This is a spacious one level log cabin with three bedrooms, two baths and great indoor and outdoor space. The highlight of our cabin is the gorgeous all season views from the great room and both bedrooms!
Dancing Goat log cabin is a perfect spot for a family vacation or even two families as the master with ensuite bathroom is on one side of the living area and the other two bedrooms are situated on the other side with a separate bathroom. Bathrooms have Jacuzzi brand deep soaking tubs to relax at the end of the day. Great for girlfriend getaways too!
The beds are comfortable with hypoallergenic mattresses covers. All bed linens and bath towels are high quality cotton. We have beautiful cotton quilts for warmer months and comforters with cotton duvet covers from Pottery Barn for cooler months. One of our favorite features is the spacious kitchen where you will find everything you need for preparing a family meal. There is a Jenn-Air gas grill on the deck with piped gas. No hassle of changing cylinders midway through grilling.
The cabin sits on an acre of flat land with trees. It provides complete privacy yet easy access and close to all the attractions. It is less than a mile from the Mast General Store, Dutch creek ice cream and next to the Jerky outpost. There are several outdoor areas to enjoy - a pergola and patio with a swing set with mountain views and a fire pit for those starry night gatherings. The cabin has a rural country charm along with modern amenities like dual band wi-fi through high speed fiber connection, Samsung 4K ultra HD smart TV with Roku, YouTube TV and Amazon movies and charging station for all your devices.
There are horses grazing in the pasture across the street. There is a small farm to the side of the cabin where we watched the playful goats and sheep that inspired us to name the cabin. (Goats are gone now!). The cabin setting evokes feeling of nostalgia and escape to a classic American getaway. Enjoy fresh mountain air and peaceful atmosphere at Bear Tree Cabin! Cute as a button, it's nestled on the edge of a forest and gets its nickname from an unusual natural formation on a tree in the yard that looks like a bear is hugging it.

Our zip code is Sugar Grove, but the cabin is just 3 miles from the historic Mast General Store in Valle Crucis and is situated in a rural farming neighborhood just off of the Watauga River Road. Fishing, canoeing or swimming in the Watauga River is 2 miles away. Bring your mountain bike and enjoy the gentle grade of the Watauga River Road ... or for a little more adventure, let our resident mountain bike expert recommend a nearby trail that fits your abilities ...

A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is helpful for the short but somewhat steep gravel driveway.

Free-standing air conditioning units are located in the bedrooms for those occasional warm days in July & August. The cabin has ceiling fans in each bedroom and in both living areas. Warm blankets are also there for the cool summer nights!

Private setting, yet a very convenient location to Boone, Banner Elk and most area restaurants & attractions.

Shopping at the historic Mast General Store is only 3 miles away. Restaurants of all types are in Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock.
Zip-lining and snow tubing at Hawksnest is 25 minutes away. An Alpine Coaster ride is located in Banner Elk, across the road from Sugar Mountain Resort.

During the winter months ... Three ski resorts are within a 25 to 40 minute drive. Snow tubing is an option for the non-skier at some resorts nearby. At the end of the day, come 'home' to a relaxing well-maintained hot tub. Four-wheel or All-wheel drive is needed for the gravel driveway if it snows and helpful even without snow.

We also own a Choose & Cut Christmas Tree Farm nearby that is open mid-November through early December. It's called Bear Wallow Choose & Cut Farm.

During most times of the year, we require a 2-night stay but it doesn't hurt to ask about a 1-night stay!

Notes about Location:

Although Laurelwood is convenient to both Boone and Blowing Rock, it is a true mountain cabin. State maintenance of the road ends before reaching the cabin. The last part of the drive before the cabin is maintained by the Sunset Acres neighborhood and is a gravel road that is steeper and not as smooth. AWD or 4WD is necessary in inclement weather. Being familiar with driving on mountain roads is definitely a plus!

We generally won't be on hand to welcome you to your private getaway. However, we will try to provide everything you will need to enjoy your stay.

The Neighborhood:

Located 10-15 minutes from either downtown Boone or Blowing Rock feel free to explore these towns. In winter be sure to visit Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain to enjoy the winter sports. Sugar Mountain is 25 minutes from Laurelwood. In Boone you may want to watch a game at Appalachian State. Or just take a pleasant drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway any time of year.

Although we do not allow pets at Laurelwood, we allow service animals. As such, this home is not guaranteed to be an allergy free home. Also, we do have a camera mounted on the front porch and it faces the front yard and driveway only. Video is recorded however audio is not.

Our mountain retreat is on the main floor. NO STEPS!! Walk straight from your car to the front door. It is beautifully furnished with all the conveniences of home. The master bedroom has a Saatva Luxury Firm Queen size mattress, flat screen TV, private bath/dressing area and a sitting area for you to enjoy your morning coffee as you look out over Valle Crucis. The 2nd bedroom has 2 twin beds, TV and a separate bathroom. Both guest areas can be closed off from the rest of the condo for privacy.

