- "This is easily one of the best VRBO rentals we've ever done among many over the years internationally and throughout the U.S. To say it is inviting and welcoming is an understatement - from the moment you cross the threshold into this beautiful "Barndo" I'm confident you'll feel as we did, just wanting to experience the amazing mountain views from every comfortable chair, to hunker down with a book or listen to music. The living areas are incredibly well-appointed, the furniture comfortable, the space truly amazing with points of interest inside and out. You'll want for nothing as the owner has anticipated all of your needs, from extra linens to snacks, and and every kitchen utensil you may desire and I love not having to pack as much bc of the full size W/D. I'm mad for the color scheme, artwork and the plants which make the environment so engaging and alive. We stayed at this property for over 10-days during the fall, prior to it being listed on VRBO so we became familiar with the surroundings that offer so SO much to do from hiking the property to adventuring out to the ATX and amazing national forests within minutes, or investigating local dining. We had to work during this overnight and the free wifi made it a breeze (better than home!) No review would be complete without mentioning the vistas and the sounds that envelope you. The creek provides a constant, rhythmic soundtrack and peace and calm are constant companions. The host is a joy as is this property. "

Thank you for considering our mountain cabin as your vacation get-away! We find peace and tranquility there and we think you will find it as well! The cabin, just over 8 years old is still just like new and offers sleeping accommodations for up to 10. There are two bedrooms downstairs, one queen bed (new Tuft and Needle mattress), and one full bed (new mattress), and an upstairs loft area that has two single beds and one full bed (ALL have new Tuft and Needle mattresses!) Additionally, there is plenty of space to blow up two queen air mattresses if extra space is needed for kids or extra people. The fully equipped kitchen offers stainless steel appliances and a sitting area to view beautiful Roan Mountain or any wildlife that may be playing in the yard. The large living room area is equipped with a semi circular leather couch with recliners on both ends and a large ottoman. Rockers are available in this room, adding sitting space for large family gatherings. There is a large flat screen TV over the mantle, offering a movie like setting for those who enjoy movies or TV. The front porch of our cabin is equipped with a swing, two rockers and other porch chairs, offering an early morning getaway for readers and bird watchers while listening to the stream. This is a favorite spot for almost everyone who visits the cabin. The back porch of the cabin is a great spot to grill and entertain. The 10 acre property that the cabin sits on has a natural walking path for those who like to get exercise without having to leave the cabin to do this. Additionally, there is a natural fire pit just across the bridge by the creek where you and your family may enjoy smores and late night chats. The creek water is adjacent to the firepit and readily available to extinguish the fire/embers after use. All seasons are beautiful here, as nature puts on a display of brilliant colors depending on the time of year. We hope your stay at the cabin will be a time of refreshment and renewal.
- "This place was amazing…..we have rented several cabins over the years but this one was far superior to any place we stayed previously. Everything was to perfection, Hope is a wonderful host. She was very responsive to any questions or needs and just a down right pleasure to deal with. We wanted a place to take out two granddaughters that would expose them to a simply more basic way of life and to experience nature at it finest. We discovered that and more…..Hope has missed nothing in her furnishings and supplying of this cabin. She clear takes a great deal of pride in her property and the decor, which includes a lot of her family history made this cabin seem like home right from the first minute we entered…..it just felt like home. Thank you so much for you hospitality Hope….we will certainly be returning!"

Quiet mountain top retreat with great mountain views. Minutes from trophy trout fishing, golf, snow skiing, the Appalachian Trail, Watauga Lake, Banner Elk, fine dining and more. Mountain Living doesn't get any better than this. You will be less than two miles from Roan Mountain State Park located on TN Hwy 143, at the base of the majestic 6,285 foot Roan Mountain, home of the World's largest natural Rhododendron garden and incredible panoramic mountain views (see http://www.roanmountain.com). At the bottom of the mountain, very close to our property, Roan Mountain State Park encompasses more than 2,000 acres dominated by rich hardwood forest along rugged ridges. The cool, clear Doe River winds its way through the center of the park and supports a healthy population of trout. State Park activities await you including heated pool, volleyball court, tennis and basketball courts, Ranger-led hikes, fly fishing the Doe river, music/performances in the amphitheater, etc. (see https://tnstateparks.com/parks/roan-mountain) Carvers Gap Trailhead for the Appalachian Trail is just minutes away.
Our 2017 Custom Built Mountain Home features great views overlooking the mountains and a spring fed pond. There is an expansive covered deck. Wood and tile floors with open floor plan. The kitchen is very spacious with a large island and view of the mountains. There is a Master Bedroom on each floor. Each Master has a laundry room and full bath. The heat system is a radiant floor with thermostats in each bedroom.
Please note that the top part of our gravel road is steep and can be difficult for some vehicles and loads. We recommend you come in an all wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicle, especially in bad weather.

