My little cabin is at the end of the resort (Black Bear), and is quiet and private, backing up to a horsefarm. It has the best view of all the resort across the Canaan Valley, Timberline Four Seasons Resort,White Grass, and on to the Dolly Sods. Close to skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, antiquing, and live music!

All new appliances. It was not a smart tv as advertised and, probably due to the storm, the satellite signal was in and out. Oh well, didn't come to watch tv. Blackwater Falls was amazing covered in snow and ice. Stumptown Ales has some of the best beer I've had. Really wish I could've brought some home. Most definitely a great trip and place to stay. "

Our home is the perfect place for couples, families and even a couple of families (sleeps 6!). With an outside deck, grill and view, it’s a perfect for grillin’ and chillin’.

On colder nights, especially in the winter time, the cozy living room is a perfect place to have a fire and watch a flick on the flat screen. (Don’t worry about having to truck in firewood in the back of your car…we have an ample supply ready and waiting for you!)

Kids (and maybe even the adults) will enjoy the loft with 2 bunk beds - a perfect place for a slumber party. Equipped with TV, VCR and video games, they may just never come down!

And if work calls…or you need a few days of ‘tele-commuting’, the wifi and Internet access are a bonus. Come and stay, work or play, we are sure you’ll love our house as much as we do!

Our cabin at Black Bear Resort is the perfect place for weekend getaways, family vacations and family reunions. Come and enjoy the great amenities that Black Bear Resort offers. Or venture further afield and enjoy the wealth of natural resources and diverse outdoor recreational options: Blackwater Falls, your choice of two great ski areas: Timberline Ski Resort or Canaan Valley State Park; Seneca Rocks or the Monongahela National Forest. From Black Bear you are only an hour’s drive from world famous Seneca Rocks and the two awesome caverns, Seneca and Smoke Hole. In nearby Elkins, ride the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad excursion train.

Close by, the small communities of Davis and historic Thomas, WV offer some great eats. We have the house stocked with a listing of our favorites from which you may choose.

Spring: February through June heralds the best fly fishing in the Potomac Highlands. Late spring is our favorite time for bird and wildlife watching and photography.

Summer: In Canaan Valley, cool mountain temperatures make Canaan Valley and the surrounding area the perfect summer retreat. Hikers and mountain bikers gravitate to the west banks of the Blackwater River for the 10+ mile stint between Thomas and Hendricks and the sensational views of Blackwater Canyon.

Fall: The mountains (and valley) blaze in mid-to-late September. Beech, oak, cherry, maple and aspen take on hues of reds, golds, oranges and browns, accented by the dark-green background of evergreens.

Winter: Winter brings another world of its own where the Canaan Valley turns into a Winter Wonderland with great skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and sledding/tubing from a choice of over 76 slopes and trails, seven lifts, a terrain and tubing park at two of the best West Virginia ski resorts: Canaan Valley Resort State Park and Timberline Four Seasons Resort.

West Virginia…so far, but yet so close…Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. Our cozy cabin at Black Bear Resort (BBR) is surrounded by Federal Wilderness land! Extensively remodeled Brookside Chalet in 2023 is the ultimate ski location with a short walk in your boots to the ski lifts. A great vacation location year round with winter sports as well as beautiful ,cool, summer days for golfing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, and so much more. The Majestic cabin, one of eight cabins at the Golden Anchor Cabins is designed specifically for a romantic getaway for two.

The Majestic is a couples-only luxury honeymoon cabin located at the very top of our property and offers THE BEST view we have to offer. This one king-sized bedroom cabin has a beautiful bathroom with heated tile floors, a heated towel rack and a shower for two with body sprays. Upstairs is a picturesque game loft with a pool table, 60 vintage arcade game cocktail table, and a checkerboard high top table. This cabin is located just two miles south of Canaan Valley Resort and twelve miles south of Blackwater Falls State Park on WV Route 32. We are approximately four miles south of Timberline Mountain (downhill skiing, chair lift rides), and White Grass Cross Country Skiing. This space is the loft area in a 40-year-old log cabin. It is a private bedroom with a private bathroom. There is one queen and two twin beds. You enter through the main house, but there is a locked door to the room. It is a shared home, and my son and I live downstairs. We have a cat named Seneca.

