- "Originally went for two days with a friend intending to explore the Valley. Finding the lodge was easy even at night and the directions provided were on point. Due to a check-in date mix up the owner offered an extra night to us at no extra cost. The conversation with the owner was very friendly and I really appreciate the friendliness. What made the stay (including the extra day) worth it was the coziness of the lodge, the amenities (centralized cooling a big plus), the closeness to the valley, caverns and outdoor activities. We went kayak (which was not originally in the plans) only because we saw the place while driving to the lodge. Found some really good eating spots just a few mins drive which in my opinion is a big plus."

The Drive
The one mile dirt road to get to our cabin is not state owned. It’s not steep, but it is full of potholes. Slow and steady will get you to the cabin. You do not need a truck or 4 wheel drive. HOWEVER- months where snow is in the forecast will require 4 wheel drive, as we do not know when or if someone will be able to plow. Parking is unlimited.

Most importantly, no cameras are placed inside the house, underscoring our strong commitment to prioritizing both your safety and privacy.

• Sit and Stare- The Mountain View is ever changing with the
weather and seasons. It is always a good time to sit and stare. We
do not have water access, but we have a great view of the
Shenandoah River in late fall and winter. You can hear the water
flowing from the cabin.
• Fire pit with wood provided- Nothing like a good Kumbaya at the
end of a perfect day.
• Wine- Lots of wineries within 30-40 minutes of the cabin.
• Beer- Some breweries are in the area and more are popping up
yearly.
• Hike / Bike- Skyline drive, Shenandoah State Park and Andy Guest
State Park are short drives away.
• Dinosaurs- Dinosaur Land. A silly destination for the young dino
fan.

Whiskey Hill Cabin is based on a classic design from the 1960’s which makes it a unique place to enjoy your vacation! The cabin is a fully renovated chalet style cabin with many modern updates. Some of the updates include a new fireplace wood stove for guest use, pine and cedar ceilings, a new bathroom and honed granite countertops. All of these updates to this classic cabin help make your vacation more relaxing and enjoyable.

There are 2 bedrooms and a large loft bedroom (queen beds in each).
The cabin has a large deck that is perfect for enjoying the nature of the mountain. Since the cabin was designed in the 1960’s the interior steps were not designed with today’s standards, but we love the classic design so we decided to keep it original. We ask that you please keep in mind that the interior loft stairs are not suitable for children. We appreciate your understanding.

The cabin is in Virginia wine country. It is close to 10+ Virginia wineries including Fox Meadow Winery (3.4 mi) and Crimson Lane Vineyards (7.9 mi), Skyline drive and the Appalachian Trail (GR Thompson State Wildlife Management area is about 5 minutes away; famous for trillium flowers). Enjoy the areas many activities including: hiking, canoeing, horse back riding, wine tasting and the natural surroundings.

The cabin is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is set on a private wooded mountain lot with winter views of the Shenandoah Valley and mountain ranges. - "A little buggy in the area and house, but that’s nature, right?! Besides that, beautiful place, can’t wait to come back!" - "The house was absolutely stunning - very clean, well decorated, comfortable and cozy, with every amenity you can imagine. The views from the porch were so beautiful and we loved watching the sunset. Service was patchy near the house (in the house the wifi was perfect) so I recommend loading up the map to make sure you know where you’re going towards the end. Host was very responsive and accommodating. We tubed the river and went to Bear Chase Brewing and loved both activities! Went into Front Royal for groceries vs the close small shop (recommend this if you need full cooking groceries) but it was an easy drive and good store. We’d come back for sure!"

The cabin and its location are clearly more suited for people who are taking advantage of the outdoor activities in the vicinity rather than wine tasting, which was the downside for me--there was coffee and a coffee maker in the cabin, but no coffee (e.g., powdered) creamer, and there really weren't places nearby to buy some, much less get breakfast nor just a cup of coffee to-go. There was plenty of soap, shampoo, bubble bath, towels, etc. Bed was great. Location was quiet and peaceful. I had no issues with my GPS working, but apparently some people do have problems so Sandra makes EXTRA sure you have clear directions prior to arrival. The inside of the cabin is nicer IRL than it appears in the photos."

The kitchen was more than adequately equipped for meal preps and food storage. The 2 baths were well equipped as were the sleeping areas. - "A little different with the main bedroom upstairs, the only bathroom on the lower level. But, overall. Excellent!" - "This was an older but well kept A frame cabin that was perfect for a little weekend getaway for my family of 5. The kitchen was adequately stocked for our needs, the location/ view/ deck was gorgeous, and the beds were firm but comfy. We stayed during an extremely cold weekend (single digits at night). The heating unit upstairs still kept that space very well heated, the wood stove struggled a bit to keep the main space warm (especially since we could only have that going while we were in the house, I would add that the fire is a necessity not a luxury during the colder days of winter), but the back two bedrooms were more difficult to heat. I had my kids in thermals and grabbed their sleeping bags just in case so they were fine, but it definitely gave them a little more of a camping vibe than we were expecting. Unfortunately we realized late in the afternoon that the hot tub wasn't heating, and while the response from the owner was prompt and helpful once we noticed the problem, we weren't able to use that fun amenity. We built a fire in the fire ring and made s'mores as the sun set instead- the outdoor space has a lot to offer. Overall it was just what we needed to help change up the monotony of a cold January and we had a great time!"

