You essentially rent two rooms with an adjoining door between them, one of which is your standard bedroom, mini-fridge and bathroom (with a vanity mirror with integrated LED lights) and the other which contains a kitchenette with full-sized fridge, couch (which can fold out to another bed) with side tables and a coffee table. Plates, utencils and limited cookware are provided, though you will hand-wash dishes. It was essentially a small apartment, and could have comfortably fit a family! My dog stayed with me for free, and there's a partially-fenced area across from the pool where pets can relieve themselves (though few people seem to clean up after them). We enjoyed walking around the city square just blocks from the hotel, and explored the Greenway in town during our stay. It's a quick drive to Shenandoah Park as well as some caverns, though we didn't take advantage of that this trip. The space where complimentary breakfast is provided is also a thai restaurant during lunch/dinner hours. Again, didn't take advantage of it during this trip, but would definitely try it another time. All in all, very charming little town with a comfortable space to stay and explore!"

The Drive
The one mile dirt road to get to our cabin is not state owned. It’s not steep, but it is full of potholes. Slow and steady will get you to the cabin. You do not need a truck or 4 wheel drive. HOWEVER- months where snow is in the forecast will require 4 wheel drive, as we do not know when or if someone will be able to plow. Parking is unlimited.

Most importantly, no cameras are placed inside the house, underscoring our strong commitment to prioritizing both your safety and privacy.

end of a perfect day.
• Wine- Lots of wineries within 30-40 minutes of the cabin.
• Beer- Some breweries are in the area and more are popping up

Stunningly designed Cottage on a private corner of a historic 108 acre farm. Situated on a scenic bluff overlooking the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains this 'cottage' has a stone fireplace and wood beamed ceilings through the main floor. In addition to three covered porches (including one with a Hot Tub) there is a 34' second floor deck overlooking the river. At river level there is a multi-level deck (to be noted, the walk down the hill is a bit steep and there are 40+ steps to the deck) and floating dock right on the water. Perfect for boating fishing, swimming or just enjoying the sun and water. Less than one hour from the Washington Beltway and Dulles Airport. - "We found the Overlook when seeking a pet-friendly, well-appointed property to spend the week between Christmas and New Years with our family. With plans for baking, cooking, board games and relaxation this house was absolutely perfect. The kitchen has everything! We all enjoyed the home, vista and property. Every kind of seating you can imagine outside has been thought of--covered porch, open air terrace, expansive deck and rockers on the front porch. The outdoor hot-tub was new, clean, perfect for 3 at a time. We used it every day! When there was an issue with it the property manager responded immediately and it was fixed. We have stayed in a lot of VRBO properties and this by far was the best: Wonderful family who own and manage the property. Truly wanted to make sure we had the best possible experience. The dishwasher stopped working on New Years Eve and before we knew it the owner and his son came and installed a new one so we could keep cooking. WOW! The view of the Shenandoah in the winter was stunning. Light pours in through the abundant windows. We enjoyed two seating areas (upstairs and down) and the gas fireplace that came on with the touch of a switch. We did use the outside firepit and would have used the propane fire pit (it worked) if we hadn't been so cozy inside. The upstairs 36 ft deck is incredible. Beautiful, serene meadow to walk in and only 10 to 15 mins from stores, restaurants and starbucks. 5 stars all the way for a winter getaway."

This beautiful home, which we have named The Snug, is a guest favorite in our Rolling River Holidays rental portfolio! The house was designed and built by the owner of the property, Frank O'Reilly, and not a detail was left out. The house is located on a stunning ten acre river site on the 108 acre Rolling River Farm, and is nestled in the trees. Walk out of the back of the house, onto any of the three levels of decks and patios and be met by lovely views of the Shenandoah River.

The interior boasts 3 bedrooms (2 ensuite), 3.5 baths. The central feature of the home is the custom-designed spiral staircase, which winds from the full and spacious basement up to the cozy top floor master suite that is nestled up in the treetops.

The full, bright kitchen offers plenty of counter space and a movable island with extra seating. It also features a comfortable, built in dining space that is also a perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning with morning sun warming your face.