We are located 3 miles from Davis and 8 miles from White Grass X-Country ski area.
It is easily accessible even in the winter.

The space
Dromore is a throwback to the original Airbnb. We had a huge unused loft and created a welcoming space for guests in our home. It is, however, it is quite private, so you feel very separate from the rest of the home. This is a log cabin on 1.5 acres, and we have a long front porch and a backyard with a fire ring. Our home is in a quiet neighborhood across the street from the National Forest. The rental area consists of a single large room with three beds and a private bathroom. It is in the loft area.
My son and I use the main downstairs space. You enter through the main front door but go up the stairs to the loft. The room has a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, and fresh towels. I also provide utensils, bowls, and small plates.
You are welcome to enjoy the porch to drink your coffee or have an evening beverage.

The house is fairly sound-permeable, so you may hear our muffled voices. We also hear muffled sounds from upstairs. The room has access to WiFi but no television.

Guest access
The entire loft area is open to guests. You do not need a key to enter the house but a key to your room will be provided on check-in.
The rest of the house is not open to guests but we are happy to accommodate requests to use our kitchen. I would love to chat with anyone while we are home. Feel free to use the porch to relax. You can leave your bike around back or put it in the shed. Skis are fine on the porch or even inside by the front door.
In the winter I like people to take their shoes off before going upstairs.

If you need help with anything and I am not at home, I will leave my cell phone number for you to contact me. I am happy to chat and help answer questions about the area or provide suggestions on where to go and what to do.

The space
Our small, cozy cabin is a great place to relax and enjoy the mountains of WV!

It is the perfect size for a family with young children, or a couple, as it has a single bathroom and fully stocked kitchen.

Our cabin is located on a grass open space with other small cabins. Most of our guests don't mind the location, but please message us if you have questions or concerns prior to booking.

The cabin includes: a kitchen/dining room with all cookware and dishes; living room with fireplace (and firewood), flatscreen TV, DVD player, and HDMI access (feel free to bring your streaming device!); large bathroom with a double jacuzzi tub; washer and dryer; master bedroom with a queen bed; and a loft accessible by a spiral stair (note the spiral stair is narrow and those with mobility issues may have difficulty accessing) with two sets of bunk beds (4 twin beds), flatscreen TV and DVD player.

The community includes an outdoor stocked catch-and-release fishing pond, playground, grass volleyball court, walking trails, and fire pit.

Although summers tend to be cool in the Valley, we have a portable air conditioner that cools the living/kitchen/dining area. The loft is open to the living room below, and has a ceiling fan for comfort. Portable fans are provided for additional comfort in the bedroom and loft. Baseboard heating is used in the cooler months.

Please note that we do have an outdoor grill and picnic table on our small deck.

**The cabin has an updated loft and bedroom with fresh paint and new carpet, as well as, brand-new mattresses and updated linens and pillows.

Other things to note
1. CELL PHONE service in the valley can be spotty and some carriers have better services than others. There are areas in WV where you might not have cell phone service at all, including at our cabin.

2. CABIN WIFI is slower than most people are used to. We can typically stream video on one or two devices. Occasionally, there are internet outages. Do not plan your stay under the assumption that internet service is guaranteed.

3. We operate as an independent rental in a resort community. Understand that other guests in the community may be owners, or renters through other rental agencies. Everyone has a different standard for check-in, trash collection, etc.

Guests are to follow guidelines related to the cabin as distributed by us ONLY. Guests will follow guidelines for community spaces (fire pits, putt-putt, playground, etc) as dictated by the community regulations.

Other things to note
This is a dog friendly Cabin. If you have extreme sensitivity to dog dander this is probably not the cabin for you. We do our best to clean all traces of the previous 4-legged inhabitants, but you may occasionally find a dog hair on the couch. If this bothers you again, this might not be the cabin for you.

There is a switch inside the bedroom closet that operates the lights on the back stairs and driveway.

