- "We found this apartment online and were not disappointed. It was very new and had all we needed ( except for a microwave and limited oven pots) for our stay. Could I suggest provision of cooking foil would also be a good idea for the oven tray? The owners were welcoming and helpful - and spoke some English! We liked Wernigerode very much and thought it a better place to stay compared with Quedlinburg, Goslar or Ilsenburg which were other places we had thought of basing ourselves at. There was plenty of choice for restaurants locally for the evenings we ate out. Slight problem - we were frustrated to find several road closures in the region which did not help our plans for sightseeing as some of the diversions were quite long. Although this was no fault of our hosts, maybe some warning of this could be given to guests in future? We enjoyed walking from Schierke to the top of the Brocken, a tour of Wernigerode Castle and a walk up Bodetal from Thale. The Schurr route to the top was closed though (again no advance warning in any tourist guide) so we then crossed the river and climbed the other side, admired the views (avoiding the amusement park) and then walked back down to Thale. These walks generally avoided being in forests all the time (so no views) which seemed might have been the case on other possible walks.
