The cabins are clean and the mineral bath really helps my husband’s psoriasis. Melissa is a wonderful manager and very personable. The cabins are cozy with ample firewood and a self-contained kitchen (no oven but a bbq ). The wifi is dodgy but it doesn’t matter as it’s so beautiful and removed, you don’t need it. The Gallery Cabin, a 100 year-old log cabin, lovingly refurbished with a new bathroom and kitchenette. Perfect for singles or couples the 240 square foot cabin has a brand new queen size bed, kitchen nook with sink, microwave, kettle, toaster, toaster oven and fridge, and a bathroom with shower and towel warming rack. Breakfast makings are provided: delicious fresh organic wood-fired sour dough bread provided by Francis Bread, home-made granola, jam, milk, juice, eggs, butter, bread, fruit and coffee and teas. A private deck soaks up the afternoon sun with a table, chairs and BBQ.
The Gallery Cabin is on the 2 1/2 acre property of Celia Duthie & Nicholas Hunt - with 1 other rental (Gallery B&B). Garden and forest views.
The cabin is a short walk from the nearby village Ganges, Churchill beach, and across the street from the prestigious Hastings House Hotel. There is a public bus service from the ferry terminals so guests can (if they wish) come to the island without a car and enjoy the island by foot, bus, kayak or rental scooter.
Salt Spring Island has an embarrassment of riches in art and music with many galleries, studios, and music venues. The Saturday Market, with farm produce, cheeses, and crafts, is a perennial favorite.
A good time to come to the island is often the off season, when the almost always temperate weather is fine for golfing, biking, walking, exploring the island or taking one of many excellent art and craft courses offered throughout the year.
- "We enjoyed everything this accommodation had to offer! Perfect location, peace and quiet, cozy cabin, natural setting, delicious breakfast and privacy. Easy check in and check out. Would love to return!" - "Charming property that is close to downtown but feels like you are very secluded. Loved the amazing breakfast fixings. They were delicious!" - "Great location a short walk to Ganges, 15-20 minutes, this is good for couples who are used to sharing cozy spaces. The cabin is quite comfortable but the kitchen is essentially one at a time. The hosts are next door and very helpful. We love it; this was our second stay and we plan to return."

Excellent place, and would stay again!" - "This cabin was so cute! It was the perfect place to stay for 2. Judy’s homie touches, like the fresh fruit provided upon arrival, made it so welcoming. The space
The A-Frame was originally built in the 1980s and renovated for more space by a master builder and artist - hence the artwork sketches on the walls.
The 350 square feet cabin is ideal for 2 people, but can sleep 4.
As you climb the ladder and enter the loft, you will find a cozy space with a comfortable queen bed, a reading lamp and a window. that opens to forest views. The second queen bed is a pullout couch in the open concept living area.
Please note that due to the steepness of the ladder to the loft, our A-Frame is not ideal for families with young children or individuals with mobility impairments.
Parking is beside the cabin, please try to tuck in. Additional parking can be used for second vehicle in the bend of the driveway, please try to tuck in there as well as we use it for a turn around.
The kitchen has a 4-burner stove with an oven, an apartment size fridge and everything you need for basic cooking: Organic olive oil, sugar, flour, baking soda and powder, salt, pepper and basic spices.

The Steps to the Sea Guest House is a private cottage nestled in the enchanting forest of Salt Spring Island's North End. Forest bathe from home every day in privacy with 1 acre of private forest backyard with 100+ foot trees, and live amongst the deer plus other Canadian wildlife. Work from home in the cottage in the tranquil forest. Just a short path down to a secluded bay with oyster beds where a kayaking journey can begin. Escape the city and find true peace in nature here.
- "I loved the solitude of this property and the proximity to the beach. I would definately stay again for a shorter period. The lack of cell service and a strong internet connection was a problem for us. I appreciated the bbq, fire pit and comfort of the beds. I did really miss having a tub though. A hot tub would be a great addition. Pretty far from town but doable if you are there for peace and quiet and not concerned with proximity to amenities or work from home. There are some really nice hikes in the area."