There is a Roku for your convenience. You will need to log into your own accounts should you wish to access streaming services. The TV is small. The cabin is small. We have no desire to put a larger TV in the cabin. If you desire a cabin with a home theatre set up, this is probably not the best choice for you.
Upstairs TV has built in VHS player that works occasionally. It is more of an antique than an amenity. The DVD player works but you need to plug it in and be sure it's connected.

Please note: The heater in the bathroom (covered by picture and bench) is part of the original construction. It has been disconnected in all Black Bear units as it was found to be a fire hazard.
There is no AC in this cabin as the temperatures in the mountains are significantly cooler. The average daytime temp in summer is 75 degrees and average low is 51 degrees. We have had fires in our fireplace in August because the temp hit below 50 degrees. There are plenty of fans and an overhead fan in the loft.

The space
Inside our cabin you will find a comfortable kitchen and living area with a flat screen tv (with Roku built in), blu-ray/dvd player (with a selection of movies), cable tv, fireplace (with plenty of wood to burn already at the cabin). One queen bed is located on the main level, twin bunk beds and a double bed are located in the loft area, and a double bed in the lower level that has a door leading to the deck that views the wildlife refuge. Loft and lower level are both accessed by a spiral staircase. In the loft you will also find another flat screen tv with cable connection and an xbox 360 with games for your enjoyment. To help entertain families, kids and friends we have board games and coloring books too!

In the kitchen there is a refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, and on the deck is a gas grill for those that love to cook outdoors. For the days that you do not want to prepare your meal at the cabin you can venture to the historic towns of Davis (4.5 miles) or Thomas (7.3 miles) and try out one of their delicious restaurants or breweries.

The area is a 4 seasons destination, from skiing; both downhill and cross country, sledding the longest run on the East coast, hiking, visiting State Parks and National Forests, white water rafting and tubing, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails. The Pickled Bear is located minutes from the quaint mountain towns, Davis and Thomas, which have amazing restaurants and unique shopping.

Whether you're in the area for skiing, hiking, mountain biking or shear relaxation, Black Bear 55 has just what you need for your next mountain escape. The Majestic cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway for two. Completely remodeled in 2018, Majestic cabin has a king size bed, hot tub, gas fireplace, shower for two, a full kitchen and a game room in the loft!

Majestic sits at the very top of our property and offers the BEST view we have to offer. This log cabin is a cozy 960 sqft and completely remodeled in 2018, our Majestic cabin is designed specifically for a romantic getaway for two. The living room centers around a leather couch by a gas log fire place and entertainment center. Prepare a gourmet dinner on granite counter tops in the full kitchen. Enjoy a starry night in the huge outdoor hot tub sitting on Majestic's private deck. The spacious bedroom has a king sized bed. We include all linens and pillows in the bedroom along with robes in the closet. The bathroom is filled with luxurious touches from a heated towel rack and heated tile floor to a tile shower for two with body sprays. Enjoy a game of pool and play the 60 retro multi-cade cocktail table in the cabin's game loft! We are 5 minutes from skiing at Timberline Resort, Canaan Valley State Park and Whitegrass. At Golden Anchor Cabins we have 8 honeymoon cabins to choose from. This cabin, Serenity, is the largest honeymoon, game room cabin we have. It is perfect for a honeymoon or romantic getaway in the West Virginia mountains. The bathroom has heated tile flooring, a heated towel rack and a walk-in tile shower for two with body sprays. The open loft's game room includes a 4x8 pool table and hockey arcade. A Jacuzzi hot tub sits on a private deck ready for your enjoyment!

Serenity cabin is located at the top of our property and offers a wonderful view of Mount Porte Crayon and The Dolly Sods Wilderness Area. The cabin is complete with a king size bed, central heat and A/C, a gas log fireplace, a laundry room and a fully stocked kitchen with granite counter tops.

All our cabins have luxurious bed linens and stocked with lots of fluffy towels. This cabin has it's own free Wi-Fi so you can keep in touch with your loved ones.

Serenity is a short drive from skiing at Timberline Resort, Canaan Valley State Park and Whitegrass Cross Country Ski Resort.

We love our place in the mountains. It is great for skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, or just relaxing. We bring our kids: 19, 12 and 6 yrs old. They love it all. We also have high chairs, pack-n-play in the event that you have little ones.