The upstairs living room, just beside the kitchen, is the perfect place for relaxing, playing board games, and snuggling up by the gas fireplace. Down in the basement is a large media and rec room space, where you can gather for movies or some healthy competition around the foosball or orbital air hockey tables.

While the inside space is incredibly welcoming, you can also seamlessly enjoy the great outdoor spaces that the house provides. Whiskey Hill Cabin is based on a classic design from the 1960’s which makes it a unique place to enjoy your vacation! The cabin is a fully renovated chalet style cabin with many modern updates. Some of the updates include a new fireplace wood stove for guest use, pine and cedar ceilings, a new bathroom and honed granite countertops. The cabin has a large deck that is perfect for enjoying the nature of the mountain. Since the cabin was designed in the 1960’s the interior steps were not designed with today’s standards, but we love the classic design so we decided to keep it original. We ask that you please keep in mind that the interior loft stairs are not suitable for children. We appreciate your understanding.

The cabin is in Virginia wine country. It is close to 10+ Virginia wineries including Fox Meadow Winery (3.4 mi) and Crimson Lane Vineyards (7.9 mi), Skyline drive and the Appalachian Trail (GR Thompson State Wildlife Management area is about 5 minutes away; famous for trillium flowers). Enjoy the areas many activities including: hiking, canoeing, horse back riding, wine tasting and the natural surroundings.

The cabin is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is set on a private wooded mountain lot with winter views of the Shenandoah Valley and mountain ranges. During your stay you will enjoy the peaceful quiet of the mountains, local wildlife, amazing sunsets and bright starry nights. We are transitioning our lawn to a natural deer habitat, so you are likely to get an up-close view. Please drive with caution and do not disturb them. While there are nearby preserves for hunting, hunting is not permitted at Whitetail Summit.

Whitetail Summit is paradise for you, your kids, and your pups! Enjoy stunning mountain views less than 5 minutes from the Shenandoah River; hiking directly adjacent to the property; and 12 minutes from several of Virginia's best wineries. You'll also be 15 minutes from horseback riding, and around the corner from the Ashby Inn, one of Virginia's most storied restaurants. You'll have to make the climb to enjoy the view. Our property is located one mile down a well-maintained gravel road, and up a moderately steep hill. We recommend AWD drive during inclement weather and the winter months.

Summary:
Secluded chalet near the top of a mountain on 8 acres, just 70 minutes from downtown DC, 20 minutes to old town Front Royal, close enough to get Instacart from groceries, Costco and Target, and private enough to enjoy your sunset view from the deck every night and to not see any other homes! The home is at the end of a long gravel road and parking in a small cul-de-sac. Dogs are allowed for a $100 fee per stay (3 dogs max, can not be left alone overnight) .

The Space:
Two levels of luxury meets rustic charm, with three gas fireplaces, billiards table, hot tub (almost floating in the trees!), huge deck, and TV's with Rokus in almost every room, including bedrooms. Guests can divide into two groups, one upstairs and one down: Upstairs features the three bedroom, two bathroom space with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows facing sunset; Downstairs features a kitchenette, two king bedrooms, bathroom and incredible views downstairs plus a separate wheelchair-friendly entrance below. There is a gas grill, gas fire pit, outdoor dining table for 10, and new carpet, paint, lighting, furniture and decor as of 2021! NOTE: there is bedding and towels for 5 king/queen beds and 4 additional twin beds that can be placed in any bedroom or living area as extra. If you intend to also use the four twin beds you must bring your own bedding for those.

A vaulted ceiling on the main level, with a stone-look gas fireplace and 65" television, 8-speaker surround speaker system and Roku/Alexa for entertainment. Two internet networks and 5 bars on AT&T/Verizon with full internet and voice connection.

Guest Access:
Guests can drive in and enter using the code provided to them before check-in. Note: the road and driveway is steep and paved with gravel. 4WD or AWD vehicles are recommended but we have had guests in small 2-wheel-drive sedans without issue. If it is icy you may have issues.