Alan gave very thorough instructions and checked on us via vrbo. They had everything we needed there. The view is amazing from the picture windows and porch. There are many amazing things to do within 20 to 60 minutes away. Would absolutely stay here again. You do have to go up the driveway carefully but is well worth it. - "The cottage was clean, neat, and with subtle home-like decor, but no clutter. It is super quiet, and evenings around the firepit were a delight; easy access to Roan Mountain and the Tri-City area. We were greeted on arrival by a goodie basket and smores gear, left by our hosts; they also left goodies for our Golden Retriever, Boomer, and a personalized note wishing us a Happy Anniversary. I very much doubt that we could have picked a better place."

Beautifully renovated cabin located on Roan Mountain with a view from the balcony & second bedroom. Able to sleep 4 adults with two queen beds and two full bathrooms or 6 people utilizing the pull out sofa. One bathroom is private, attached to the master, and the other has dual entrance with the second bedroom and the hallway. The second bedroom however has the best view of the mountain out the large sliding doors which leads out onto the balcony. The kitchen is fully outfitted with everything you would need to cook whenever you don't feel like going to the base of the mountain to the multiple local restaurants. A cozy sunken living room has the pull out couch to accommodate more family members. We've outfitted the living room with a tv, DVD player, a small collection of movies, and some family games. Though we don’t have cable, the DVD player allows you to stream from your Netflix or Amazon account. Down the stairs is the den where you will find the washer and dryer with allergy friendly detergent. The stairs has a retractable baby gate at the top (please use caution still as there is a small gap). You can access the fire pit easiest from downstairs. S'mores fan? It's a great place to relax with the family in the evening and still have a great view of the landscape. Be sure to check out the windows during your stay. We've seen a little fawn resting in the grass, as well as goats grazing, a chipmunk, and many birds darting around the trees. The cabin is my favorite place to relax with a good book, or tell days gone by stories with my family. At the top of the mountain you'll find the Appalachian trail and the renowned Rhododendron Gardens (best in bloom the month of June) or Beech Mountain for some skiing and sledding. Along the mountain are many trails and a historic homestead. Roan Mountain is located within about 30 minutes of Elizabethton, Johnson City and on the border of North Carolina's Elk Park. There's a little something for everyone in the family. Antiquing, city night life, hiking, skiing, and exploring the great outdoors, or relaxing indoors and out at the cabin. I think this part of Tennessee will become a favorite vacation spot year after year for you and your family.

The Mountain House is located on the highlands of the Roan in beautiful Roan Mountain, Tennessee.
Our Mountain House is at 4200 feet elevation, overlooking the beautiful Heaton Creek valley. Full length covered porches and plenty of comfortable chairs offer majestic mountain and valley views and great opportunities to enjoy our cool mountain breezes.
Because of the 4200+ feet elevation we recommend 4 WHEEL DRIVE vehicles for visits during November thru February. The state keeps Highway 143 fairly clean and the county usually plows Log Cabin Lane by noonish after a snowfall but there will still be some snow on the road and of course in the driveway. Having said that, it's absolutely beautiful at The Mountain House during and after a snowfall.
The Cherokee National Forest is a few hundred yards away in most directions and, as the crow flies, the Appalachian trail is less than 2 miles away. By road, Carvers Gap, and the Rhododendron Gardens are 3 miles. The Mountain House is minutes above the Roan Mountain State Park which offers swimming pool, tennis courts, camping, hiking, and fishing. Actually, several hundred miles of trout fishing streams (including the trophy trout designated Watauga river) are within a 30 mile radius.
We are conveniently located just 35 minutes away from the ski resorts, restaurants, and shopping of Banner Elk, Boone, and Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
If you are sitting on our back porch enjoying the view, Nascar racing will seem a world away. In fact, the Bristol Raceway is a pleasant 50 minute drive away.
We've made our Mountain House comfortable and cozy. You will feel right at home, and will want to come back often.
We hope you come visit,
Richard and Martha

- "The cabin was exactly as listed and had breath taking views of the mountain range. We traveled to Sugar Mountain to ski over our stay and the roads were safe for travel granted the weather was around freezing most of the trip. Per the owners, a four-wheel drive/front wheel drive vehicle is a must during the winter during freezing/snowing weather as the local neighborhood road is not cleaned as regular as the state road. My overall rating of this property is 9 out of 10. There were a few items that could be updated; however, I highly recommend."