The space
Our home is the perfect place for couples, families and even a couple of families (sleeps 6). With an outside deck, grill and view, it’s a perfect for grillin’ and chillin’.

On colder nights, especially in the winter time, the cozy living room is a perfect place to have a fire and watch a flick on the flat screen. (Don’t worry about having to truck in firewood in the back of your car…we have an ample supply ready and waiting for you!)

Kids (and maybe even the adults) will enjoy the loft with 2 bunk beds - a perfect place for a slumber party. Equipped with TV, VCR and video games, they may just never come down!

And if work calls…or you need a few days of ‘tele-commuting’, the wifi and Internet access are a bonus. Come and stay, work or play, we are sure you’ll love our house as much as we do!

Our cabin at Black Bear Resort is the perfect place for weekend getaways, family vacations and family reunions. From Black Bear you are only an hour’s drive from world famous Seneca Rocks and two awesome caverns, Seneca and Smoke Hole. In nearby Elkins, ride the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad excursion train.

Close by, the small communities of Davis and historic Thomas, WV offer some great eats. We have the house stocked with a listing of our favorites from which you may choose.

Spring: February through June heralds the best fly fishing in the Potomac Highlands. Late spring is our favorite time for bird and wildlife watching and photography.

Summer: In Canaan Valley, cool mountain temperatures make Canaan Valley and the surrounding area the perfect summer retreat. Hikers and mountain bikers gravitate to the west banks of the Blackwater River for the 10+ mile stint between Thomas and Hendricks and the sensational views of Blackwater Canyon.

Fall: The mountains (and valley) blaze in mid-to-late September. Beech, oak, cherry, maple and aspen take on hues of reds, golds, oranges and browns, accented by the dark-green background of evergreens.

Winter: Winter brings another world of its own where the Canaan Valley turns into a Winter Wonderland with great skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and sledding/tubing from a choice of over 76 slopes and trails, seven lifts, a terrain and tubing park at two of the best West Virginia ski resorts: Canaan Valley Resort State Park and Timberline Four Seasons Resort.

West Virginia…so far, but yet so close…Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. Our cozy cabin at Black Bear Resort (BBR) is surrounded by Federal Wilderness land!

Our modest cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and is perfect for a small family or romantic getaway. Tucked in the woods on a private 2-acre lot, you can enjoy watching the wildlife from our front porch or relax indoors after a day of exploring the area. There is a full kitchen to prepare your meals or to eat take out from one of the many incredible local restaurants. The home also features WiFi and Smart TVs in the living room and bedrooms to keep you connected when you want to be.

The Mountainside Cottage is conveniently located in the Old Timberline Community: a private, gated community that features 2 lakes, seemingly endless walking trails, and private access to Dolly Sods Wilderness. It is also only 2 miles from Timberline Ski Resort, 6.5 miles from Canaan Ski Slopes and Golf Course, and less than 15 miles from the quaint communities of Davis and Thomas, home to the beautiful Blackwater Falls.

Other things to note: you will need AWD or chains to access the property during the winter months. The roads are very well maintained but Canaan Valley averages 150” of snowfall annually, so be prepared. The driveway to the house is flat, which makes getting in and out much easier! The house is also pet friendly with no size restrictions or additional fees. We have 2 Newfoundland dogs and understand the love for big pups, we just ask that they be potty trained and stay off the furniture

Our Meadow cabin is the perfect place to celebrate a honeymoon, anniversary or just a romantic getaway.

All of our cabins have central heat and air in addition to the gas log fireplace, a full kitchen and a charcoal grill on a covered deck.

We are look forward to offering the best of what we have heard folks want. All bedrooms have Smart TV's, and new linens / mattresses / box springs as of 2021-2022. The kitchen has new counter tops, and new tile backsplash, there is also a newly tiled shower. The kitchen is fully stocked for group cooking needs, and has a new easy to clean LVT wood appearance floor. We installed a new hot tub and firepit area in July 2021. The newly upgraded gas fireplace is ready to roll and provide a lovely central space for your group. Keeping everything clean and minimal so there is space to enjoy your trip has been our goal from the beginning, and it has been well received!

