Portions of Hopewell Township and Stow Creek Township were annexed in 1845. The township was named for Greenwich, England. In 1774, during the run-up to the American Revolutionary War, the small community on the Cohansey River was the site of the Greenwich Tea Party, in which a load of tea meant to be sent overland into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was torched in the night. - "all was as advertised, thank you for the hospitality!" - "This beach house was beautiful and relaxing. You had everything we needed. All we needed to do was bring ourselves and the fun!" - "Wonderful property we had a great time. Thank you " - "We really enjoyed our week at the house being away from everything, often going out on the deck to enjoy the awesome views of the water, sounds of the waves, and walking along the beach at low tide. Even with the bad items below, we still had a great time. The Good - Deck goes right up to the water - Very quiet area even with other houses close by - House has all the amenities so you can grab groceries for the week and cook at the house - One room with king bed and other 3 with queen that worked perfect for the full house we had - Multiple seats and bench on the large back deck to enjoy awesome views - Walking along the beach & quiet road - Nice neighbors The Bad - No instructions of any sort when we got there including how to get on Wi-Fi because cell signal is extremely weak - Found out from the host near the end of our stay that we were responsible for taking ALL trash with us. Needless to say, a full house of people all week amounted to multiple garbage bags and a bit of excitement. - When we got there: downstairs tub was stopped up & upstairs toilet wouldn't flush right. We fixed both. - Back sliding glass door wouldn't lock and no stick to manually brace it closed/locked. - Pictures don't match what was there. Although pictures have TVs in the rooms, they had all been removed. - Enough space between stair rails that kids can fit through (our 6 year old could) - No hand towels and limited large towels so bring your own "

Find your peace between the bay and the marsh
House
Downe, New Jersey, USA

Relax with the family at this peaceful, nature lovers dream. It’s truly a getaway from everyday life. Sit and relax on the spacious deck overlooking the Delaware Bay, listen to the waves as the tides come and go, or enjoy the symphony of the shore birds and surrounding nature from the vast marshland with Money Island in the distance. It’s only a short walk to the small public beach to put your feet in the sand and cool off on a hot day or collect beach glass. Don’t forget your fishing gear!

Horseshoe cove is an eclectic cottage with views of the bay and marshland.
The first floor includes a screened-in porch with sitting and dining areas, complete with bay view and deck access. Once you enter the home there is a light-filled family room and dining room, a fully stocked kitchen, a sitting room with puzzles, games and books, full bath, and a bedroom with a full sized bed and private access to the deck. Upstairs you will find a large open concept bedroom that sleeps 4. Originally intended to be two separate bedrooms, but kept open to allow for the bay breeze and 360 views. There is also another full bath with shower stall.
The outdoor space includes a large deck off of the family room, and a smaller deck off of the kitchen that includes an outdoor shower and grill. Parking is available onsite for 2-3 cars.

One of the things we love most about Gandy’s Beach is the nature. Please be respectful of this special place and leave it better than you found it.

This is a small quiet community. In order to respect our neighbors we request that there are no large or loud parties.

It is about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the major shore points. The grocery store is about 20-30 minutes away.

Our home is lovely, but it certainly isn’t Pinterest perfect. It’s lived in and loved. We are always working on improving it and making it even better for our family and guests. We keep it stocked with necessities and promise that you will make lasting memories here.

No smoking, vaping, etc. within the property including the screened in porch.

The best time to enjoy the beach area is at low tide. There is not much beach due to erosion at high tide. We strongly suggest water shoes!

Activities that many enjoy here are birding, boating, kayaking, photography, sea glass hunting, swimming, fishing, crabbing.

Bugs can be a pain some days when the bay breeze does not keep them at bay. Bring your bug spray. The most challenging months are June and July.

Due to the nature of living on an island, it is important to limit indoor water use. Please use the outdoor shower as much as possible. The septic only has a small holding tank.

Guests will have access to the entire home with the exception of the owners closet.
We ask that our guests tidy the home prior to departure to make cleaning easier.

