The cabin sits at the top of a hill overlooking the lower laying fields and trees and a glimpse of the river, with a gorgeous view of the mountains in the background. - "Loved this place! The views were amazing and the hot tub was a bonus. It was close to Shenandoah and the Caverns. The place is well maintained and clean. It was a perfect getaway for the two of us. If only we had more time to enjoy the hot tub. Hope to be back again!" - "I planned a trip out here with my wife while we had some time off to travel. Everything worked that we used, including the hot tub, oven, stove, and new electric fireplace in the TV room. I read some older reviews before our trip that said some of the appliances didn't work and/or were outdated, we found that everything was in working order as of our trip! (Early Spring 2024) It's a 15-20 minute drive to Luray Caverns, and just past that there is a Wal-Mart where we picked up some groceries for our stay. Several National Parks are also in close proximity. We would definitely stay at The Chalet again, it's a quiet and relaxing place to spend a couple of days."

- "This is the perfect location to get away from screens and get off the grid. Close and easy access to Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, and the Appalachian trail. Andrea was so super helpful and solid with communication!" - "The property was charming and beautiful. The cabin felt very cozy. The kitchen was perfect, I loved all the appliances and it had everything you could need to cook. Pots and pans, dishes and bowls, mixers and utensils. It has it all. The hot tub was wonderful especially in the early morning when it's chilly. Perfect size charcoal grill that we cooked a couple of amazing meals on. The Wi-Fi is a little spotty but all in all worked surprisingly well. My son brought his gaming system and it worked quite well. I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness. We encountered a few things like the refrigerator was dirty inside and also the microwave. The oven hasn't been cleaned in awhile. Silverware, pots and pans were dirty and we found a pair of dirty underwear left in the dresser drawer downstairs. But even with that I would definitely stay there again. It was very relaxing and that was most important."

The area offered lots of activities. We spent our days river tubing, touring Luray caverns and a drive on Park Line Drive complete with a short hike...all within minutes of the house. We really appreciated any questions we had being answered quickly too. It was a pleasure spending time there....and we truly hope to make it back."

Plan to relax away from it all! The cabin is out where you can see all the stars at night. Don't forget your eggs and bacon as it is a 17 mile trip back to Luray, and 7 miles are gravel road. So just plan to stay and chill or not--in the hot tub!

There is now limited WiFi at the Paddler cabin and very limited at the Drifter that is shared by both cabins for checking emails, light browsing but no streaming videos. Hughesnet is just not doing a good job.
Sprint-T-mobile work but other cell phones might not.

The cabin has a queen bed room with a propane stove, the living area has a double bed futon, Direct TV and the mini-kitchen area. The loft has a double bed.
We provide pillows and bedspreads but not Linens and Towels which would be extra at $25/bed/visit but we are not renting them during COVID. You will need to bring your own.
Pets are $15/pet/night.

Below the cabin is a picnic table, fire ring and charcoal grill. Across the 7.5 acre field is the driveway to the river frontage and boat landing (#20). There is a fire pit there too. Great fishing.

The cabin is on 7.5 acres along with three other cabins which share the river frontage/landing (#20). Shenandoah River Outfitters uses this private boat landing. Plan to reserve canoe, kayak, raft and tubes trip with us, Shenandoah River Outfitters, for lots of river fun between April and Nov 1st.

We have a two-night min stay on weekends, one-night min during the week. (3-nights on holiday weekends) We offer special 4-day mid-week rates and week long rates.

Plan a longer stay and explore Luray, Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah National Park--great hiking. Do some shopping and catch dinner before driving back out to the cabin and the hot tub!

ROAD AND VEHICLE: While the cabin is accessible for a normal car, we HIGHLY recommend a higher clearance vehicle like an SUV. Subaru's and RAV4's are common, but many other vehicles are also on the mountain. We offer an SUV (free of charge) to guests who prefer to use it for the final mile to the cabin.

This log style cabin has it all. Whether you just want to get away and relax or celebrate a romantic weekend, Bear Timber’s has it all. House sits on Shenandoah river, has hot tub, fire pit, and canoes. A short walk down to the river from the back porch you will have your own private riverbank. Swim in the river, canoe, fish, and then come back for a relaxing dip in the hot tub or sit out by the fire pit.