For Spring / Summer / Autumn guests, we have a great deck area for entertaining, cooking and eating, and the hot tub and fire pit are right in the mix. We are walking distance to Timberline Mountain and a short drive to Canaan Valley Resort so you can easily tap into their events schedule. You are able to hike into the Dolly Sods, play tennis, fish, golf, and enjoy the outdoors without ever driving more than 3 minutes. You are a short walk away from The Owl Market which boasts wonderful pastries and coffee as well as a beer and wine selection and ice cream service. A short scenic drive and you can enjoy the little towns of Davis and Thomas, as well as Black Water Falls.

For winter guests, we are located at the base of the mountain, so while you are walking distance to the lodge and lifts, you do not need 4WD to access our property! This is a great bonus in bad weather when the steep roads around Timberline Mountain can make access difficult. We are less than 1000 feet from the lift (0.17 miles) We are local home owners, and live and work at Timberline Mountain. We are available for all of your questions and needs should anything arise during your stay.

The average temperature in the Canaan Valley area in July and August, is 79 during the day and 59 at night. Due to the relatively cool temperatures here in the mountains most of our homes do not come equipped with air-conditioning.  A majority of our homes have ceiling fans in almost every room and there is generally a constant breeze here. However we recommend you bring portable fans if you feel the ceiling fans won’t provide enough air circulation for you. If the home has air conditioning is will be listed in the guest access/amenities.

The space
From the front porch, watch the sun rise over Dolly Sods and day break over Canaan Valley. In the evening, the sunset glows through the trees below, before dark skies beckon you to stargaze. Relax on the porch swing and watch for deer and wild turkeys, or enjoy yoga on the private back deck - a mat is available for your use. Once the leaves have fallen for the season, enjoy the view of Timberline Mountain ski slopes from the front windows. The serene community, bordered by the Dolly Sods Wilderness and Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, contains two large lakes for fishing and several trails through meadows and woodlands with abundant wildlife.

The three bedrooms are spacious and offer different sleeping configurations to fit your group. Kids can have a slumber party in the big bedroom featuring a queen bed, two twins, and trundle. A second large bedroom upstairs features a king bed, and a twin bed, TV, and views of sunsets in the valley. Adults will appreciate black-out curtains in every bedroom, a thoughtfully stocked kitchen, wifi, cable/Roku, and a first-floor primary bedroom with king bed, desk and an en suite bath with walk-in shower. Heating and cooling: While air conditioning is rarely needed, the central a/c services first floor, and upstairs have portable units we install by June and remove by the first weekend of September. For winter, upstairs rooms use baseboard heat.
In winter: 4 Wheel Drive required from October 15-April 1st. Snow will be plowed anytime 3 inches or more of snow falls. Ice melt and snow shovel are on porch in case of blowing snow. Parking is limited to three vehicles to facilitate snow removal (please let us know if you need an exception - we're happy to work with you).
Supplies: We provide starter supplies of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and dishwasher/laundry detergent but please plan to bring those and other items you might during your stay.

The space
This 2 story mountain cabin, on 2.5 private acres, was built in 1986 and has been a vacation rental for decades, with hundreds of glowing reviews on other platforms. We’re new to Airbnb. The property is maintained by Best of Canaan, and they are available for any maintenance needed.

It is our family’s favorite place to be in the winter, and we offer it up to guests March through early December, so you and your family can enjoy too. We are stocked with nearly everything you need in the kitchen, blankets, books, games, duplo blocks, and other toys for rainy or just chill hang out days. Basic cable channels and WIFI provided.

Our cabin is located “behind the gate”, which means it’s inside the Old Timberline community, adjacent to the Timberline Ski Resort. Our community is only accessible to owners and guests, and therefore upon booking we will collect information about the # of cars, make/model, to ensure you are able to enter through our Security Gate with proper authorization.
Our community consists of 2677 acres in the center of Canaan Valley and the uplands of Cabin Mountain. We are bounded on the East by the Dolly Sods Wilderness, on the North by the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and on the South and West by the Blackwater River. Our neighborhood is officially a wildlife sanctuary. Hunting is strictly prohibited and so is feeding of wildlife.

