It had a more than serviceable kitchen with gas hotplate, microwave, fridge, sink, etc. There was only limited mobile coverage, but frankly we liked it that way. What really made this place stand out for us were the thoughtful little extra touches, like an espresso coffee pot with complimentary good-quality freshly ground coffee, a milk frothing jug for cappuccinos etc, as well as a lovely wecoming box of Roses chocolates. Everything was spotlessly clean, everything worked perfectly and the beds were in very good condition and extremely comfortable to sleep in. You'll need to bring bottled water to drink, as the cottage draws its water from a well - but this is no big deal. Best of all were the gorgeous views over hills and valleys available from our front verandah, the peace and quiet of a rural setting, the lovely farm animals, and the magnificent starscape overhead (we were fortunate enough to stay during the new moon on a perfectly cloudless evening). We all felt very warm, welcome and comfortable there, and cannot recommend the place highly enough. If simple, quiet, peaceful and comfortable accommodation is your thing, and you love to stay in remote rural settings away from crowds of people, then these lovely little farm-stay cottages may be right up your alley. Highly recommended!"

Our kids delighted in exploring it and got taken round to feed the menagerie of fish, sheep and chickens in the morning. Its simply one of the most amazing gardens I've ever seen made up of an eclectic selection of antiques and vintage cars interspersed with a jungle of plants. Its enormous with interesting hideyholes, creative ideas, little surprises and little finds, carefully tended over years of attention and love. We would absolutely return and will use this as a break on the road for future trips."

A short 4 minute stroll away is our famous 'Horizon' Crystal ball, perfect for the Sunset selfie. The beach in front of the house has a great swimming/snorkeling spot and it's a quick 10 minute walk to AJ's beach cafe for a coffee or some breakfast. Bed 1 has a huge king size bed, Bed 2 has 2 singles. All rooms have ceiling fans and there is an air-con in the lounge and the main bedroom. As "The Hermitage" is a State listed heritage property, every effort has been made to retain the original character of the building, even down to its original bathroom, toilet and limited kitchen facilities.

The kitchen is not able to cater for full on cooking but there is the basic kettle, toaster, air-fryer, microwave and refrigerator. This all adds to the charm of the place. But who needs a kitchen when literally 100 meters across the road is Best & Western's Hospitality Inn, that provides continental and cooked breakfasts as well as one of Geraldton's best restaurants for an evening meal!

There is a portable water cooler & pedestal fans to keep you cool in the summer and oil heaters to keep you warm in winter.

Although situated close to the CBD "The Hermitage" sits alone on a large piece of fenced land. Monsignor Hawes was a dog breeder and had built into "The Hermitage" a specially designed door to let in his beloved canine companion, Dominie. There was once a carving of his dog on the newel post of the mezzanine stairs, but regretfully, this was stolen many years ago. We hope to replace it one day if we can find a sculptor! So well behaved pets are welcome.

The only neighbours are the very quiet tenants of an adjacent retirement home.