The house is fully equipped with pots, pans, dish ware, gas BBQ grill, gas fireplace/stove, TVs, Internet, both a screened and open porch. Washer and dryer on premises along with a dishwasher. I loved sitting outside in the hot tub in the morning with the sun shining through the trees, listening to the birds. There was a mix-up with the description of the property being their other Stepping Ttone property, but the owner is working to resolve it. A waterfall with natural pools is less than a 20 minute hike from the house! Wildlife is commonly seen. And at an elevation of 1,800 feet, even summer is comfortable. Skyline Drive and Luray caverns are close by, and Washington DC is only 90 miles away. Also nearby is the Shendandoah River - one of the most beautiful features of the area. Lots of opportunity for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and floating the river. Luray is less than 10 miles away and Front Royal is also nearby. So even though you'll feel like you're in the wilderness, you're still close to restaurants, quaint shopping and wineries. This is a must see experience!

- "Everything we hoped for , location, night sky peace and quiet" - "Great house, has everything you need! And the view is incredible!" - "We loved our visit to the cabin. The pictures do not do the views justice. We ran into some tough weather this past weekend, so there were no gorgeous sunsets for us. However, we did spend a fair amount of time on the desk just listening to the rain. It is a great place to escape from reality for a few days. The drive-up is tough, and you can do it without 4wd. However, it will most certainly be a bit nerve-racking. However, whatever you do, please don't allow the road up to be a deterrent to this gem of a location."

Cozy cabin on 7.5 acres with 3 other cabins with river frontage on the beautiful Shenandoah. Your hot tub is in a private pavilion just around the corner from the cabin. Great mountain views out in the country with lots of stars. Perfect!

Plan to relax away from it all! The cabin is out where you can see all the stars at night. Don't forget your eggs and bacon as it is a 17 mile trip back to Luray, and 7 miles are gravel road. So just plan to stay and chill or not--in the hot tub!

There is now limited WiFi at the Paddler cabin and very limited at the Drifter and none at the Angler--sorry-- that is shared by both cabins for checking emails, light browsing but no streaming videos. Hughesnet is just not doing a good job. You can walk down to the Paddler and connect but will not make it back up to the Angler.
Sprint-T-mobile work but other cell phones might not.

The cabin has a queen bed room with a propane stove, the living area has a double bed futon, Direct TV and the mini-kitchen area. The loft has a double bed.
We provide pillows and bedspreads but not Linens and Towels which would be extra at $25/bed/visit but we are not renting them during COVID. You will need to bring your own.
Pets are $15/pet/night.

Below the cabin is a picnic table, fire ring and charcoal grill. Across the 7.5 acre field is the driveway to the river frontage and boat landing (#20). There is a fire pit there too. Great fishing.

The cabin is on 7.5 acres along with three other cabins which share the river frontage/landing (#20). Shenandoah River Outfitters uses this private boat landing. Plan to reserve canoe, kayak, raft and tubes trip with us, Shenandoah River Outfitters, for lots of river fun between April and Nov 1st.

We have a two-night min stay on weekends, one-night min during the week. (3-nights on holiday weekends) We offer special 4-day mid-week rates and week long rates.

Plan a longer stay and explore Luray, Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah National Park--great hiking. Do some shopping and catch dinner before driving back out to the cabin and the hot tub!

- "The cabin, private hot tub and location were perfect for our family of 3, including a teenager. The cabin was very clean and included everything we needed. Location was off the beaten path, which we loved, but don't try to find it in the dark if you're not familiar with the area. We visited in early April, which was chilly and likely less crowded, but this would be beautiful in the summer with the close proximity to the river. We spent most of our time hiking in Shenandoah National Park. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you!"

Imagine looking out from the comfortable couch & seeing the most amazing view! This cozy tiny cabin has some of the best views anywhere. It’s just over 600sq ft, but has all the amenities - full kitchen, 2BR & 2 baths, deck, Hot Tub, & wood stove. Lookout Cabin sits on the edge of the Shenandoah National Park, w/wildlife all around. The Shenandoah River is just a short drive and Skyline Drive is only a half an hour away. This is THE cabin for a relaxing or romantic getaway!

- "Originally booked a smaller cabin, but a couple issues arose so the owner hooked us up with a better cabin right down the road. Great views off back deck with a hot tub. Comfy place, pretty much everything we needed" - "Thank you for sharing your cabin we enjoyed our stay!! The sunset views were beautiful!! Items that might be helpful to others: Pros: Amazing sunset views Very private and peaceful and had lights outside. Hot tub ( not a big deal, but wish there was steps/rail to get in and out) Internet and TV worked good Propane grill for cook outs Clean cabin with all your basic needs: microwave, stove, coffee maker, and toaster. Nice to have some cleaning stuff to use! Close to the National Park scenic drive Both bedrooms have their own bathroom which was nice! Cons: Very very rough entrance to get to the cabin with a steep gravel driveway with big rocks sticking out and big holes ( the owner does offer a SUV) You have to park on top of a hill and carry all your stuff to the cabin at the bottom with several steps ( wasn't a big issue to us) Small deck area, but big enough to put the chairs on. Had to bring all your own bedding, but they do offer a service for a fee. Not a big deal, but was the first time we had to bring them and we have stayed at a lot of cabins over the years. Really missed an outside fire pit it was the first cabin we stayed at without one, wish they would clear out some of the brush around the backyard area and make room for one. There was a very small wood burner inside, but we didn't use it. Beware on your hikes and walks my dog ended up with 5 ticks so make sure you spay yourself and check your pets. Hope this was helpful review to others."

