The area is made up of many families & cottages who have resided here for multiple generations, many of them more than 100 years! When you arrive to the Ranch, we will give you a short list of great places, but get out and make your own adventure & be sure to let us know how it went!
The Maple cabin has dish network television with a fold down futon couch in the living area that makes down into a double for an additional bed. The bedding is provided. If you choose to bring your horse to the Ranch it has horse pens right out your front door for your horse to stay in. The visiting horse barn is a short walk to the top of the Ranch should you prefer a stall. We do not allow stallions on the Ranch. Horse trail passes are not required in the National Forest in Oconto County.
If you are bringing your ATV or UTV we do have direct trial access. Once you have arrived on the Ranch, park your truck and ride the duration of your stay in your ATV or UTV. If you are from a state other than Wisconsin, you do need an an out of state trail pass to be legal on the trails. It can be purchased through the DNR website for $35.00.
The Maple Cabin is dog friendly. You will need to provide a current proof of rabies for your dog. Please remember, we are in the national forest and there are wild animals as well as other Ranch guests, our own horses, dogs, & guinea hens. Your dog needs to be under your control at all times.
If you are coming from a distance or out state, we are only 70 miles from Green Bay so take a day and the opportunity to check out the iconic Lambeau Field, National Railroad Museum, Bay Beach, or the Lake Front!
In the past, we have had many Ranch Guests from other foreign countries. Some have done the loop around the UP and back down through Michigan which was very popular pre-covid.
If you are interesting trying a recreational activity and do not have the equipment, there are places in the Northwoods who rent equipment. Just let us know and we are more than happy to help you find one of these companies. Rentals are available for UTV's, snowmobiles, down hill skis, cross country skis, snow shoes, paddle boards, kayaks, pontoons, fishing boats, & fat tire bikes!

- "We booked this cabin because we had friends nearby that we were visiting and ended up spending most of our time here. The cabin has everything we needed and is very clean. The lake is right out the door and is crystal clear. We had a lot of fun with the paddle boat. It is on a quiet road and easy for walks. It is great that they allow dogs, hard to find places that do. We meet the owners and their parents/in-law's and they were very friendly. We will be back."

- "We had an absolutely wonderful time! The cabin was much bigger in person than the pictures showed, which was a nice surprise! It was well furnished and very clean. We were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and a nice note from the hosts (who were very responsive when asked questions about the cabin). The land the cabin is on is stunning! The hosts provided an abundance of fire wood, which was so nice and convenient. The only thing we noticed was that the cabin is very close to a loud two way road, we constantly heard cars while playing games by the fire (once we went inside for the night, we couldn’t hear the cars), but other than that it was perfect - we would absolutely stay here again!"

- "This place is just beautiful. It's a lovely cottage from the road to every room in the home. Furnishing are so "Up North" while being comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The lower level had a huge TV and a pizza oven. The three season room has a goregous view of the river and the sound to go with it. Your stress level decreases a 1000%. We plan to revisit this place many times over." - "We stayed for a sibling weekend with my 3 siblings and 2 of our partners. It was perfect! Evey lounging space in the cabin was ideal for gathering and spending quality time together. The porch and backyard space was so relaxing, we spent most of our time just sitting outside listening to the sounds of the river. My now fiance actually proposed to me on the dock in the backyard and it was an absolutely perfect background for that special moment! The hosts are very friendly and responsive. It was the best weekend ever!! 10/10"

- "Had a great stay with the family. Everything was perfect! Had a little rain one day, which was completely fine due to the covered patio. Besides the great views, that was the best part of the house in my opinion!" - "Beautiful" - "I enjoyed our stay. The outdoor seating area overlooking the lake was probably the highlight of the stay. We went during the week and it was extremely quiet and peaceful. Communication with Michelle was on point. I was bummed we had to bring our own blankets for every bed because I had to pack 4 for the family and it was a lot of extra baggage to travel with. Other than that, no complaints. Thank-you!"

- "Best place ever, The view the cabin is just fantastic. My family will be back next year. The host Natalie very informative with everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible, pretty Awesome JanieThank you" - "Very impressed. We went UTVing. Saw lots of wildlife. Property was very clean and comfortable. Close to trails. " - "My fiancé and I booked 3 nights for my birthday. We were looking for a peaceful retreat to unwind, bike, and just relax before our wedding this September. Natalie is a super host. I had a couple questions and she responded immediately. She had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. What a nice surprise. Her cottage is on a dead end road which made it super quiet. It had everything we needed plus items like games that we played a couple nights. We grilled and sat on the deck several nights overlooking the water. The views were spectacular. We biked around the area and took in the sights and sounds. Our stay was 3 nights and went way too fast. Thanks Natalie for a fantastic birthday and pre wedding trip. We are definitely going to return soon."

- "All went smoothly, the hosts were extremely reachable (we asked to check in a bit early) and friendly and the house was as described. The Wi-Fi was pretty slow so just be aware, especially if you're going to try to work from the house. Otherwise everything was great and we enjoyed our stay!" - "We had a great weekend ATVing. Cabin was perfect, everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Great location, we could leave right from the yard with ATVs and the lake was just a short walk down the road. Would definitely stay here again."