Rustic, artsy, comfortable: set on a beautiful wooded acreage near a stream, this private two-bedroom cabin and studio is located mid-island, just a 10-minute walk to the lake or 5-minute drive to the beach. Simple breakfast items contained in fridge. Two queen beds, sofa-bed, microwave, bathroom with shower, separate toilet room and large deck/patio with BBQ, overlooking the forest. Top-quality linens; tea, coffee, etc; wifi; lots of parking; keypad entry.
The space
As a family of artists and nature-lovers, we have created this space with an artistic eye as well as commitment to honouring the beautiful forest setting by maintaining a low environmental impact. Where possible, we’ve used natural materials and products, incorporated features such as LED lighting, on-demand hot water and a non-flush composting toilet. We hope you enjoy the result—an eclectic mix of rustic, artsy and comfortable!
From the parking area, walk a few steps to enter the light-flooded studio, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, tiled floor and beautiful live-edge table. Here you’ll find microwave, fridge and everything you need to prepare a simple meal … plus spectacular forest views!
In the funky red fridge you'll find welcome breakfast items: we aim to include at least a few dairy-free, gluten-free and meat-free options.
From this “Forest Room,” use the keypad to enter the suite. The light-filled, two-bedroom cabin is beautifully appointed with thoughtful details throughout and, of course, lots of art—from the paintings on the walls to the gorgeous, hand-made wooden beds. The cabin bathroom has a huge shower, while the separate “tiny toilet room” is accessed back through the Forest Room studio and along a short hallway.
Inside the cabin, enjoy the bright living room with pull-out sofa bed and sliding-door access to the tables and chairs on the deck, an area perfect for enjoying the afternoon and evening sun. Next to the deck is a stone patio with more seating, a BBQ and stand-up bar table. This property is home to owls, woodpeckers and ravens, and we often see eagles flying overhead. Maybe you’ll see our resident deer family wandering by!

Special features include the propane stove, large deck and amphitheatre campfire. Few places on Salt Spring offer such privacy within walking distance to almost all island amenities!
HeartWood is ideal for up to four adults. Due to child-proofing issues, the cabin is unsuitable for infants, toddlers and young children.
HeartWood cabin has two bedrooms. The larger bedroom has a queen sized bed, the tiny bedroom has a double. Both bedrooms have light-filtering blinds, warm duvets and charging stations. Robes are provided. The bathroom includes a modern bidet, washer and dryer.
Wifi, movies, board games, puzzles and books are provided.

Access to the forest trails and large campfire area is shared with our family. Guests may request access to the fenced garden area to gather fresh seasonal produce.
Our large acreage encompasses various ecosystems, including a meandering stream and old growth cedars. We are actively enhancing and protecting this land to maintain and encourage the native ecosystem. Birders will enjoy the large variety of woodpeckers, owls, hummingbirds and others that take refuge here. A family of deer lives nearby.
Other things to note
After a series of unfortunate issues requiring extensive clean-ups and costly/time-consuming repairs, we are no longer able to host guests who do not yet have positive reviews from previous Airbnb hosts.
The HeartWood cabin is outfitted with a TV, dvd player/movies. It is not serviced by cable TV, but Netflix is available.
While we love kids, we are not able to host young children at HeartWood. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces can be hazardous for babies/toddlers/young children, and it is unfortunately not possible to childproof.
Our dogs and cat have free access to the property and may visit you on the porch of the cabin or if you are wandering in the forest. All are friendly- the dogs will bark to alert us when you arrive. If you're interested, you may be able to persuade them to play a game of fetch. The cat will try to make himself at home in the cabin- please do not let him in. (The grandparents who visit often are very allergic).
Campfires in the fire pit are permitted for much of the year. As our climate continues to change, campfire bans exist most summers and into the fall. Campfires are not permitted during the summer of 2024 due to drought conditions.
Fresh water is a precious resource on Salt Spring Island. We ask that all guests be extremely careful with their water use.
Under Island Trust bylaws, HeartWood operates legally as a seasonal cottage B&B home based business.