The stone fireplace sets the tone in the great room. You can enjoy a book with the relaxing fire, or watch the 42' flat screen TV. Bring your laptop because WIFI internet is available in our unit. A large Mountain home in a perfect central location for everything in Boone that will comfortably accommodate large groups such as family reunions. With over 5000 square feet of living space, as well as an additional 1600 feet of outdoor decks, its easy to enjoy the fresh mountain experience.

All the furniture is good quality and creates an atmosphere you would expect in an upscale vacation home. Home is gradually being upgraded including fresh paint and new floors.

The main living area includes a living room with a fireplace and 60" flat screen TV. This room is open to a large fully equipped kitchen. Beside the kitchen is the dining area that seats sixteen at a country style table which allows everyone to eat together. Outside on the deck there are two tables and 16 chairs. Eat outside and enjoy the beautiful mountain view. A gas grill is provided on this level so you can enjoy your favorite steak and BBQ recipes. Back inside on this floor is a large primary bedroom and full bath with a garden tub along with a second bedroom that includes a twin bed and trundle and a half bath. There is also a fully equipped laundry room.

On the upper floor you will find two 20 x 25 bedrooms with 2 queen sized beds in each. There is a private bathroom for each. In the foyer between these rooms there is a queen pull out sofa along.

The lower level of the house is the perfect place for entertainment OR sleeping. Use as a bedroom or game room or both. There are two pull out queen beds bought in 2022 with a Full Bath Here you will also find a regulation Brunswick pool table, wet bar, board games and puzzles as well as a second fireplace. Sliding doors bring you out to a new deck containing a table and chairs. Take the stairs down to a large outdoor hot tub. This level of the house is the perfect place to enjoy football games, movies or just relax by the fireplace with your favorite beverage.

We also offer a 1/2 day rate with an early check in and late check out. Please ask if that is of interest to you.

The 2.5 acre lot is flat and can easily accommodate multiple cars for parking. An extra benefit is an outdoor solo stove for relaxing and toasting marshmallows with the kids.

One of the best features of this home is the location. Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk are all within 15 minutes. The Watauga River, Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain and Appalachian State Campus are close by. Once you book we will send information on day trips, hiking trails restaurants, and other points of interest. During winter season the ski slopes of Sugar mountain and Ski Beech are nearby.

- "Great Stay!! Not a long enough stay for me! Beautiful area, plenty of room the property is overall Very Nice!! View is wonderfully relaxing. Everything was extremely clean. ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided
- Check in is after 4pm and check out is by 10am
- Must electronically sign an additional Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions and any Neighborhood Rules sent by Host (property manager) or entry information cannot be sent.
- Must be at least 25 years old to reserve. This person is required to be the person signing the agreement and must be one of the persons staying in the property for the reserved dates.
- No smoking inside the home. No trace of smoking left outside the home.
- Do not leave food or trash outside as it could attract animals. All trash must be bagged and placed in the trash receptacle indicated in the Welcome Book inside the house or your digital guidebook.
- No parties or gatherings above the posted occupancy allowed at any time. Keep outside noise respectable.
- 4WD/AWD and/or chains recommended during winter (Nov-March) for all homes. Travelers visiting during the winter months where inclement weather may be possible should come prepared with an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and chains may also be required if it snows. No refunds, allowances, or date changes will be given to travelers who are not prepared with the proper vehicle, as outlined in the Rental Agreement.

- Located at over 4000' elevation, this home does not offer air conditioning. It does have a heating system for winter.

Bookings canceled 60+ days before arrival will receive a refund of the deposit.
Bookings canceled within 59 days of the arrival are not entitled to a refund unless the reservation dates are rebooked to another guest.

The space
Travel through the charming area of Valle Crucis and down a semi-private dirt road to The River House, a cozy and eclectic cottage right on the Watauga river. If rest and relaxation is what you seek this is the home for you!
The River house is centrally located between Boone and Banner Elk, making it easy to explore, Ski, Kayak, hike, and more. Not to mention a great trout and small mouth bass fishing spot right in your back yard, literally!

With charming and eclectic décor, the home lovingly is outfitted for comfort and rest. All beds are made with 100% cotton sheets, soft and fluffy towels are waiting in the bathroom and the kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to make a home cooked meal (or just a frozen pizza, lets be real). A portable crib and sheets are also provided for little ones in need of their own cozy space.
In the living area you will find a tv with basic cable as well as Roku capabilities for cozy nights in.
The large gated deck is the perfect spot to take in the views of the surrounding mountains and wildlife!

- "All we can say is wow, river is right in the back yard. We all had a nice quiet relaxing, fishing, cooking, sight-seeing weekend and it felt like home. Bathroom does need a little TLC but it worked for us, and the towels did have a musty smell (I’m assuming this is all at no fault to the owners but more just cleaning crew). There are also sheets left in the dryer that were probably from the previous renters (better that they were clean rather than dirty)! Would stay again!"