The space
We (Kimberly and Casey) first met in the lakewood area 30 years ago and purchased our beautiful Cottage over ten years ago and have made so many unforgettable memories with our family along the way. It started out as a lake house, but didn’t take long to feel like a lake home. After some thought, we decided to open up our home away from home so more families could share this unique Northwoods experience!
SUMMER TIME
The property has over 700 feet of lake frontage on Big Gillette Lake with 5 acres of heavily wooded land and is very private. *The vast lake frontage provides much privacy, but the usable area is about 100 feet. We have enjoyed many long summer days/nights just relaxing on the dock and playing around in the small sand area right from our shoreline. When the Sun is out, we have found that fresh water snorkeling is a fun activity right off of the dock, you can see large mouth bass, perch, and bluegill!!! Although it is a small area, we have the only sandy hardbottom area on both lakes. It is perfect for launching the canoe/kayaks, letting the little ones play with their floaties, or a personal favorite, putting a chair in the water and watching the sunset. *Please note that there are weeds along the dock and on both sides of the small sandy area. There is a small spot right off the dock where we jump in that you can stand as well. Depending on the water depth is between 4-5 feet. If you swim to the float raft the depth of water is betwween 10-12feet.
*Please note there are two flights of stairs to the lake.
Swim out to the floater raft in clear Northwoods waters! We have everything you need to get your water fix!! (2), kayaks (1), canoes, noodles and fun floaters to enjoy your favorite beverage, right from the middle of the lake! We even have an awesome pontoon available!(additional charge)
We have spent nearly ten years learning and enjoying the fishing on the lake, and found that some of the best fishing is right off of the dock. Though we did mount a few fish on our trophy wall located in the living room in the beginning years, we have learned to practice catch and release to conserve the blessing of catching a Northwoods fish for generations to come!
Although you may get enough exercise using the stairs to the lake, you may want to start your day with a walk/run down the dead end road and back. (1 mile roundtrip) or as we have done, continue on past the Jones Family Lake Home to extend the run/walk while enjoying the forest!
We have an excellent vinyl collection and record player for your listening enjoyment. Located in the 3 season room with a wood burning stove and forest views, drop the needle on your favorite record, from the Beatles to the Stones! There is a small basketball hoop for a game of “pig” or “around the world” on a rainy day. We also have a wii gaming console, not to mention a closet full of nostalgic board games!
WINTER TIME
Snowmobile Trails are with 1.5 miles from our place.
We Love the Winters up here!! Wintery snowscapes while snowshoeing the lake (4 pairs of snowshoes provided) Or cozy up to one of two wood burning fireplaces with a hot cup of coffee/tea/hot coco and just watch the snowflakes fall!
Snowmobile trails are within minutes of the driveway.
*The 3 season room is only heated when the wood burning stove is going, so in the spring/fall/winter this room will be cold overnight.
At night, cozy up around the firepit, perfect for making Smores and telling ghost stories under the stars. Make sure to turn off the lights for the full effect. The Milky Way hits different up here! Shooting stars and fireflies are almost guaranteed.
At the Jones Family Lake Home (as well as the opportunities in the nearby Nicolet National Forest and the surrounding lakes and towns) it is up to you on the kind of vacation experience you like. Let your imagination roam!
Where tranquil waters meet Northwoods Forest.
Make yourself at home. The Jones Family Lake Home.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire cottage (minus one room on the lower level where we store our belongings). On the main floor, a full kitchen and dining area sit adjacent to the connected living room where a small cozy wood burning stove awaits. There is also a separate living room(tv room) with a sofa sleeper for additional sleeping space. A full bathroom and shower are located in the hallway from the two bedrooms on the main floor. (one with 2 twin beds and full closet, and one with 1 King bed and 1 closet) A set of stairs leads to the downstairs private suite! A relaxing large room with a Queen size bed and a sofa sleeper for extra guests. The private suite has a full bathroom with standup shower, and a private walkout with French doors. You can enjoy the very large 3 seasons room (*only heat source is wood burning stove, so this room will get cold overnite) with a woodburning fireplace and plenty of space for boardgames ect Two seperate lawn spaces provide the perfect place for a game of horseshoes, a competitive game of croquet, or badminton. There are two large flights of stairs that takes you away from the house to the lake, where there is a separate lakeside firepit area. A mulched path leads you to the large private dock and small sandy beach area, One canoe, two kayaks, and even a pontoon boat(extra charge) await you lakeside. We also have a nice sized shed full of swimming noodles, and floaties!!
One things for sure!
You won’t have time for everything in one stay, especially if you do nothing at all! Sometimes that is just what the doctor ordered!
Other things to note
While we have plenty of beautiful waterfront area, there are two large flights of stairs that lead you to the lake. These stairs are easier going down then up, and after ten years I can say that they have kept us in shape! Take your time going up and you should be fine. Remember a relaxing hot tub with panoramic views awaits as your reward! We keep the shoreline as natural as possible to provide habitat for wildlife, keep the water clean, and create picturesque views.
Take Notice!!!
Big/Little Gillett Lakes allow paddle boats or electric motors only, which makes for a wonderfully quiet and peaceful experience. If you want to bring a motorboat, there are nearby larger lakes with public access. Please take extreme care to follow these rules to help preserve the pristine lake environment Big/Little Gillett lake provides.
We do have an antenna for local channels, to catch up on weather forecasts and such. We also have a sizable DVD collections coined, “Northwoods Netflix” to play in the Blue ray player. Find your favorite movie from ‘Dirty Dancing to Back to the Future!’
WIFI
There is a QR Code in our welcome guide on the kitchen table.
We have a ROKU with Netflix, HULU ect. Perfect for a cozy family movie night in the northwoods.
Guest access
The private driveway has enough room for multiple cars and / or trailers (for our ATV / Snowmobile friends).
- "We stayed at the property over Memorial Day weekend. The place was exactly as described and perfect for our extended family. There were plenty of common spaces to spend time together or apart. We loved the record player in the 3 seasons room. We saw hummingbirds and woodpeckers. The sounds of the loons was amazing. Plus you can’t beat the hot tub with lake views. We can’t wait to stay again." - "My family just spent a week at this wonderful cabin. Everyone had a great time! The host was very responsive to all questions. My grandkids absolutely loved the lake, very nice sand area, and good floating items. Would highly recommend for get away!"