The Neighborhood:
A secluded neighborhood in the heart of Shenandoah Farms, with access to the Shenandoah River just at the bottom of the mountain (with parking lot and boat put-in too). There are two convenience stores within a 5 minute drive of the home, and you can be at the Ashby Inn (reserve early!) in 13 minutes, Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville in 25 minutes, or downtown Front Royal in 25 minutes too.

Getting Around:
To the right on Howellsville Road, you can be in Winchester in 30 minutes, Upperville in 25 minutes, Middleburg in 35 minutes and Front Royal (downtown) in 25 minutes.

Other Things to Note:
ON 8 PRIVATE ACRES!! Almost no one else is visible... just you and the sprawling valley view in front of you, including the Shenandoah river from one side of the vista to the other, sunsets over the ridge every night and deer in your front yard each morning!

HIKING SKY MEADOWS STATE PARK:
Just around the corner, about a 13 minute drive from the house is Sky Meadows State Park, with several trails and great views there.

DINING AT A HISTORIC INN:
The Ashby Inn is next to Sky Meadows, in Paris, VA. It dates back to the Revolutionary War and has food that is to die for. (BOOK EARLY)

CANOEING/KAYAKING/TUBING THE SHENANDOAH: They call Front Royal the Canoe Capital of America, but it is fantastic for kayaking and lazy river tubing too! There are two great companies nearby that can arrange a float, or bring your own equipment and use the put-in just at the bottom of the mountain, free for residents and guests of our neighborhood.

EXPLORING HISTORIC TOWNS:
Just around the other corner is Millwood, a lovely town with a fantastic market (Locke Market), beautiful restaurant (the Buttery), both across from an old Mill with picnic area and a waterfall. 20 minutes down the other direction is Upperville, with the Hunter's Head Tavern, with great food and great prices too! Just past Upperville is Middleburg, a super quaint town with its own distillery, plus markets, ice cream shops and even a tasting room nearby (Boxwood).

And, duh.... DRINKING WINE:
Route 17 connects 50 and 66 (exit 23 on 66) and has 4 or 5 wineries peppered between gorgeous estate manors. Blue Valley is one of our favorites, with excellent wine and gorgeous grounds and views. Delaplane is a pretty location too, and for the fancy wine tasting experience in an architecturally stunning setting, check out rdV WInery (maximum 4 people). Our favorite wine is probably the Cabernet Franc at Chester Gap Cellars, which also has one of the most stunning views too, and that is just about 35 minutes from the house too.

Big family house, centrally located in Historic old town. Walking distance to several cafes, restaurants, shops. 5 min to Skyline Caverns and 5 min to Shenandoah National Park. 7 min to canoe, kayak rentals. Perfect for large families who want to be close to nature but want to go to dinner in town or eat at home. We have a dining room table that will fit the entire family and a living room comfortable for the whole family. Anyone who has trouble with stairs will appreciate the bedroom downstairs with a full bathroom. There is a ramp out back and one stair will get you in the house.

Both were easy to access with the Park being only a few minutes from the house. It was also a short walk into town for dinner or ice cream. - "A little buggy in the area and house, but that’s nature, right?! Besides that, beautiful place, can’t wait to come back!" - "The house was absolutely stunning - very clean, well decorated, comfortable and cozy, with every amenity you can imagine. The views from the porch were so beautiful and we loved watching the sunset. Service was patchy near the house (in the house the wifi was perfect) so I recommend loading up the map to make sure you know where you’re going towards the end. Host was very responsive and accommodating. We tubed the river and went to Bear Chase Brewing and loved both activities! Went into Front Royal for groceries vs the close small shop (recommend this if you need full cooking groceries) but it was an easy drive and good store. We’d come back for sure!"

It is the perfect spot to relax and unwind while surrounded by nature. If you are an adventurous explorer or prefer to stay cozy and comfortable at home, this house will fit your needs either way. There are three ensuite bedrooms, each with a king bed, deck access (two of the bedrooms have private decks!), and window seats to sit and enjoy to views. Downstairs in the basement there is an additional bedroom with two twin beds and another full bathroom.