The cabin is located on 19 private acres surrounded by Cherokee National Forest and just over 2 miles from Roan Mountain State Park Resort, which offers day and evening tennis, paddle ball, volley ball, swimming pool, trout fishing, nature walks, hiking trails, programmed activities, amphitheater and conference center. You are only a short drive to Beech Mountain Ski Resort, Grandfather Mountain, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Banner Elk, Linville Falls, Penland School of Crafts and much, much more.
- "The living room of this cottage looks out, through a wall of glass windows and doors, onto a spacious deck and the distant ridges of Roan Mountain. Overall, it is exceptionally well equipped and furnished. In late July, the air felt cool, fresh and breezy. There are many wonderful hiking trails within easy reach, but the cottage and deck make such an enjoyable retreat to return to. The host, Linda, lives close enough to respond right away to any needs or questions. After an idyllic week's stay, we hope to visit again."

We are near skiing and hiking making us a true 4 season destination. This little cabin was built as a storage shed back in the 70’s or somewhere there abouts. It was originally constructed partially over an old tobacco barn foundation. The original barn was built sometime in the 1940’s and was struck by lightning in the 70’s and burned to the ground. 85% of the materials used in the remodeling of what we now call Rustic Ridge was reclaimed materials. Most of the planks and finish lumber Which includes wormy chestnut, ash and cherry wood was salvaged from an old farmhouse that was dismantled on our nearby property. With all new plumbing and electrical you get all the safety and comfort of your own home. The house does not have AC and it is hardly ever needed. Even in the heat of summer the house stays cool being located under a canopy of tall birch, poplar and cherry trees. Heat is provided by electric baseboard and wall heat as well as an electric fireplace. There is plenty of parking directly in front of the cottage and parking is monitored by a security camera for your safety.
- "Rustic Ridge offers a perfect getaway spot - convenient to all of natures amenities. Cozy and well appointed decor, comfortable bed linens and towels, bath essentials, and kitchen necessities. Thank you for everything." - "A great place that was far enough off of the road to enjoy peace, quiet and the nearby stream but close enough for a quick trip to the store." - "This place was far enough off of the main road to be quiet but close enough for a quick run to the store. Everything was clean and the place looked great."

- "Wife and I was trying to get away for a couple days. The place was perfect for us. Though it was close to the owners home, we had a 100 percent privacy. The place was comfortable clean and perfect for our needs. The owners were wonderful. I am not sure if there is any better owners on vrbo. Would recommend to anyone." - "This little cabin was perfect for our stay -- and just as advertised. Clean and simple -- yet with anything you might need. The hosts -- Patrick and Norma -- were very nice and thoughtful. If you're missing your dog like we were, the super-friendly dog greeted us each day -- and took us for a hike up the mountain next to the beautiful creek that runs next to the path up the mountain. We spent much of our time in the tri-cities area, and this cabin was convenient to those outings."

Hot Tub and grill worked well and WIFI easy to access. Our only concern were the ants on the counters. The spray we found under the sink helped so was glad to have available. Overall, we would definitely return if the opportunity presents itself!" - "Beautiful place" - "This property checked all of the boxes for what we wanted for our Thanksgiving trip. We really enjoyed the amenities. The hot tub, wood stove, and other creature comforts make this a great place to relax and enjoy some downtime. We will look for availability here in our future trips to this area."

Mountain Harbour Bed & Breakfast and Hostel in Roan Mountain Tennessee was originally opened in 2003. We have been serving the needs of the Appalachian Trail hikers ever since. We strive for our guests to have a wonderful experience while making use of any of our services. Of course our World Famous Breakfast is always a Highlight. Our number one goal is to ensure our guests feel as welcome in our home as they would in there own. Where the front porch swing is always swaying and the rocking chairs are always rocking.
- "We will definitely rebook here. 🙌🏻" - "Absolutely amazing first experience with Dave and Shannon and I can’t wait to stay here again. The room was super clean, neat, cozy, and a very comfortable bed. We stayed in the Jefferson, I saw reviews before that said there wasn’t enough hot water to use the jet tub, if that was ever a problem it’s certainly fixed now! Plenty of very hot water to fill the tub and Shannon leaves little aromatherapy packets to throw in which smelled so nice. Best part for sure as others have said, is the breakfast. If you miss this you will be sorely missing out. I was just amazed. All the brunches in cities and other countries I’ve been to stood no chance against Dave’s breakfast feast fit for royalty. 10/10!!"