- "My husband and our friends had an amazing stay at this cute little cabin. The house was clean and fairly spacious, and the beds were comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the kitchen, and we even cooked dinner together during one night of our stay. The house was a 10-15 min drive from all of the hiking trails, restaurants, and wineries we visited. The hot tub was super fun, but was a bit small for four average-to-small sized people. Overall, we would definitely stay here again next time we visit Shenandoah!"

Most of the drive to the cabin is paved, with the final short stretch and driveway consisting of well-packed gravel. For most of the year, standard 2WD vehicles can access the property without issue. During winter weather, 4WD or AWD may be recommended. We’ll notify you in advance if icy or snowy conditions are expected and share updated access guidance.

The cabin offers high-speed WiFi suitable for streaming, remote work, and video calls. Please note that cell service may be limited in the mountains—connecting to WiFi ensures reliable communication.

- "I know this is a long review and this is the first time I have reviewed a rental but I was so impressed. Peaceful, surprisingly roomy, loved there are so many areas to relax in small groups. We like to gather together and there is room for that ,but sometimes it is so nice to split in groups. You could sit in the beautiful screen porch, living room, loft, awesome downstairs with plenty of seating, beautiful lighted fireplace was a hit, giant tv, for the younger set to game or watch movies, then the hot tub with a nice view. My grandaughter is in culinary school and I am quite the chef. Because of the discription of the kichen we planned our meals packed our food and crossed our fingers it was really true.We had 3 generations cooking together in the lovely kitchen with awesome high quality pans etc. I cant even list them all. We loved the glass trays we used for charcuterie and nice dinnerware set for meals. If I knew there was a vitamix there I would have done some planning and used it.. We are big coffee people. they have a coffee press, k cup, and a drip maker there. Kitchenaid mixer. Nice set of wineglsses. great bbq. All the beds were very very comfortable. It’s common to see deer, rabbits, and even a pair of local box turtles in the garden beds. While the home is carefully maintained, occasional insects or small critters may appear—just let us know if anything seems out of the ordinary. Our cabin is located in the Shenandoah Farms community in Front Royal, VA - the vibrant and active community is composed of full time residences, second homes, and vacation rentals.

A vehicle is required for getting around the neighborhood and surrounding area attractions, restaurants, and other designations. Please note that while the property can be accessed via entirely paved roads, 4WD or AWD may be recommended or required during wintery weather.

PETS
We love hosting your furry companions and welcome up to two dogs. Please include them in your reservation and a pet fee will automatically be included in your reservation total. Additional dogs may be considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to additional fees to compensate for potential extra wear and tear at the property and additional cleaning regimens that we undertake. Note that emotional support animals (ESAs) are designated as pets and subject to these fees and other pet policies. Service animals are always welcome, but please let us know about them in advance so we can let our cleaning team know.

FAMILY FRIENDLY AMENITIES
We offer a pack n` play crib, full-sized freestanding highchair, and children`s dishes for families traveling with young ones.

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
The property can be accessed via entirely paved roads; however the driveway has a decent incline and is gravel. Most of the year, 2WD vehicles can access the property without issue. However, during snow or icy conditions, 4WD or AWD may be recommended or required. We will notify you in advance if winter or severe weather is expected, offering guidance on safe access. Full refunds are typically only provided if the property is inaccessible for more than 24 hours by 4WD or AWD vehicles.

GUEST SAFETY & WELLNESS
Your safety and well-being are our top priority. All bedding, including sheets, quilts, and blankets, is washed between reservations. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed in all bedrooms, and fire extinguishers are available throughout the property.

The area is surrounded by wildlife - you will regularly see deer and may even sneak a peak at a black bear hanging out on the mountain. While the house rarely houses critters of its own, the occasional bug or tiny creature may make a visit! Just let us know if anything is out of the ordinary.

UPDATES & EXTERIOR PROPERTY MAINTENANCE We occasionally make updates to the property in an effort to add new amenities and ensure that we always offer safe and comfortable accommodations. As a result, furniture may occasionally differ from what is featured. During your stay, our landscaping and/or hot tub care team may service the property - we usually give you advance notice and these teams do not need to access the inside of the property (with the exception of the garage to access a mower or supplies).