TRAVEL:
Most guests arrive through one of the 3 ferry terminals on Salt Spring Island (Long Harbour/ Tsawassen near Vancouver, Fulford Harbour/Swartz Bay near Victoria, Vesuvius/Crofton near Duncan). Check schedules as they change by the season. Reservations are needed for boats to/from Tsawassen/Vancouver. If you are coming from the mainland it is possible to transfer through Swartz Bay but you can't reserve the Fulford boat. Try to avoid the 5pm Fulford ferry as that is a commuter boat and often full. There are float planes from Vancouver to Ganges, and car rentals in Ganges at the Marina.
In order to enjoy Salt Spring and all it has to offer we recommend guests stay at least 3 nights. There is so much to do! Welcome to Bellwoods Cottage B&B on Salt Spring Island. (IG @stayatbellwoods)
Enjoy our west coast cottage with spectacular hilltop views overlooking the Gulf Islands and the Coast Mountain Ranges. The cottage is privately situated on 5 acres of wooded land, bordered by Peter Arnell Park and trails leading to nature reserves at the bottom of the hill.
This 2-bedroom 1-bath can sleep up to 6 people. A perfect place for couples, friends, and families to rest and explore the island.
The space
Upon entering, you'll find an open dining and living area with a wood-burning fireplace under a cathedral pine ceiling with beautiful natural light. The bedrooms feature super comfy beds with down pillows and cotton linens. The bay windows look out to the woodshed, roses, and a bountiful plum tree. The well-equipped cottage includes freshly ground coffee, french press, and tea.
Bellwoods Cottage is landscaped with native species that bloom three seasons a year. Enjoy comfortable deck seating with stunning views and string lights hanging from the Arbutus and Douglas Fir trees. You'll love the location with trail access directly from the property, a short 5-minute drive to Beddis Beach and Cusheon Lake, and 10 minutes to Ganges and Fulford Harbour.
Guest access
You will have access to the cottage, a private deck, two parking spots, and a large front yard overlooking beautiful views from our property. The lawn and surrounding acreage are a shared space with ourselves and our chickens and visiting rabbits, but in general, it is a very quiet and private space.
Your stay includes complimentary use of our gym and infrared sauna.
Other things to note
As a home-based B&B, we supply fresh ground coffee, a selection of teas, and cereals to our guests. We also have fresh eggs from our happy hens available for purchase.
Bellwoods Cottage operates in accordance with local zoning and bylaws. We live on the property full-time in the main house.
A few notes to make sure this is the right place for you:
Bellwoods Cottage is a special retreat — it's quiet, feels secluded, and a little wild. The property is located down a short gravel road driveway. It's safe for all cars, but drive slowly and watch for deer. In the snowiest conditions, you will need snow tires and we'll let you know where to park to avoid the driveway.
We purposefully do not provide a TV and hope our space is a nature-inspired respite. That said, we also know you might want to get away and retreat to Bellwoods Cottage to do some work in between exploring the island. We have superfast, broadband wireless internet. Stream music to our wireless speaker with your phone. We have strong LTE service with all major carriers.
There is no A/C, although the large windows and ceiling fan means it rarely gets too hot. In addition to the wood-burning fireplace, there is electric heating in the living area and a separate thermostat in each bedroom.
The third bed is a queen in the loft accessed by a built-in fold-away ladder.
We’re thrilled to welcome your furry family members, but please remember they must never be left unattended in the cottage—for their safety and yours.
Out of respect for local wildlife and to keep all our guests comfortable, we kindly ask that dogs remain on a leash at all times when outdoors on the property.
Please update your reservation if the number of guests changes or you decide to bring a pet. There is an extra guest fee per night for any guests over four.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us before booking.