Although the home is not pet friendly to our guests at the moment, the owners do have dogs that visit from time to time. Just a note for those who have allergies.

Guests are responsible for any property damage.

" - "We enjoyed watching the sunrise from the deck and perfect sunsets walking a few houses down at the end of cove rd. We fished from Cove rd at high tide and Gandys beach at low tide. We went searching for sea glass at Sea Breeze and Fortescue beach. We also spent a day a Wildwood Beach. "

Five Red Doors: Historic Hann House
House
Bridgeton

One group at a time gets royal treatment in our own historic home (1820-60s) in the heart of Bridgeton's vast historic district. Two quite private bedrooms are dedicated to a group of 1-4 guests (double-bedded room @$150, & twin-bedded room @$50/bed). Slim in-room foldout for a child is $25/night. FIOS throughout, and chef-prepared five-star breakfast in our original dining room. We're here for you--two well-vaccinated seniors with two amiable cats. Please come (and stay) healthy!

The space
We are set on a bluff above the Cohansey River, richly arrayed with handsome Victorian homes, just a few steps from Bridgeton's villagey downtown and well-endowed 1000-acre park (biking, running, kayaking, even the revered Cohanzick Zoo!), and not much more than a mile from the Rutgers Food innovation Center. The Millville Autosports Park and the Renaissance Arts Center, Levoy Theater and Wheaton Arts Glass Museum are only about 15-20 minutes east of us; the Bayshore Center at Bivalve about a half-hour to the south, Philly about 45' to an hour away, NYC & DC only 2 1/2 hours.
The house itself is historic--a sensitively updated nationally-registered 'house-tour' house whose older farmhouse-style kitchen/dining room section goes back to the 1820s. The more elegant additions are Victorian--1870 to 1900--and contain two BnB rooms on the second floor.
NOTE: We ALWAYS maintain guest privacy and safety by booking only ONE family or group at a time.
The spacious main bedroom upstairs looks out over West Commerce St, a County access road that is fairly quiet on weekends but with some street noise on weekday mornings, especially during the school year. It is totally private in relation to the rest of the house, retro in feel but with A/C and other amenities, and combines seclusion with easy one-flight-down access to the dining-room/kitchen area for breakfast. It is fitted with (among other elegant furnishings) an old-fashioned four-poster DOUBLE-bed (NOT a queen!), and is big enough for a foldout bed (additional $25) or pack-n-play (additional $10).
It also has its own one-step-down, bright and spotless bathroom, recently-restyled with tiled floor and shower, and with a full door for privacy.
A second bedroom (right across a little hall and virtually adjoining) was a child's room and still has that feel. Its twin beds add $50-$75 (one guest or two) and can accommodate almost any age, but best NOT an infant or toddler. For larger groups, bathroom access, of course, is shared through the main bedroom, so shower arrangements would have to be worked out within the group. Another half-bath (sink/toilet)--directly downstairs--is available to guests for times when those in the main bedroom would rather not be disturbed.
Good FIOS wifi is available throughout the house.
Bridgeton and South Jersey offer lots to see, do, and have for breakfast! Food has in fact been central to farm-life here for centuries, and brought a diversity of migrant workers to surrounding factories, farms, rivers and bays, creating a rich weave of cultures. South Jersey is a dream-destination for farm-foodies, birders and antique-aficionados. Central or South American cooking and great pizza are local traditions, with some Southern and West-Indian eating if you like it hot. Despite restaurant changes in this difficult time, there's always something good to eat locally and we can probably guide you to it.
Bridgeton also boasts the first and oldest free African-American settlement in the US (Gouldtown) right within the city boundaries,--even a Lenni Lenape Indian reservation nearby. The Bayshore Center at Bivalve will feed you the world's best oysters while regaling you with the glorious history of shell- and sturgeon-fishing along the Delaware Bay.
Besides being a destination in itself, Bridgeton, on the Bayshore Scenic Byway, is gateway to the entire historic and scenic Delaware Bay from Salem to Cape May and only about a 45-minute to 1 hour drive from some of the best Atlantic beaches in New Jersey. It is situated perfectly for those who like their cozy, cosmopolitan & comfort-driven privacy (and an immaculate room to stay in) at a better-than-beach-house rate and with a dash of cultural ambience, green views, big skies and bold sunsets.
PRICING REFLECTS SEASONAL CHANGES, so PLEASE do consult the calendar for higher/lower-priced periods.