The center of our community is a 500 acres common conservancy containing two large lakes (each with walking trails and fishing spots). Located on one of them is our 2 person fishing kayak - please ask us for details and discuss bringing life jackets please.

Our conservancy is crisscrossed by a series of walking trails which provide access both to the valley floor, to the Refuge, and directly into Dolly Sods Wilderness (Valley View Trailhead). We are frequented by deer, bear, beaver, wild turkeys, fox, coyotes, bald eagles and many other species of both animals and plants native to this area. In June enjoy the mountain laurel and rhododendron blooms, and in July the yummy wild blueberries.

There are 23 miles of private gravel roads. A gatehouse and security staff assure twenty four hour, seven day a week. To access our mountainside cabin, and to reach the top of the ridge, we highly recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle. In any ice or inclimate weather this is an absolute must!!! We do sometimes get snow as early as November and sometimes into April and rarely a day in May, but it happens!!!

We do not have, nor need, air conditioning, but there are ceiling fans and screened windows in all bedrooms.

The house does have a steep driveway, and a few steps up to the back deck, so for people who have accessibility concerns, please be aware. The first floor bedroom is a queen room and has en-suite bathroom.

About a week before your booking begins, we will send you a form to complete about the vehicle(s) you will be driving - this is REQUIRED so that we can ensure your gain authorization to our gated community. No admittance will be granted to any guest/car not pre-registered through this process.

The whole house and property is yours to enjoy. We do keep a locked owners closet, and we ask that you respect that lock.

Other things to note
The area is full of 4 season activities to enjoy, please tell me what you and your family are interested in, and I can give you some trip planning advice. Our community has two private lakes, plus a trout pond. You can fish in both lakes, but no swimming. One lake has a 3/4 mile walking trail, and the other a 4 mile.

Nearby is Canaan Valley Resort (golf, swimming, tennis, hiking, bike rentals, scenic chair lifts, and restaurants). Explore the mountain towns of Davis and Thomas, where food and drinks are excellent, souvenir or artwork shopping can be fun, and ice cream in the summer is the best. Mountain bike rentals in Davis. Visit Blackwater Falls State Park, pick out a hike in the Dolly Sods Wilderness, Otter Creek Wilderness, or the Roaring Plains Wilderness. Sunsets from the Valley View Trail overlook in our community are amazing, and even quite lovely from our back deck (obscured when leaves on the trees). Weather is unique in the Valley, so even in the summer be prepared for chilly mornings, and not always well-forecasted weather conditions. Many articles describe the unique flora in the highlands (4800 feet above sea level) as looking and feeling like Canada. We offer a boot dryer for those soggy hike days.

The cleaning fee is for full house cleaning, inclusive of linen service and hot tub fees.

All appliances are updated including a gas stove top and Bosch ultra quiet dishwasher. The open floor plan with vaulted ceilings includes a large kitchen fully open to the dining and living rooms. The large dining table seats 8 with room at the counter for additional people.

Den/4th Bedroom

Off the living room is a den/family room with its own wood stove 🔥, TV 📺, a set of twin bunk beds, a queen size sleeper sofa, and an attached half-bathroom 🚽. This is a great space for teens or a family to stay as it has a door creating a private separate bedroom. There are plenty of games and puzzles for guests to enjoy.

Gated Neighborhood

We are located in the mountainside portion of the gated Old Timberline neighborhood, just 1.5 miles from Timberline Mountain ski area ⛷and 1 mile to the HOA’s private Dolly Sods Wilderness area 🥾 access.

Basic Rules
No smoking or vaping on the property including outside areas. No pets of any size or type. Primary guest must be 25 years old or older and must be on the premises whenever the home occupied. No parties permitted without prior permission.

This is a gated community so all cars must be registered (driver, car type, arrival/departure date) to access the property. 4-wheel drive, AWD or chains are REQUIRED to access this property from November 1 - April 1, but snow is almost always possible!