Speaking of the basement, it might be one of the most fun spots in the house. It is home to a bar, a ping pong table, media center, and game table, a comfy window seat, and huge sliders that lead directly into the back yard.

The kitchen comes fully equipped and has gorgeous soapstone counter tops. You can expect to find a kitchen aid, blender, a full set of pots and pans, multiple options for how you want to make your morning brew, plenty of utensils for cooking and more!

Moving outdoors, you will find a spacious deck outside the living room with a gas fire pit that can also be accessed through one of the main floor bedrooms. The other main floor bedroom has a private deck with it's own gas fireplace. Additionally the upstairs master bedroom has it's own private deck too.

The house is located on a private road off of a private road so it is very quiet and there is plenty of space for walking. There is also private access to the Shenandoah river right down the road from the house for those who enjoy the water.

I was very glad to have this small cabin vs. a generic chain hotel in Front Royal, Manassas, or Dulles, allowing me to enjoy the beauty of Northern VA before attending a huge, busy conference in DC. The cabin and its location are clearly more suited for people who are taking advantage of the outdoor activities in the vicinity rather than wine tasting, which was the downside for me--there was coffee and a coffee maker in the cabin, but no coffee (e.g., powdered) creamer, and there really weren't places nearby to buy some, much less get breakfast nor just a cup of coffee to-go. There was plenty of soap, shampoo, bubble bath, towels, etc. Bed was great. Location was quiet and peaceful. I had no issues with my GPS working, but apparently some people do have problems so Sandra makes EXTRA sure you have clear directions prior to arrival. The inside of the cabin is nicer IRL than it appears in the photos."

Please Be Aware: In the Shenandoah National Forest, you may encounter black bears, spotted skunks, snakes, and deer. Occasionally, some may wander near the house, so please do not leave food outside that could attract these animals.

This beautiful eco-friendly home overlooks the Shenandoah Valley and sits at the top of 40 acres at the Rolling River Holiday properties. This home was designed to welcome in the outside and create a wonderful and cheerful home environment from the comfortable indoor/outdoor seating and the gorgeous mountain views!

There are 3 bedrooms, one of the main floor off of the common area and 2 on the second floor, each with their own bathroom and wonderful views of the blue ridge mountains. There is also an additional bathroom on the main floor.

We have a living room, dining room and full kitchen on the main level that open to a welcoming main level deck and fire pit.

On the second floor we have another cozy living room and small kitchen between the 2 second floor bedrooms. The second floor living room also opens out to a second floor deck to enjoy the views from a higher elevation.

The attic is cozy yet spacious and is a great place for a movie night or for the kids to play if they want to take a break from the outdoors! There is also a pull out couch for extra sleeping space. Additionally, there is a laundry room in the attic for guest use as well.

There is private river access within 0.4 miles walking distance of the home and can also be easily accessed if driving. We also offer a few kayaks free of charge on request for the river, and tubes are also available for rent/purchase.

We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the kitchen, and we even cooked dinner together during one night of our stay. The house was a 10-15 min drive from all of the hiking trails, restaurants, and wineries we visited. The hot tub was super fun, but was a bit small for four average-to-small sized people. Overall, we would definitely stay here again next time we visit Shenandoah!"

With a quiet surrounding and spectacular views, Idle Hour at Chester Gap is a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle. Perfect for romantic couples or an entire family. Fully stocked kitchen for home cooked meals including an outdoor grill and deck with outdoor dining table. The back deck also includes a private hot tub. There are three bedrooms each with queen beds. The Master Bath with a Jacuzzi jet tub is attached to the Master Bedroom. The other two bedrooms share a full bath on the hallway. A queen-sized pull out sofa is available in the Office, which can be closed off similar to a fourth bedroom.

Guests have 24-hour access using a smart lock keypad on the front door and will be provided with a personalized code during your stay.

Please note that the fireplace is currently nonfunctional. We are looking at ways to connect gas to the fireplace for your future stays. There is an outdoor fire pit, however!
