Cross the stream and follow the pathway over one of two bridges that lead you to the doorway of Seido-en. Envelope yourself in the quiet of the forest where deer peer through windows and are not afraid.
Seido-en is comfortable with many spacious windows that flood the great room with natural light inviting the forest. The house features a spacious sleeping loft with 6" pure latex over 3" tempur pedic mattresses. Enjoy selected bedroom reading. View the stars through the solar opening skylight with screen above the bed or 3 foot round window at one end of the loft. The fully updated kitchen is well appointed and stocked with all the basics you might have on hand at home. Small espresso pot, French Press, blender and rice maker are just a few. Eat at the counter or low table.

For your comfort there is a propane fireplace and water heated slate floors. In summer the floors can be comfortably cool when the weather is hot. A small library, six speaker sound system and leather Lazy-boy recliners invite you to rest and read. Bathe in the sunken tub with round window view past bamboo into the forest.

There are two patios. One is next to the House. There is patio set, umbrella, chaise and bar stools under cover for rainy days. Down stone steps to the other a larger kidney shaded patio which has patio set, chaise, outdoor shower, cabana and hot tub for your pleasure.

For the contemplative, walk the meditation garden trail and sit in quiet by the stone basin with bamboo water flute.

A 4 minute drive will take you to Stowel Lake Farm for produce , eggs and their home grown and home made fare. From there a short distance up the same road is famous Salt Spring Island Cheese company. On the way to Ganges is Barb's roadside artisan baked goods stand and other farm stands. There are fresh water lakes for swimming and fishing within 5 minutes. For fresh food and liquor there is the Salt Spring Mercantile at Fulford Harbour 7 minutes away.

Little self-contained studio suite across our driveway from our house. Lovely ocean view with a small deck outside to enjoy. Located right in Fulford Village close to restaurants, stores, bakery and galleries. We have a parking spot right in front of the Seahouse. We are just up from the ferry terminal in Fulford and there is a bus service to Ganges and the rest of the island every two hours from the terminal. We serve a continental breakfast and supply refreshments and treats. We welcome pets. We have a dog, Stella, and a cat Raymond. Stella is a friendly girl who loves everyone. We are friendly too and welcome visitors to our lovely island.

Location
We are located in the geographical centre and mountainous area of Salt Spring Island - just a three-minute drive from the restaurants, shops and ocean-front boardwalk of Ganges town. The main ferry terminals, Long Harbour and Fulford Harbour are 10 to 15 minutes away, respectively.

Getting Around
Cycling - Salt Spring is a large island with varied terrain - flat to mountainous. There are few cycle paths and the roads are narrow, winding and usually one lane in each direction. The speed limit outside of town is 80 km/h. For these reasons, cyclists on the island usually opt for an electric bike (available for rent in Ganges).

Bus - There is bus service, but it is infrequent and runs only in the main road between the Long Harbour and Fulford ferry terminals. Salt Spring is one of the few places where hitch-hiking is actually safe, friendly and frequently used by locals.

Taxi - We do not offer a transportation service. But if you are going out for a night on the town, taxi service is available.

All things considered, to get to our location, and to access the best sights on the island, your best bet remains travelling by personal vehicle.

What to Do and See
Salt Spring Island, BC, is the largest of the southern Gulf Islands and affords a great variety of sights and activities.

Guest is required to shower before using the hot tub. There is a shower house next to the hot tub for guest use. Use only the blue towels (provided) in the hot tub area

The cover for the hot tub must be replaced after use.

Help us keep the hot tub area clean and tidy. Please take all glasses, pop cans, trash, towels and personal belongings with you.

The garden gate (the "Sungate") must be kept closed to prevent deer and other wildlife from entering.

No lit candles in the suite as they are a serious fire hazard. We provide battery-operated candles for guest use.

Guest will inform the host immediately of any damaged, broken or non-functioning items so that repair/replacement can be made.

Dogs are not allowed on the furniture but in case you sleep with your dog or can’t stop them please bring a blanket to cover the bed spread and couch :)

After parking your car in the “finger” of the 1st farm gate, with the car facing toward the street, please enter the property via the associated “people gate". Once inside, you'll see the main house...and to the south of that, you'll see the Cottage, which is the last of 4 out-buildings on the south side of the property.

During winter months (December-February, but depends on the year), it is mandatory that you have AWD/4WD, with all-season or snow tires, as some parts of our driveway are steep and very slippery in icy weather! The sauna has a manual operation dial. You must turn the dial to "OFF" when you are finished with your sauna, and please turn the light switch off as well. We will charge a $50 electricity fee to guests who leave the sauna running when not in use or after check-out.

The cottage is located on the lower part of the property. I reside full-time in the main house on the upper part of the property.

The property boarders the Peter Arnell hiking trail and you'll have direct access from the property.

The property has a backup power source incase of power outages during inclement weather. If the power goes out, my back up generator kicks in and powers the whole property.

You’ll also find a brand new three piece bathroom with all the amenities you’ll need including shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

There is a private barbecue and direct access to the point. Our Orchard offers apples, pears and cherries for the picking, and you may also enjoy our organic herbs and vegetable gardens. The Loft guests have exclusive access to our oceanfront hot tub. Located by the sea, Valhalla offers private trails and the ideal setting for water sports, with rental options in town.

You may explore the whole estate, except for the main house, the Nest (separate cottage) and the caretaker's house. The Loft guests have access to the Hot tub.

Other things to note
Please note that we share our home with our guests, and that we are a small and familial operation, without staff or full-time services. We are only happy if our guests are having the best time, so we try our best to have their expectations met within our capacity.

If you have an Electric Vehicle, there are several charging stations around the island. We do not have EV charging capacity on the property.

We use regular cleaning products. If you have any sensitivity to detergents such as Tide/Persil/Downy or Greenworks, Clorox, Pledge, etc., please advise us at the time of your booking so we can accommodate your special cleaning request.

Although we love to see our guests have fun, we ask you to respect other guests' and our private spaces. Valhalla is a place to relax, meditate and contemplate nature and we appreciate quietude.

Please be mindful that the Loft is located in a wooded area, and it is usual to find pollen, pine needles, small animals like little frogs, spiders and harmless critters. Despite our best efforts to clean the cobwebs, you may find a few as they are formed every day.

Our base price is for double occupancy (2 guests), for 1 bedroom. If your child will not use an additional bedroom, then the extra person charge does not apply.

If someone is joining you for only part of your stay, then you will only be required to pay the extra person fee for the nights that they were here.
