the front door which covers the area in front of the house including the front stoop, entire front yard, and driveway. This is for your security.
- "My friends/partners and I used this home for a weekend getaway to enjoy some river tubing. I feel like the pictures don't due the home justice. The decor is warm and inviting. Beds very comfortable. THe house is fully stocked with plenty of utensils, pots pans, and basic cooking supplies such as oil, salt, pepper, tin foil etc. We rented the tubes available to float on the antietam creek. If you have two vehicles well worth the 10 dollars. We were able to tube on our own time without the chaos of using a large company. The owner was very easy to communicate with throughout the stay. Highly recommend!"

We were able to easily walk to restaurants (I would recommend Alma Bea, Blue Moon Cafe, and Lilah) and also nearby places of interest, such as the Riverfront Park and the Rumsey Monument. It was also fun to trace the Town Run through town (it is a small creek fed by a spring south of town that runs north through Shepherdstown to the Potomac). The location of our stay was awesome, and the apartment itself was clean and well-appointed. If we return to Shepherdstown, we will have to stay again. Thanks, Zeb!"

Shepherdstown is a walking town. It is recommended that guests park their vehicle in the private parking provided and enjoy the extremely close proximity of the apartment to all the amenities Shepherdstown has to offer.
Due to Shepherdstown's historical reliance on rail for travel and goods, it's important to note that the railway through town is still active, and the passing trains may be a concern for light sleepers.

Although there is a lot that you can do in the area, we were in need of respite, so other than taking multiple walks a day, we enjoyed time on the expansive screened-in porch, looking out at the beautiful scenery and listening and watching the birds. We also enjoyed making meals in the kitchen and using the outside grill for bacon to burgers. We slept very well on the very comfortable king size bed. Serena is a great host as she readily replied whenever contacted. We are definitely planning to return. - "We stayed with my husband, our two kids (2.5 yr and 5 months), my parents and their dog. It was a great spot for a quick family getaway! There was a pack n play crib provided with a crib sheet and lots of board games and toys for our 2.5 yr old to entertain himself with. A baby gate was also provided which was very helpful! It’s located right next to an amazing general store with handmade wooden toys. But it’s also located right off the train tracks and we could hear trains coming through the night. Thankfully it didn’t wake the kids up, but just a fair warning for lighter sleepers! My toddler loved watching the trains go by in the daytime. Check in was supremely easy and overall the place was lovely! There was also a nice outdoor space we unfortunately didn’t get to use since the weather was too rainy, but it would’ve been great."

- "I rented this property to be near Shepherd University (6-minute drive) to set up and facilitate a camp. I did not check my VRBO app for check-in info. until the day I was to check in. When I looked for the check-in details, I could not find them. I had a small window of time to check in, change, and get back to camp. When I called the number listed, Amy responded. This is a new property, and she was unaware that the property had been rented. It was not ready. She asked if I could check in later, around 6:30 pm, so she could clean and wash the linens. Then the time needed to be pushed back again. Amy greeted me at the property. She was lovely and apologetic for the misunderstanding, but running the camp was stressful, and renting this space was supposed to make it easier. The townhouse is lovely and clean. It is a 3-floor unit with only a few rooms being utilized. I did not use the kitchen, but it appeared clean with adequate supplies. The living room is being used as a studio apartment with a sofa (did not use) and two chairs (did not use). The bed was a mattress on a frame. It was adequate, but not for more than a short stay. These rooms and a small powder room are on the second floor. The full bathroom is on the third floor. Nice shower and plenty of hot water. This place has great potential, once the kinks get worked out."

Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this romantic 200 square foot tiny house situated on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and partake of all the activities on the river and surrounding area, just 1 mile from Shepherdstown. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river and watch the birds and wild life. Read by the river or in the quiet comfort of the house, w/ some wine on us.
The space
This is a 1940s refurbished fisherman's cabin. It was likely built in or about 1942 as the original electric fixtures are from that date, we had to modernize them though as they don't meet current code. It is very likely that the structure was built to replace an older wooden structure in the same location. There is electricity but no running water, water dispenser is provided.
NOTE that the bathroom is a pit outhouse located nearby.
On the west side of the 200square foot room, you will find a comfortable Queen sized bed with CertiPUR foam mattress and lots of pillows.
To the East of the porch is a small three seasons outdoor shower and sink. The shower is fed by cold water but has a 5.5 gallon solar warming tank attached (it is in tree shade so the showers will be cold). NOTE that we will be shutting off the outdoor shower before the first frost and back on after last frost.

The Studio and Shepherdstown are surrounded by waterways, and during the hottest seasons it’s normal for insects of all kinds to call it home too. We've done our best to outfit The Studio with options of bug spray and have also treated the area best we can (we do love our pollinators) to ensure little buzzers like mosquitos don't cramp your style during your stay. The screen doors let the outdoors (breezes, smells, sounds) in, and keep the buggos out!

Only a third of the grounds is mowed regularly in the summer. The other parts are left for spontaneous native and some non native plants to grow so that insects can thrive and participate in the food chain and attract birds. These plants have all kinds of sizes and in the summer, it looks messy where it is not mowed. Botanical species that for many qualify as weeds blossom and do attract insects and in turn birds. If you would rather have pristine grounds, you may not want to rent my house.