Getting around
Downtown and park are in walking distance, as are the choicest sites of historic architecture in this large historic district. You will need a car to go anywhere farther away.

Guest access
Parking is off-street, in the driveway at the back of the house, which also functions as our main entrance via the back patio. Guests come in through our multi-purpose "slate room" into the connected kitchen/dining room areas. From there it's straight upstairs into the guest-bedroom section of the house. Depending on time of day and time of year, these--and the large back yard--are the spaces we tend to share, though daytime guest privacy is also available in the 'music room,' with wifi available throughout.
Sandy is easily persuaded to take you through this virtual museum of a house and regale you with its many stories (be sure to ask him about the Einstein begonia!).
Take your pick of breakfast in the dining room or--if you're alone--a bit more family style in our retro kitchen (or in ideal weather even on the back patio!). Please note that repairs to an historic sandstone retaining wall along West Commerce Street have meant a temporary loss of the yard's beauty and seclusion. But we'll tell you the long restoration saga if you come, and hope you'll come back when it's done!
We're both tourism aficionados and love to offer advice on what to see--walking, biking, driving, boating--even kayaking!--as well as where to go and how to get there. (Sandy and Flavia have slightly different versions!)
We love guest feedback, so don't hesitate to share your experiences.
This is our home, so of course we're normally here when guests are, and will be glad to make any personal arrangements about the timing of your comings and goings.
More details in the "House Manual" section, if you book.

During your stay
We live here, and are available and on call as needed, but we try to assure a high degree of guest privacy too. Guests can breakfast in our spacious dining room or, if alone, can join the chef for that cozy in the kitchen feel! As you can tell from reviews, Sandy is a great (and entertaining) breakfast short-order chef--it was his profession for a time. We both love food. Expect us to talk about it at least a little! Flavia speaks Italian and manages in French and Spanish.

Other things to note
Weekday mornings during the school year school buses will climb the West Commerce Street hill outside our front windows for a few minutes (September to June--not weekends, not holidays, not in the summer). Otherwise it's amazingly quiet here (our guests tell us), and because we're so high above the road with the park virtually at our back, we're also quite sheltered for a house on a principal secondary road at the edge of the downtown. PLUS we're a block away from Route 49 with access to all of the South Jersey "Bayshore" and its extraordinary ecotourism amenities as well as every delight from the Delaware Bridge to the glorious Jersey beaches (stay here, save a LOT of money!). If you like boating or biking or birding, this is the 'gateway'! Satellite maps will show the parks, lakes and river bluffs virtually next door. (More about the area in the Description section.)

WATERFRONT w/ Hot Tub & Fire Pit | 4 Bedrooms
House
Fairfield

Tucked quietly along the banks of the Cohansey River, The Foxtail is our refuge from the world. A lovingly restored 1860s colonial, it brings together timeless charm and modern ease. Surrounded by wild nature and stillness, it's a place to truly tap out, reconnect, and take a deep breath.

Whether you're here for a romantic weekend, a cozy family getaway, or a gathering with old friends, this home offers space to stretch out, gather in, and just be.

The space
After a drive down a long private lane, you’ll arrive beneath a canopy of trees and feel the shift immediately. Park under the carport and enter through the rear of the home into a light-filled kitchen designed for real cooking. It’s fully stocked with stainless steel appliances, quality cookware and bakeware, grilling tools, cutting boards, and a drip coffee maker.

