The apartment (aptly named Whistling Trains) is one-half mile from Sykesville's Main Street - the 2016 Coolest Small Town in America. There are lots of events in town, many walking paths through the community, a train that runs along the Patapsco River and through brick tunnels built in the 1800's. The town has
a lot of history and you are less than an hour to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry, Baltimore, Annapolis and Frederick. Washington DC is about 45 miles away.

The space

There is a Flat screen TV giving access to Cable only TV which includes Netflex and many other channels. There are also some board games, books and puzzles for your enjoyment.

The kitchen is intended to meet your cooking and dining needs. There is a Keurig coffee maker with K cups. You will find tea bags, sugar and a variety of sweeteners.

The HVAC system was replaced in 2016 and the new system has an air scrubber.

There is a Graco Pack N Play and a Fisher Price Space Saver highchair to accommodate our younger guest.

Guest access

Guests have full use of the apartment, covered porch, and designated off street parking. They may enjoy the front yard as well.
Guest must be able to step over a 3-4" threshold to enter the apartment. Also, the doors from the bedrooms to the bathrooms are a bit smaller than standard measuring 22".

Other things to note

Debbie lives off site. Co-host, Chris, lives on site but we respect our guests’ privacy. We can be contacted through Airbnb messaging or by text.

Bright, open floor plan with private entrance and free parking nestled in a quiet residential tree lined cul-de-sac in beautiful Marriottsville. This is a private suite in our home with over 900 square feet of space. It includes an efficiency kitchen equipped with a mini fridge, toaster, microwave and hot plate. This suite is a wonderful short term option for professionals & interns.

The suite was built as an addition to our home in 2012. It has a private entrance & includes a large open combined living room/ kitchen area and office which is built over our garage. There is a door between the bedroom and the main house that is locked by the guest.

The girls had room to hang out together in the loft. We thought we would use the pool, but in the end, we didn't. Nice to have it, just in case. - "really great property would recommend!" - "Only issue, which is a big issue, is that the entertainment (either cable for TV or wifi) was lacking. We tried casting to the TV but the bandwidth was strong enough to have a consistent feed, which was constantly lagging." - "The house has an amazing layout. It needs a very deep cleaning and much repair. When we took sheets off a bed in order to change them for a different person, the mattress was very stained. Same was true for some of the pillows. We felt we had to wash the linens ourselves to ensure cleanliness. A lot of things are in disrepair like the shower does not drain in the master. Towel rack broken. Kitchen drawer door broken. The towels provided were very small and very thin. Bring your own beach towels if you stay here. The owner was very nice and responsive and assured me that things would improve. They were grateful for our input. The house layout was great and the extra refrigerator downstairs was helpful. The kitchen could be better stocked with silverware and items such as that. The carpet desperately needs cleaning. It’s a beautiful home that could really be nice with some TLC."

It also has a karaoke sound system that my family really enjoyed. When booking the property, the price changed a few times. I’m not sure of the reason, but it caused alot of confusion. I would suggest that the owner created a handbook with the check in and check out procedures to ensure a smooth transition. I wasn’t given the information until I got to the property. Welcome to our campsite, Fern Creek at Azimuth Acres! We are a 67 acre working farm that backs up to the Liberty Reservoir where you can access miles of trails. Our property is a beautiful mix of rolling green hills and forest. There are four ponds on the property where you can watch for turtles, frogs, geese and ducks. You have access to our gorgeous swimming pond, complete with sandy beach (with wifi!), beach chairs, cabana, charcoal grill and picnic table, so bring your bathing suits in the summer months. There is an indoor bathroom (toilet only) available to use near the parking area and beach. At the campsite, you have access to a hammock, books and games, a power inverter (for charging your phones and other devices should you bring them), a battery operated fan, flashlights, first aid kit, and pop-up rain shelter should you need it. If you don't need to set up the 4-person tent, the second platform is a great space for yoga or meditation. As we are a working farm, we do live on the property (all four generations of us!), so you may see us out and about. We have pigs, chickens, bees, and three friendly barn cats. We look forward to sharing our property with you and hope you fall in love with it like we did!

The Space:

Guest Access:
This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature!

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed or a queen-size bunk bed (see photos for the exact setup). The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that’s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs, and a heating source to keep you warm and toasty at night.

Group Camping: We welcome campers with larger parties, but the standard Tentrr setup only includes the canvas tent plus the additional pop-up dome tent. You may need and are encouraged to bring additional camping gear of your own if you plan on camping with a large party.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. You may have as many campers in your party up to the maximum limit that is set for the listing, but please note that the only bed provided as a standard amenity is the one set up inside the canvas tent.

