Winter brings the majestic Humpback Whales on their annual migration to Hervey Bay. A short drive to lookouts and from May to August, you will see them heading north. From August to November they return to their summer home in the Antarctic waters. Other whales can also frequent the crystal clear waters off North Stradbroke Island.

Regular vehicular ferries and passenger boats depart from Cleveland, a bay side area, south east of Brisbane. Ferry and passenger boat trips depart daily from 5am, until late, depending on day of week. More about that later, but it must be said that this relaxing trip will de-stress and unwind you in preparation for your stay in paradise.
A 15 minute drive from Dunwich, were the ferry and boat terminals are, is Starfish.

There are very few north facing beaches on the east coast. The best thing about Point Lookout is that if one beach is a bit blown-out, just go around the corner to another beautiful beach. North Straddie offers many options for your holiday.

Straddie Beach Cabin is a secluded free-standing eco cabin (Shack 18) that offers privacy within the island's premier resort. Located at beautiful Home Beach in Point Lookout, it is set in leafy natural surrounds and caters for singles and couples. It has everything needed to make your stay a pleasurable one, with most of the islands attractions nearby.

The stylish architect designed high-set one-bedroom eco cabin offers a practical, inspirational design, with a mezzanine bedroom featuring a queen size bed. There are two additional single foam mattresses and a portable folding cot stored in the cabin. The cabin is air-conditioned with open plan lounge/dining. It is self contained with a modern kitchenette, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, big screen Smart TV. A medium size Weber Q barbeque stands on the extended rear deck which is secluded by a beautiful natural screen of native greenery. A beach umbrella and two beach chairs are kept in the cabin for guests to use. A small collection of grocery staples and a small supply of cleaning items is also kept on-site. All linen is supplied for two guests. A complimentary room clean and fresh linen is provided for stays longer than 7 days.

A late check-out may be available on request.

Guests have access to the resort's pool (one of the best on the island) and a small gymnasium.

Wireless internet access is available from reception at reasonable rates and the great on-site Cafe offers great breakfasts, lunches, woodfired pizza and a quality barista.

Billa Bush Cottage is a newly renovated (Nov 2018) Island home that has kept it's beautiful charm and original qualities but been pulled into the modern world with a beautiful modern 'wet room' bathroom and lovely kitchen.

Enjoy ocean breezes and the sound of waves before retiring to your fully air conditioned, one bedroom apartment, which has an ensuite bathroom and toilet. Located 350 metres from the Adder Rock bus stop, you don't even need to bring your car. But if you do, on site parking is available. Fully self contained with a brand new, super comfy Queen size bed, the studio is perfect for singles or a couple. This cute little one bedroom studio has a kitchenette, bathroom (oversized shower recess) and toilet. It has an attached undercover outdoor area with a gas BBQ.

If you don't have a car, we offer use of our 4WD Toyota Land Cruiser as part of your accommodation package. It's usually $350 per day (with the beach permit), however we can offer it to our guests "as a run around" for $100 per day, plus the fuel you use. That way you don't even need to bring a car over. You can use ours and live the life of a local. Please note, that this rate does not include the beach permit for driving on the beach. If you want to do that we have to run through the safe operation of the 4WD, the tide times and the weather forecast, just so you are safe comfortable and ready to have a good time. Driving on the beach with the beach permit included, costs our guests $200 per day, plus the fuel you use.
"Oasis" is a great restaurant, located just down the road. It's Mexican fusion, with a great range of wood fired pizza. They also do the best King Fish Ceviche I've ever tasted. - "We enjoyed our stay. The apartment is basic but very clean and the bed very comfortable. The hill was tiresome and very steep to walk up to get to the bakery and lookout, but the view was worth it. Bbq just outside door of unit to cook on. Walking distance to bus stop to get to pub for dinner with courtesy bus on weekend. Walk to bakery, lookout to watch whales, turtles, dolphin and sting rays. Walk to delicious fish and chips and gelato. The prawns at the prawn shack were delicious and we had them twice for lunch. The blue room also had nice coffee."

Ahoy Cottage is everything that a Straddie beach holiday should be. It's unpretentious and has that uniqueness that the original builders created with Straddie's own architectural style. The addition of a stunning rear cantilevered deck has added significantly to the livability of the house. The views are vast at any time of day, particularly the sunsets. These originals were built to take in the sea breezes on offer and Ahoy is no different.

It has an unconventional layout with 2 bedrooms, the first bedroom (off the living room) with a King bed and the second bedroom with a Queen Bed.

- "We really enjoyed our stay. The house has great views. It’s well appointed. Quite clean - the house itself is enormous and would be very hard to keep as clean as they do. Good hot water. They have various types of pillows across the beds which is good. The bed we slept on seemed brand new but wasn’t the most comfortable it was ok. No complaints from the other guests. One of the nice things about this house is that it has everything you need. Has nice wine glasses etc. Lots of kitchenware. The checkout requirements were not laborious. Aircon in all bedrooms. No complaints."