On the first floor, you'll find:
• A king bedroom with easy access for those who prefer to avoid stairs
• A full bathroom
• A laundry room with detergent, stain remover, and extra towels
• A dining room with seating for eight and uninterrupted river views
• A cozy family room with a TV and games including Catan and Cards Against Humanity

Upstairs, you'll find:
• Three more bedrooms (two queens and one king)
• Two full bathrooms, including one with a bathtub

The front porch is a favorite spot for slow mornings, afternoon reading, or winding down with a drink at golden hour. Wander the property, nap in the hammock, soak in the outdoor spa, or sit on the dock with your feet in the water. At night, gather around the fire pit for conversation and s’mores under the stars.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the home and grounds, excluding any locked storage spaces such as the basement and upstairs hallway closet. Please remain within our property lines and be respectful of neighboring land.

Other things to note
Internet Access
The Foxtail is equipped with Starlink, which is a satellite-based internet service that delivers fast, reliable connectivity to even the most remote corners of the world. Given our rural riverside location, this is the best technology available here. Most of the time, it performs beautifully for streaming, video calls, and everyday browsing. On rare occasions, weather or satellite shifts can cause brief drops in service, so we recommend downloading anything essential in advance and planning accordingly.

Hot Tub
For reservations made within two weeks of check-in, hot tub use must be confirmed in advance and includes a $200 fee. The hot tub is professionally cleaned every Monday.

Pets
We welcome house-trained, well-behaved pets on a case-by-case basis with an additional pet cleaning fee. Since the property is not fenced, pets must remain leashed at all times when outside.

Check-in and Check-out
We are not accepting Saturday arrivals or departures at this time.

On the way to The Townsend, you'll pass roadside farmstands and open fields. This meticulously restored farmhouse, located on the Cohansey River, features waterfront views in every room in the house so you can unwind, reflect and enjoy the company of family and friends. Outside you'll find a fire pit, hot tub and large field, perfect for outdoor activities. A quick 3 mile drive takes you to the historic town of Greenwich. The space
Guests enter through the door between the garage and the house. There are two steps leading into the house. The door opens up to a mud room that has a bench with cubbies, broom closet and washer and dryer.

From the mudroom, you walk into the kitchen area with a spacious island with four counter stools and equipped with an induction cooktop range. Past the island is a round table, which seats six people. There is also a pantry where we store fire starters and long lighters for the riverside fire pit.

Kitchen items include: dinner plates, bowls, drinking glasses, coffee mugs, utensils, basic cooking tools, mixing bowls, measuring cups, pots, pans, serving dishes, bakeware, cutting boards, grilling tools, standard sized refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and standard drip coffee maker.

There is access from the kitchen to an outdoor area that leads to a grill, hot tub and picnic table, and overlooks the Cohansey River.

From the kitchen, you walk into the living room area that houses a large leather couch, stone slab coffee table, flat screen tv and two lounge chairs. There is also a dining room table that seats eight people.

Directly off the living room, you can access the first bedroom with a queen bed. There is one step leading up to this bedroom. From the bedroom, you can access the first of three bathrooms in the house, which has a stand up shower stall. There is also an additional bathroom door entrance leading to the common hallway that leads to the billiard room and additional lounge area. There is one step leading up to the bathroom from this access point.

The billiard room is located down the hall from the living room. In this room are two lounge chairs and a pool table. Off of this room is the door leading to the screened in porch overlooking the Cohansey River. There are two rocking chairs and an outdoor couch on the porch.

From the billiard room you can also access the second lounge area that boasts †wo leather couches, which both turn into king sized pullouts and floor to ceiling bookshelves. The fireplace in this room is for decoration only. **If you have more than ten guests, please let us know, as we have to plan to leave out extra bed and shower linens.**

We have a flex space above the garage that is outfitted for studio workshops, yoga retreats, etc. It is an open room with vaulted ceilings, white walls, three oversized drum lights and chevron hardwood floors. There is a wall unit that provides heating and air conditioning. This space can be rented out for an additional $500.