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Other Things to Note:
Follow the Tentrr signs down our driveway to get to your parking area, and again to get to the campsite. The campsite is about a 15 minute walk from your designated parking area. There is a complimentary hand cart available to take your gear down to the site. If you have a lot of gear, or have trouble with hills (there is a large hill on the walk to the campsite) please contact Sarah (campkeeper) to coordinate getting a ride down to the site. Enjoy the beach on our swimming pond (no lifeguard on duty, free wifi!), but please note that it is not private - we often spend our down time cooling off there! Feel free to walk our trails, stroll through the fields, and say hi to our pigs and chickens. You can walk right off our property on to the many trails surrounding the Liberty Reservoir. Call us if you need anything at all, there's someone on the property 24/7. **Pets not allowed unless they are documented service animals**

Interaction with Guests:
Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location on the property.

If a CampKeeper submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the CampKeeper’s property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

- "We stayed here while in town for a wedding. We chose this property for its size and the backyard. We had more than enough space inside the home for my immediate family, including 3 children 5 and under, and two adult cousins. The swingset in the fenced-in back yard was a huge hit. The kitchen had everything we needed for our 3 day stay and the floor plan is nice and open so there was plenty of room to lounge and play. The house is on the corner of the entrance to a large neighborhood with a beautiful walking path. Now, onto the few improvements. A few lights were out (the 1st floor powder room and front door exterior lights - which made it challenging to type in the entry code on the keypad at night). There was also pieces of garbage, debris, and old toy balls in the backyard on the side away from the play area. This was not fresh litter - it looked like it had been around for a long time. Since this property is being advertized as family-friendly you would think someone would clean up the yard. Lastly, the owner should take photos and any mention of the hot tub out of the listing - it was in complete disrepair and clearly has not been functional in years. We had no intention of using it when we booked the property so it did not matter to us, but it could to other potential renters. Like the title states, overall we enjoyed our stay here. We have family in the area and would stay here again."

- "Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is comfortable and well-furnished, but we were a little disconcerted on arrival to find red graffiti in the entrance hall and across the doors. After correspondence with the owner, it seemed likely that a previous guest's child had scribbled the walls and door, but at the time it seemed possible that there had been a break-in. We were disturbed that the cleaners apparently didn't notice or didn't clean this off, and although the owner responded to our concerns, the cleaners never came to correct the problem."

This is an in-law suite with private entrance attached to our home in a quiet neighborhood. There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room with sofa bed, bathroom and bedroom with queen bed and sofa bed. Folding baby crib (pack n play) with sheets and blankets available. There is a foldable single bed also available.
We are an hour away from D.C. and Dulles Airport and 30 minutes away from Baltimore and BWI Airport.

The space
This is a recently furnished & designed (2022) spacious one-bedroom basement apartment that is thoughtfully crafted and arranged with mid-century modern furniture. It comes with a private entrance designed comfortably for 1-4 guests. Our space is perfect for those coming to the area to visit family and friends, explore the area, and for those working from home.

The gathering space has a stove fireplace with two comfortable chairs to suit any late reading or work-from-home needs, a queen-sized sleeper, 65" flat screen Roku TV, loveseat, and accent chairs. The dining area includes a dining table with 4 chairs. The Kitchenette includes a full-sized refrigerator, air fryer, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, hot plate, pots, pans, glasses, plates, and cooking and eating utensils. However, THERE IS NO RANGE OR OVEN. Coffee, tea, creamer, sweeteners, snacks, and waters are included. The bathroom has a tub and shower. Linens, towels, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, blow dryers are provided. The outside space includes a semi-private seating area, and a fire pit. The apartment is equipped with high speed Wi-Fi and a 65" flat screen Roku TV.

The bedroom has a king-sized bed and there is a foldable pack & play that can be set up for our younger guests. There is also a high chair that can be attached to a separate seat if needed and requested.

We welcome any long-term stays as our space would be perfect for parents, grandparents, healthcare professionals, and students. Please inquire about them through AirBnB, and preferably several weeks and months in advance as our space gets filled quickly.

PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WHEN BOOKING:
Because this is a lower-level apartment and with young boys who desire to rule the world (living above the unit), you will hear periodic noise during the day. However, any potential loud noise will lapse after 10PM (quiet hours). In addition, piano noise will be heard for 1.5 hours sometime from 5-8pm on Wednesdays and Thursday evenings. Many have noted how elegant and beautiful the sound is as concert music plays.

If you are sensitive to noise during the daytime, the space is probably not for you. There are also very normal minor sounds made by HVAC systems, refrigerators, and dishwashers you may hear during the evening hours (for international guests).

If you have a hard time sleeping with 4 adults in a single hotel room (King + Pull Out Bed), and you'd rather have two separate hotel rooms, THIS SPACE IS NOT FOR YOU.

Guest access
We are located in one of the safest places in Maryland. We are not far from shopping centers or other single-family homes, but we hardly ever hear sirens or others in our neighborhood.

Private parking is available in the driveway which leads to the apartment. We are located on a quiet, private dead end cul-de-sac but you can easily get to any readily available amenity all within a 5-minute drive. The main shopping center is within 5-minutes, and Sykesville Main St. is only 10 minutes to enjoy food, fun, beverages, and boutique shopping. Unfortunately, the apartment is NOT Handicap Accessible.