Our large log cabin has all the comforts of home, nestled away in the Shenandoah mountains, just steps from the Shenandoah River. River Lodge is packed with amenities and fun for couples, families or groups of friends – and is the perfect home base for your getaway!

(Note: you’ll be renting the downstairs portion of the cabin that is accessed through the double doors at the top of the three steps in front of the house. The cabin is huge – and the upper portion of the cabin is not yet finished. Please do not walk up to the upper portion from the back or the front, or use the upper deck.)

But the best part about the cabin is its location: River Lodge is located directly on a 1,200 foot section of the Shenandoah River. When it’s warm, it’s perfect for swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. We have canoes, kayaks, and tubes for you to use too! There’s also great fishing (we’ve caught bass and channel catfish). And at night, we love dozing off listening to the sound of the river rushing by.

Note: River Lodge is part of a large private retreat, with three other small cabins on the property – about 150 feet away from River Lodge. You will likely see guests at the other cabins, and they may also be enjoying the river (and kayaks/canoes/tubes) during your stay. That said, the property is very large – so you should easily be able to find a quiet spot on the river to call your own. And of course you’ll have your own personal hot tub and, fire pit. The cabin has an EV (Electronic Vehicle) charger that you may use during your stay. There is an additional charge of $15 per stay. Please let us know if you would like to add this to your stay.

Our cleaning team sweeps the deck, stairs, and walkways before each arrival, but due to the natural setting, you may still notice some leaves, pollen, or similar—especially during certain seasons. We appreciate your understanding as nature tends to leave its mark, no matter how often we tidy up!

(By the way, the other three cabins sleep 2 people each – so if you’re looking to book a stay with a larger group, please contact us. Between River Lodge and the other two cabins, we can accommodate up to 11 people on the entire property.)

Lastly, beyond the cabin itself, we love how close we are to downtown Luray and the famous Luray Caverns – both just a 10 minute drive away. Beyond the caves (which we recommend you definitely check out), the town has fantastic breweries, restaurants, and shops for you to enjoy! Time on the deck would have been much better if there were a couple of chaise lounge chairs to relax and soak up the sun. Also, it was understood to bring your own sheets/towels but with no access to a washer/dryer on the property i was stuck with unwashed dollar general sheets/towels. Other than that a very fun property...from driving up there to walking to see if the waterfall was flowing. A definite fun adventure!"

And at an elevation of 2,000 feet, even summer is comfortable. Skyline Drive and Luray caverns are close by, and Washington DC is only 90 miles away. Also nearby is the Shendandoah River - one of the most beautiful aspects of the area. Lots of opportunity for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and floating the river. Luray is less than 10 miles away and Front Royal is also nearby, so restaurants, quaint shopping and wineries are all nearby. This is a must see experience!

The Space:
Our modern, beautifully-designed tiny cabin has all the comforts of home, just nestled away in the Shenandoah mountains. River Side (also known as Turkey Run) is packed with amenities and fun for couples or a special personal retreat – and is the perfect home base for your getaway!

The best part about the cabin is its location: River Side boasts views of the Shenandoah River from the deck, and is within walking distance to public river access (about 300 feet from the property). When it’s warm, it’s perfect for swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. There’s also great fishing (we’ve caught bass and channel catfish). And at night, we love dozing off listening to the sound of the river rushing by. If you would like to access the river from your cabin, the public access is located at the bottom of Carvell Road. From your parking spot at the cabin, walk to the property entrance and 300 feet down Carvell road to get to the public river access.

Beyond the cabin itself, we love how close we are to downtown Luray and the famous Luray Caverns – both just a 10-minute drive away. Beyond the caverns (which we recommend you definitely check out), the town has fantastic breweries, restaurants, and shops for you to enjoy! And of course, you’re also just minutes from Shenandoah National Park – with amazing hiking trails and views!

That said, the property is very large – so you should easily be able to find a quiet spot on the river to call your own. And of course you’ll have your own personal hot tub, and fire pit.

Our cleaning team sweeps the deck, stairs, and walkways before each arrival, but due to the natural setting, you may still notice some leaves, pollen, or similar—especially during certain seasons. We appreciate your understanding as nature tends to leave its mark, no matter how often we tidy up!