Other things to note
The house is 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. There is also a den with a 55” TV and Roku player, queen sleeper sofa, twin bunk beds, and a privacy door that you can treat as a bedroom. There is no TV in the great room (on purpose) but we think guests should know in advance. We have a security camera on our garage facing the driveway and front of the house that is motion activated and records audio and video. Because this is a mountain home, mice and bugs are common and nearly impossible to keep outside despite our best efforts. Evidence of mice or bugs will not be grounds for guest cancellation.

We have wonderful WiFi when it’s working which is about 98% of the time. Please don’t rely on our WiFi for work or entertainment because repairs can often take a week or more in our rural area.

We supply a starter amount of toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, dish detergent, trash bags, shampoo, conditioner and body wash which is generally enough for 6-8 people for 3 nights. Firewood is provided November to March, but otherwise guests are responsible for bringing firewood. If you run out, you will need to supply more.

Guest may be asked to provide copies of photo IDs for all guests staying prior to receiving the door code.

A fantastic, architect-designed, Nordic-modern, four-bedroom, two-bath cabin, tucked away down a relatively secluded dirt road in the community of Old Timberline. Flat lot, surrounded by beautiful tall trees. Walking distance to miles of trails and the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge. Easy access from within the neighborhood to the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Minutes to White Grass, Timberline Mountain, and Canaan Valley ski resorts. Or just explore the wooded wilderness behind the cabin!

The space
The cabin is a work of art! Sleek, yet cozy, with a potbelly stove, ample firewood, wood-clad walls, and towering living-room ceilings (24-feet high). Huge windows integrate the cabin with its beautiful surroundings. Behind the cabin is a magical wooded lot that extends for acres.

The cabin has lots of amenities--central heat and A/C, satellite TV, WiFi, good cell access, Wii and games, old-school Atari and games, a Samsung Frame TV (made to look like framed art work when off, to avoid sapping the charm), bluetooth speakers, turntable with vinyl records, iMac computer, books and board games, toys, dishwasher, washer-dryer, garbage disposal, crockpot, coffeemaker, microwave, and an eclectic collection of mid-century modern furniture. Plenty of closet space throughout. Very airy and bright. Lots of windows. Excellent ventilation. Every bedroom is a corner bedroom and windows on both exterior walls. White noise machine in every bedroom. A ceiling fans in almost every room of the cabin.

The first floor features a well-stocked open-plan kitchen, dining space, and living space with a pot-belly stove. There's also a mudroom for taking on and off ski boots, laundry room, master bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. Upstairs, there are three more bedrooms and a second bathroom with tub.

There are porches off the front and back. The back porch includes a covered dining area. There is a charcoal grill in the backyard (and, typically, charcoal in the shed). Behind the cabin, there are acres of woods, a slack line, and a storage shed with a basketball hoop, balls, lawn games (croquette, corn hole), a child-size kayak, and a couple of pairs of snowshoes and bikes. Finally, there is typically stocked firewood, which you can use in the living room pot-belly stove.

We also have two adult-sized kayaks housed on a rack at a small lake, which is just a fifteen-minute walk (or two-minute drive and five-minute walk) from the cabin.

Guests have access to the entire property, except the cellar and the owner's lockout closet.

No parties. This is really just a cabin for ten people and ten people only. We are on a well and septic system which cannot handle more. In the past, we've sometimes had issues with guests packing in extra people. Even though the setting is rural, there is a gatehouse. So, they'll know if you try to bring extra folks. Please do not attempt to do so. We hope you understand. Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no swimming at the lakes within walking distance to the property (though you can boat and fish on them). But there are other swimming options further away, which I detail in the cabin manual that I send you prior to arrival.

We provide a kayak for guest use on Sand Run Lake, less than a 5 minute drive from the cabin. The kayak is stored by the lake, with life jackets and paddles stored at the cabin.

Please note that Old Timberline is a gated community, and guests will need to complete a Rental Authorization Form that we will provide you with upon reservation to present to the guard at the gate house upon arrival.

We welcome well-behaved dogs (non-aggressive breeds) at the house. We do ask that dogs stay off beds and furniture (we provide a doggy bed) and that guests properly dispose of pet waste. Dogs must be under direct supervision of owners, and not left alone at the house uncrated. We provide bowls for food and water, but guests must bring dog food.
